The good and the bad

This is a great app, but due to restrictions for me it is not usable. The customer service and response is the best I have experienced with any app. I purchased the premium membership to use TheGrint to track wagers. TheGrint will let you set the handicap for guests but not your individual handicap. While I understand it tracks and keeps an accurate handicap, I play in several groups/clubs that will only use the club play for club handicap. While I record all my rounds my actual handicap may not be the same as a particular club I am playing with albeit higher or lower. Because there is no way for me to adjust my handicap for wager tracking only while playing a club match, I am unable to use TheGrint .

Follow-Up: As mentioned the customer service is fabulous, and they are very responsive, they even followed up on my review. The suggestion to change the slope of the course in TheGrint does not address the issue at hand. While it will adjust my handicap artificially for that round, it would also adjust all the other players in the contest. So the issue remains. Additionally if the slope is adjusted wouldn’t that incorrectly record that round for handicap record purposes. It would be ideal if TheGrint allowed for a “gaming” handicap edit. I have several other apps that allow an “edit” of any individual handicap for the bet tracking portion. Thanks for the follow-up.

Awesome, and just gets better and better!

I have loved this since it first came out and I can’t imagine golf without it anymore. It continues to get better and better with each new update. It is awesome using the gps, tracking and comparing scores and round stats, keeping up with golf buddies through live updates, and exploring courses that you haven’t played yet or will be playing soon.

I also want to mention that the customer service is the best that I have ever experienced with an app. They are extremely responsive via email and alway listen to any feedback for improvement and look to resolve any issue that you might have, including getting course info updates really quickly if needed.

Best golf app available.

I’ve been a pro user for a few months now and this is without a doubt the best golf gps/scorecard app available. It pairs perfectly with my Apple Watch so I don’t even need to pull out my phone. One of the few apps that don’t pull the gps from the phone 100% of the time, it can also use the gps from my Apple Watch series 3 if I turn off the Bluetooth. The yardages are are so so. For me it could jump around anywhere from 3-20 yards all while I’m standing in the same spot. The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is because I haven’t found a gps app yet that can lock on a distance as well as a range finder. Which is as expected. That being said I’ve found this to be the most accurate and the features are great. Especially the shot tracking feature for pro users. Awesome to be able to see your exact yardages for each club in your bag. Also, the customer service is the best around. Any questions or bugs are answered within the day.

Update: Apple Watch app keeps crashing. Will not load. Deleted and reinstalled several times. Been ongoing for a couple weeks now.

Great app, one minor problem away from perfect

First of all I’ve used TheGrint since I started golf 2 years ago. Easy to use, fun and creative. Firstly I just used it on my iPhone and it was great, I could move the marker and set targets and it’s yardages are almost perfect. When I play with people with $400 rangefinders the yardages are almost exactly the same which is very impressive! The reason for 4 stars is there hasn’t been many updates except in cost. I got an Apple Watch instead of an expensive golf watch because I was excited to use my Grint pro membership on the watch and not have to carry my phone around and always be on it. But unfortunately one of the features I liked was shot tracker and you can only do this on the phone unlike other golf apps that let you do it on your watch. Also unlike other apps this one doesn’t give you wind speed and elevation on phone nor watch. I truly believe that if TheGrint could add any of these in an update it would be the hottest golf gps app on the market because the rest is so so good!

Thanks

I want to love this app!!!

Tracking scores is pretty easy, I like that for sure. I am a more casual golfer but golf four days a week all summer long, I just don’t really focus on my score. That being said, I am trying to get a better idea for my distance with each club and having a hard time with TheGrint. It seems to work pretty well on my phone, and the distance is right a lot of times on my watch. Sometimes though it will “wake up” on my watch and the distance is at least 50yds off! I will ask a buddy that has his handheld and it matches my app 8 out of 10 times. It’s those two times where it is at least 2 clubs off. If I could run TheGrint from my watch independently from my phone and have it give me accurate distances from the watch itself, not my phone, I would pay almost any amount of money. I could buy another device but with all the crap I carry on the course now, I really don't want a different gps. I need this to work!! Please let me know when it can be truly independent and a little more consistent. I think it is so close to being great!

It’s a younger generation app

I was just looking for an app to measure distances on the golf course using my Apple Watch. This does that and much more and is a lot to keep up with. I tried it 4 rounds of golf and gave up. You have to upload your round from your watch on your phone using TheGrint and it’s not easy to find and I didn’t know this so I lost my first 2 rounds. I successfully uploaded my 3rd round so I thought I had it figured out. After my 4th round I was unable to find the upload. I guess because I accidentally cleared TheGrint on my phone during my round. Just way too much to keep up with. If you’re older generation, and I’m generation X, I don’t think you’ll like it.

So I thought I would give it one more try. Played 18 holes and the watch said to go to my phone to upload my round and so I did and TheGrint wasn’t even logged in even though I started my round on my phone and then when I logged in it didn’t even recognize my round so I was unable to upload. TheGrint is such junk! Wish I had never made the purchase! I’m done and have deleted it!

Best in class Customer Support needs work!

My password was finally reset and problem fixed with an apology with explanation of why problem existed on auto password reset not working.

My cousin recommended TheGrint and as I just started playing again thought I would start with free version. Used a few times and the. Got logged out. Tried to use forgot password feature and never received email back in April of 2021. Went to website to try password recovery and website shows error try again later. Just tried to log in again tonight and again could not login. Tried forgot password feature again with no response email from app and same error on website. Scanned my email to find out they also never Responded contact us link from April2021 and it’s now July2021

New Update Has Bad Yardages

The new update, while I like some of the new features, has rendered TheGrint relatively useless due to poor yardage identification. I played a round yesterday at my home course and I could tell the yardages seemed about 15-20 yards short on TheGrint than they were in real life. This was confirmed by multiple sources including a friend with a range finder, the yardage sticks on the course, and a friend who also uses The Grint but didn’t yet have the new update! Crazy to me that the same app on two phones right next to each other would show wildly different yardages. For example, a 170 yard par 3 would read as 150 yards on The Grint.

Whatever you were using for previous yardage tracking on the GPS, please go back. It wasn’t perfect but it wasn’t 15-20 yards off every single time. In the mean time I will have to switch to a different app for my rounds.

Finally found my Golf app

I absolutely love TheGrint, I have tried a few other GPS golf apps before a friend showed me the Grint. I have since than deleted the other apps and this one is the only one I use. The GPS accuracy has been very accurate and in line with both my handheld GPS and the cart GPS. I love the social aspect of TheGrint and being able to see your friends life scorecards and getting notified whenever they get birdie. The stats that you get with being a PRO member are amazing and very helpful. I recommend TheGrint to anyone who wants to take their golf game to the next level.

Worked well at first

I really liked TheGrint for the first 6-7 months since I could use my Apple Watch instead of buying a separate golf watch. The last 6 weeks or so the watch would not sync up with the phone app or quit working. I would have to restart TheGrint on the watch and start it again. But after the last IOS upgrade it won’t even pair with my Apple Watch. It sits on the the watch start screen and says to begin the round on the phone and sync. Never goes to the actual hole. Tried to update TheGrint and then Tried to uninstall from the watch next but once deleted from the watch it wont even reinstall now. Very frustrating. App still works on the phone but a lot less convenient than managing scoring and distance from my watch.

Close to being perfect, not there yet

TheGrint could seriously use a feature where you can either send a friend a link so they can see the satellite view of your course & your shots or add a feature where they can just tap right into your round and see that without needing a invite link. The live scorecard is useless. There is super basic free golf gps apps out there that have this feature & it is fantastic. Golf Pad has it, so if you want an app like that go for it unless The Grint decides to add it (Which I really hope they do). Other than that one gripe, TheGrint is pretty solid. Maybe add a feature to accommodate for weather or something along those lines.

App is back up and working!

So after the latest update and new world handicap system I was unable to get TheGrint to work, could not even post a score. However, after deleting and reinstalling TheGrint near four or five times, and providing feedback to app developer, the latest install or download has TheGrint finally working, which I’m glad to report! I’m a free member looking forward to trying app next time I play and thinking of becoming a pro member in the near future. Hopefully the added analysis will help me get my handicap into the single digits finally.

Good bad and ugly

I like TheGrint mostly, but have issues with it working well. First, toggling GPS on and off should be available on one screen. I turn GPS on by pressing a button on the main screen, but then have to dive into a menu to turn it off. My battery won’t last if I just leave it on. Second: tried using TheGrint today, worked pretty well, except I had to press turn off GPS multiple times, sometimes 20 or 30 times or just wait till the next hole to be able to turn off GPS. please put the GPS ON and OFF button on the Home Screen and pretty please make it work even when in poor cell coverage areas. Not all golf courses are near cell towers.

Favorite GPS tracker but falls short

Good looking interface. I enjoy using TheGrint. I use TheGrint primarily for GPS on my watch. For the most part it works great. Occasionally it has issues syncing especially when recording your score on the phone rather than watch. I keep the phone in my pocket to ensure it’s close by for connectivity.
TheGrint does crash every now and then either watch or phone but I find that being an issues with similar apps as well.
One feature I wish The Grint has is the ability to explore a course without playing it. I like to review all holes the night before or morning of courses other than home. This is the only reason why I keep a competitor app on my phone. Hopefully they’ll add this someday.

Nice Golf App for Socializing Scores

This is a nice app to use in tournaments or just playing with a bunch of buddies to socialize everyone’s scores and stats live.
But to make it even better and for me to give that last star is if they could collaborate and/or integrate it with Arccos. Arccos automatically gathers my scores and all my stats. It’s a lot of work and too time consuming during a round to use both apps and have to manually enter the data into The Grint after each hole. If both apps could work together to allow me to automatically or with a single “button” push the data already collected…that would be the sweet spot!!

App with potential but I wouldn’t buy it again

Pros - Map is easy to use. Scoring is easy to enter.
Cons - There are no instructions that make it difficult because it is not self explanatory. I paid for TheGrint for the tracking but I’m unable to delete shots that were accidentally recorded. Help can take a long time in responding. I’ve asked to simply delete all my tracked shots and it still hasn’t been done after a week. I have asked that I want a reset for the annual purchase whenever this gets fixed a few times and they choose to ignore this request while answering the questions they want to. I wouldn’t renew again. There are other stats that can be tracked but there’s no manual so I don’t know how to use it. How about creating a tutorial video?

I wanted to like TheGrint but it is not for me.

Best golf app out there

Have tried other scoring apps but The Grint is definitely the most complete with 3D maps and handicap trends.

The only reason I refrain from giving it 5 stars is that there’s a small bug with the Watch App because it doesn’t sync automatically when I switch to the next hole on the iPhone app and the watch app still shows the previous hole.

Other than that I really like the small stats on the watch app that shows yardage to “dog leg”, front and carry bunkers as well as lay ups. Really help in devising a strategy before starting a hole. With the new 3D maps you get an even better idea of how the shot will fare, specially useful in hilly courses.

Confusion and Lacking Flexibility

I’ve used TheGrint for almost 3 years now, sticking with it so as not to lose lots of scores and handicap. I’ve given feedback and they respond but it seem to be giving lots of feedback that shouldn’t be necessary if TheGrint was more intuitive for set up and end of round up loading. The score card itself on course works fine. Time to shop. Picking courses and combinations of two tracks when three 9-hole tracks are available is not easy. Nor is changing the selected options or uploading after a 9-hole round. Just tired of fighting the user interface.

Used to be great

The Grint has never been sexy when compared to Golfshot and other apps, but it used to do basically everything I needed it to. The simple functionality combined with the affordable official handicap is what set TheGrint apart from the others.

However, the updates in 2020 have been laden with issues. The biggest issue is the inability to zoom in/out or rotate the screen while playing. This seems to work when previewing a course, but not when you’re playing and actually need it. My friends are having similar issues.

Other issues include:
- Shot Tracking crashes TheGrint if you lock your phone (always worked fine before).
- My scores and my friends scores don’t show up in my in-app news feed.
- General GPS issues.

I was a huge fan of the Grint and I’ve been a Pro member for 3 seasons. I’ve contacted customer support several times about these issues (and yes I’m using the most recent version), but none have been resolved. Unfortunately if these issues are not resolved soon, I will be discontinuing my membership and looking for alternatives. Please fix!!

Better

I upgraded and the new features are good, especially the GPS function, at the same time some issues still remain. When selecting the tracking option, my clubs in my bag did not come over and others are there. Also, the tracking option is still difficult to use, especially for the next shot. The other issue I am having is moving the yardage in the fairway section, you can’t just grab it, move it to assist with the approach shot. Other apps have this feature and it works great. TheGrint is improving, but would like to see these bugs worked out; still recommend TheGrint over all.

Best Apple Watch golf app

Love TheGrint for everything it offers a golfer. Anything from green side and fairway bunker distance to the distance of a water hazard. I love the USGA handicap that’s assessed twice a month.
Two wishful items to add would be the ability to enable the dedicated GPS on the Apple Watch and green layout. With that being said the watch does use the built in GPS and phone, however, I’m not a golfer who doesn’t carry my phone with me ever. When I walk away from my bag there is a lag in the watch auto switching to its built in GPS. It would be nice to see the green layout and the surrounding area for those longer shots and club choice.

Phenomenal App!

The Grint is a phenomenal app! They offer amazing customer service as well. Recently emailed about an older course that was sold and renovated. They responded to my email the same day. Asked me to send a scorecard and the new course was ready to go in a matter of days!

Another wonderful feature TheGrint has is the stat tracking feature. I recently bought a new driver. The club fitter asked me about my drives and what my misses are. I was able to pull the info up and was able to use that information while selecting a driver.

I give The Grint 5 stars!

The Buccaneer Golf Club Group (St Croix)

About 3 years ago one of our group found TheGrint on line & urged others to use it. The snowbirds & the locals in this group now have The Grint app on their phones.

Given the recent implementation of the World Handicap System some glitches happened with the par & slope rating conforming to the recent Puerto Rico USGA re-rating the course. However the support team at The Grint always responded to my requests to correct matters in a timely fashion. TheGrint deserves a 5 star rating for all the things it can do & the quality support team at The Grint.

Great app. Love it.

I started with the free version and then went to the premium for more complete stats. At this point, I’m not clear on the exact distinctions between the two. I just know I don’t want to give up what I’ve got.

When I got my clubs fitted, I took a print out of my stats for fairways and greens because it helped confirm how I was hitting during my fitting.

I would say TheGrint could be perfect if they would add approach shot accuracy tracking. Right now you know what percentage of fairways you hit and what percentage is right, left, long, short. However, even with the premium version, you’re only able to track that same information on par 3s. They should enable that same tracking for all approach shots.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot of playing partners that use TheGrint but I do see great potential in using it for leagues and other friendly competition.

Awesome Experience all around

I’ve been using the Grint for a few months now, and I love it. I have suggested it to friends and family, and would recommend it to any golfer that wants to not only track their game, but also improve it. The costumer service is amazing as well! I gave them feed back on an issue, and not only did they recognize my email and thank me for the feedback, they followed up with me to let me know it was fixed! Every avid golfer should have TheGrint.

Huge Sync issue with Apple watch

I have seen older reviews that report sync issues with the watch. I’m fairly new to TheGrint , but I played a round and tracked all scores, putts, etc from the watch. At the end of the round, it showed my score and told me to open TheGrint to sync. When I opened TheGrint , it pulled me to the 4th hole and erased all scores from 5 onward. While I was glad I saw my final score, I was not happy that my hole by hole and all stats were gone for the day. Very very frustrating. And this was on Bethpage black. A course I have never played and probably won’t get to for a while. I hope they fix this, as I don’t want to be pulling my phone out of my pocket to track scores.

Best golf app in the App Store

I use TheGrint every time I play golf. Now that I have an Apple Watch TheGrint is even better. GPS on every course, keeps record of all scores, keeps your handicap, and keeps track of where to improve your game. I’m a USGA chairman for TheGrint in my club/area. Everything is done by the books when it comes to USGA handicaps. The email response from the devs is amazing, they always get back to you. If you are looking for a free/useful/easy app for golf.....this is it. THIS IS YOUR APP.

Best scoring and stats app I have found.

This is the easiest and least hassle app I have found for yardage and keeping score. Keeps stats as you go, no multi clicking to add stats. I have used for over 2 years and all of my group uses it. Not only is it free but it gives you an official USGA handicap, saving you an additional $20. I travel and every course comes up instantly when you pull in the parking lot, no searching. Not much reason to switch.
