I love the concept, but this needs work…

Tracking your weight on an app and seeing the changes, good and bad, over time is motivating! But that is only true if it does it right. WeightGurus started doing weird and inconvenient things lately. For the first month everything seemed fine, set up was easy enough, and the scale was consistent even with multiple weighing. I would weigh myself every morning around the same time to be consistent and accurate. One morning I stepped off the scale and looked to my phone and it was asking if the scale it detected was mine and if I wanted to sync to it. I hit ok and then re-weighed myself, seemed to work fine then. Not long after that first incident, it started doing this almost ever other day. The inconvenience of that wasn’t unbearable, but then I noticed WeightGurus ’s graphing was weird. Apparently it was pulling dates from nowhere. I’m not an app developer, but I wouldn’t think it was hard to pull a date stamp off a phone, so unless my phone time traveled to November 19, 1967 on this lovely June 2021 morning, WeightGurus needs help.

Still going strong

Have had a Wi-Fi scale for 3-4 years now
Works great
Health apps are getting better at using Apple health weights so this scale removes one of the steps in tracking my eating/health.

Changing a battery went without a hitch. Was expecting to have to jump through hoops.

It has glitched a few times over the years but all in all it has been solid. Hope the Bluetooth issues are fixed so new members can also enjoy this wonderful product.

Not convinced that the body fat and water do anything. Even after I drink 2 pints of water my weight goes up but the percentages seem to follow a static formula. Got a real body fat done and this scale shows half what my trainer said. (And yes, I am not set as athletic)

- Wish it showed min/max values (shaded or something) along with the average weight. Would make the graph more appealing and Would provide value
- Wish I could scroll back a month in the month graph view (same with week or year view)
- History view is clunky. Needs to be a simpler table without the paging every few entries. Also too slow
- when my weight gets too close to my wife’s weight (yay), user select is a little strange. Think I have it figured out

Thanks all

Downgrade.

Originally when I first purchased this scale and had to sync it with WeightGurus , everything went pretty smoothly and well. However over the past years, there has been maybe 1 or 2 instances where after an update on WeightGurus , my phone would not sync to the scale but I would alway be resolved shortly after with a following update. However, for the past 7-8 months. I’ve noticed that I would have to open, close and then reopen WeightGurus just for it to sync my data (which is a bit of a hassle). Recently maybe for the past month or two, even that doesn’t work now. After that I decided to part ways with my scale and just purchase a different one that has a more reliable integration with my phone. The scale itself is great but the purpose of having a smart scale is to utilize the smart features. If you’re having troubles syncing your phone to the scale, do yourself a favor and return it back to Target. It only gets worse.

Room for improvement.

The scale comes with batteries and is easy enough to set up. I was confused at first when I created a profile on WeightGurus , then stood on the scale and only my weight synced. Then I realized you have to also create a user on the scale to get all the information. I don’t understand why you need to create a user both places when they are supposed to sync, but it was easy enough to do and is only a one time thing so not a big deal.

After I added myself as a user in the scale, I stepped on again and this time my weight was a pound more. So I tried again and got a third reading. This one was in the middle. I’m concerned about accuracy since I got three different readings but hopefully this was a fluke error.

The scale measures bone mass, which I like, but it doesn’t sync to WeightGurus and there is not a place to manually enter that information, which is frustrating.

Could improve app (please).

This is the 1st smart scale I got & love that it doesn’t just measure weight but also body fat, muscle, water, and bone mass percentages! It also does BMI. Then it gets synced and recorded on WeightGurus that charts changes through time. However, it seems that it no longer uploads/graphs bone mass information. It would also be nice if it could include more info about how to understand each % option based on your inputted data such as weight/gender/age/activity level. I understand from some reviews that the scale itself seems inaccurate. I can attest to some weird tests myself such as when I weighed myself then peed (a long time) and weighed again, I had more water weight the latter time rather than the first but overall it helps me understand where I am going and I’m very thankful for the plethora of info a scale like this gives me.

App Fails for Longterm Users

I bought this scale in 2017 and WeightGurus originally worked “OK”. The Bluetooth sometimes failed when trying to record my weight to WeightGurus , but after a few annoying tries each time, I could get it to record. Fast forward a few years, the scale by itself still works, but they’ve changed WeightGurus and it will no longer let me log into my account. When I try to log in, it says it doesn’t recognize me and that since I am new I should set up an account. I am not new. But I figured, whatever—I will set up a new account again assuming I need a new one for the new version of WeightGurus . When I try to do that, it won’t let me, telling me my email is already associated with an account. Makes no sense; I can’t access my original account but can’t set up a new account either. I contacted customer service and they were completely worthless. I do not recommend this brand.

It used to be really good

I don’t know what happened. I bought my scale around 3 years ago and everything worked beautifully. I’ve found myself needing to get back on track and now WeightGurus is a mess. I tried it a couple weeks ago and the scale had sync issues and the graph went wonky. I didn’t have time to fiddle with it that day.

Today I changed the batteries and reloaded WeightGurus . I stepped on the scale a few times and it said it couldn’t sync but it did and it’s recording random dates. April 3, 2057 and then August 16, 2103 for example.I don’t think there’s anything I can do on my end to correct that. As far as I can tell the weight reading is accurate , but it isn’t consistently recording the percentages. The graph is a mess because it is pulling random dates from past to future and deleting those is kind of a pain.

I really hope they can fix WeightGurus because it was great once.

Scale is great, App could be much better

Updated review:
Awful app and extremely frustrating scale. It does not sync which defeats the purpose of the scale. I have to try to turn off my Bluetooth and turn it on again to try to prompt it to sync. I t works 1 out of 10 times. And there is no customer support whatsoever. I took my review from 3 stars to 1, but it doesn’t deserve any. It’s just an exercise in frustration.

Previous review: Love the scale! But WeightGurus could use some improvements. 1- right now WeightGurus logs you off every single time you leave. That is so incredibly annoying. Every time you go in there you have to input your email and password. Please have an option to stay signed in if that’s what we wish. 2- currently, your phone must be unlocked and WeightGurus must be open to sync. There’s got to be a better way.

Syncing trouble

Syncing with WeightGurus (and Apple Health) could be so much easier. To get data from the scale to WeightGurus , you need to weigh in, wait for the scale to enter a sort of “pairing mode” that lasts 30 seconds, have WeightGurus open on your phone within the window to get the data. Either my phone auto locks too fast that it closes by the time the weigh in is complete, or the scale’s pairing mode ends too quickly before I can open WeightGurus . It would be great to send data manually without weighing in, or if it could auto sync with my Apple Watch.

Bluetooth performance is terrible

It’s probably is the bluetooth transmitter in the Greater Goods scale rather than WeightGurus itself, but bluetooth connections are spotty at best. I’ve been weighing daily for about two weeks now, and WeightGurus has connected and synced with the scale only a few times. I currently have over a week of data that I can’t get out of the scale (without watching the quick scroll of stats each times and manually recording them), and I don’t know that I ever will. There are a slew of negative reviews here in the AppStore referring to the same problem, and I don’t see any feedback from the company. Nothing easily found on the website either. Without decent bluetooth syncing, a bluetooth scale and associated app is pretty much useless. On to a different brand now I guess.

Recent challenges capturing weigh-ins

Have had this scale and app for ~5 yrs now, so pretty experienced with it. Have had the Bluetooth connection fail when the scale went a few mos without being used, but easy enough to set back up.

Recently, tho, have experienced difficulty btwn the phone and scale connecting during weigh ins. Like others have said, it generally is not capturing the data on its own. I happened to catch it tho when it first started doing this and did an app “shut down and restart” while still standing on the scale and the connection was made promptly, passing the reading to the phone & updating the chart.

Every single time since I’ve had to perform this “shut down & restart” action but it’s captured all the weigh-ins, as a result. It’s been a pretty regular occurrence since early JAN & was hoping for an app update, since I’m using new phone hardware (and software) since the last time the scale was used regularly.

In the end, this works but it does require some extra effort on your part to keep it honest…

App no longer works correctly

I bought this scale and app about 2 years ago. It used to sync and work properly. Now every time I step on the scale WeightGurus asks me if this is my scale and says I won’t have to do that ever again - but it never remembers me. It also adds weird, future dates to my latest entries and they take over my tracking and won’t show my new weigh-ins so I have to manually delete those entries (even though they are actual entries from within the last month). The scale still works fine, but the whole point of purchasing the scale was to be able to track and view my history. Latest app update 9 months ago?! Not acceptable weight gurus! Time to update and fix these issues!

By

App freak out

WeightGurus was working fine until recently. Now it goes through moments where it puts all the past progress on top of each other and the new data is registered as years in the future and then shoot after it stops updating progress all together. To fix the issue you have to delete WeightGurus and wipe out all past information. Totally delete your profile and then start from scratch. The only issue is that it will happen again and you need to do that process all over again. It’s happened to me twice so far in the last month and customer service was even nice enough to send me a new scale to try that out but sadly it happened again yesterday.

Works and integrates easily! 10 Stars 🌟

All of the other reviews you read about how difficult it is, and how WeightGurus don’t work on Apple health are nonsense at best!
I was almost convinced that I made the wrong choice, but, I mad the right choice!
To integrate WeightGurus you will need to give it permissions in WeightGurus settings, the Bluetooth setup was automatically done. I made an account on WeightGurus , set my goals, and it’s a charm!
Connecting and sharing info across My Plate app as well.
I Love it and recommend it to all!!

Set up ridiculous

I tried like four different devices, tried multiple different ways… Still no connection. I am very skilled with technology and applications set up etc. but this took me hours and I had to like rig it and not follow the instructions that they gave for it finally to connect so about three days of trying on and off and six total hours i’m finally connected. My model is 0385 maybe it’s because it’s a little bit older model but I would suggest a different brand or at least a different design. It is a good skill I have had it for years but I never actually hooked it up to a device for tracking. But I am currently on a diet that I would like to track these things.

Good luck

Does what it needs to do, but that’s it.

WeightGurus does what it needs to do, which is pull data from the scale and put it into Apple health. But it’s not great. Setup is buggy (example: my scale no longer appears in the list... but sync is still successful, so after an hour of setup I’m not touching it). Graphing feature is minimal and uninspired: can’t pan or zoom, and the axes/scales aren’t even labeled!

I use WeightGurus to load data into Apple health. It’d be great if this happened by push notification or something so I never had to open WeightGurus . Then I switch to a different app to actually see and plot my weight.

Great Company but please fixe the Bluetooth

Thr Bluetooth sync does not work with an iPhone any more. Tech support says apple updates the iOS and now they need to update their app.

I would have given them a one star review except I feel this company has provided exceptional customer service in the past and want to give them the benefit of the doubt. As of March 2022 the Bluetooth feature will not work if you are using an iPhone with the current OS.

I’ve been told that they are in the process of updating WeightGurus but it has been more than a month since I’ve been able to sync my phone.

I understand the process of updating a four year old app can take a while so I am not giving up. The scale in the company (Greater Goods) has performed exceptionally in the past.

I’ve been using various models of their scales for several years I own at least four.I’m very happy with the scale the technical support and the performance until now.

Purchased Scale in 2015

I've had the scale for several years now. In the beginning I just ended up deleting WeightGurus from my phone, as it just made it more complicated & frustrating provided it never worked. In the last 6 months I decided to download WeightGurus again because I wanted to have a record of my progress since I started weight lifting. Nothing about the scale is anywhere near accurate, even the weight can be off by up to 3-4 pounds, high or low.

The BMI calculator is incorrect, as is the body fat, muscle mass & water weight. None of them are anywhere near being accurate. I've deleted WeightGurus again & am throwing out the scale. It has been a complete waste of money & time.

LOVE IT!!!

I actually love everything about it! The companies’ customer service was really great! The scale is Gorgeous! Sleek, crisp white, stature wise it’s truly one of the largest I’ve purchased and I adore larger frames. So far so good on the Bluetooth connectivity issue, but even if it does arise, that’s too simple of an issue to not give this scale 5 stars, ( Am I the only person who still writes things down) because it’s perfect! I completely fell in love when I found out they “live thoughtfully” and give back!!!! I SOOOOOO LOVE THIS SCCAAAALLLLEE!!!

By

When it actually syncs, it’s great

I thought it was my older scale having issues syncing with WeightGurus so I bought a new scale. It’s WeightGurus though. It detects my phone app maaaaybe 50% of the time. The other times I need to turn phone’s Bluetooth off then on again, or take the batteries out of the scale to reset it, and after a few attempts the data actually records. For a few days now though no matter what I do it’s not connecting. I think it’s about time for a software update…

If it works properly, this is great for easily tracking and the visualization of trends etc.

By

How does it know muscle weight?!

I give 3 stars because it’s easy to use and track weight, but I honestly don’t know how it can really track percentage of muscle, body fat, and water weight. I’ve been working out and building muscle. I haven’t lost weight, and I believe it’s because of the muscle I gained. My weight has fluctuated and whenever it’s lower it shows higher muscle percentage, and when it’s a little up it shows lower muscle percentage. Doesn’t make sense. People have commented on how I look and the muscle definition.

Hard to setup

I bought the scale, set up is difficult. I’m taking it back. Couldn’t get Bluetooth nor WiFi to work. App is hard to use. And no I’m not computer illiterate lol it shouldn’t be this difficult. I got this so it could connect to my phone and be an easy way to keep track of my new low carb lifestyle. I don’t want to but it in manually, that’s what it’s telling me to do since it’s not connecting...besides the model isn’t even an option. It’s annoying. Not thanks! Will be getting a different brand with the same options. Sorry

Software lessons learned

A while ago they pushed a dead update and it took a while to fix it. This week they pushed a dead update and it was fixed the next day. The software developers seem to have learned their lesson and take the customer experience seriously.

Works Fine when It Works

I have used the Bluetooth model for some time. The main complaint is that it will suddenly stop taking body measurements. The solution is to re-sync with Bluetooth again. Reliability is not consistent. Also, Apple Watch integration is needed. I am usually wearing the watch so syncing without having to bring the phone would be a great plus.

By

Closer to 3/5 stars + 1 for updates

It’s noticeably better than previous app version. And to be clear, this is for WeightGurus only. Seems like some review WeightGurus and product on WeightGurus Store *Fauci headslap*

Anyway, glad to see the improvements - more organization, fewer pages to flip through, and more. Like better syncing.

By

Used to be great

Update: Bluetooth still does not work. When I manually add entries to app, 90% of the time the decimal button on the keypad disappears with the water and bodyfat entries. DISAPPOINTED AND FRUSTRATED.
.
.
.
Have been having several problems with WeightGurus opening or syncing the wrong data from the scale. Like 50 pounds over. Also it is making me log in again today and that's also not working. I keep getting several different errors. I tried on the site as well.

By

Only works sometimes

Bluetooth option is extremely needy. You have to have WeightGurus open and almost facing the scale for it to pick up an entry. Also went to add a manual entry, app set date back to today after I changed it and won't let me correct the entry. My data is now off, so I've deleted WeightGurus . Not really worth the hassle. I'll just write down my numbers.

By

$60 waste of time and money

Bought for half price and now see why. Spent over an hour trying to connect to WiFi hoping to be able to use its features. Phone connected to neighbors WiFi but not the scale which was literally 6 inches from my phone and 3 feet from the router. Never worked. Could have spent $20 on a scale that works better. Returned it. Wish these reviews would allow zero stars.

By

Support Apple Health stand-alone

WeightGurus should really support communication with the Bluetooth scale and saving to Apple Health without handing over PHI to your company and cloud.

Several app updates ago signed me out and it stayed that way. Haven’t signed in since until today to see if anything with privacy of WeightGurus has changed.

Also, WeightGurus doesn’t implement entering Keychain passwords very well either for those who use secure random passwords.

By

No syncing

I bought this scale because I did not want to have to manually update. I have had it for three years and the sync feature is horrible. Persistently loses connection, does not sync, and is frustrating to trouble shoot. Weight and scale features great. Sync and update features are troubled and frustrating. The bluetooth and picture feature for syncing seem messed up.

By

Won’t pair with my iPhone thru Bluetooth

Won’t pair with my iPhone thru Bluetooth after first set up, even while having app open. So, I just enter numbers manually. But like WeightGurus that you can add the numbers manually and that scale displays so much information. Also keeps your entered info saved and graphs your numbers to see your progress.

By

Graph

I think WeightGurus is great. I take my weight using a scale WITHOUT Bluetooth. And enter it manually. It makes a graph for my progress. I am happy and don’t have to mess with excel or any other nonsense on the computer. This is great.

By

Bluetooth forced reset problem

WeightGurus used to work fine for a long time but with the recent (or latest) release, my scale gets forgotten pretty much everyday. Instead of directly logging the measurement result, it says a new scale is detected and asks if it is me. Then, I must say yes and get on the scale one more time. My device list keeps growing. This has gotten extremely annoying, please fix the bug.

By

App locks up. Can’t log in.

I have tried to download WeightGurus but I can’t log in. WeightGurus freezes up when I get to the log in screen. I exit and close out WeightGurus but still happens. I try to delete WeightGurus and download again and still won’t work. Could you please fix the issue or I will return the scale? Thank you.
