Contact Easy Cleaner Support

This app seemed great. Except when I merged the duplicate contacts it does not keep all the fields- I know for sure that the “Notes” section gets deleted, and there could be other fields as well who knows. The Notes section gets deleted even if both contacts had notes. So it seems that the app is creating a new contact instead of keeping the most complete contact and updating it with info that does not match from the other contact being deleted- which would be a much better approach and help to reduce this problem. I write important notes in the contact field so this is really bad, I would rather have duplicate contacts than lose important info. Also, before it merges the app backs up your contacts. And there is a section in the app that allows you to Restore from this backup. BUT the back ups do NOT have the Notes section either so the back up for this issue is useless and gives you a false sense of comfort to do the merge. If you had this same problem and sync to Exchange then go to your Deleted Items (or Online your Deleted Contacts) and restore from there. Took a lot of wasted time but I got my contacts back, but with more duplicates now!

I wanted to backup the contacts to my Dropbox account but couldn’t do this until I sighed up for a free account on the developers system. They now are sending me junk emails. Plus when I turn off the automatic contact backup feature ( which appears to cost more as it is a subscription) it looks like something is wrong ( red banner icon, red switch in off position and language in the confirmation that makes it sound like having this off will be really bad). I feel manipulated and annoyed. Finally, when you view a contact there is no way to get back to the same place in the directory. Very difficult to cull my address list manually since I need to look at the details before deleting. Really wish I hadn’t purchased this product.

The app works well the first time it scans your contacts — especially if you have a relatively large database and have not used any similar product previously. It catches most everything and makes it relatively easy to clean up duplicates, delete useless records, etc. That said, I have two major pet peeves. First, the app counts any record that has the same phone number as another record as a duplicate record. The suggested solution— to combine the two records into one or delete one of the records — is not helpful. In most cases, it’s a situation where a couple shares a phone number so it’s in each of their records. I want to keep both records as they are. I don’t see an option to do that so the same records keep showing up as duplicates, and keep wanting me to choose between merge or delete. I think there is something I’m missing because there just has to be a way to deal with this issue in the app. But I can’t find it and, my second pet peeve, Support has never responded to either of my requests for help with this issue. So there may be an easy way to deal with it in the app, but if there is, Support is not interested in sharing that information with me.
