Charity Miles is a free app that allows users to earn money for charity by walking, running, or biking. The app has helped raise nearly $3 million for various charities since its founding in 2012. Users can create their own Pledge Page to raise money for their chosen charity, and the more their friends pledge, the more money they can earn. Can’t Delete Account or Customize Privacy
2022-05-21
by Le Pa Ix
Has anyone noticed that once you create an account there appears to be no way to delete it? Like an uncomfortable permanent lock in. Also when it goes to editing your profile or account there is zero information on how to manage your own account. You can manage very little to nothing. And when you go to find out how to take control of your own account and canceling your own account etc. there is no info. It actually was an immediate turn off and then in searching for information on Charity Miles LLC I decided that I do NOT want to donate anything through CharityMiles at all. Everyone else is running blindly at CharityMiles because charity is the forefront but the way you can create an account and then never delete it and lose control of you’re own stuff is creepy.
Extremely disappointed!

by Blind-girl With Dog
I got CharityMiles to give back to a very specific charity when I walk since I am blind so I walk everywhere. Since I can’t afford to make regular donations to a specific charity that means everything to me extremely disappointed that I can’t select or add my own charity to be able to give back to the one specific charity that means everything to me. I don’t know if I’ll keep CharityMiles because I got it for that specific reason if you could make it so we can add our own charity instead of having to choose from a list of charities that would be wonderful because the charity I want isn’t even available but I don’t want to give to a different charity that didn’t give me anything when this particular non-profit has given me so much they’re the only one I want to give back to.
REMOVE AUTISM SPEAKS
2022-07-23
by NinjaNerd757
I do not have any gripes with this apps features, but I am appalled that after all of the outcry regarding the misdeeds of Autism Speaks from people who are actually on the Autism Spectrum such as myself, the 'charity' remains as a place which people can donate to! Please open your ears to the demographic this abominable group claims to represent and allow us to send money elsewhere, please! If you would truly like to support people with A.S.D., please consider allowing users to donate to the Autism Self Advocacy Network, a group which is actually supervised by Autistic individuals who care about or individuality and well-being, NOT in finding a cure, which is an incredibly hurtful action, as we do not feel a need to be cured, but rather, we need the opportunity to thrive as non-neurotypical in a majority neurotypical world. I am not angry with the developers, as their heart is in the right place and there is so much good coming from CharityMiles from other charities, but I am incredibly distraught - please fix this:(
Wish there were more activities to record for

Hello. I’m trying to use CharityMiles for a miles competition with my family and the problem that I’m running into (haha) is that there are only three exercise options. While I do run, bike and walk, I also cross country ski and hike. Other people also kayak, swim, in-line skate, unicycle etc.) I would love it if there were more options.
Also, the miles aren’t really equal. Biking ten miles on pavement is a lot easier than running ten trail miles. Shouldn’t running count for more or biking count for less? In another miles competition I was part of (called 100 miles in May) they had the miles calculated on a metabolically with running as the basis. Shouldn’t Charity Miles do something like that? Otherwise it’ll be a lot easier for the road bikers to rack up miles than the trail runners. (Just an example)
Thanks. Hopefully those two things can be changed. Have a great day person reading this.
I’m not sure how this has such high reviews. The sign up experience is extremely buggy. It’s very obviously not updated for the newer full screen iPhones, the autocomplete on some fields doesn’t do anything and you have to manually open your password manager to carry over email and generated password.
I managed to get by that after force quitting and restarting a few times, only to be greeted with a very limited set charities. I’d like to support an organization not currently in CharityMiles by directing people to a provided website. I don’t think that’s possible but CharityMiles is such a mess that I didn’t spend too long trying to figure out.
It’s a cool concept but the execution is severely lacking. Just use GoFundMe.
Great idea, but needs work

I got CharityMiles as a way to create a group and have that group track miles for a charity, which is what CharityMiles is supposed to do, right?!! It doesn’t. It doesn’t track any of my miles within the group, or even on the main page; just 0 miles, 0 streak, 0% inaccurate. I can only see them on my personal page. The help section says maybe it’s because my internet is slow; then why would my miles be logged on my personal page and not in the team?? Contacted support but I was told I should use CharityMiles and not Strava; I AM using CharityMiles !??
Other things that would be nice include the ability to see who’s in my group, how much money my team and myself have raised for a charity.
Confusing

I’ve only just downloaded CharityMiles a few days ago, but I was super excited when I found out about it since I enjoy walks and walk dogs regularly. The concept behind it is great, but CharityMiles itself is laughable. It tells you nothing about how much you’ve raised, and there isn’t even a $ per mile explanation in the FAQ, which I find kind of suspicious. You’d think this is the most basic piece of information that all users would want to know, so to forget to include this seems intentional and kind of sketchy. What you get in your profile instead, is a total mile count, and a comically useless graph that displays the distribution of the miles by day/week/year. However, there are no labels on this graph so it is essentially useless. Al you can get from the graph is what days you exercised more/less than usual.
TL;DR: developers, what is you thinking?!
Fantastic idea, app needs to be improved

The concept of CharityMiles is fantastic and really inspiring. Unfortunately, the user experience is definitely lacking. Here are some issues and recommendations: - no way to see how miles convert into an actual donation - is it $1 per mile? how much is a charity getting out of all this? - the screen that displays while activity is underway is completely useless - enlarge the tracker and timer so it’s in the center of the screen at least, display a map, or find something inspirational to display - it should be able to pick up GPS data from other activity tracking apps on the phone or not require CharityMiles to be running the entire time in order to track activity - see the Pacer app as an example of a third-party activity app that does this
Amazing concept, sub-par execution

I absolutely love the concept of CharityMiles , but the execution isn’t that great. Indoor tracking is extremely inaccurate and I wish it was compatible with my fitbit. Whenever I go grocery shopping, I always turn on CharityMiles but even if I spend 30 minutes to 1 1/2 hours inside it will still sometimes says that I went 0.0 miles which is always upsetting since I don’t notice until I’m done. It would also be nice if I could sync CharityMiles with my fitbit because I always walk at least 5-6 miles daily since I work in retail. They also used to show how much money you were donating to the charity while you were exercising, and I wish they would bring it back.
So I absolutely love CharityMiles. The interface is great. It’s super easy to use. You get to choose between loads of charities to be walking/running/biking for.
The only issue that I’m finding with this, and maybe I just haven’t figured out how to do it yet, but I can’t connect CharityMiles to be tracked through my smart watch.
Here’s why it’s a problem: I run on a treadmill and like to catch up on my series while I run, so my phone sits on the treadmill not moving. Well CharityMiles thinks I’m not moving... heck, I’ve even had it in my hand when I’m walking on the treadmill and it still thought I wasn’t moving. I’m not sure how sensitive the motion detection is, but it’s just mildly frustrating that there’s no way to track my miles when I want to use my phone for something during my indoor walk/run
Great app! could use improvement

CharityMiles is really motivating me to get out and expertise more than I already do. My school made a team on CharityMiles , and so the leaderboards are a fun aspect to have. I love that I can give money to national parks when I’m out enjoying nature.
CharityMiles is also very useful for measuring distances of trips you take every day as well as the exact time it takes you to get to your destination. It’s fun to get to know the stats of my home town.
I do wish that the interface was easier to use and more informative. The information that you can access is extremely limited. You can’t see any of your friend’s profiles, let alone their best times or fastest times. You can’t even see anything about a workout you did except the distance after you finish it. I would love to have more stats for me and my friends. Maybe fastest mph on a bike, or longest distance walked etc.
also as it stands it is very easy to just get in a car and say you rode your bike. If CharityMiles could show the average speed you went throughout the workout it would eliminate this because people would easily be able to see you cheated.
Wonderful App with Purpose...One Flaw

by Delmonte3161
I am a huge fan of the Charity Miles app. I love the purpose behind it and am extra motivated by the opportunity to use my exercise for good. I love the podcast! However, indoor tracking is woefully wonky. It is often behind in tracking, or completely freezes or registers nothing/next to nothing. Talk about a let down when you have put in a bunch of miles, and then find that CharityMiles has only tracked .125 of a mile. Outdoor tracking is pretty spot-on and consistent, but when the extreme temps drive us indoors, this is where CharityMiles is lacking. The actual problem is likely with the device being used and the motion sensors. However, a backup or optional method of tracking would be so helpful!

Unless you’re extremely fortunate, you likely know someone who would benefit from one of these charities.
If you’re not an avid runner but you’d like to be, heres your motivation: a large corporate entity (think Johnson & Johnson, Verizon, etc) sponsors your run, meaning they donate based on the miles you run for the charity you select. Hurricane recently wrecked an area you love? Habitat for Humanity is there. Want to help hungry families get through the pandemic? Got you covered. Lose your dad to a glioblastoma like me and Meghan McCain? Stand Up To Cancer loves your miles.
I leaned into running a lot when I lost my dad three years ago. The grief was just too big and running gave me whatever I needed at the moment: time to process, a quiet space to grieve, a distraction when it was too much. Charity Miles helps me feel like I’m giving back. And sure, these corporations could afford to donate thousands more than what I can run, but this gives me more purpose.
That’s my sob story. Everybody’s got one. If you are looking for a kind, loving community to get you started on your journey, Charity Miles has you covered there too. Honestly, you could do worse.
I liked the older version better

CharityMiles was great until I updated it about a year ago. The older version allowed me to go back and look at my past times and see if I made any progress on my speed. This newer version doesn't let me do that. Now I feel like I need to use two apps to track my runs as opposed to just one. I've tried to contact the developers multiple times but I have not gotten any response. Regardless, I use it every time I go on runs. I had to re-download it when I factory reset my iPhone and now it won't log me in through Facebook due to some internal error. I hope that deleting CharityMiles and reinstalling will solve that issue, but, if not, could someone please solve this?? I really like the idea that I am giving back by doing something I was going to do anyways.
I'm excited to get moving! I love his app! Me and my daughter whose only 4yr really enjoy watching the numbers go up for charity! I power walk at the mall and she rides in the stroller and we love to check the miles as we meet the halfway points! ❤️ excellent tool, I really enjoy the simplicity of the interface. Simple is best. You open CharityMiles select start and Go! Hit finish when you're done! No nonsense. Thank you for the chance to give back, with my time. Our time is valuable, I give my first to he Lord and I'm glad to give some to help someone else in need. 🙂 #TeamHabitatForHumanity

I’d like to begin by saying what a pleasure it is to be able to contribute towards the improvement of other lives by enjoying one of my favorite hobbies! I have hardly had any issues with CharityMiles in the past but, for some reason today I logged in and places the phone in my pocket while I was running and for some odd reason only register a small fraction of the distance I ran. Maybe it could be that we users need to ensure CharityMiles remains open as it is unable to run on the background (I have an iPhone) while we are using it! Good look and cheers to all of you great souls !

I’m only 15 years old and I love using CharityMiles on a daily. It encourages me to walk home from places rather than riding in a car (which actually helps reduce co2 gases as well). I’ve found that CharityMiles has been wonderful!! As a teenager, I can’t really give money to charities because I don’t have a job. This is my way of giving at such a young age and I’ve enjoyed every moment of it. I encourage others around me to use it at school because I log about 1.5 miles everyday just walking to my classes alone. Yes, Charity miles isn’t always the most accurate on the mileage, but it’s still an outstanding app and I love the idea of it. Keep up the great work :)
Fabulous!

If I could give CharityMiles 20 stars I would. It has been a tremendous incentive to me to exercise more, thus helping build my old osteoporosis ridden bones while helping others at the same time. I use it every chance I get, while cleaning, doing yard work, etc. And every time I use it I know some good company with the smarts and heart will pay the charity of my choice for the miles I walk! It helps the companies because I’m certainly more apt to use their products to help support them in return. And there is even more inventive now that CharityMiles has started adding rewards for miles completed. It just seems to be a win-win-win all around. Kudos and thanks to the Charity Miles developers! Keep up the wonderful work.
App & Podcast

Charity Miles, is an amazing app that allows us to log miles for the charity of our choice. There are tons of charities to choose from, and you do not have to “BE” anything special. It does not cost you a dime! You can join teams—be competitive if you wish too!
There is also a podcast which is an inspiration. It shares incredible feats, great ideas, perseverance, and dedication can make the impossible—possible. If you listen when you do housework—you’ll end up taking your dogs for a walk, running a 5k, and maybe even qualifying for Boston one day. It discusses real life struggles leading to great things—not in a solitary room, but on busy streets across the country! Give it a listen—you will not be disappointed!
I like to use CharityMiles on days when I’m miserable and nothing is going my way. Everyone wants to exercise more...until their shows are on and their day is going wrong. This way I am walking for peace. Every bad day for me is an awesome thing that happened for someone else in a bad situation who can’t solve their problem alone. “If you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far go together.” With CharityMiles I am not stuck alone on my bad days. I am moving towards a world that is a peaceful, helpful, united place for everyone. Peace is not a race, it’s a marathon. So walk, run, bike that marathon when and where you can in however many steps you can because somewhere out there on CharityMiles someone is running it with you.

I installed the app on my phone and tried to sign up. I put in my name and email but it will not let me signup. Am I doing something wrong? It shows "sign up" but it is not lit and nothing happens when I tap on it.

After the latest Android update Charity miles is only allowed location usage when app is in use. It used to be selectable to let the app see my location all the time to keep accurate mileage, That option is not available for phone users now. I believe it has to be an app request. . Now when my screen saver comes on. The app stops working in the background I lose all the miles to be tracked. and when I wake it up it adds some of the miles to the app but not all of it.
