It's OK, to me the tuner is not great

TonalEnergyTunerMetronome was highly recommended by a friend, he had used it in our vocal rehearsals to give us pitches and tempos. I bought it to try and consolidate all the functions I need in to one app. Initially I found the tuner very jumpy, and I don't like the smiley face with concentric half circles tuning model at all, so I wrote a pretty harsh review. The developer contacted me and pointed out the string tuning mode, which I initially couldn't find because it's not in the tuning section; it's under the sound tab. It makes it much easier to tune my guitar (and it has setting for many stringed instruments from viola to banjo) but if I try to sing long tones or play them on my trumpet, I'm back in the happy face tuner. In theory it should work but to me, the slightest pitch change in a long tone causes the rings to jump erratically. I think that the string mode rescued TonalEnergyTunerMetronome from deletion, and added one star to my rating, but I will still sing and play long tones into the free "pano tuner" rather than deal with the unhappy happy faces. Kudos to the developer for helping me find my way around TonalEnergyTunerMetronome . One more quick gripe, if I'm singing with the metronome playing, TonalEnergyTunerMetronome hears the click and reacts to it, so you essentially can't tune with the metronome on.

Where’s Taptic Apple Watch Feature?

I use TonalEnergyTunerMetronome every day but I keep hoping for each update to let me feel the rhythm via taptics via my watch. I thought this update would finally offer it since TonalEnergyTunerMetronome notes speak of fixes to the AppleWatch app. If it’s now included, where is it? How is it accessed? Or does TonalEnergyTunerMetronome just give me a remote control to my phone without taptics? If so, that’s pretty useless since it’s easier to set TonalEnergyTunerMetronome on the phone. If it’s impossible to offer that feature due to limitations of the OS, please state that and I’ll just continue to use TonalEnergyTunerMetronome normally. Otherwise I think TE Tuner is an incredible app for musicians and students.

Good app but don’t like the sound choices

I have just started using TonalEnergyTunerMetronome and it seems to have the main functions I was looking to consolidate from multiple other apps I use - mainly a metronome and a piano keyboard to give me notes to work through vocal practices / figure out harmonies. Also was looking for an app to buy, rather than a free app, because the ads in the free apps get annoying (and seem to be getting worse, e.g. making you watch 5 seconds of a commercial before it allows you to close it). And this one has a tuner to boot. I do have 2 suggestions: 1) Call me crazy, but if I’m just giving myself a note to sing from, I’d love it if the piano keyboard display had the option to sound like a piano. You can make it sound like a whole bunch of different instruments, many with kind of cheesy tones, but piano is not one of them. 2) Would like a mute button on the metronome, such that when in the metronome page, you can see the box (or the screen) flashing the time but without the click. I can accomplish this by turning down the volume on the side of my phone, but it takes a lot of pushes to do that so it can’t be done quickly. Otherwise I do like TonalEnergyTunerMetronome.

Good not quite great

Solid app that I use for practicing. I use mostly the sound wheel as a reference/pedal tone but also use the tuner and metronome sometimes.

It does a lot and actually probably does a little too much - does anyone really use the analyzer for anything practical? :)

Complaints: UI is a little clunky sometimes. For example, in the sound wheel some instruments have limited range and not all octaves work. But if you aren’t paying attention, it just seems like some of the notes aren’t working until you realize that instrument doesn’t go that low/high. But really they should not be included then (the clarinet has 2-3 8ves that are completely non-functional) OR provide some feedback so you k is it isn’t a malfunction and you have to change your octave setting.

The watch app doesn’t work for me - it’s a cool potential feature but I hear no sound for any part of it. The mic also seems to not work for the tuning function. There is also a bug there in the volume control, where you can’t swipe up to close it.

Overall a pretty good purchase but wish those other aspects were better. :)

Mixed meter metronome issues

I love TonalEnergyTunerMetronome and use it nearly every day. It’s an excellent place to start my practicing and rehearsals. The ability to create metronome presets is really helpful, but I find it really difficult to program anything with mixed meter. It’s an issue that doesn’t effect everyone, but I’d really appreciate being able to create a click track for a piece with meter changes where the sixteenth note remains constant. The current process is really clunky and makes things really confusing. It’s also impossible to practice things under tempo without editing every single preset. For a piece with probably 80 meter changes, it’s almost not worth it. The current methods for asymmetrical meters are pretty annoying to deal with. I feel like it’s much more common to see music in 7/8 where the tempo is given by the quarter note rather than dotted quarter, and would love for the interface to reflect that.

Please Add a Spectrogram with lines indicating all twelve chromatic notes

There was an app in the AppStore that is unfortunately no longer here, called pitchlab guitar tuner. Why I preferred it for use in rehearsals such as for my saxophone quartet or saxophone section is because it maps all the notes being played (by multiple people!) on a spectrogram with lines that show the frequency of all twelve chromatic pitches for tuning comparison. If a note was far away from a line, it was out of tune. It was also helpful for being able to see vibrato. Especially if we are working as a section on playing vibrato together, you could actually see if everyone is playing vibrato and see exactly what the vibrato looks like! I already noticed the spectral feature in your app, however I don’t see how it could be useful to musicians given the current design of it. Anyways please add this feature, if you do it’ll make my day :)

Amazing but increasingly buggy

I love TonalEnergyTunerMetronome and use it every practice session, as it has many awesome features that I’ve yet to see elsewhere, including recording analysis, random beat silencing in the metronome, and many options for sound of metronome or drone. However, I find myself frustrated that TonalEnergyTunerMetronome gets buggier each time Apple puts out a new update. My running tally is as follows:

- only uses one of my phone’s main speakers for audio, making any drone or met functions useless on my phone without a Bluetooth device.

- if I use the pitch tab to set a drone and then move to the analysis tab, all my drones stop playing when I move to any other tab, forcing me to either set up all my drones again or to simply just not use this function in conjunction with drones.

- Every time I open TonalEnergyTunerMetronome , I have to swipe down to my phone settings screen for it to register and use my connected Bluetooth device. Very frustrating in conjunction with the first point.

- completely crashes if I get a phone call while recording audio.

None of these issues are deal breakers for me, but they cause me frustration every day, and I would like if updates were more focused on fixing these issues that impact ease of use and functionality over giving us practice streaks and emojis on our tuners.

Amazing value!

I am a music student and lesson teacher so I pretty much use TonalEnergyTunerMetronome every day. I’ve tried a bunch of the other metronome apps on TonalEnergyTunerMetronome Store and none of them even come close to the quality and reliability of this one. The tuner is great and the metronome is reliable and has a ton of subdivisions and time signatures. One of my favorite functions is the ability to create click tracks. I found this to be extremely helpful when practicing pieces that change meter often. You can even save multiple click tracks and share them to others. All in all this is be of the best small purchases I’ve made, well worth the money!

This App Has No Limits

TonalEnergyTunerMetronome is unbelievably detailed and well-designed. It's so versatile that it can hardly be considered just a tuner app. It contains a wide variety of temperaments, and it will allow you to create some of your own. It contains just about (if not) every time signature you'll ever come across. The metronome also allows you to choose which beats are accented and which beats you'd like to take out. TonalEnergyTunerMetronome also allows you to analyze the overtones of a sound, record sounds, generate tones using sine/saw/square waves or the timbre of different musical instruments, and SO much more. I definitely think TonalEnergyTunerMetronome is a luxury that many musicians ought to know about.

AMAZING 100% WORTH THE MONEY

TonalEnergyTunerMetronome is amazing!!! i am a musician, and struggled with many other metronome/tuning apps. none of them worked quite right for me, until a friend recommended tonal energy to me. it’s tuner is amazing and has helped me develop a great, steady tone. i love that there are different settings for how finely you want to be tuned. it’s been very good for me as i progress in my playing. i participate in marching band and a few different concert bands and nearly everyone there has TonalEnergyTunerMetronome. you can ask most anyone who has TonalEnergyTunerMetronome and they will tell you it is 100% worth the money. it’s amazing and worth the time. my musicianship has improved so much since i’ve had tonal energy.

Totally Recommend

I play the French Horn and it is a very difficult instrument, so with this tuner app I have been playing so much better than I was when I didn’t have this tuner. I don’t have experience with other tuner apps so I can’t tell you if they are bad or good, but I can tell you that TonalEnergyTunerMetronome is phenomenal and it is totally worth the money. TonalEnergyTunerMetronome was recommended to me by my private tutor and at first I didn’t have very high hopes cause I am easily disappointed and I got to say this is the first thing that wasn’t a disappointment. This is my very first review on anything since I’m only 13, I hope I wasn’t annoying or rude.

Outstanding!

As a music educator and musician, I cannot express how valuable TonalEnergyTunerMetronome has been to my students and I since I downloaded it at least 7 years ago. Utilizing the iPhone’s microphone, TonalEnergyTunerMetronome is more sensitive to sound than dedicated, battery operated tuners. I utilize TonalEnergyTunerMetronome to tune myself during rehearsals over my actual tuner (flute & piccolo are my primaries). I also use TonalEnergyTunerMetronome to tune my students and put it on transpose mode when I am teaching horn lessons. The fact that it is a metronome as well is amazing! There are a myriad of settings for the metronome that are helpful for any level of practicing and instruction. If you are in need of a tuner, to say TE tuner is well worth the cost is an understatement!

Best met i’ve used

This is absolutely the best met app. With the ability to program the counts for matching practice like dr beat, the litany of met sounds, a tuner, note generator, and ability to switch between just and equal temperaments, tonal energy has everything I could want.

Small error I’ve noticed on the timer part of the metronome app - when you first start the timer, no matter what time you set it for, it defaults to 24 hours. After stopping and re-inputting your time, it works flawlessly for the rest of the time TonalEnergyTunerMetronome is open. So, it’s an annoying bug but not an app-breaking bug. It seems to only happen the first time each time I open TonalEnergyTunerMetronome .

Best Ever!!

This is the Best tool ever for improving tone! I am an inspiring soprano saxophonist—it is one of the most difficult instruments to play in-tune. I struggled for an entire year using other resources and methods to develop my tone. Use of the sustain mode using my Bluetooth headphones has trained my ear to almost perfectly matching tone. The Activity Summary is an exceptional daily journal of my progress and has helped me to troubleshoot my embrouchure. Over a three week period my tone quality has improved 65%. I’m SOOOO excited about my progress and future as a sexy senior sax player…. Regardless of where you are in your musical journey Be sure to get TonalEnergyTunerMetronome! Best tool EVER for developing your ear and refining your sound!

Great Musical Tool

This TE Tuner has helped me greatly. A suggestion. Add voice to the tuner so that when you are not hitting the notes exactly as they should be played, an AI added application could perhaps say” you are in tune but to hit the note in the middle while playing your instrument, I’m using trumpet as an example, the TE Tuner would say “you might want to use a little less air, or try to maintain the airflow longer without a break in air flow “.

This is a great tool. Whoever developed it did a great job. I would love as I practice my trumpet lessons or even playing one note, I could get an instant playback without going into another app on the TE Tuner. Streamline the tuner so that ease of use is enhanced. When I say streamline the tuner I mean with the incorporation of AI, through voice recognition it

Tuner is out of tune?

I compared the tuner function against multiple korg model timers and found TonalEnergyTunerMetronome to be all over the map with the tuning. Some notes that were in tune on the korg tuners were showing 15 cents flat or sharp!! That is a problem with TonalEnergyTunerMetronome . How can you have a “tuning” app out of tune? I’ll be sticking with the korg.

BTW they were both set at 440

UPDATE: I revised my original rating from 2 stars to 5. First because after a great response by the developer I discovered that I had a setting incorrect even though the Hz setting was correct. Second because of the excellent customer service! I never expected Total Energy to read my review but they did and they reacted to make sure I was satisfied. That is rare these days!!! Awesome tuner...I have since retested TonalEnergyTunerMetronome vs. the various Korg model tuners I have and they are all spot on!

The perfect tool for musicians

TE Tuner is the perfect tool for musicians. It is way more than a tuner. It has an extremely flexible useful metronome, it generates sounds for drone work, and it’s analysis page is useful on so many levels it’s hard to begin to say which feature is the best. As a woodwind player I use it to analyze my airstream, my tuning and watch my timing. TonalEnergyTunerMetronome also allows the user to record themselves, using high-quality audio files if needed. These files can be exported for use in other apps, or to share with others, and audio files can be imported into TonalEnergyTunerMetronome .

I have been recommending TonalEnergyTunerMetronome to all my students, and just about any other musician who I encounter. I use it every day during my practice sessions and it has become an indispensable tool for my daily practice.

If I could give this 10 stars I would. I cannot recommend TE Tuner more highly.

So much more than a tuner

I use TonalEnergyTunerMetronome every day for myself and my students. There are so many useful tools in the metronome plus section, allowing me to have preset click tracks to help students learn when and how to subdivide in their music. I can also make click tracks with drones for warmups which has greatly helped resonance an intonation. The drone tool within clock tracks is so helpful allowing me to take the brain power from playing chords on the piano, to tapping on each pre programmed drone I made for my students to match. The sound wave function is also so helpful for students to see their volume and pitch alter on note changes both as soloists and as an ensemble on their warmups and literature.

Your teaching will be so much more organized and streamlined if you really delve into TonalEnergyTunerMetronome. Take time to read up or go to one of their professional development sessions!

Great Gadget!

I use TonalEnergyTunerMetronome every day. I especially like the metronome features. I program in the meters and measures of my Brass Band music at tempo then I can play through each piece without stopping to check my tempo through the changes. TonalEnergyTunerMetronome allows you to put in rits. and every other variation of tempo needed in performance. I also use the drones for long tone practices. If during a rehearsal there is a questionable interval, I just write down what pitch the other guys got and when I get home I work with the tuner/drone just to make sure that my parts where it needs to be.I haven’t started to dive into the practice log yet. So except for the practice log I use every other feature that I know TonalEnergyTunerMetronome is capable of every day. I personally find it to be a very robust and flexible program. The updates are always current. I’ve never had any response problems with it. I couldn’t even imagine not having TonalEnergyTunerMetronome. As an older person it is a tool I really wish I could’ve had when I was starting out.

Phenomenal App

I am extremely grateful to the team behind TonalEnergyTunerMetronome. I use it every day in my teaching as a band director. In sectionals and even in some band rehearsals, I project the tuner onto a screen for students to use as a reference. The metronome has become more sophisticated over the years and I have found that to be useful for myself as well, and my primary instrument was percussion, so a versatile metronome is important to me. I have not used the analysis portion of TonalEnergyTunerMetronome much at all but know people who do and find it highly useful. I hope TonalEnergyTunerMetronome will continue to be developed for a long time to come. Thanks to Philip Geiger and the team for putting this together!
