New "assistant" is awful

The error check has been replaced with the "assistant" that more or less automatically marks all errors or fixes them. The old error check gave you a hint to the area where the error was instead of just outright showing you. Awful. Can't condone. Hopefully it doesn't show up in any of the other Conceptis apps or they'll have to get a low rating, too. Such a shame. No other apps of these kinds of puzzles (especially the Nonagrams) have such an intuitive and fantastic interface and control scheme. All others are inferior, but I just can't handle the "assistant" anymore.

Love game, but don’t like the new assistant

There are several issues that I agree with the comments. First off it is too expensive for so few puzzles but instead Of not playing anymore, I just restart the puzzle packs I have.

My main issue is with the new assist button. I like where it used to just tell you a play was wrong when you made it. .Now I could have made multiple moves before I realize that there’s an error and when I go to see where the area is. It shows me exactly what needs to change. That’s a problem!

Way too expensive

I absolutely love this game. It’s really fun and challenging which keeps me playing for hours. The problem is that they only give you a couple of free packs, and each pack after that costs at least $3. Once I got the hang of the game, I’m blowing through puzzle packs really quickly, and it’s too expensive to keep playing. I don’t mind paying for a really great game, but the price is outrageous. I mean $3 for a puzzle pack that I’ll blow through in an hour is just too expensive. It would be great if they either lowered the price or made puzzle packs bigger so you’d get more for your money. If not, then unfortunately I’ll have to stop playing.

Not quite satisfied

Great game, love it! So why 3 stars and not 5?

First, way to expensive! Really!

Second:
I really enjoy this game, although I might not have figured the logic out quite yet, I cannot solve the puzzles out by just using logic. And I am good. Or.. is there another reason?

There are times I make it through half the screen until I run into a stop, how can I get that far without getting stuck! That is way to far, and frustrating to search back. Then I noticed something.

The reason could be that there are areas were 2 options are possible, but only one is accepted as right, that will cause problems further away if you choose the wrong one.

It took me a while to figure that out, it was not until that issue appeared twice at the very end of the puzzles, I realized that if I run into those areas in the middle of the game, I have no way of knowing if I pick the ”right or the wrong” choice.

In other similar puzzle game, puzzles where that might happen are are marked, clearly indicating that there are different solutions. Like Nonogram Cross Me for example.

Great puzzle game, enhancement suggestion

This game has brought me many hours of head-scratching enjoyment. The images are very entertaining, and I enjoy the variety.

One minor issue for me is sometimes when I pinch and zoom, I accidentally change a cell I did not intend to change. Finding my mistake is very difficult. I think I have some color blindness because the red color used to show errors is hard to discern, especially on the larger puzzles, and especially for the cells marked with an ‘x’. Maybe a feature that temporarily blurs out the correct cells and the unmarked cells, leaving only the cells with errors, or temporarily enlarges incorrect cells is an alternative.

When I do a very large puzzle, and I think it is complete with no errors, I realize there are one or two cells I still need to mark. However, even on an iPad using the zoom feature, it is hard to find the unmarked cell. A “show me empty areas feature would be very helpful, maybe similar to showing cells with errors.

Needs a hint function or more robust tutoring

I’m a logic puzzle junkie. I’m very good at them and also do math for a living so the point is that I’m good at logic. However, this type of puzzle is new to me so I found it very frustrating at first.

The only reason I stuck with it is because I’m stubborn but it would be so much more enjoyable if they had an option to give hints on advanced logic puzzles (NOT free spaces but the deductive steps to getting a square) and/or a tutorial that went over the main strategies for the advanced puzzles.

The actual gameplay is very user friendly—but all Conceptis puzzles have great UIs so that’s no surprise—and is a pleasure to play.

Skil-O-Gram With Numbers!

Do you remember Skill-O-Gram puzzles for so many years? Conceptis Fill-A-Pix has digits 0 to 9 all over, and many blank squares! Ultimately, it ends with pictures that in the 70's would have appeared on those old electronic scoreboards that sometimes had alternated into moving cartoons for entertainment! I bought two of the company's books--one was for Christmas Eve in 2009, and the other for my birthday in 2010! But once you solve it, the numbers cannot return.

(I did this original comment in 2013, but barely knew Fill-A-Pix then. You now, as you did nine years ago, can restart a puzzle so that numbers return into view and then make the same picture.
Next year, why not try to invent Fill-A-Pix Color which another website already does have, using the same single-digit numbers 0 to 9, but also
extend number of puzzles in refill sets to 25?
And in FAPC, work out puzzles with assorted colors.)

Enjoyable logic style puzzles

I have been a fan of Japanese picture puzzles for 25 years or so, and Conceptis has been providing me with great puzzles from day one. FillaPix allows puzzlers to complete fill-in style pics without issues of smudged hands and hard to see squares. My only concerns are (1) app really needs a tablet to function 100% and (2) not enough puzzles per $$$ pack, and that cost really adds up. I reset old packs to offset cost, BTW. Still a great app well worth downloading for puzzle fans.

Great game

Logic puzzles with simple goals, but use complex patterns to accomplish them, are favourites of mine. Fill-A-Pix certainly qualifies. The only issue I have is that there is no "Hint" help- something that shows a new player some simple steps that will work on the puzzle being played. A cool addition would be a 'find-solved' option that shows you a nine-grid that has all the blacks or all the whites done and just needs to be completed. Would really help when a complex picture seems to be done, but has a couple of pixels still untouched.

Simple but satisfying

Love these puzzles. I used to get puzzles from their website before they converted many of them to iPad. This is one of the most successful. Simple idea but compelling and satisfying to complete. Highly recommend if you like logic puzzles.

UPDATE: Still playing, still enjoy. They’ve made some improvements to the interface but haven’t cluttered it up with bells and whistles that don’t add anything to the games. I have 6 or 7 Conceptis puzzles that I play almost daily. This is one of my top 2 faves. It engages my brain enough to scratch my puzzle itch, but I can do it even when I’m tired or distracted, at least with the basic level.

Fun game, suggest adding a hint option.

UPDATE: Conceptis has updated the game to address the concerns noted below, I really like what they have done - a great game! ********** I really enjoy the game overall and have worked through most of the free games, including the weekly freebies. However, some of the larger, advanced puzzles can be VERY difficult and frustrating. Sometimes, I may stare at a puzzle for an hour and not see any options from the clues given - that gets frustrating (I am currently over 10 hours on one puzzle alone). I don’t see a “hint” option, which I strongly suggest adding, so I can start to see clues to look for. You provide a “solve” option, but that doesn’t help me learn clues. If a hint option was available, I would be much more likely to buy the other games. As is, I probably won’t.

Fun, no ads, your identity is safe

This is a fun and unique puzzle game! There are various difficulty; you can choose what suits your mood. Challenging, relaxing, your choice.
One free puzzle a week. If you want more, they provide bunch of sets of puzzles for reasonable prices ($2 - $8 for 20 puzzles depending on the difficulty).
There is no ads at all. Not like other free apps, no data is link to you. Your identity is safe.
If you like this game, I’d recommend checking out other games from this company. They are fun too!

Love this app

I spend hours doing the really hard giant advanced puzzles. My time playing went way up when the cursor went away and allowed full functionality of the touch screen. Yes the puzzle packs can seem pricy but I’m getting probably 50 hours out of a 20 pack of huge puzzles so I don’t mind supporting my favorite puzzle company. My next wish is to not have to go back and forth to the top icons anymore so figuring out some function of the touchscreen to do undo and switch in and out of the big square mode would be awesome. Thanks for making an awesome app and continuing to update it!!!

Very good puzzler

Easy to learn, hard to master. My favorite kind of game. It’s easy to jump into a puzzle and play for a few minutes or for a few hours.

One suggestion: I’d like an option to highlight squares that have too many painted or blank neighboring squares. I don’t that the “show errors” mode shows exactly which square is filled incorrectly. If there is a “2” square with 3 painted neighbors, I’d rather the “2” square be highlighted instead of the incorrectly painted neighbor.

So much fun!

This is one of my favorite apps and I keep coming back to it day after day. The rules are simple to understand but the mind-bending challenges can range from simple to really challenging. If I get stuck they have included a nice hint feature but it is always possible to complete a puzzle without using it once you have figured out some of the configurations to look for to help solve the puzzles. It is well worth the cost for the packages and the best part is that there are _never_ any ads! Plus, I can go back and replay old packages several times, especially if it has been a while since I initially played them and it’s just like brand-new. Highly recommended it you like logic puzzles and pixel art!

Perfect

This is the kind of puzzle game I can see myself playing until I’m dead in the ground. The simplicity really makes it. When I’m playing, its just me and the board, and the techniques I’ve learned all by myself, and my pride in doing so. Nothing is quite so fulfilling as working your brain on a huge board for a total of eight hours and finally being presented with the fruits of your labor, knowing that it was all you, noone and nothing else.

Great logic puzzles!

I love nonogram puzzles but Fill-a-Pix are my FAVORITE type of number puzzle. For me, it’s like mine sweeper, but “mines” (colored blocks) form a picture when I’m done. Conceptis makes some of the best logic puzzles out there and they have at least 6 kinds on their website. You can play online or download digital books . From Sudoku, Kakuro, and Battleship, to Fill-a-Pix, Pick-Pix , and Link-a-Pix there is something for everyone! FillaPix gives you a set of free Fill-a-Pix puzzles plus about 4 free weekly puzzles. But you can also download other puzzle packs. Prices range around $5 for 20 puzzles (sometimes less) but you clean the slate and replay owned puzzles anytime. So definitely check it out! They also have really large puzzles for your Ipad.

Simple, but great

Whenever I want to play a game but I’m not in the mood to play something more involved, Fill-a-Pix is the perfect choice. With simple rules, a spartan but functional interface, and tons upon tons of downloadable (IAP) levels spanning everything from very small puzzles to massive iPad-only huge ones, very easy to impossibly hard, and across a wide range of topics, there’s enough here to keep me busy for years.

And years is how long I’ve been playing Fill-a-pix, in fact. I’m grateful that the developer continues to add new level packs even after all this time. The developer’s other number puzzle games are also well worth trying, though I keep coming back to Fill-a-pix time and time again.

Update: Still playing Fill-A-Pix regularly, all these years later. Nikoli, you really know how to deliver a number puzzle game that is simple yet engaging.

Hours of fun

This game comes with several free packs to try it out. This alone lasts a good while. After that, they have tons of packs to buy. From 99¢ to $5.99. Each pack has 20 puzzles. Bigger puzzles cost more. And take longer. It can be hard sometimes, especially with the bigger puzzles, but you get unlimited hints and error checking. Theres 0 ads just a simple screen and you are set.

Fiendish but mad good game

This is a fantastic game. It’s one of the best games Conceptis has to offer. I don’t spend money on games in general but I buy puzzle packs for Pic-a-Pix and other Conceptis games because I appreciate that these are high quality games and there’s no nonsense involved. These are some of the most interesting puzzles out there to solve, and there isn’t a constant stream of disruptive ads ruining the experience. If you love this game, throw them a couple dollars once in a while (you can restart packs and get a lot of plays out of them before they become too familiar).
