Golf Channel Reviews

The new version of GolfChannel is disorganized, almost chaotic - it is just impossible to navigate to scores and stories in a logical manner. Who thought this was a good idea? Can I give this mess zero stars? Please, take this back to the developer. Hurry.

After living with the V 4.7.1 upgrade for a couple of weeks, I can say that the Golf Channel App has joined the infamous CBS Sports - NCAA basketball “Coverage Gap” as obnoxious and disrespectful to golf fans everywhere (CBS uses the time to refresh “Sir Nick’s” makeup, I guess).

The CBS issue can be avoided by finding coverage elsewhere on the web. As for the Golf Channel App, all I have to do is hit “Delete” - Bye-bye!

Ratings have gone from 4.1 out of 5 before the updated app to less than 3, now 2.9 out of 5. I expect the ratings will sink further from this low level.

If I wanted to follow every golfer’s social media or pictures of Paige and Paulina and Natalie and every other attractive woman who adds little to the sport, I could follow them on Facebook or Instagram or who cares what other place - it’s not the information or views I come to the Golf Channel app to obtain. It truly is time to go.

Wake up, Golf Channel!

GolfChannel has been excellent in the past. Apparently there’s been a new patch that broke everything because 1) chrome cast doesn’t work at all 2) you can’t watch for more than 10 minutes at the absolute maximum without getting a “mulligan” endless buffering error and 3) very often literally none of the tabs will load even their home screen and redownloading GolfChannel does nothing. Extremely disappointing. Seems the problem is also not limited to GolfChannel as I have not been able to get the stream on any of my computers either.

Not sure what’s happening with your golf show production but I’m very disappointed. Number and length of commercials has exceeded anything I’ve ever watched - even the Super Bowl. The split screen is a disaster. The overall standing isn’t going to change for two/three hours but it takes almost 20% of the split screen and you won’t show any information on the match your trying to show on the split screen. Somebody in your organization needs to make some major changes with the overall focus on what you think the viewers would like to watch or see. Please take a serious look at changing your focus or I’m going to delete your apps and stop watching your telecast.

I’m watching The Open on NBC Golf on TV and I’m not sure if NBC knows that there’s more then just Rory Mcilroy, Gary Woodland, and Paul Casey. If you didn’t know people like Rickie Fowler and Si Woo Kim out there have good rounds but because it’s Rory’s home course he’s the only one who’s going to be on TV. Paul Casey might be the only one in that group to make the cut but he’s getting the least amount of tv time because we have the US Open champion and hometown boy out there, so we don’t care about the other people. Also I get it’s in the UK but that doesn’t mean that only people from the UK get to be on TV. I watched a hour of golf and only saw people from the UK. During the US Open there was just a hour of US players on TV.

I’m been using the previous version for what seems forever. I’m an avid golfer and probably use it 3-4 times a day reading about different golfers and general articles about Golf. When a Tournment is being played, I’m on it frequently checking scores etc. I find your new app extremely difficult to use, mainly the print is so small I need reading glasses to navigate through the info. Unfortunately I will have to look for another source to give me the latest information on what’s happening in the professional golf world. This is a prefect example of taking an excellent product and not talking to the users before making changes.

Short version: I accepted the previous version’s redo of the presentation of GolfChannel grudgingly thinking I’d get accustomed to it. Now an update comes in and the only layout allowed is portrait. Into the dumper GolfChannel goes; I’ll use the web page or another app instead.

Long version: I keep the Golf Channel app in my iPad dock as it is, but now was, my go-to golf news app. I also use my iPad exclusively in landscape mode, unless I have no choice for an app I need. The version that was in place for years was, to me, logical, easy to navigate, and gave me the info I needed in the format I liked. Then the n-1 version came out, the articles and sections were redone to the point where it took some effort to find what previously easily was accessed. I thought it was a change I’d get used to over time. Then the current version, #477, came out, and, despite the splash screen presenting in landscape mode, once the content is filled, the screen flips to portrait mode, with no options I can find to override that in the settings panel.

Bottom line, GolfChannel will leave my dock, GolfChannel will be put in the dust bin and I’ll find my golf news elsewhere.

It was fun while it lasted.

I never write app reviews but GolfChannel became so terrible that I just have to share with anyone who has anything to do with the design needs to start over, not try to fix it. There was no way to view anything horizontally on a pad you have to watch things vertically, may have been fixed.....articles are difficult to find....on air personality posts can’t be found simply and can’t be responded to, and on and on. Really it is embarrassing that the single largest source of golf information can’t get its act together. I am using other apps for scoring and golf information more often, hope Taylor Made’s ads are worth it, super tired of Rahm...

Articles in News and Opinion don't display at all , just blank white pages with a very small , barely visible animated ellipsis in the center ... as if it's indicating it's trying to load something. I used GolfChannel all the time for golf news , now it's useless. Whoever made the latest updates , complete failure
*****Comments above were from a year ago , after another terrible update. This update is just as bad or worse. Content is becoming lousy . Social media junk and cheesy pics of pretty women. As everyone notes , it's portrait mode only now , which is useless on an iPad. Whoever the developers are for GolfChannel , give them an F for this mess.

Kicks me out randomly when watching short or live videos. GolfChannel crashes When typing in my TV provider info. I have to log into my provider every time I want to watch live events and if I get lucky it logs in but crashes constantly..
When I add favorites (players) it’s resets every time I log back in.. you guys have to have a major update on GolfChannel . It has a lot of potential but currently it’s terribly inconsistent and tiresome.. all it’s good for is checking scores .. forgot to mention sometimes I have too delete GolfChannel and re-download it when it starts to act up badly

I share the opinions of many other recent reviews. The new update is not good. Difficult to navigate now and nearly impossible to read scores. Font is in micro format.

3/3/18 - so an update to the last failed update was implemented. The "fix" is to turn your view to portrait now which you have no control over. While the font is slightly better, I find this adjustment quite annoying. Just go back to something closer to the previous version prior to the past two updates. I like the information you get in GolfChannel, but make it user friendly again. PLEASE!

I have never written an app review before, but after years of using the Golf Channel app with only one complaint (more on that in the next paragraph), I feel compelled to say that your latest upgrade is one of the worst upgrades to any app I have ever used. The fonts are so small that text can barely be seen and so gray that text can hardly be distinguished from the background. There's way too much white space between names and scores and between one name and the next, so you can't gather in a lot of information all at once, and there's no box or line (just the faint word "Leaderboard" separating favorite players from the full field scores.

My one consistent complaint is the backseat that the LPGA takes in the "Tournaments this Week" list and, usually, in the "News" section.

Disappointing.

Constantly takes forever to load a page. I get the ‘slow connection’ all throughout the day despite having gigabit internet at home and fast service when I’m out. Everything works fine until I open GolfChannel. Saturday I clicked on the leaderboard for The Open and it actually read ‘ no active tournaments to report.’ Lol. No, just a major tournament going on not to mention the Barbasol. Poor performance and constantly crashes. I give it a bogey at best.

The logging in / connecting to your cable provider always feels like a science project trying to get it to work. Every time I’ve finally gotten it to work, it’s taken nearly 30 minutes of going back and forth with customer service. I feel like GolfChannel needs to save cable provider info once it’s entered and keep you connected Vs always making you login again — this seems to be where the headache stems from.
PS: My issues have nothing to do with internet speeds.

I love the golf channel and have been watching since it was first put on the air. What kills me is the streaming version of golf channel live through GolfChannel . It always crashes, and it is rare that I can open it up to watch whatever coverage where GolfChannel doesn’t crash or the streaming never freezes. I can be on a strong WiFi or using my cell data and I see the same issues. I would tune in more but GolfChannel makes it very difficult to stay connected to the coverage or enjoy what I love most..... Golf.

For years, I have used the golf channel app. It was easy to navigate and featured an intelligent layout. Worked very well. That all changed with this update.

My only complaint of the previous design was the negative tone allowed in user commentary. It almost always ended up in personal attacks, etc. Which were worthless.

I will give this update a chance to grow on me or perhaps get a couple of edits. I would hate to delete GolfChannel after all these years, but if this had been GolfChannel previously, I doubt I would've stayed.

On several occasions, GolfChannel locks up upon opening. The background is there and cycles brighter and darker. There is no content. My iPhone 11 has the latest software. If this happened once or twice, no big deal, but it’s happened at least 10 times over the last several months. On another note, the scores for golf while the tournaments are ongoing are excessively delayed. ESPN scores are more up to date. Please improve the refresh rate.

I always have my iPhone handy when I am watching Golf on TV because when I want to know something about a player I can look on the Golf Channel app and it will give me all kinds of info about the golfer like when he turned pro and how much money he has made Of course there is much more 🏌🏿‍♂️

With the new update I no longer have the feature “my favorite players” that I use to be able to open the leader board and see where the players I keep up with are at or even if the are playing in a specific tournament. This should be fixed ASAP! I might as well be using the ESPN app without this feature.

I loved GolfChannel till this week. All my favorites that I’ve been following for years are gone! Circles and squares for birdies, bogeys, etc. are gone. Initially, showing current round is gone. Did you actually pay programmers to ruin your app?
I have an iPhone, so maybe these horrible changes do not apply to Droids.
I’m very disappointed and hope fir the slim chance that these reviews are read. Please, hire back the old programmers.

I don't know which is worse, GolfChannel or trying to understand what Cara Robinson is saying. It seems whenever I try to look at videos and photos on GolfChannel , it times out almost immediately and goes back to my IPad home screen. Today I tried to view The Open on the Golf Channel app after work and you guessed it...it would not load and kept taking me back to my IPad home screen. Golf Channel should be ashamed to offer a product that is worse than hitting a shank. FIX THE BUGS !!!

You can do better. Other than checking scores I haven’t jumped into GolfChannel for much else in a long time. It used to be smooth and made sense. So why the plummeting reviews. It’s just a golf channel app for articles, videos and scores right? They have limitless resources to give you the best app possible right? No really that’s a question that needs answering.
Videos rarely load upon start up then Just wanted to read some articles. Opened one. Read it and tried to watch a video in the article. That was painstakingly ridiculous. The video was clunky and couldn’t be controlled. No landscape? Really? Climbed out of that mess to read the next article and had to scroll back down to where I had left off. So you get air lifted to the top of the whole building every time? Why is simplicity lost update after update? Keep the simple things simple.

Really enjoy GolfChannel when it works. Sadly always riddled with bugs. For weeks I haven’t been able to scroll through articles as one example. Wish there was a way to report bugs so that GolfChannel could continue to improve as well as remain stable.

we have all heard the old adage of watching paint dry , well listening to Paul Azinger at the 1/2023 Sentry Tournament is like listening to paint dry. The man is just terrible

Watched some of the TOTO from Japan and can't believe how poor the commentary is. My god you got the leader and the number one player teeing off together and they just show the leader, are these women commentators that stupid that they don't realize that people would like to see both tee off. This wouldn't happen on the men's tour, but then some things go without saying I guess.

Looked forward today watching final round of the BMW mens final. Absolutely unacceptable you split the screen to show the womens tour. If I wanted to watch it I would have switched channels. This is what happens when you have a female commentator. And a poor one at that Stop showing the split screen and show the mens tour. Also get a decent commentator that does not prefer the woman’s tour over the men.
