The best way to read the newspaper on your IPad

WisconsinStateJournal is the only way I like to read my newspaper when I am away from the paper copy. In some ways, it is better than the paper version. I don’t have go to another page and find the continuation when I am reading an article. I even use it sometimes when the paper version is available because it is easier than finding the right section of the paper. I do like the paper version in the morning to go right to what I am after!

Wisconsin State Journal

Both my husband, Allen, and I love being able to read our Wisconsin State Journal while we winter in Florida. Not only that, but if we miss a day we can scroll back to a previous issue.
The cost is very reasonable and we aren’t killing any trees. It’s a relaxing joy keeping up with the news. And right now 14 Feb 21, we are very glad we do not have to deal with -30 wind chills. As seniors it’s hard to get out and walk and enjoy the outdoors in that kind of weather. Thank you for going online and keeping us informed.

Rural without access to daily delivery of WI State Journal

Coffee with our morning coffee was our daily ritual for more than 50 years in Wisconsin. Then we downsized to a small rural log cabin too far from a town to have daily delivery. The Wisconsin State Journal app makes it possible to read our favorite newspaper without having to wait for stale news via postal service. We can do easily read the paper anywhere, anytime.

Portability is tops

My husband and I travel for several months at a time due to work. It is great to be able to keep up with Wisconsin local, state, and the world news wherever we go. It is easy to turn pages and to skip forward to what section we want. If I miss a day, I can look at past issues. I also like the crossword puzzle and Word Wonder, and I can print it our easily on my printer.

Easy to use

The digital version of the Journal is so easy to access and read. We especially like it when we travel and can still read what’s happening back in Madison, especially with the terrific Badger sports coverage. The ability to access articles in large print and move seamlessly between pages and sections is a great feature.

Keep local journalism alive!

This is a great app that allows you to still enjoy reading the paper at an affordable price. I had to push myself to read online instead of flipping real pages, but I’ve come to love it on my laptop or tablet. Thank you, Lee Enterprises, for giving us a more affordable way to keep our daily paper. Write on keeping us informed as voters and citizens!

Could be better

If there was someway to reload pages, it would be very nice. I will get to certain pages and have to wait and wait for the page to refresh. It also would be nice if when going to the next page, it would go to the top of the next page. I get kind of tired of ending up at the bottom of the next page and then have to scroll back up.

Get behind the pay wall, support journalism!

I like having a free press. Free means "not under the foot of government" not "i don't have to pay you for your work."

Yeah, subscribe! Currently $5 a month. The NYT costs me $20 a month, so this is a reasonable price.

WisconsinStateJournal works well, benefited from some tweaks to zoom in preferences. Very readable on my iPad and I have issues with reading. I spent more time reading this than I do the print version, and less recycling!

If you are having ads and surveys, make sure you are logged in correctly and that you have subscribed. Lots of negative reviews here by non subscribers, so let's be clear, freedom isn't free and neither is the daily local newspaper. If we don't feed it, it will go away.

Helps environment

The online State Journal is easy to read. We find it a friendly app and got into the habit of reading the paper while drinking a morning cup of coffee — no need to change out of our pajamas to get the morning news. We decided to give up the print version entirely, thus greatly reducing the pile of paper in our recycling bin.

Feature Laden

I can zoom in on pictures, I can easy print items & going through pages is easy. I’m comparing this to another towns paper which I can’t zoom into a photo or print/copy an item. As for content the paper is generally balanced, informative and I really appreciate the comic & puzzle pages. Well done!

No physical paper to dispose of.

Since it became available I have always read the electronic version when traveling but kept the physical version. With the pandemic I stopped the physical version for a period of time and liked it so much I dispensed with getting the physical paper. One big advantage is there is no longer a physical paper to dispose of.

Happy to be saving trees

I didn’t know if I would be able to get used to not holding a paper in my hand. It didn’t take long, however, and now it feels strange to me to be reading a print copy of the newspaper. The digital copy is also cheaper and I feel that I am doing something good for the environment.

Enjoy the option

I really prefer reading the print newspaper in the morning. However, when my schedule doesn’t allow this or it’s storming outside (print copy is across the road), I appreciate the ability to read it online.

Great alternative to print

I've used WisconsinStateJournal on a MacBook, iPad and iPhone and the rendering of the newsprint in each case is quite good. Navigation between pages and sections is easy and intuitive.
Sometimes the comics don't zoom in very clearly, though.

One thing I'd like to see in a future version is with regard to drilling down on a given article; the "close" button is on the top of the article rather than the bottom, which often requires scrolling to then find and click.

Otherwise WisconsinStateJournal is a good and comparable alternative or supplement to the print version.

Digital subscription

Love having the paper digitally. I haven’t gotten a copy for many years due to rising cost and didn’t realize how much I’d missed. The digital version is easy to navigate and I’m impressed how readily text comes into focus when you enlarge the type.

WSJ makes my morning!

I enjoy reading that Wisconsin State Journal every morning on my phone or my tablet. I am an elderly person and this is a wonderful service. I can keep up-to-date with the news wherever I am . Thank you and keep up the service!

By

Convenient e-version

Very convenient to have an e-version of the newspaper. I am unaffected by delivery delays caused by weather, and I have the newspaper with me when I travel. WisconsinStateJournal isn’t perfect... it occasionally has some glitches... but it always works well enough.

Search does not work

I was looking for an article about a train incident. I had the correct date (8/7/21). I searched for "Train" but the article did not appear in the results. Eventually, I found the article on page A5 -- there it is -- and my search term, "Train", is in the article's headline. A Google search found it online! But no results using an in-app search. And the navigation icons are confusing -- they make no sense.

E-edition offers flexibility

As I adapt to the features of the WSJ online, it’s fun to read or listen to a story, or email or copy a pithy comment for later reference. Heck, it even translates into several languages if you wish.
Thanks for the E-edition that I can read wherever I go.

App closes as soon as daily edition tries to open

Updated everything on iPad, deleted and rebooted, reinstalled app, and WisconsinStateJournal still closes itself the moment I try to open any daily edition to read it. WSJ staff has been useless for solving the issue despite multiple attempts at troubleshooting.

Love it

Cool app. I prefer reading the local paper with WisconsinStateJournal on my phone. Pinch, zoom, swipe.

By

Broken

App stopped working this week, just sits at the loading screen forever.

Does not work with iOS 14

No longer works with iOS14. Are the developers aware of this? Text vanishes and WisconsinStateJournal keeps shutting down.

mikese

Crashes a lot, doesn't scroll well. No Sunday comics. Definitely needs some improvements.

Horrible

On May 27, 2013 I paid for a year subscription to WisconsinStateJournal through the iTunes store. I downloaded WisconsinStateJournal and have never been able to log into WisconsinStateJournal . It wants me to pay for the subscription again. Maybe iTunes never forwarded the money to WSJ. Not my problem! I've tried sending emails to addresses at the WSJ with no replies. And there is nothing in their posting on this site that shows me how to contact them. So I'm out $40. Well, at least I can go into my admin on my iTunes account and keep it from renewing.

Awesome!!!

Works great. I can read the paper wherever I am and it cuts down on the recycling.

By

Not quite a replica of the print edition

Most days as you have the same content as the print edition including the 77 square , Neighbors and Parade inserts. You will not receive the Sunday comics or the wedding/birthday announcements. Some of the captions unreadable on New IPad, zooms in blurry.

By

Need improvement

Won't let me view paper and crashes all the time when trying! Very disappointing!

By

Crashes and forgets password

Immature. Very basic functionality. Crashes frequently and drops password.

By

By
