From bad to worse

Like many, I have had WeatherHiDefLiveRadar for years and still miss the slider. This has been a frustration for years. I have settled that it is gone. Over the last couple years, I have also looked for a replacement app and found none that compared to WeatherHiDefLiveRadar for resolution of radar and speed of loading. I also use RadarScope Pro alongside WeatherHiDefLiveRadar, but it is a more complex app and loads slower. I have liked the speed and resolution of WeatherHiDefLiveRadar.

Until recently, I have been fine running a year old version of WeatherHiDefLiveRadar , concerned that I would not like the updates and I was content with WeatherHiDefLiveRadar as it was. But today, it just hung and hung and would not load any radar imagery. I figured it may be my old version causing a problem, even though it loaded yesterday just fine. So I updated it... wow, what a piece of junk app this has become. It is near exact to storm radar from the weather channel app but you have to pay for future radar also instead of it being included free. The resolution is so bad, so bad, so bad. You should probably change the name of WeatherHiDefLiveRadar away from Hi-Def. I will not continue to use this product anymore. I have rode out the disappointments for years, with it remaining a better option than many, but this latest version is a fatal wound.

Best weather app

Living in Hawaii the weather is as indecisive as can be. We have passing showers and those really affect me. Not to mention I love rain and geek out when I can tell my friends it’s about to rain and it actually does. WeatherHiDefLiveRadar is flawless. Ive tried to see who the developers are and figure out how their tech is so much more advanced than say the weather channel or NOAA: Clime. WeatherHiDefLiveRadar does exactly what it is intended to accomplish. Even if there is just a brief drizzle, WeatherHiDefLiveRadar will guaranteed show me at least 5 minutes before it’s arrival. One suggestion, I would purchase the subscription if you had Doppler rain alerts. If you could alert users when Doppler shows rain enroute this would literally be the best app ever.

ALSO: please update your developer website

Bad reviews disappear

If they’d at least give us a REFUND for what we paid since this junk is now free they could at least get some decent parting reviews.I’ve written reviews, comparisons to the original PAID APP and also made suggestions for improvements numerous times and they all disappear or get blocked as inappropriate. I guess that’s how they rig the numbers so it appears like bunches of people like it when quite the opposite is true! I paid for WeatherHiDefLiveRadar back when it WAS good but now it’s just too ridiculous to tolerate... there’s way too many seriously GOOD WX apps out there to tolerate this type of amateur extortion. Do yourself a favor and don’t download it to start with. If you’re one of the many many users that paid money back when it WAS a good app then cut your losses and delete it before this piece of junk gives you an ulcer as you watch these people constantly remove functionality then “offer” it to you if you’ll pay for it. Really people? Apparently the new authors are in elementary school and WeatherHiDefLiveRadar is a social study project on how gullible smart phone users have become!
G-bye... loosers

Nicely laid out, not worthy of a subscription though.

What drives me nuts about WeatherHiDefLiveRadar is it’s constant need for you to subscribe to its paid service for reasons I find difficult to want to pay money for. I mean, I wouldn’t mind paying a fee but WeatherHiDefLiveRadar would have to be on point and by on point I mean work all the time and load quickly. I have read other reviews and people state that it loads the maps quickly. I just think these people have become comfortable with the term “mind numbingly slow” and that’s as good as it’s going to get. No, if you want my money, your app has to perform. Paying a service for a weather map that takes in some cases, up to 2 mins to fully load is not acceptable by today’s standards. Sometimes it doesn’t load at all and I have to close WeatherHiDefLiveRadar several times for it to work. I am sure there is a work around for that but if I pay for the service and just accept the flaw than I am throwing away my money. The interface is great, but with the lag and the promise of future cast and some widgets. I think I’ll pass on the subscription.

Wx radar

Great app! But it has idiosyncrasies in some features. If you purchase the Future forecast capability, it’s 99 cents per month well spent. But for odd reasons, occasionally when you tap Future, WeatherHiDefLiveRadar gives you a No Thanks option or a 99 cents option—as though you never signed up for the Future forecast. Even more weird, when you select the payment option, it tells you that your subscription is active & next payment will auto-occur on xx date. So why the heck doesn’t it work???🤨

Update! These folks actually review reviews—and offered several suggestions to fix this issue. Now the Future forecast works great 👍🏼!

Best and most accurate weather radar app

I’ve been using WeatherHiDefLiveRadar for years and it’s always provided me with up to date radar and weather maps with information that helped me daily as I’ve worked on the beaches and on the water directly in the elements for many years now . As we all know the weather forecasts are only right half the time so when properly read these radars and maps with the different overlays can really help you see what’s happening in your area for your self in real time . I’ve been using it for 7 years and still haven’t found an app I like better for the weather maps .

Severe weather is very important to watch and track. I have searched high and low for a free app that allows you to not only see warnings and movement along with seeing things like lightning and wind patterns without being charged.
It is amazing these days companies want to charge you to give you information that might save a life.
After using WeatherHiDefLiveRadar seeing how powerful it is. And not saying give us your money to track severe weather. I have decided to go premium for the other options available.
Huge thanks to the developers for offering people a possible life saving weather app for free. I also love how WeatherHiDefLiveRadar shows the tracking as you watch past and future movement of the storms, I watch lightning and wind and seeing those changes gives me the best I have seen yet.

Again to the developers huge thanks for this powerful app and please keep it they way it is for free for those that can’t afford to pay. It could save lives.

Disappointed

Some years ago I paid paid for a lifetime membership which would entitle me to all the premium features. Now they want me to pay and additional $40 a year for the same features, with only a slight upgrade. I just hate it when people and companies don’t honor their commitments. It’s like purchasing a new car for cash and finding out years later that you have to pay more each year to continue using the AC and head lights, but they’ll throw in some new floor mats to sweeten the deal!

I use WeatherHiDefLiveRadar strictly for the radar, which is clear and accurate. However, I’m finding that other full service weather apps now have radar that is just as good. The weather forecasts and associated data are rarely accurate, so I stick to the radar map.

Used to be a five star app.

Must change the auto-center feature

I gave a negative review a while back because the auto-center feature when tapping the location button was so annoying. The developer response helped me understand how to move it around once I select my location.

However, after months more use it’s hard to describe how annoying it is that the location button doesn’t default to simply showing my current location on the map. Instead, it zooms in much too far and centers on my location. Then I have to tap it again, and rather than reverting to my previous view,8 have to re-center it to the desired location and zoom level. This happens. Every. Single. Time. I. Open. The. App.

PLEASE change this default setting. Thank you!

Newest update is great

I’ve been using WeatherHiDefLiveRadar for a number of years. A previous update totally destroyed its functionality by taking forever to update the data. As a consequence, I pretty much stopped using it and instead started using another app that loaded much faster but it didn’t have the feature set of this one.

A couple of months ago, I decided to launch WeatherHiDefLiveRadar again and to my delight it loaded almost instantly. I can now swipe to different locations and at different zoom levels and it loads the data very quickly. Thank you!

I now default to WeatherHiDefLiveRadar for weather images. Another feature I always liked with WeatherHiDefLiveRadar is it’s ability to zoom almost infinitely anywhere in the world. It’s cool to view streets in different parts of the world.

You won’t be disappointed with WeatherHiDefLiveRadar. It has a lot of features such as selecting layers, thus letting you see different weather conditions.

Radar image disappears

II like WeatherHiDefLiveRadar but I ALWAYS to to restart my phone to get a radar image. I have 2 iPhones and it’s the same problem on both. I restart the phone, get a current radar image, come back 30 minutes... 1 hour later... no radar returns showing up anywhere... restart the phone... I have a radar return to look at again. The map is there there just no radar image. It would also be great if it would quit automatically zooming into my immediate section of my County every time I ask it to show my location. I want to see what’s coming from surrounding areas. It automatically zooms in and I have to constantly zoom back out again. Very annoying.

By

* Radar imagery needs improvement *

My radar imagery is no longer colorful or as sharp as it used to be in previous versions, why? And when you use the SATELLITE view it’s background is much too dark to easily see. (I do know how to change the layer transparency and this has nothing to do with what I’m talking about.)
Overall, I think it’s a great radar app and would rate it 5 stars except it’s newer versions are poorer than its old. You should improve, not say technology has changed and we’re doing our best! Who wants to pay for such when there are many free weather apps that are able to keep up to date. I do still enjoy using this one since I’m already familiar with it.

Loved the older version

I like it except for the fact : every time they do a updated..it gets a little more simplistic for example: when I first downloaded WeatherHiDefLiveRadar able to login in and on WeatherHiDefLiveRadar post photos of weather for my location💕 now that’s not isn’t available anymore. There was also graphs that showed you the cloud depth to see how far the clouds reached up in the atmosphere and show you kind of lightning whether it was positive or negative.I’m a huge whether!!! WeatherHiDefLiveRadar keeps getting dumber and dumber!!!! I might try noaa app (the United States weather advisory) its the same app used by most meteorologist but you have to pay the 4.99 too the owner of WeatherHiDefLiveRadar: Go back to what you it was like a year and a half ago ....that’s what people would pay for!

Extremely Handy App

We use WeatherHiDefLiveRadar often when planning our outdoor events. Several years ago, we were traveling and there were heavy storms ahead. On Hi Def, I could see two large storms with a narrow gap between them. We could see the same thing in the sky and the accuracy was amazing. We slowed down a bit to let one storm move on and then sped up as the gap appeared and made our way without getting into any rain before the second storm arrived.

Racketeering !!!

I paid for this application! I was forced to update it because the forecast stopped working suddenly. Now they switched the terms on me and want to extort more money out of me by forcing me into a subscription!! This is not how you do business. If you want to implement a subscription model, do it with new customers that agreed to your plan from the beginning, changing the terms on customers that supported you from the start with an agreed upon deal is just plain dishonest if not illegal. Please do not bother telling me to click on the “restore” option during the initial window because it just doesn’t work at all. I want to uninstall this application on the grounds of dishonesty on your part and I want you to reimburse my money ASAP!!!

Latest update + response to developer’s response.

Everything new in the latest update is great...EXCEPT the auto-zoom when tapping the location arrow. This, on its own, absolutely ruins all the improvements. Because it’s the first thing that it used. So, now...the second thing you’re forced to do is...zoom back out. It’s just pointless.
- Just got a response from the developer, explaining the intention of the 3-tap location function. Yes, you explained it well. However, the second tap only zooms out to show the area of maybe a small county only. This is the problem. That is completely useless. It’s a waste of the function. If you’re gonna apply this function, it should zoom out, far enough to show the entire state, minimum. More preferably...a region of states.

App is going downhill

Like other long-time users, I paid for WeatherHiDefLiveRadar for the great high resolution radar images. Now WeatherHiDefLiveRadar is increasingly annoying to use.

Each time I open WeatherHiDefLiveRadar , I get a big pop up asking me to subscribe for a monthly fee.

The historical slider keeps getting worse. It was at its best when you could slowly move a few frames forward and backward with your finger. Now the slider is on top. Even on my iPad, this means my hand is *covering the screen* when I move the slider. Also, 2/3 of the slider is dedicated to the paywalled forecast.

If you activate the blue GPS dot, the screen will automatically recenter. This is fine initially, but not after zooming out and panning!

Look, I know developers incur maintenance costs as IOS changes. Offer the users some upgrades for a one-time fee. But, people like me are not going to do a perpetual subscription so long as good weather websites exist. Sorry, that’s the truth. I would consider paying $10 or $20 one-time for some upgrades.

Please fix the slider, it is terrible!

Dissatisfied is an understatement

I’ve had WeatherHiDefLiveRadar for some years now, I’d eventually been forced to update it, which I was hesitant to do due to reviews of how the quality has declined since the version I was on. Not only that, upon updating it there were new terms. They require monthly or yearly payments to use an app which I ALREADY PAID FOR! This is blasphemy. Downright wrong. When I paid for WeatherHiDefLiveRadar I was told I’d have access to it, it cannot be legal to eventually just say I have to pay more money to use what I already had access to. I suppose I’ll have to uninstall and find something else. It was a good app, until the developers got greedy. (Not to mention slowly removing good features to pander to the simple minded.)

Another Repurchase 🙄

I like the features. That’s why I bought RADARCAST (no longer in App Store). I understand business circumstances change and you have to make trade offs however you failed to tell your customer. My RadarCast app just began intermittently failing to show radar. Over the last month the supporting services clicked off and I was left wondering why my once reliable product stopped working. 🙄🙄🙄 communication. That’s all I’m asking for. Yes, RadarCast is related to NOAA weather radar but it might have been a M&A ago.

Weather event radar

With this weather system, weather radar can now give two sources of weather events coming to my area. I can change my plans instantly, or plan on making a change in a couple of hours or minutes.

If you have a business and it requires you to have a Weather stable environment. This is what you Need in order to be able to make a decision that cost money. And put you in a safer place if need be.

Good radar app

The only reason I bought WeatherHiDefLiveRadar was that I wanted to quickly look at precipitation/clouds covering and see where it was moving. It used to be perfect in his regard - I could use the little slider at the bottom to move time forth and back and get the idea very quickly. With the new version the slider is gone and it is only possible to start plying the time loop automatically. I miss the slider a lot!

On my iPhone 7 Plus WeatherHiDefLiveRadar itself seems to be working reasonably fast. I like the new layer settings - it's much nicer than it used to be. Plus, I like that now it is possible to select the combination of precipitation and clouds! As far as I remember, you could have one or the other before. However, this combination has a problem with animation - when I hit the play button it takes the whole loop to show the clouds/precipitation that move. The other layers work fine in this regard so it is only this combination that has the problem.

Weather app

I love WeatherHiDefLiveRadar , it gives great weather forecasts, etc, as I live where there’s tornadoes.
The only thing I’m not happy with, is that I bought the better app, and have three iPads. I can only use it one one of them, however, it would be nice if that app ran on all three. It says I need to purchase it again for the other two iPads. 😞.
I pay a monthly fee for the upgraded version, but I won’t for the other two.
Nice app tho.

Paid for future weather but it never loads

Got WeatherHiDefLiveRadar because I work outside and the basic weather channel app wasn’t cutting it. I’ve heard good things from a friend who uses WeatherHiDefLiveRadar and decided to give it a try. I paid for the monthly service of future radar but it never works properly. The past radar works fine but when I switch to future everything disappears and it says it’s clear for about two hours before everything pops back up again I gave them my dollar and tried it for a month. I would be disappointed if I had paid more, but I guess it’s back to the weather channel for me

Awful

Already purchased WeatherHiDefLiveRadar once. It was great. Now a bunch of features were removed and they're looking for more money to bring them back. Not happening.

Edit 7/3/18

Came back to see how WeatherHiDefLiveRadar was doing. It’s still awful. Also found out they were doing so bad on the reviews since the rebuild they actually had to restore all the reviews from the golden age of WeatherHiDefLiveRadar to make it appear good. About 300 reviews averaging 1.3 stars in a year to 8,000+ at 4.6 in less than a month. Absolutely pathetic. I would give WeatherHiDefLiveRadar -5 stars if I could. Bait and switch. Deception. Zero functionally. Too bad Apple can’t just delete WeatherHiDefLiveRadar from WeatherHiDefLiveRadar Store. It’s a flaming dumpster fire.

No frills, precise radar

Great, simple app. I love WeatherHiDefLiveRadar mostly because it doesn’t try to be too much. Other radar apps either lack precision or pummel you with features and updates that only the developer thinks are good. Sure, there are some basics missing with this one, but as far as radars go, this is one of the best. And when we had some severe weather recently, this thing was spot on.

Has potential to be what the old app was

The pre-2018 weathersphere radar app was my absolute favorite. This was is actually a decent replica of that one. Making the following updates would push it over the top;

-Customization: Add back in the ability to slow down/speed up the loop, and add in custom icon locations.

-Future weather: They have this option on this version, but it’s not the same as it was previously. Previously the past radar would seamlessly integrate with the future radar to create a smooth transition. The current setup is disjointed and stutters. It also does not connect with the past radar. This is my biggest complaint.

-Rain notifications: Please bring them back!

-General map smoothness

-Money: I’d pay a flat 5-10 bucks for a remaster of the pre-2018 app. But this nickel and dime stuff is not great. Please provide an option for a one time payment of features

WeatherSphere, please make these changes!

Very disrespectful to paying customer

Haven’t used this in awhile since migrating to a new phone and paid for all the features which wasn’t cheap, however after installing this program WeatherHiDefLiveRadar maker stole money by converting WeatherHiDefLiveRadar that was (purchased) into a subscription which removed all of the purchased features I paid for in WeatherHiDefLiveRadar including their other radar app Radar US. I don’t do business with con artists and will be contacting Apple for a full refund of both purchases. My advice to you new people is to not do business with these app developers who are ripping paying customers off with this subscription scam.

By

Pretty good radar

While I think that this a pretty good app it used to be better. In the years before they wanted you to pay for a subscription WeatherHiDefLiveRadar was my go to for the weather when I was working in the field. Since they “upgraded” to offering a paid subscription, WeatherHiDefLiveRadar is now mediocre. It has a tendency to get “stuck” while loading the radar and will only show where storms were rather than where they are heading.

By

Not what it used to be.

I understand the old weather provider expiring and all but it seems like a slight to us who paid for the pro version to not receive the newer app for free. I remember the old app seemed to have better functionality and more layers. This new version seems dumbed down, and it doesn’t look like I’m the only one to think that.

I also find it odd that NOAA, a government agency is charging so much for an app, in addition to a monthly fee. So not only are my tax dollars paying for this information to be created but I’m then charged a monthly fee to see said information. Very odd.

By

Pretty good

One of my favorite weather apps, except for two things: 1) an update changed the way that the forecast maps move - now it only shows the previous hour or so of radar instead of the option to change the frame rate and show the previous 4-5 hours. I like being able to see the movement of storm systems over time. 2) it’s been charging me $1/month for who knows how long without telling me it was doing that.

My Favorite Radar App

I have used WeatherHiDefLiveRadar for many years in America and Europe and it is by far my favorite radar app. It is essential when planning outdoor activities or traveling when weather could have an impact. It’s fast and has an assortment of layer functions beyond storm tracking like temperature, snow cover, windspeed and others. Works well on iPhone, iPad mini, and regular iPad.

By

This used to be a great app

I am a paid subscriber, and this used to be my go-to radar app. But with the latest update, I have found the radar hard to read, especially when it is layered with different warnings and watches, which is the whole point of WeatherHiDefLiveRadar . For example, you cannot turn off a “tornado watch” alert on the radar without also losing the access to see a “tornado warning” or other storm alerts. So the map just becomes a blur of color and you can’t easily click to see where a storm is going etc

By

Great

Love it and the high contrast in bright colors of WeatherHiDefLiveRadar itself make it easy to find and I am trying to get my mom to put it on her phone which is different from mine ....anyway love it love it. So great I can push and see the speed and movement of upcoming storms. I live on the south east END of Lake Michigan.... We get tons of Lake effect snow and you name it ....squalls,etc.... that come off of the lake ...fantastic

By

Not what it used to be

WeatherHiDefLiveRadar used to be amazing, and as a paying customer I feel I’ve been done a disservice with updates that have removed functionality and ease of use that previously made WeatherHiDefLiveRadar great. No longer does it have the very smooth animation and ease of use that one would expect when looking at the current user interface. Where is the option to change how far back in the past to draw data for animation?

It’s truly a disappointment to see that WeatherHiDefLiveRadar has become a facade to sell subscriptions (eg for “future” radar projections).
