Most used app on my phone

Ever since my hardware started acting screwy, I decided to give some alternatives a try. I’ve only ever mixed and recorded analog... 1200s, CDJs with actual CDs, mixer into the AUX of a stereo, cassette recordings... I’ve never used software before. I wouldn’t even know how to connect my laptop to my mixer. Yeah I know... ridiculous, right? But if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Well... it broke. So I decided to give some of the DJ apps a try.
And I gotta say... most of the ones I tired were pretty terrible. Hot garbage, if I’m being honest. They had interesting qualities but wasn’t quite “there”. And the recordings sounded worse than my cassette recordings, hiss and all. This was the last app I tried. And I fell in love. So much so, I actually pay for it... and if you knew me... you’ll know I never spend money on apps. Only reason this is 4 stars instead of 5, is because djay drains my battery pretty quickly. Otherwise it’s be the full 5 stars.
Anyways, hope my review is helpful to someone on the fence about giving it a try. All I’ll say is, this is by far the best app I’ve come across that fulfills what I need in a DJ setup... and more. I’ve tried about 4 other ones, and not only is this smoother and easier to use, the UI is way better looking than the others I tried. Solve that battery draining problem and I’d go as far as it say it’s perfect (for what I need).
Good luck!

Play music off iCloud/ files, ditch iTunes music

I don’t have a computer, just a phone. There aren’t many decent music players for iOS. I make my own music, on my phone, and like to listen to them. I can do that with this player. It makes listening to music really fun. You can play around with effects, record, mix, and has some pretty intuitive features. It did eat my battery pretty fast. Not something that you can use all the time, unless you’re plugged in. I see dj’s as music makers that haven’t really taken that crucial next step into music making. You could call them posers, or noobs. Especially since everyone can afford to make music on their computers and phones/ iPads now. I see if dj apps want to make it in the future now, they’ll need to start seeing themselves as musical instruments. Therefore integrate themselves into AUM/ Audiobus/ audio units/ plug-ins/ effects. Without this, it’s kind of all gimmicky and doesn’t really last/ transitional to say the least. Dj’s are well mostly fake. Ai can do everything they do. Sure they bring the energy and promote music. But to really bring it, is to make music, and step on fan mode.

Bait and switch (updated)

I previously wrote an angry review with one star for djay. I am seriously annoyed with companies switching to a subscription model instead of supporting apps or desktop applications people have already paid for and expected support for. That said, I am updating my review and rating due to the fact that this update is excellent. It’s the best DJ app on iOS. For 4 stars, I implore Algoriddim GmbH to allow for more comprehensive editorial of the beat grid. Bonus points for allowing the user to create new audio files with truncated versions of tracks. Some songs have sliding, evolving, or distinct tempo sections. “Batdance” by Prince is a great example. There’s basically another song embedded in the middle of that track. As a vinyl DJ I understand that skill can overcome these limitations, but as an Apple customer who just bought a powerful new iPad Pro, I want my machine to use all it’s processor power to make my life easier and to free up my brain goo processor for other creative activities (microphone banter, visuals, dance-offs, etc).

For 5 stars, make djay compatible with Audiobus technology (like DJ Pro is/was).

I would also suggest, if they are receptive, ask Ableton if “DJ” can read .ALS files so that all the warp marking labor undertaken by users can be interpreted non-destructively (ie: without rendering a new audio file). Keep up the good work.

Hours on top of hours

I’ve had djay for two months now and no I haven’t been counting but I know I’ve spent somewhere between 75 to 100 hours already in djay alone. I’ve downloaded it on my iPhone my iPad, my MacBook Pro and I’ve installed it on my HP computer using Windows 10. It’s super user-friendly, the setup and navigation is straightforward which allows you to get straight to your purpose and end goal of becoming a pro this app! It’s loaded with features that other platforms that I still use(but not as much now😬) do not have. Personally I have not come across another DJing app that not only meets my expectations but goes above and beyond my expectations, and it doesn’t vary from one device/system to another(iPhone,iPad,Laptop).

I Have Fun Everytime I Open djay!!!

New connection issues make it almost unusable.

As an intermediate DJ, djay does everything I could ask it to do. However, only just a couple days ago, it started being unable to connect to my DDJ-200. I use an iPad as my primary device, and that’s where the problem is. It connects just fine if I use my phone, which I find quite annoying and inconvenient. Bluetooth is Bluetooth so what’s the problem? I’ve tried everything to remedy the issue. Rebooting my iPad several times, deleting djay and reinstalling it, unplugging and plugging back in the DDJ-200, everything, all to no avail. I’ve reached out for help by several methods and have gotten zero response. Algoriddim, please hire an intern or something to manage your Instagram page and to provide responses to questions. Adding insult to injury, I’m a this app Pro subscriber. Quite inconvenient to have paid for a year subscription only to not even be able to use it how I want. Oh and another thing, I migrated to Tidal (annoyed about that too) and the track list doesn’t provide the key of the track for like half of my set list. Just make your app work 100% how it’s supposed to. Other than that, I have no complaints.

Love it!...but it could use a few tweaks

djay is how I listen to music; I barely even use the music app anymore. I like the wide range of effects I can choose from, I like the malleability of the software when it comes to changing tempo and almost everything else. Lastly, I absolutely love how you can see the tempos and keys of songs while you're selecting one in your library and that you can change the pitch or keep it the same, even when you need to tweak the BPM a bit.

However, no great app is without its flaws. First off, there has been a recurring bug even since this app 2 was a thing, where djay would mislabel the artist of quite a few of the songs in the music library. For example, the song "Astrocat" by an artist called PIXL is labeled by djay under a different artist in my library, for example, "Droptek and Tut Tut Child." Second off, I have a question. this app 2 had a feature where you could record your own samples and make your own sample packs. It doesn't say whether this comes with pro features or not. Is that a pro features thing or was it removed entirely?
Again, I love djay , but just a few bugs may need to be fixed.

Best Dj app you can Download 1major flaw

djay is incredible taking Djing into the future all the features are next level. Being able to create stems on the fly is just mind boggling crazy good. But what is the point if you can play any of the music from the music app you either need tidal or deezer if you Do you can’t record your mixes. Which I understand using these apps that’s fine. So I load my iPhone & iPad with music I get from BpM supreme and I keep getting The music is DRM protected or not downloaded. And the music I have is Downloaded I keep checking and re download still get that error and can not be played but it works just fine in the desktop this app app. It’s super frustrating the work around I have is using files app but still all my music playlist I can’t use is a frustrating experience. Been supporter since Day 1 literally followed algoriddim since 2012 and I subscribed right away when djay went monthly. And I support paying $5 because the Game changing features you guys offer but if I can not play any music on the music app that’s in my phone what’s the point l!! it’s Ike having a tricked out Ferrari that can’t leave the garage.

Started Out Great

I have been a long time supporter of djay, even after they switched to a subscription model. However, the software is becoming so crowded with features it is hard to use djay to dj from track to track and quickly find what I need to “work” my mixes. In addition, the more they add the further this app loses sight of the basics. A great example is the massive lag between the beat grid displayed and the sound played - the track marker for the beat being played does not line up with the sound coming out of the iPad. I would expect this perhaps on older hardware but not on a new 12.9” iPad Pro with 1TB of storage. I implore you to resolve this issue at it makes mixing live impossible for accuracy and forces the use of the sync button which sometimes takes a beat or two to align the tracks. Additionally it would be nice to see an option to display or hide features and components to regain valuable real estate. Finally, please please add a feature to number the tracks in a playlist as this is extremely useful for setting up shows, returning to a visible order after sorting or editing, etc. Keep up the good work, but please fix the basics before shooting for the moon.

Buggy software

I have yet to get a response for well over a month and several emails to support. Lon go story short, this software is buggy. When I match two beets at the same tempo, the loop starts to slip. I am then forced to used sync, sync then has trouble staying at the tempo as well and starts to scew the sound. This has been going on for well over a month. These are songs I own, not streaming. It made my first set since the pandemic very challenging and you can here the screwing in the recording. Does anyone work for tris company? Can anyone give a response? I’ve sent video, photo, and audio proof. Either that or this is such an issue they haven’t been able to find time to respond. I’ve reinstalled hardware, restarted my devices, tried on a laptop instead of a tablet. All the same issue. Bought my Mixon 4 specifically for this program. Does try the same in my DDJ 200, same with no controller attached. Therefore this is a development issue.

This software is supreme otherwise. If they can’t fix that issue it’s basically impossible to do a set. I would hold off purchasing this software until the developer fixes the issue.

Slightly over-reaching

It is an undeniably good time spinning records from the bottomless crate of music-streaming services. Makes nearly any DJ mix you could imagine possible. This makes djay perfect for DJing your living room after parties, free-styling a set from Tidal suggestions, or playing DJ Request on the ones and twos. This is a really fun app and a great way for people to dip their toes in the DJing pool before diving into a multi-thousand-dollar investment on CDJs and a Mixer.

The audio quality is passable for most parties, but it’s not professional-grade, which is fine. My only real complaint is that djay will crash eventually if I video-DJ over AirPlay to an AppleTV. Takes about 15 - 20 minutes, and I’m guessing this is a memory leak. But whatever, it’s still a good party trick and I still would recommend checking djay out if you’re curious. You probably won’t regret it. It’s really a lot of fun and can help hone in a DJs set of skills, allowing for many opportunities to expo and/or practice wherever. Keep it up, guys; and maybe see about that memory leak?

I used to love this app...

I was running a version from mid-2019 up until yesterday. I had an app error with another app which accidentally caused my old version to update to this TRASH new version. I’m no DJ, I just used djay for EQ and volume adjustments with my iTunes library, I even bought one of the old loop packs WAY back when during the this app / this app 2 days. My issue is, now I’m limited by this “play duration” trash on the new version, which has COMPLETELY destroyed the experience for me. Now I’m trapped behind a paywall for “unlimited plays” that I just lost access to for simple EQ, volume adjustments and speed control? The LEAST you guys can do would be to have a one time PAID upgrade to return my features that I used without the subscription. I would GLADLY pay 10-25 dollars one time simply to have djay back to the original way I used it. If you guys do that, my opinion will easily jump up to a 5, and odds are I’ll even buy individual loop packs if those are available. But at this moment? I’m GREATLY disappointed

We asked for more features on Djay Pro, and this is what we get.

If anyone used the previous generation of the this app series and was in fact following along with the forum, you should be aware that they were willing to add more ideas such as ableton link to this app pro. However, the devs showed up once to support it never since. Well, Now we know why. They weren’t talking on the forum because they knew that they wanted to get more money off features that were requested.

It’s important to note that the this app series has been attractive because it was a one-time payment app that beat all other one-time payment djing app. This, however, defeats the trust of the this app series. Even with the 83% off for this app pro users, it’s still outrageous that you pay $9.99 for a year worth of this app, when there are better alternatives at that price range such as the soda.

For those of you trying out the this app app for the first time, don’t bother with this one even if it seems very attractive. Get alternatives or the older this app pro. They are only missing a few things and often times they’re cheaper than $9.99 for a one-time payment.

It’s a sad day if you’re visually impaired

It’s a sad day for visually impaired people who DJ with djay! djay does not allow you to route the voiceover between headphones or speakers anymore like it was accessible and I was 13. With a news update of iOS 14 this is no longer the case and it is not accessible to people who are visually impaired the way that he used to be! Is very disappointing because I have use djay for many years and I have spent thousands of dollars on different controllers and now it’s send me that I must leave! Sure you can buy one of their controllers and things might work, But if you buy a more professional or expensive controller Sally the voiceover accessibility is not the same and cannot be roots it through just the headphones anymore! The voiceover is heard through the speakers as well as the headphones making the DJ experience for visually impaired people impossible to enjoy with everyone else! Goodbye DJ a Y until this issue was fixed and as I said I have canceled my subscription and if you are visually impaired you should cancel yours to

Missing important Feature Tho

I really like djay , however I can’t believe you can’t save a session for later recall! you can bring up latest songs sure but you have to reset all your fx, beat loops , neural settings etc. PLEASE tell us you are working on this. You do this and your app will be the best DJ app out there by far.

Ok I see that the loop sections you make get saved with the song. That is outstanding!

Overall , this is probably one of the top 10 musical apps out there, I have found so many uses for it. Neural engine is incredible! I’ll load a song , create a loop section , trigger it after a bit...remove the vocals fade into it and I will start jamming along the song with my keys or guitar on a live session...people go bananas!

Blows My Mind Coming From Traktor on Mac

My setup is very atypical - I have four separate MIDI devices, which send their input to Traktor Pro 2, and receive output from Ableton Live. The two softwares are kept in sync via Ableton Link so that I could run lightshows on a Launchpad, Launchkey, and MIDI Fighter 3D. Color me surprised when I find that I can replicate the exact same setup between NanoStudio 2 and this app - but not only that, this app genuinely surpasses Traktor in every possible way. Usability, stability, featureset, it’s all absolutely excellent - even to the point of supporting basically any kind of input or output, audio and midi, and even smart keyboard shortcuts. This software goes above and beyond to provide a serious contender in professional DJ software. Absolutely do recommend.

What a mess...

I’ve been using DJ Pro for years and love it. Unnecessarily complex doesn’t begin to describe this hot mess of an “update.” I am constantly hitting menu buttons to change views back and forth just to do some basic mixing. In 4 deck view, you cannot control the basic volume of the track and the FX controls at the same time because they are on two completely different pages! ???!!!??? The library (as others have mentioned) is now so small and complex that it’s difficult to find the next song quickly so you can get back to mixing. This is not an update, it’s a downgrade and a waste of money. I paid my $9.99 to try it out. Learn from my mistake, save your money and buy a real DJ program, because djay is not it. And seriously, what is the subscription for and where is the value for the monthly fee? The loops? We have to punch through so many menu options just to get there (and back) that the song will be over before we can even add a basic kick or snare to our mix. What a waste.

By

In my opinion is worth the subscription

When I first found out that the update would go from being free to a monthly or yearly subscription, I was a little upset. But when I found out that it allowed streaming access through SoundCloud I was more than ecstatic. I initially had some issues running it because the phone that I had was couldn’t get the latest iOS update. Once I got a new phone I had no more issues with djay crashing. My only criticism is that there is no longer the option to have the waveforms horizontal while running 4 channels. Other than that every thing is still very much the same from when I first downloaded it 5 years ago with a whole lot more.

Simply The Best

I am an old school consumer that had refused to even consider upgrading to the latest & greatest version, and this was due solely to the “subscription” aspect of the transaction. Then our friends at Algoriddim made an offer to us holdovers that was difficult to refuse, and for that I thank you!!! This version is just magnificent!! The UI is so much sleeker, and with everything so readily accessible that it is clearly obvious that these developers listen to the feedback from users... or that they must be users themselves to know just how to improve this this app APP to the point of near perfection. I am currently not employed so I have not subscribed, but I may seriously have to choose between eating and enjoying my DJing pleasures very soon. Thank you Algoriddim!!

Been pretty good so far

I have been using this program for over 5 years now. It works ok most of the time. Once in awhile it just closes up and i have to relaunch, and start my mixes all over again. Not paying for that.
I had the free version that was available then and still use it. I won’t pay to use it on tiny phone and ipad screens as the controls are just not easy on small screens. If they remove the version I currently use, i will definitely uninstall at that point. There’s just simply no feature that would get me to pay a monthly fee. Just a way for these companies to get filthy rich. Look i would maybe consider a one time fee, but subscription to play my own music that ive already paid a fortune for? Will NEVER happen.

The visuals are not working.

I have owned every version of the this app app. I also own the Vjay app. The previous versions have been great. This new version has been a big disappointment. Too many bugs. The visuals do not work properly, there is a huge pause when trying to pull up my music lists of songs and when playing the loops the visuals pause. My music videos also pause. I own 2 iPad Pro’s and both are having the same issues.

It appears this new version is pulling visuals from my previous this app Pro app on one deck and the other deck will not play visuals at all. The visual issue started with the recent update. The pausing problem has been an issue from the beginning. At this point it is not reliable enough for me to renew my subscription.

Update: I remain a huge fan of djay. I continue to use it as my main source when DJing events. The visual bugs have been fixed. I look forward to any and all improvements and continued additions to djay .

A great blind accessible djay app!!!

djay is voiceover accessible app on IOS and OS X. It has great keyboard commands to control everything. I am not enjoying it as much as the non-subscription based this app pro 2 because there are so many great features that simple features such as the queue playlist is not that easy to access when using the VoiceOver screen reader available on I devices and Mac. But that being said, I still use it every day and find that it is easy to get carried away throwing on on song after song mixing and cutting up dope beats for hours. Thank you Algoriddim!

COME ON WHAT IS THIS SUBSCRIPTION CRAP!!!

Update:
Well I finally heard back on my first review — 9 months later... Personally that tells me that not only has the product changed to an unreasonable subscription model but the developers don’t even care enough to read the feedback regularly... Probably trying to figure out where they went wrong - no one buying your product? Maybe because it’s a subscription based product.

Original Review:
One more product I am dumping because the company decided that making money was more important than servicing their products. I have the previous version (which I will no longer upgrade for fear that it will get broken and then lose support) and it is fine.

All these companies think that they can charge monthly money for apps and it is just garbage - people are not made of money and don’t want to pay forever for an app... I say either go back to a purchase price or lose more customer... What’s better $40 you get and it is yours, or $60 per year that I’m not giving you and a lot of other people won’t either...

Seems like everyone is trying to nickel and dime the consumers with their “in-app purchases” or “subscriptions”... At least with IAP I get to choose whether things are worth it to me - and I can buy them and then THEY ARE MINE... I’m done... Not buying these subscription apps ever again...

It’s a great app! But the update—

After the recent update, a feature I often used was the ability to change the song’s pitch no matter what speed it was playing at. It’d be nice to have that back. Right now you can only play the song at its original pitch regardless of speed or at the pitch of the set speed....like, I can’t play the song at a higher bpm and have it at a lower pitch than the original, I miss doing jams like that.
Actually that was the only reason why I used djay over eDjing for a while.
Buts that feature is gone now....hmmm I paid for the premium version hoping the feature would be there but was disappointed to find that it wasn’t. Eh, I don’t really see a reason to use an app that doesn’t have different features from the competition in general.

Subscription: no way!

Been buying this from since it was first released.
Downloaded this one to to enable the review:
Will be deleted right away.

Subscription pricing is a rip off: people want to get paid in perpetuity for no work.

You sell a product I like, I pay for it; you negligently ship it with bugs, you fix them for free.
You add significant new features, you make a new major version, and I decide if it’s worth buying, or if what I have satisfies my needs.
That’s honest business.

I wish upon all companies who do subscription pricing, that others do the same onto them: office chairs that charge each time you sit down, doors that charge each time you open or close then, your bed is on renewal, and if your credit card number changes, and you forget to update them: all you find are spikes when you try to sleep. Your blue couch in the living room is unexpectedly suddenly “upgraded” to a neon orange one, and half your things are suddenly on the floor because it was decided that the “cabinets” feature isn’t used by enough people, and thus was simply removed.

Laziness! You want your users to pay you for the product, the fixing of the bugs, the development of changes to the product (that they may not even want or like), and even for the downtime.

Price Factor

I’ve always loved this app, not as as a DJ (which I’m not) but as someone who enjoys the opportunity to learn things on his own without having to hire someone else. I’m also creative so I like to try different things.

The push to make subscriptions a normative way to use apps has caused me to eliminate 80% of the apps I use. Why? Money. I’m not rich. I have compared paid models to subscription models and have found the increase in price to be extremely excessive to say the lease. Pricing models are not inevitable; they are invented by business leaders who want make money. I get it.

If I used apps for business purposes, I would understand the value of subscriptions but I use them mostly as opportunities to learn new things and have fun.

Unfortunately I won’t be learning or having as much fun as I used to.

I remember many years ago when you could download this app for free for the desktop. Even then, I found this app to be one of a kind. I think the history I have with using apps informs my view of things.

I think you are one the best developers out there. I wish you continued success. Unfortunately I will be observing from the sidelines.

I like the direction, but it seems unfinished...

I've been looking forward to being able to create playlists from multiple sources, so I'm happy about that. I also like the style of the new interface. There are some things missing that make it impossible for me to convert to djay just yet.

1. Automix AI. Fine idea. I desperately need to be able to turn it off though! It ruins the listening experience, starting songs too far into them and ending songs too early.

2. Importing my own music files directly into the this app app. While I was able to import and okay a file, and save it to a playlist, when I reopened djay later the sing was greyed out and not available to play.

3. In this app pro I was able to use Automix and the visualizer simultaneously. Now, if I start music in Automix and switch to the visualizer, Automix is cancelled. I'd like to be able to play Automix music with the visualizer playing because 1. I like it, and 2. because it's the only way to keep the screen from going to sleep without having to go into settings and manually turn off the screen sleep timer.

Not worth the upgrade

I have used the this app apps for many years from this app 2to this app Pro. The newest app from this app is very confusing. The loading of a playlist for a party is more confusing than the previous apps. Also while you have a playlist playing and a friend want you to load a song in the middle of the playlist to play next it does not allow you to do that or I have not found a function for it. Overall it has more features, which is always good but unfortunately now requires you to pay a weekly subscription for it. I think this is very very inconvenient compared to this app Pro where it’s a one time payment for djay . I will now be deleting the newest app from this app and reverting back to the old this app Pro. Very disappointed

By

Was a great app before this terrible update.

Let me first say, I loved the this app Pro app before it became this.

I had been using this app Pro, the iPad Version, for years. I paid 9.99 when it first came out, and I fell in love. Fast forward to years later, the this app Pro app I paid for had been replaced with this free “this app” app. I updated, only to find that my favorite app had been replaced with this trash, add-filled mess of an app. Plus, I originally paid for this app, and now all that got me was a trial of their subscription based service. Why this app, WHY! You ruined a great paid, professional app with a free, but subscription based app that is amateur and bad, with zero regard for the people who willingly paid the 10-30 dollars on the pro version. If they could bring back the old Pro version and leave djay as the free version, that would be fantastic.

DJ_SMB1

Hi there , I’m a beginner DJ just started about 3 mouths ago and I’m enjoying this app pro.. I love the simplicity of the Interface and everything is at your fingertips.. For me the looper and samples are really nice because I can make my own track/beat to use as a transition to a new song.. if I have any complaint about it , at times my looper sounds won’t work. The looper section will pull up but it won’t be available for me to use from time to time.. if I can get some advice about fixing it now we cool? But everything else is a-o-k with me!

Subscription is not the way.

Although djay looks really really good design wise, I don’t think Subscribing to get all the features we had in this app 2 and this app pro. We should just be able to to pay one simple fee for everything. Not pay monthly. For the people who owned this app 2 and this app pro with all the features we paid for they should transfer over to djay so at least we can get what we all ready had. The fact that we have to subscribe for the features we already paid for in this app 2 and this app pro is stealing from us because we paid only ounce for those features and now we have to pay monthly. I don’t think I’m going to switch use djay for a while. Probably never because I want to have the features I use on a daily without having to pay for them monthly.
