Garbage

Hard drive files are unaccessible due to endless indexing. Meanwhile VLC player can access them immediately. Garbage. App crashes frequently when playing feature length film stored on iPad. Meanwhile vlc player plays the same movies flawlessly. Garbage. Frequent popup says not connected to network when playing music stored on iPad preventing navigation until you acknowledge the alert. Garbage. Random music player only plays the first couple hundred songs on list unless you scroll all the way to the bottom of the list. Have fun scrolling through thousands of songs every time you want to listen so you’ll be able to hear the whole collection. Garbage. When uploading photos to hard drive SeagateMedia only allows 50 files at at time. Try transferring 500 photos. Get ready for a long, broken up project that should be simple. Garbage. If you want to find what else doesn’t work, get SeagateMedia!

Horrible company

I had initially bought goflex home from seagate few years ago to set up my NAS. It worked great until last year when they decided to stop supporting remote access feature. Why would anyone setup NAS if not for remote access. My IOS app doesn’t work anymore.

So I decided to buy another Seagate product that I could connect to remotely. Only to learn recently that they are stopping that support as well.

What a lousy company that pushes its products only to stop supporting them few years later. It’s a nice way to force user to keep buying new product which would be obsolete soon. I wonder if this is even legal.

Became useless

Once decent, but now I can longer back up my phone unless I’m on my home network. I used to back up pics when on vacation but this no longer available. Nor can I back up on my home network, I get error message saying I need 1 gb of free space on my phone ( I have 15). The url connection says is broken, but yet I can connect. Don’t get this hard drive or app. this app support is standard boiler plate foreign country IT help.

Give it 3 stars for now

Downloaded as a companion to my Wireless Plus device yesterday. I can figure out how to navigate with SeagateMedia to get to what I need. Setting up wireless was pretty straight forward through SeagateMedia as well as setting a password (the three stars)... but I really need my kid to be able to the show he wants without needing my help. It would be ideal if the interface offered some more sorting options other than just thumbnail, List, Genre and Year (useless). In Genre there will be a "Kid" section if your metadata has the file set that way but there are literally hundreds of thumbs to scroll through to get to what you want. It would be nice to have a sorting by "show". Instead of looking through hundreds of thumbs to get to Spongebob only to then have sort through dozens of Spongebobs to find the actual show you want. Oh ... and the refresh on the cover art of each show is really slow to refresh if it does it at all. Much of the time the show you are looking for has the default graphic shown with it. Hopefully the show title is not too long so you can actually tell what file is.

Last update made the app useless

Love SeagateMedia until the last update. Now I cannot browse any content. I even tried to update the personal cloud firmware, but it kept on telling me update failed. Open a support ticket and told me that there is no way to update manually or help me with the firmware update. Going to have to find the competitor drive!

SeagateMedia very bad

Absolutely useless with remote connectivity only WiFi is possible
Very unstable, after loading media files taking a week to rebuild database and can’t be used.
Going to switch to WD cloud

No Longer supports iPhone backup :(

1-star because deafest made a conscious decision to discontinue a useful software feature (iPhone back up and restore directly between phone and backup drive unit)

won’t connect

unable to connect either to the iPad or the iPhone, please fix it...

Cellular connection crash

Newer version have more problems. It crashes every time if I try to connect it thru cellular connection.

Seagate Wireless Plus = AWESOME!

Top notch built quality. To be able to stream all of my media files from this device (1TB) is awesome! No more carrying around my 15" MBP on my trips, and no more limited syncing on my iPad or iPhone! Well, SeagateMedia on the other hand needs a few improvements though, not to mention the lack of a comprehensive setup instructions. BTW, if you have a very large media compilation like me, prepare for a long wait before you can access the drive again, since it will take a while to index all your media files.
UPDATE: Down to 4 Stars! The firmware is still really buggy and slow, and every time I connect it to the power charger it freezes and you really have to reset the unit.
UPDATE2: I finally decided returning the unit to Seagate for replacement, because of the frequent disconnection and freezing issues. Looking forward for the replacement! Still 4 stars, still an awesome product!
UPDATE3: It finally arrived! Everything's working as it should be (the firmware is still buggy though- freezes once in a while). BTW, DO NOT REFORMAT THE DRIVE! If you made this mistake, use NTFS format in Windows and make sure it's set to Master Boot Record (MBR) do a check disk if the unit crashes (which will eventually happen) just to make sure.
CONCLUSION: This is the best wireless back up solution to beat. It's portable, connects to wifi as a hotspot, and does not rely on a router to work. It works but I won't recommend it for now.

Great product, horrible app

I love the seagate go flex satellite. I had no problems getting my media onto the device or accessing the wifi. I simply drag and drop my itunes folder. Then came the interface. It is opening directory after directory to get the data you want. Then you find it doesn't open ePub files which are supported by the ipad They are there, but you can't open them. So your books can't be used. Then you try music. Again you open music folder, artist folder, album folder, and finally select the song. There are no playlist so you have to search out a song, wait for it to end, and then search another song. No shuffle. Cant search new song until one that is playing has ended Music is rendered unusable unless you really want to hear one song. I had no issue with video playback. It streamed perfectly. To get to a video it is again opening folder after folder. There is no apparent organization. There is no album artwork for music or video. Since i dropped in my itunes folder I was hoping it would be organized and used in a similar fashion as it is on my ipad. I was greatly disappointed. It takes away the entire experiencing you are used to having on your iPad and turns it into folder opening, poor organization, and horrible presentation. This is a five star product with a 2 star at best app. I want to like this product so bad, but I can't believe how bad the interface is. I hope seagate updates SeagateMedia so it can be the must have device it should be.

Wow.

I'm so glad I purchased the Wireless Plus. This is so cool! There's obviously very limited space on my iPad and iPhone, and I was looking to replace my old external (it started acting funny so I got scared I'd lose my stuff - still works though, just wanted peace of mind). Anyways, I'm a music freak. My iTunes library is perfect as I went through every single song added the "official" track numbers, album art, and all that good stuff. I also made sure all spelling, grammar, punctuation, and capitalizations were correct. I'm a neat freak so I wanted everything to be 100% uniform when I back it up. I highlighted my entire library in iTunes and dragged it to the external. It was fairly fast (less than 1.5 hour for 65gb). At first it listed only songs in random order. A few mins later, everything was indexed and sorted out! Perfect! Now everything looks great, works well, and sounds great! It did what I had hoped it'd do very quickly. Smooth streaming with no interruptions!

1 concern is that my iPhone connected to it automatically even though I set a password. I was able to play songs with no password approval. Maybe it needed to be reset after I set the password, who knows. I'm going to test this tomorrow to see if the password does work using a Kindle or family member's phone.

Works but security issue.

Me personally; like to secure all my devices, especially hard-drives. After buying the drive, I did a full encryption with password protection on the drive which took a really long time since I got the 2TB. Using the bit locker allowed me to protect the drive when plugging to any PC which would require password to access the drive. On my iPad or iPhone I was able to connect the drive with its wifi. Here is the issue and reason I give this a bad rating. When I tried to use the seagate media app; wouldn't detect the drive at all through SeagateMedia . So I decided to decrypt the entire drive and then the media app was able to detect my drive. Yes I was able to setup the wifi password protection through SeagateMedia from anyone accessing my drive wirelessly. However my drive still can be accessed with usb directly plugged in to any device-since it's not password protected anymore due to decrypting the drive and removing password protection with bit locker. Seagate what's your solution for this??? Personally I think-- a updated is needed with giving users the option to password protect the drive totally even if it's being used via usb and not just offer lock option with wifi only. Main reason I bought this wireless drive was to get extra storage for iPad and use SeagateMedia . Now I gotta watch where I leave my drive since anyone can take it a view the content with usb which is very disappointing.

Disappointing

I was very excited for this product and had very high hopes for it. My intended main use was to provide some extra storage for photos and video (for iPad) with any other use being icing on the cake. What a let down. From the get go........a poorly designed interface that was anything but intuitive and even following directions I quickly realized that this was going to be a lesson in futility and frustration. I mean, who creates an interface that will not even allow you the ability to delete a file without having to hook to a PC physically on a product pumped for its WiFi capability!!!? And even then I read the official instructions and then had to browse the forums for help.......just to delete files/pictures! It is a nice piece of kit. Looks nice, solid and gives an impression of quality, but the software operating system is quite poor. I plan on a reset and one more try....then if no better, a return is in order....reluctantly, because I really liked the idea. For what it costs......it really comes no where close to my SanDisk Wireless Flash Drive........gosh, if I could find a 1 TB microSD I would be happy again! Seagate, if you read these....I really loved its look, it's design idea and its tremendous space..........but really, my 6th grader could have designed a better interface. When you fix it, perhaps i'll look again.

Great idea, large enough to be useful, but the software leaves a bit to be desired

Great idea, large enough to be useful, but the software leaves a bit to be desired. Besides the fact that it locks up constantly, it won't play iTunes music format and several other common media file types, when you hit the home button, or your screen goes to sleep it won't hold your spot in memory when paused (I listen to some audiobooks, and this happens all the time), album artwork is hard to get to work, the auto organizing feature works, but genres, playlists, and some media formats won't even display. It also is hit and miss as a media server for things like ps3 (I have 2 only one works with it), and apple tv can't use it except as a wifi relay. Having said all that, I do think it's great, I love the fact that it can be used as a wireless relay station, and a media server, and still leaves your Bluetooth free. It is very portable and pretty easy to use. The interface looks nice, and the USB 3.0 is pretty fast. I would recommend it definately, but don't forget to convert your library to a useable format before loading. I am looking foreward to software updates! With better software, I would give 5 stars.
