Beware Senior Citizens this game discriminates...

2022-06-19

Expect a low score and problems because of the issues the developers built into this game. Furthermore, the layout of the game is detrimental for senior citizens and the developers scoring process.

The number choosing group is small allowing mistakes when touching and usually the wrong number appears. The developers suggest using their “floating numbers” to assist in choosing the correct number. Does not work since the “floating numbers” are also small allowing for mistakes. A simple solution would be to enlarge the number pad like most other this app games. But they rather blame the player

This issues has an effect on your score and I believe it is the intent of the developers-Brainum- so every player will get a lower score and cause problems and frustration for senior citizens.

How to ruin a wonderful app 101:

2022-07-20

This was hands down my favorite this app app on iOS. The new redesign is awful. Sure it’s pretty to look at, but none of us were playing this app for the graphics in the first place. Why is landscape mode gone? Why can I no longer easily glance down and see what numbers have been completed for the puzzle? Why does everything highlight in the blue color regardless of the color theme selected? Why are the highlighted cells different now? Why did you completely remove the menu screen? Why does removing ads cost $12, that is ludicrous. Sad to say I’m no longer going to bother with Sudoku when there are others that are now just as capable without the awful design flaws this one now has. Worst part is that you literally didn’t need to change anything. You were comfortably sitting at almost 5 stars on Sudoku Store with positive reviews almost across the board. You went and changed it completely for no good reason.

Resets my score if I don’t rate it

2022-08-21

I’ve played this game on and off for years, and I get really excited when I level up. I’ve noticed now that I hit 22, every time I go to level up to 23, it asks me if I want to rate the game. I say, not now, and it says level up! And starts me back over at 22. I’m not sure why this is so upsetting, but I was thinking of purchasing the the game in order to not see ads, and now there’s no way if I won’t continue to level up. I should be around 150,000 points now, but it says 89,000 ish every time it sets me back to the beginning of level 22. It’s enough for me to knock three stars.. otherwise, I probably would have given it 4 stars. Oh and I didn’t rate it this time from it asking, I came to Sudoku Store and found the game. So I’m not sure what to do when it asks me next time. Find a new this app game?

Miss old color scheme - I’m color blind !

2022-09-22

I’m color blind & the old color scheme B4 the last update worked great for me ! I could see the numbers in the different rows & in the 9 different cubes all at once.

Now since the update the columns of numbers & the cubes run together as they don’t pop out to this color blind person anymore.

I contacted customer support & asked if I could have the old color scheme back, they said that that was no longer available.

Customer Support did ask if I had checked out the different options on the new update - & I told them that I had already tried, & non of the option seemed to help.

Then Customer Support asked if I had tried adjusting the color blind settings for my IOS device. I told them that I didn’t know about that setting. I played around with the different options & it seemed to help a little bit, but nothing like the old color scheme B4 the last update.

I’m still having some problems seeing the rows ,columns & cubes.
Because the numbers no longer pop for me -thus it takes me longer to solve the puzzle’s. Still can’t beat my old record times before the last update.

Also I would like to be able to compete with my friends playing the same games - even at the exact same time & I don’t see any settings for competition like that.

Remove ads and Family Sharing is deceptive

2022-10-23

The description for the option to remove ads says that the “purchase is family shareable” - but this is false. I paid the steep $12 to remove ads thinking my icloud family members would be able to play the ads-free version. In Sudoku ’s “contact us” FAQs, they apologize because multiple devices using the SAME APPLE ID have access to no-ads, but that Sudoku is not compatible with Family Sharing. This is deceptive marketing, and the price is really not justifiable for how simple the game is.

The game is ok, it’s standard. Some of the features are cute, the color scheme is pleasant, and the interface is fine. If they were up front about the pay, I might have kept it, but we gotta draw the line somewhere.

Simple, relaxing, easy

2022-11-24

Of all the versions of this app I’ve tried, this one is my favorite. A lot of the others have intrusive noises when you make mistakes or music. Sudoku is very calming, doesn’t show the timer unless you want to see it, and gives you a very gentle red number if you place something wrong (which you can turn off entirely also). I don’t feel badly for making mistakes in Sudoku. I find the game easy to control and even the markups are easy to do. This is also the perfect example of well placed ads in a mobile game. They’re entirely non intrusive, only playing when you start a new game and don’t auto play sound. I don’t mind watching the ads at all. Great version of a classic game! Keep it up!

Update: Recently the style of the game updated and I don’t like it as much. The previous graphics looked better and more relaxing IMO. I wish there was an option to switch it back, like a “classic” or something. One of the things I really liked about this version of this app was that you could always see what numbers were fully discovered, even if you had a tile selected. Now you have to unselect a tile to see which numbers are still in play.

A bit disappointing since this was far and away the best this app app IMO. Now it’s just eh like the rest.

Good functionality, preferred previous version

2022-12-25

I’ve never thought much about how much I like the functionality until I came to write a review and saw so many others who have compared several other apps. I got lucky, this was my first. I have enjoyed far too many hours playing!

However, while aesthetically cool, I do not like the updated version to actually play. I am not sure how to describe it, something about the color schemes (I’ve tried them all) and font color makes me have to strain my eyes and it’s harder to see. The numbers don’t pop, so it takes me 3-4 times longer to play a single game. I much prefer the previous version. I wish there was a way to revert to that version.

Good puzzles, frustrating interface

2023-01-26

The puzzles are good overall, although Hard puzzles can be solved by looking mostly at naked pairs and simple elimination. Expert level puzzles utilized swordfish a lot, at least in the puzzles I played. There are a lot of this app games out there and ultimately for me it comes down to interface. I found myself hitting the wrong number multiple times and the highlighted squares blend so well with the background it makes them difficult to see. Since you are playing against the clock to boost your score, this can be quite frustrating. Undo is a two step process. Finally, there is no way to purchase your way out of seeing the pop up ads, so those are there for you to enjoy forever. The hint system is quite good and educational, truly the best part of Sudoku .

Levels are inconsistent

2023-02-27

My first issue with Sudoku is that the levels are wildly inconsistent. Sometimes the easy ones are harder than the medium ones. Sometimes the medium ones are more like impossible. And I play the “insane” level on my other this app app.

The other issue I have with this game is that once you move on, there’s no way to differentiate the numbers you’ve added from the numbers that were already there. This makes it much harder than my other game, or much harder than a print version would be. Even in an extremely difficult print puzzle you can easily see where you’ve been and if there’s a problem what might need to be changed. Here, everything looks the same. If they’d fix this one issue it would be a much better app.

My second suduko game

2023-03-28

When my favorite suduko game started glitching after 5 years, I downloaded this one because I have, and like, Brainium's Free Cell. This version works well but there are a few things I would change. The colors make it difficult to read. Too many colors in the same color family. Why are they using so many greens? I don't see a reason for highlighting anything but the relevant information. Also, it is hard to distinguish yellow numbers on green. The other thing I would change is that when I am using auto-fill to see all my options, when there is only one autofill number left in a box I want to tap the box and have it automatically put the number in. That is easier than going down and putting the number in.

Would be 5 stars with a few improvements...

2023-04-29

I have tried quite a few this app apps recently, and this is the one I like the best. There are a few things that could be done to really perfect the experience for me:

- Allow me to just buy Sudoku and remove all of the annoying ads.

- There needs to be a way to color the fields different shades to assist with solving puzzles when looking at number chains.

- I want to view the puzzle without anything (cells) highlighted.

- The contrast between the highlighted cells and the numbers is not very good, making the numbers hard to see.

- If a cell has a number in it, it would be nice to have the cell “lock” so that you cannot put a pencil mark in the cell without first deleting the number. (Sometimes, I inadvertently hit a cell that has a number in it, overwriting the cell with a lone pencil mark.)

- I like the hints, but it would be nice if the hints could also provide definitions for the terms for the various identified patterns.

- The gradations between the difficulty levels could use some help... I can solve all the hard puzzles and the expert are all unsolvable for me without help. Feels like there should be a difficulty level in between those two.

I had a sudoko app that I really liked, but it does not scale on my new iPad. Wish I could keep using that one. This particular app is a close second, though. Make the changes I suggested and Sudoku would be 5 stars for me.

Best of

2023-05-30

This is the best this app app in Sudoku Store! The rest have intrusive ads popping up at all time, huge paywalls and non-intuitive UIs (User Interfaces). The ads on Sudoku are fairly non-intrusive - only a brief one in order to start a puzzle. There is a great hint system to help teach the logic behind solutions, which comes in very helpful with particularly challenging puzzles. And it looks nice. There’s always room for improvement, of course, but this is generally a great app! The one thing that is driving me CRAZY though is that there doesn’t seem to be any sort of logical criteria for the Gold or Silver checkmarks obtained from Daily Puzzles!! Last night I finished a Medium level in my fastest time ever, 4:03 (which is well under half of par!), and got a Silver Checkmark!! Right now I finished another Medium level in 21:40, WITH an accidentally pressed mistake, and got a Gold Checkmark!! Whaa…?? I don’t understand. 😕 What’s the reasoning?! I just…don’t get it. It’s baffling me. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Edit:
Thank you for the Developer Response, explaining the checkmark system on the Daily Puzzles.
It makes sense now that the Gold is only awarded the day of the puzzle.
I wish that it was explained somewhere in Sudoku , because as it stands none of that is elucidated anywhere.
But thank you again for answering!

Incredibly bummed :(

2023-07-01

Although I highly recommend this developer and have and very much enjoy several of their games I have now run across another minor thing that bums me out.

I like to play the daily challenges. And during the month you can pick any day you want from the first of the month till the current day. I was happily working on March and now we are in April and I can’t go back and finish March :( :( I didn’t realize I had a time limit to finish the month. *sigh*

I would love to go back to the very first day this game became available and try to do ALL the daily challenges up until today. I can easily do a few a day. Please keep this in mind for us OCDers :)

Best sudoku app I’ve ever seen, with a tiny quibble

2023-08-01

I love the features here, like the number paint tool and the auto fill so I can get right into the meat of the puzzle, and I love how the hints are educational about the puzzle theory, instead of just telling me what goes in that square. I appreciate that the ad plays before the puzzle instead of part way through breaking my concentration, or after the puzzle and downing the happiness of solving it. I also like that the majority of the ads either have no sound, or are muted by default. I love Sudoku so much!!

The only issue I have is what I think is just a bug, where on my iphone 6, I can’t access the leaderboard, but I can see it just fine on my ipad. When I click the scores button, it just flashes the animation, but doesn’t actually take me to the screen. Since I mostly do this from my phone, it’s kinda disappointing, so I would love if that was fixed sometime.

Why the Audio Ads???

2023-09-02

The audio advertisements are literally a “game-changer” for me!!! I’ve used Sudoku for years and really love it! I use it almost every day. BUT ... just picture me turning my game on (not knowing the ads have been added) and the “blaring” advertisement not only makes me jump, but it wakes my husband up and starts the dog barking!!! I’m looking for a new app, but if you ever make it possible to turn the sound off on these ads, I’ll come back. Please add this one feature. And by the way, I would never even consider buying something from those annoying ads.

I used to love this game

2023-10-04

This was the best version of the game that I had found. I have been playing this version for several years with no issues. But suddenly, in the last few days, they have been loading way too many crappy ads for slot games which literally freeze up my iPad! One ad per game would be fine, but they run several before each game, and the second one freezes my iPad, and I cannot clear it unless I restart.
Brainium, knock it off! I would gladly pay a few bucks to avoid this nuisance but that isn’t offered as far as I can tell.

Please read!!!

2023-11-04

Hey guys! It’s sally! Back again to say that I love this game SO much and I would love to play it if only my mom would let me! That darn age restriction is really a Debby downer! I just want kids around the world to be able to play this game without having to have a parents restriction. It would be great to see such a progressive game to make a change for the better! If you are still reading this thank you for sticking around I know that may people have busy schedules and need a relaxing break during their day! This is a great way to relax from whatever bills are pulling up on you desk! I know that it really helps me after a day of hard work at preschool! I would love to see a lower age restriction!!! Lots of love to you all!!- Sally

Captivating time

2023-12-06

Using this game makes my spare time go by quickly. It may take five or even ten minutes to complete a game but to me it never becomes boring and as you may know, I have been playing this game for years. The designers have done a great job at making it easy to continue on from your acquired level. The new design makes it easier to see the overall picture of the game. It has proven to be a very good entertaining and satisfying past time. It stimulates my brain power and helps keep me alert in other aspects of my life. I like it and would recommend it to anyone who has a knack for number games. Have fun as I have been and still intend to.😊

Great App, No Complaints

2024-01-06

This is the first this app app I have tried but I don’t have any desire to try others for comparison because this one has everything I need. There are 5 difficulty levels which is great because it allows your to progress to harder levels subtly instead of making big jumps to games that are much harder. You can take notes in the squares easily. The hint option provides small, piecemeal hints that give you a chance to figure out what to do once you know where to look instead of just telling you what to do. The hints sometimes also give explanation of strategy that teaches you how to figure out how to approach a situation in future games. I like Sudoku a lot!

Great version of great game!

2024-02-07

I really like playing this app in Sudoku. You can control what is automatic vs manual. I like to play "manually," so I really like that. Once I've turned off the "flag incorrect answers" option, I love that I can hit a check button and it will confirm if my answers are right so far. So I know I'm not going down a wrong path, but I get to choose when and if I want that help. The best feature to me is the hint. Instead of just filling in an answer for you like in other apps, the hint is actually a hint -- "look carefully at this row", for example-- so you get better at doing the puzzle by learning what to look for. Thanks!!

Love this app but new formatting makes it hard to play

2024-12-16

I love this this app app - it’s the best version I’ve come across. The interface is intuitive, games are challenging, and the functions like notes and all are easy to use. That said, I’m finding a lot of frustration with the new design - specifically the number pad. It seems like a small change, but moving the paint and note keys to the top of the number pad makes a huge difference in being able to play because of muscle memory. I’ve been using Sudoku for years, so my mind and hands are accustomed to things on the number pad being in a specific place. Now the brush and pencil are at the top and each row of numbers is moved down one row from what I’ve been accustomed to. I’m finding it very difficult to play as a result and consistently hit incorrect numbers while working on puzzles which results in massive error points. Very frustrating! I also keep hitting the wrong keys when I want to turn notes off and on - something about the graphics just isn’t working for my brain and I will hit the paint function instead - more error points! I thought I’d adapt to the change, but, instead, I’m finding myself using Sudoku less than before simply because it’s become a struggle to play smoothly. Interface matters as does muscle memory for location on the screen. Please go back to the previous number pad arrangement.

Fantastic Game of Suduko

2024-12-16

I’ve downloaded other Suduko games on my cell. Until the other day I discovered this well developed, eye appealing, several option settings and difficulties. I’m going to now delete all othe Suduko games on my cell. TY4 the time, effort, creative minds that designed this style!!! I have traumatic brain damage and I was taught this game keeps my brain working, eye-hand coordination; until my brain screams at me to take a break. Come on everyone! You’re reading reviews for a reason. I have nothing to do with this fantastic game. PLEASE STOP LOOKING, I love this game and I KNOW YOU’ll LOVE IT YO; TRUST ME!!
