Fantastic.

Undoubtedly the best version of this app available on iOS. Clean and fast interface, quality of life tools that can be toggled easily mid-game, easy to make notes, auto population of notes that update automatically as you play, wide range of difficulty level, statistics on play history. I love Sudoku, and I recommend it to everyone that likes/is interested in this app.

I wish dearly that they would also make other board sizes available (16x16, 4x4) but only because it’s such a drag to play other board sizes on other interfaces now that I’m used to this excellent app.

Good With 1 Complaint

The game is well designed with one exception. When you fill in a number for a box as an answer, rather than a note of a possible solution for a box, it will automatically erase all conflicting notes on other boxes. So if I put “9,” for example in a box, it will automatically erase all other notes where 9 might be an answer in the same rows and columns. That is good! But it’s very easy to put down a number accidentally as an answer, when you only intend to list it as a note of possible answers. When you do that, and I promise you will accidentally do that more than once, a bunch of your notes on other boxes are automatically erased. If you don’t catch it right away, it will ruin that game.

Great app!

This is definitely the best this app app I've found so far!

The only feature that I feel is very sadly missing: the ability to input our own custom puzzles (from a newspaper or what have you). That would make it a 5-star app for sure.

Thank you!

-----

Update: I still love Sudoku!

Some other things I've noticed: There is a huge jump in difficulty between Evil and Diabolical. With Evil puzzles, I can't really use any of the advanced strategies I know, but with Diabolical, they can often ONLY be solved using guess and check (at least this is true for me). Is there any way to make Evil just a touch harder than it is?

After reading the reviews, I think it's clear that users aren't looking at the available settings. There are so many options to customize your experience, it's so great! But people don't seem to know. Perhaps a popup for first time players would be helpful. You could include a "how this works" gif for some of the more "confusing" options, so that people know exactly what to expect when they tap squares, depending on the setting.

This is the best one

I changed iPods recently because I lost the other one, and I waded through several other apps to find this one, the one I loved so much on the old iPod.

Sudoku has everything I need. And it isn't burdened with a lot of fancy schmancy graphics. Some app producers seem to think that if they make the letters or numbers move or fly through the air, they will have enhanced the experience and made it better or even unique. These guys only added those features, which you can turn off or on, that really help.

No Ads Appreciated

I appreciate the fact there are no Ad pop ups that spoil your train of thought, however I do have one major problem with this version. I wish the toggle of the main/notes button could be locked one way or the other. I don’t like that it auto-switches back to “notes” when I have figured out the square’s answer then I have to manually switch it or else my entry just becomes another note or worse, erases the note of the answer number in that square.

Dark mode too dim

This is a very good basic this app game. All the basics are there regarding self-checks, highlights, paint mode (number then grid), etc. It would be nice to see a solver/hint mechanism, but otherwise it’s very solid.

The one ding would be for night mode. It’s good that it picks darker colors, but it lowers the overall board brightness to be much dimmer than the rest of the phone as well so it ends up unusable. That’s something I would do myself with the brightness slider, and it’s not appropriate for the game to do it too. The game should only go dark on dark colors with normal brightness and let the phone dim as necessary.

Back to five stars - thanks for Retro option

Update: Excellent response from app management to users requests. Happy again! Update: This is really upsetting, I hate the new color themes, should give the option of choosing the old color theme. I play this game more than twice a week, but I'm already looking for an alternative ....... Old write up: Excellent interface. The way I mark it on paper. After two years, I'm still enjoying it at least once a week.

Diabolical needs to be more difficult

It's a good line this app game. Evil is easy though, and I rarely get to use a trick (or whatever they're called). And diabolical usually involves a chain. Still, it's a lot of fun and my favorite this app game so far.

I do have a request. Once a mode is selected, it should stay that way until it is manually changed. It drives me nuts that I can be in notes mode, then I click on a number and it changes back without my changing it. Please correct this, thank you.

Challenging if you want, or easy when you don't.

With all the options to turn notes, highlights, and hints on and off you can challenge your self to what ever level you feel like. The ability to save several open puzzles from different skill levels in the grids menu is a real plus. Would love to see a global on off toggle on the notes button so I don't have to keep turning it off for every square when I'm on a roll.

Amazing App

I really love Sudoku (against all others). I think the layout is night. The tools are easy to use. And I LOVE having a daily challenge. It is completely worth your time.

I only have one issue - the “night mode”. I love the idea, but it’s SO DARK. It dims the screen and makes it practically unplayable. I’d love some kind of a slider or options for a little more brightness with the night mode. It’s a fantastic idea that I would certainly utilize.

Thank you devs for a wonderful this app app!

Sharpen your mind faster than chess!!

I’ve been working this app puzzles since early 2001 when I was tapped to develop a Crime Analysts Training to support Police Intelligence Operations (for unclassified details, Google search).
What I quickly discovered was a lot of trainers suggested chess as a way to “Sharpen the Saw” and while there were computer applications that could simulate an opponent, I needed a better ROI on time invested in mental exercise in logic and reasoning. this app meets that need.
this app allows you to merge the acuity of your observations with logical reasoning to enhance critical thinking 🤔.
There are no single perfect applications that can do it all - however, through the strategic combination of applying programs with specific attainable goals and the unique required to pay attention to detail, this app and similar applications can significantly help.

Nice app

I would give it 5 stars if there were a way to blank a square after you enter a wrong number. Everything else is great. Also, my wife and I print out 2 copies of the same puzzle and then race to see who can finish first. There are solitaire games out there that allow you to race with another player so why not a version of this app that allows a timed competition playing the same puzzle on two devices at the same time?

Great App

Great interface, lots of difficulty levels (with ad free version, well worth the $3). I was using a different this app app that was fine but after a while the hard difficulty was just too easy. Sudoku has very hard cards to play which is great. Also, I wanted something that could track my statistics, which this has as well. I also love that there are no hints available, because well, what the hell is the point of hints in this app? Lol

Very strong

I've used several this app apps and this one is stronger in many ways. It's only flaw is that its cumbersome switching back and forth from notes and when going to a square with notes you have to switch off notes to fill in the square. This isn't difficult but takes more time and slows down the game. Other than that, the difficulty levels are excellent and the game is otherwise very fluid

Easy on the Eyes

this app games all PLAY the same obviously, but this one rates ✮✮✮✮✮ from me for being particularly easy on the eyes. The numbers are large and bold, and while there are "themes" available, the colors are clearly selected by a designer who knows about legibility. Too many this app games rely on very subtle gradations of saturated color, as if their little rainbow displays were the point of the game... This is the version to get if actual GAME PLAY is your primary interest. Great job!

Love the simplicity of this app

I think I’ve played this game more than any other I’ve downloaded from Sudoku Store. Sudoku is reliable, the interface and stats tracking is simple, and it provides an enjoyable short break from the daily grind of work.

I was shocked to log in and see dark mode because that means the developer is still actively maintaining Sudoku and honestly that’s great. I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

Perfect Sudoku App

I have had this application installed on my iPad from the very beginning. It works great. I like the features including the undo feature and the recompute feature. I have been able to solve a few of the diabolical’s but the truth is I think it may have been a matter of luck. It’s a great app I’d recommend it to anybody likes playing this app.

Nice app in general

I would give 5 stars if:

1. 'Medium' meant 'Medium', not 'Indeterminate'. While some 'Medium' puzzles are just a bit harder than some 'Easy' puzzles, others are harder than some 'Difficult' puzzles.

2. There were an option to bookmark a spot while solving a puzzle you could easily back up to. Sometimes you just have to take a guess: e.g, a cell may contain a 2 or a 7, proceed from there, and back up if your choice leads to getting blocked. Alternatively, an option to change colors for subsequent entries would make it easier to back up by erasing such marked cells instead off hitting 'Undo' many times. On paper, one usually has colored pencils available.

Of course, I gladly paid the small fee to get rid of infuriating ads.

Best UI in all sudoku-land

I'm a bit of an app perfectionist. I will download 20 apps that do the same thing, looking for the very best one. Did that with this app apps too, and this one came out way on top. Started with the free version, and gladly paid for the ad-less upgrade a few weeks later. The UI is good-looking, sure, but it's the most intuitive and most user-friendly as well. Addicted now.

Best Sudoku App (after many test-drives)

I’ve been playing this app for 20+ years and enjoy all levels. With the introduction of app-based this app I’ve test-driven MANY applications. They’ve been clunky, disjointed, and inconsistent in their level settings. This is important when teaching the “littles” in my life the fun that is this app.
This version is clean, functions well and is consistent in its levels. Really love Sudoku!
