French Dictionary Reviews

I didn’t download this for longer than 5 minutes before I deleted it. I tried using some settings and they were not user friendly. I tried to translate one word and it wouldn’t translate, just kept taking me to purchase options. I clicked the pronunciation icon once and it said I had exhausted the trial and had to pay $0.99 for any more. This needs to have more free options or just make it a paid app. In-app purchase options are just too much and get in the way of the simplest of tasks. Not worth it.

I got this for the scan functionality, which is truly horrible. Another app I tried worked much better.

The dictionary itself is also very unimpressive and oddly free of formatting.

Last and worst, the ads are incredibly obnoxious and require dismissal about two times a minute.

The definitions of the French words don't indicate if nouns are masculine or feminine -- this is really inexcusable since it is one of the main things I look for in the definition. Do the developers know about French usage?

This is a trial version with some features such as audio pronunciation only allowed the first few times. This version has full screen ads that come up when you just want to look up a word-- very annoying.

The second you type anything you’re interrupted by ads even after you purchase the dam* thing. Also, their customer service is horrible. I had an issue with my account and their reply was basically that’s not our problem [PERIOD]. No interest in knowing more about the problem for future reference or in helping a customer whatsoever.

I was hoping for an easy-to-use French/English, English/French dictionary. Don't know if it's my iPad (although I don't have this problem anywhere else), but it takes several hard taps to switch between English and French. I was very disappointed that there is no option to hear French pronunciation. On the plus side, if you want a very rudimentary dictionary, this is FrenchDictionary for you.

Without knowing the gender of the words, this is a useless dictionary. Does anyone know if the "paid" version has the gender of the word? I end up having to look up the words in a real dictionary, so what's the point of this software? The "le" and "la" are very important in French. Not sure what they were thinking by leaving out this vital information.

FrenchDictionary is good for fast search of French words but does not have French pronunciation. The definitions are very complete but are in English only. There are different meanings for the same word in French that are not included.

I think it's a pretty good app. Has a good amount of phrases and words. The only thing is it doesn't have a lot of phrases that are commonly used and I'm finding myself going to Google more than I should have to.

Can be hard to use at first. It also doesn’t give you a description of the word. If I search the french word for look I get many results but I have no idea if some mean stare or some glance. But otherwise it’s pretty good.

Good! But Sometimes you can't find a word. Not big vocabulary. On other hand the vocabulary available is good enough. Some options ( like games, word of the day, random vocabulary) make your study fun, if you have time to play around. I like it.

Sending ads thru a dictionary is a new concept but they are only between English and something else. Vocabulary is not great but works for intermediate level users.

Useful for everyday use. Does not take the place of a dictionary. Really wishing it did. Some words are missing. Hard to switch between either languages. It is free so no complaining.

This is much more than a dictionary -- it's a thesaurus, a game, and a great help with vocabulary through the use of flashcards. My only complaint is that it doesn't indicate gender until you open the definition,which otherwise isn't always necessary.

Reliable app that I refer back to all the time. Small suggestion... I would add more words that are found in other dictionaries

Beats having to carry a large dictionary with you. So far accuracy is good & I have found all the words I needed. Another good point is examples of use. And of course the price is right.

Don't write many reviews but I love FrenchDictionary! I was hesitant about getting the full version, but I love it. Links to Word Reference, has flash cards, audible pronunciations, it is must for anyone studying French. I study other languages; I wish they'd make this dictionary for other languages as well. Thanks.
