Beautiful app when you can see it. The first day, I was able to see some really beautiful manuscripts. However, for the past two days, I've been receiving constant "cannot connect to the server" messages when I try to view books.
I would have given FamousBooks five stars if each manuscript had thumbnails. No way to see multiple pics at once. Otherwise amazing app and great quality photos.
Love browsing through FamousBooks it gives me inspiration every day! Sometimes I find that it takes a while to load images but other than that, great app!
I rated it 4 stars because the pictures of original texts are very good. Love the paintings and the collection in general. I do wish that you could actually read the texts though. The words are not legible so if you're downloading because you want to read the stories, then FamousBooks is not for you. Mainly to appreciate old art.

This is a truly wonderful app. My wife and I just sat and flipped through this in total amazement. A must see.
Absolutely beautiful material. Thanks to the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek for sharing their treasures with those of us who cannot actually travel there to see these masterpieces in person. I hope other libraries will take the time to share their collections with the rest of the world. Also, I have an older iPod Touch and, other than a weird authorization glitch in iTunes, FamousBooks works fine on my iPod.
As someone with a great interest in Medieval literature, this collection is a wonderful treat. You have access to beautifully-rendered scans of every single page of many extremely old, delicate works that you would otherwise never even have a chance to see. I'm very impressed, and I hope that more rare book collections like this one become available in the future. It's any scholar's dream!
FamousBooks is fantastic :) The images are lovely and the text is beautiful! I recommend FamousBooks for anyone who loves old texts and beautiful images!

FamousBooks is awesome. Every calligrapher and letting artist should have this. It's an awesome resource. So wonderful they were able to put this into an app. This is one of my most favorite apps. I will recommend it to my artist friends.

I almost never write reviews but 10 minutes after looking at the contents of FamousBooks I stopped marveling long enough to come here and note that this is indeed a treasure.

FamousBooks provides access to beautiful manuscripts I wouldn't ever get to see otherwise, and in a very user-friendly interface, and I love how you can zoom in so close. I just wish there were more apps like this one! Now if only I could actually read any of these languages... :)
It is great to see such old treasures in their full form...not just a page or two (like the British Library app). The descriptions that accompany each piece were helpful, too.
