This thing is worthless. Whatever song, artist or album you select it plays an entirely different song and artist. For instance I selected Rod Stewart and it played the Eagles. I selected 38 Special and it played Some girl band I’ve never even heard of. I paid for the so-called “Pro” version but I was a sucker. It doesn’t work at all. Not a single song plays that I select. I wish I hadn’t wasted my money. Not happy at all. Zero Stars.
I cannot find anything that clears the music queue, so now I have 900 files in that queue and no way to clear it unless I delete each file separately. When I open 8playerPro, it never opens to the play page so I can just play what’s in my queue. I have to touch the tiny icon at the bottom of the screen to get to the queue.
It downloads files, but, once downloaded, they’re in a folder and when I go there, I see a list of files, but no way to play them.
Every time I want to do something on this program, I feel like I’m on Spaceball One, where you have to prepare to do everything before you can do it. It’s like going around your thumb to get to your elbow. You just can’t do something, you have to take multiple steps to do it.
And when you need support to ask a simple question like, “How do I clear the queue?” There is no way to even find the developer’s website.
It does play music files, so it’s not a total loss, but you can just get VLC for that and it does better and there are support forums.
Just got 8playerPro to access my DLNA server. It found the server straight off and connected easily. Went to my audio folders and was excited to find (unlike with several other apps), a) it automatically created a playlist of the folder from tapping one song in the folder, and b) I could adjust how the folder was sorted, including the most important, NO SORT. Why do so many apps ruin a perfectly good playlist by forcibly resorting it alphabetically? My one complaint so far is that my audio files have gorgeous high res album art, but 8player shows crappy pixelated images that would look at home on an 8-bit gaming console. What gives?
Edit: 8playerPro has recently been unable to find my Dona servers when it used to have no problem.
8playerPro is okay. I like the DLNA functionality, but creating playlist in 8playerPro is difficult. Songs can only be saved to playlists from the playback queue, not the library. Also for some reason the song titles for some songs disappear leaving a file path message. Not very helpful. Looking for another DLNA option.
Well, retracting my last review. I was mistaken. You can't play the next item in the folder withtout exiting the video that's playing and "finding" the next item. But there is an option to play the next item when the current one finishes.
The chromecast icon never shows up on the screen (both iPad and iPhone), so I have no way to cast to the TV other than screen mirroring. For videos, I find VLC works better and has chromecast that works.
8-player pro seems to support all the videos, photos and music I have, but I gave three stars due to inability to cast.
However, last version has a glitch. Trying to open file and 8playerPro keeps re-opening and closing non stop!!! Any fix to it!
Thanks.
Have enjoyed this product for well over 5 years now. It is fantastic in every way. I have recently started to build up a decent GIF library and was curious if it was possible to play gifs?
Hi, there is a bug in this version, when listening to a music folder in my nas server and the playlist is finish each time i want to go back to root folder to choose another folder or album 8playerPro cant resolve folder list and it keeps spining... each time you need to close completely 8playerPro and reopen again ...and so on...tried both on my iphone xs max and ipad pro. Plz fix
I really love 8player as it has a simple and intuitive interface and plays everything from my home server via DLNA with ease! Whether I use my iPhone, iPad or AppleTV - I have a consistent and pleasurable experience!
Their support is also excellent. I had a question on the Apple TV version and they responded really quickly.
Overall great product and great support. I’ve removed all other players and this is my go to media app!
Super simple user interface that plays everything and with no 250 object limitations that I see in a lot of media players. And pro is very inexpensive.
It is a great video player for network shares both Samba and DLNA. I bought it on AppleTV where it works exceptional. It plays all the common video formats. It also does mp3 and images for slight shows. The purchase on AppleTV extends to my iPad where it works as well. There are many customization options. Lastly I like that it is a small one time cost. No account or subscription needed.
I have been scripting a ubuntu server for personnel sync of all of my content from my cellular devices without corp business prying their eyes and me having to give my content to and signing my privacy over. For the time being, this has been what I needed to suffice.
Among dozens of video players available, this is just the one playing all files right! Picture, sound, subs all good. Has been using 8playerPro for 5 years. Just transfer movies over iTunes. It supports all popular file formats! Amazing!
Been using this player since it first appeared, haven’t found anything else to compare! If you’re looking for a good media player with lots of connectivity, this is it!
8playerPro is not perfect, and at the same time it is the best one I’ve seen that has a version for both Apple TV and iOS. I use it to connect to JRiver media server and it works better than JRiver’s own remote app. It also lets you download files directly to your phone from your network. Something about the video playback quality is not as good as VLC Media player so I use that for video and this for music.
I thought I had looked everywhere for an app with a good interface to reliably play DLNA streamed music from my NAS on my iPhone.
Works flawlessly! I can even control other DLNA renderers, chromecast, or Bluetooth. Thank you!
I’ve been using this since I bought my NAS. The WD NAS capabilities to connect with new tech is fading in the horizon.
This still rocks in a few clicks. No fancy bells and whistles! Just the good ol movies running the way its supposed to work!

I have looked for a long time to find a DLNA app that works with my iPhone and Windows computer that didn’t cost a fortune. 8player does it all.
I purchased this for Apple TV because I was having issues with VLC app connecting to network shares (on Apple TV but not iPhone). Well worth the $5. 8playerPro also supports flv files.
8playerPro indeed plays the next item in the folder if you enable the feature in Settings.
One thing I don't like is that you have to enable Windows File Sharing if using a Mac.
The one feature it is lacking is a "next" button (next item/video), which would be convenient to have along with the existing "skip ahead 30 seconds" button. The skip 30 seconds does indeed work very well, but tedious is watching longer video.
