Good app; bad update

App used to be useful and easy to use. The daily tide chart was good.

But now: Full screen ad on opening fully blocking tide info. At worst, ad can't be closed without downloading something unrelated (like a casino app). Unacceptable. At best, ad has to be closed to see app. Behavior depends on ad that shows up.

Now: once very useful tide graph has been modified to be less useful. Now: cannot drag line on tide graph to see tide height at a particular time.

Basic

This used to be the best tide app for the simple feature of being able to scroll through the chart waveform to see what time the tide was exactly at any moment of the day. This was crucial for me to get my boat into our slip due to low tide. Now it is not available. Also you can no longer see a chart for a future date???? Why? Why did these simple stand out features end?? Please bring them back.

WAS great, bad update

Still prefer the old version. The past two updates killed the good app

By

Horrible!!!!!

The update ruined TideApp!!! I used to be able to scroll to see what the tide would be when I wanted to take my boat out. For some reason I can't even fathom, they deleted this very useful functionality. Let the market speak ... delete TideApp and get one of the many other and now-much-better apps out there.

Hate the update

This used to be my favorite tide app but no longer. The current format is difficult to decipher, no longer allows you to easily see future forecasts and when it opens there are adds the fill the entire screen. I have deleted TideApp from my tablet.

Unhappy with upgrade

Since the update, it is not possible to scroll down the graph to see times when there is going to be enough water to plan activities. Having info only on a current tide and high and low is not sufficient for planning purposes. Old version was great!

Startup ad

I have used TideApp since I had my first iPhone. I am now going to delete it because when I launch it I have to launch a ad in my browser. I really appreciated TideApp over the years. If you make a version I can buy and go ad free., I would.

It used to be great

The old version was great. Now you can not slide the line to find out what the tide is at any given time. Need to be able to find out when you can get the boat out. Please bring back this feature.

Don't bother

This used to be a decent APP, not any more full screen Adds one after the other that you can't minimize or close. Total waste of money and time. I have uninstalled TideApp and will look for an honest software developer

Old version was easier to use

New version doesn't list things in order of when they occur, and doesn't tell the next high or low tide. It's pretty useless now. :(

Used to be great

This used to be an excellent and accurate app. Now all one gets is a screen to install a game, that you can't get around to see tides. TideApp just lost a customer.

Great functions but bad coding

TideApp takes too much memory and often crashes. There is no recognizing whether an advertisement needs a WiFi connection, so sometimes TideApp says it needs a WiFi connection, and other times it does and the cellular network is fine (note: I more often want to know tides when I am on a boat or boardwalk .. that is to say away from a WiFi connection). However, having the list of many cities is great, especially for trip planning. The interface is otherwise nice (save the aforementioned crashing). The many different screens provides a lot of information, though ... if I were a project manager, I would say the memory issues needs to be solved, even at the loss of some of the information or functionality.

Where did my tides go????

After updates, screens don't move to reveal information previously available.

NOW USELESS!

By

Not consistent

Have added advertisements and now it does not load.

By

Excellent

Phenomenal on timing slack tides for bar crossings

By

Now terrible

Used to be a cool app. Now I can’t get past the opening ad

By

Upgrade busted

TideApp does not get past an opening ad. Useless.

No Costa Rica!

What kind of a this app would not include the country of Costa Rica?

It’s worth paying for and it’s free

This is a review of Ver. 2.2 of this app running under iPhone OS 2.1.

Atlantis Technology should be applauded for putting such a well done app out there for free. TideApp starts out with a list of states and provinces (and other countries). It’s a lengthy list. After selecting a state, you are then presented with a sub-list of inlets, bays, and ports within that state/province. The selections are comprehensive and lengthy and I applaud Atlantis for this. Selecting a specific location provides you with a text-based summary of the present tide conditions and notable upcoming highs and lows. You can also click on a graphical tide graph (sinusoidal curve) to easily see where the current tide is in the grand scheme of things.

As other reviewers had pointed out about Ver. 2.1 of TideApp, the two-step nature of selecting a location (state/port) could be tedious because of the comprehensive listings. So Atlantis Technology rapidly responded with their Ver. 2.2 which allows you to create a “Favorites” folder and to select one of your favorites as the default startup screen.

Given that this does what it says, is simple to use, is plenty fast in retrieving data, and is FREE, I give this app five stars. Thanks Atlantis.

ATTENTION: Here's a Work-Around!

I put together this (tolerable) work-around from hints out of the iPod touch user's comments below.

Here is the proceedure:

1) Go into your iPhone's settings.
2) Turn off Wi-fi.
2) Turn "Airplane Mode" on.
3) Wait 1 second, then turn "Airplane Mode" off.
4) Quickly press the home button, then launch tide app (see note*).
5) Tide App should launch (thank goodness!), and just dismiss the message about slowness.

*Note: It may help to place the this app icon next to the settings icon. This will help you launch it fast enough (ridiculous to have to do this, I know).
If you don't know how to move the icons, just press and hold on one of them until they start to wiggle. Then drag them around to rearrange them. Press the home button when you're done.

I got it to work every time. It is an annoyance, but worth it to get TideApp functioning if you really need it.

Semi-Technical Details: The way I understand it, apparently this app can be launched (without getting hung) when no network connection is available. However, it must have a network connection to get the tide data after it starts. Thus there is a small window of opportunity to successfully start TideApp during the time the iPhone is seaching for an available network connection.

Has anyone managed to get in touch with the developer lately about his broken piece of software??????

App hacked

Or they gave up on it. Now get promotion about food pouches... deleted app and reinstalled. Same. Going away forever now.
