Updated review

Mostly good, low rating because it’s annoying when trying to pause sound, music blasts out.
I would appreciate an update where the phone registers aSleep on the home screen for play and pause.

Please, Quality over Quantity!

I was a big this app fan already, and love some of the new sounds.

However, I have at least 3 times now had the sound fade off while the timer was still running. A bug in the upgrade? Never did that before in the old version.

Second, I do love the addition of rain with thunder, however, since the thunder is distinct, the length of the loop is pretty obvious. Please come up with a longer loop for this one! It's my favorite but I find it to repetitive. I have not listened to the other sounds at length, but I would ask the developer to focus more on Quality and length of the loops. I'd rather have less, high quality loops than a ton of sounds but not be able to enjoy them.

Lastly, I am not sure if this is an accident or translation issue, but a couple things are phrased oddly, Signs Studios might want to edit in next update to look more professional.
"Rain with thunders" should be "Rain with thunder"
Is "Thundra" meant to be "Tundra"?
And on the main "home page" it says "Relax yourself with nature sounds and sweet melodies that helps you fall this app". Better grammar would be "Relax yourself with nature sounds and sweet melodies that help you fall this app".

Still love this program, just would like to see the fade out bug fixed and the thunder & rain loop longer. Thanks!

Relax

I have owned aSleep for years. Always nice to fall this app to. Sleep well.

It gets the job done... sorta

Don't get me wrong; aSleep is GREAT and who can beat the price for everything you get? But is more like "aRelax" than "this app". It really gets me in that rested, meditated state at night (or even while getting a facial at the spa), but I haven't been able to actually fall this app to the tune of aSleep for a few reasons: 1) The loops are kind of short and noticeable, and it gets annoying after 5 minutes 2) I had one experience where I set the timer for 90 minutes and put my iPod touch on the speaker, and 30 minutes into the sound it shut off by itself while the timer was still running. No biggie, I just set it again. One thing I would really like to see with aSleep is something like an alarm clock - so, if you want to take a quick cat nap at work, you could set the timer and the alarm, and when the timer runs out, the alarm would go off to wake you up. I know you can do this with the ipod touch, but it would be great to kill two birds with one app. Great app and can't wait for updates!!

I love it

I've used a CD on a stereo for years as white noise to drown out noises such as apartment upstairs neighbor stomping or cat meowing or workman running machinery next door. I didn't really think this little iPhone app could compare to my mini stereo but it totally does. I always use crashing ocean waves for white noise. I love the version on aSleep. I use the one with sragulls, and it is full and loud and does a great job of making bad noises disappear so I can sleep. It definitely has exceeded my expectations. Indeed it does have a fairly short repeat cycle so that I recognize the same seagull call every minute or so, and it would be better if the cycle were longer, but it's not really a problem for me. aSleep is a keeper.
Update weeks later -- I still love aSleep, it's one of those ones I use every day and have come to depend on. I was just looking at other white noise apps, just wanted to say this is the only one I can find that has crashing waves both with and without seagulls. All the others do not have seagulls. My CD white noise had seagulls so that's what I like . I appreciate that aSleep has that option.

I am an "intractable pain patient" due to migraine headaches. When I have one of my daily attacks where I can still tolerate sound, this program helps with my self-hypnosis to achieve a deep trance state & then to drift off to sleep. I wrap my head in a large, long lasting ice pack, go to my room where I make it as dark as possible, take my iPhone and open this program. Then having chosen the "sound" & volume level I can handle, I place my eye mask on to block out any slivers of light and create a deeper blackness, I lay back into the softness of my pillows on my bed and await relief. This "tiny" program helps to break down the wall of pain where even the strongest, & I DO mean the STRONGEST, prescription pain medication would never on it's own. Thank you to the makers of this program. You have no idea how much this one program means to this one individual. I recommend this strongly for those looking for just a gentle background noise with a timer to those who need help with more difficult issues and need the sound to continue until they manuallly turn it off.

Definitely worth the price tag!!!

Nice Program glad to see it! Please add updates!

I would have gave this program five stars but with the rain, wind, beach and forest I would have liked to hear soft music in the background as well in these areas.... would like to see a serenity area as well.... also when I set the timer and then wanted to stop it the timer kept going on the main screen, may be or may not be the way I did it.... also in future updates I hope we are able to add other songs under each category. This is really a nice program for people as myself that experience Anxiety Disorders here and there through life! I am not happy I bought and would recommend it to anyone that has to go through what I do at times.... and don't ask me why I am like this because I do not know.... I hate anxiety attacks and heart palpitations! And my only self help cure is by cds and programs like this!

Hopefully there is updates and I can add other songs to it and remove the cds off from my phone to have more storage space!

Great program but has bugs

For the downloading issue, you need to go back to apps and run the update/dl again, watch it and it should be fixed. If you try to run it on iTunes, it won't reconize it, you have to be next to a hot spot and run it all over again uninterrupted so it can work, not sure why that is. You know youre doing it right when it askes for you itunes password. I think it has to do with fairplay. And yes it takes very long to install, a good 15 minutes compared to the 1.0 version which took 5 tops. The safest bet would be to install through itunes instead the phone on this one.

The fading sound timer issue work around. Set valume on high and sleep the phone after you set the timer and it will follow the timer instead the light. I don't know why it does it and why this way works but it does.

Wonderful program that I use on my iPhone with my ihome but has some bugs compared to the original 1.0 version bit still use it to sleep all the time.

Has become a bedtime must!

I've had trouble turning my brain off at bed time since I was a little kid. It generally takes me over an hour to settle down. I'd never tried a sound machine before, but thought it was worth a buck to give this a shot. Now it usually takes me less than 20 minutes (I know because of the timing feature--super!) The rain is incredible. I'm not a fan of most of the other sounds, but luckily I never tire of the calming pitter-patter. No doubt this will become even more valuable on my next business trip--it's so hard to fall this app in hotels, especially when there's jet lag involved. If the other sounds were better, I'd give it five stars. As it is, I'd give it 4 1/2 if I could. Love it!

Overall a nice app, but...

If you're looking for an application that you can use to fall this app to, this may be the one for you. However, if you look at aSleep a little closer, you'll find that it's nothing more than a collection of stock loops (most from Garage Band/Soundtrack). It is better than buying a white noise machine from Sharper Image, but I don't think this is what Apple had in mind when they released those programs!

Aside from the numerous spelling and grammar errors (and I do mean A LOT), the only technical flaw I can find with the program is the volume control. It says, "to avoid a level sound shock the volume return back to it's default value everytime you press Stop," [SIC] but I just find it to be annoying to have to reset the volume after listening to each sound.

Good job overall, but it would be nice to see a little more original work on the sounds in the next release... and PLEASE have your next version proofread by someone!

GET AMBIENCE!! I wish there was a STAR MINUS !!!

Okay, alot of you were asking, what's the difference between this and AMBIENCE? So was I and since I had a buck to spare, I got this after I had got AMBIENCE a couple of weeks earlier. GET AMBIENCE!!! I don't know if its still for free, it was for me but if it costs less than 5 bucks, GET IT ANYWAY. Trust me. I don't write reviews often at all, about 3 in total and I use iTunes for everything for years. In summary, everytime I use this (plug it into my speakers and turn on the timer) in about 1-10 minutes for some odd reason, the volume turns itself all the way down!! This has happened to me everytime I use it, five times (I'm a patient man). I have had no problems whatsoever with AMBIENCE. Yeah this may 'seem' nicer and offer a couple of more sounds but it is not worth the aggravation. You get the same with ambience with no problems. I think what ticks me off the most is that I paid (a dollar) for this aggravation and got AMBIENCE for free! Don't be like me, I was the guinea pig, GET AMBIENCE!

15 listenable tracks, lots of filler.

Remarkably oversized download, and for really no good reason.

aSleep is larger than all the apps I've downloaded in the two weeks I've had my iPod combined. Even so, out of all the included sounds, there are maybe fifteen that are worth listening to.

There are a lot of very strange, irritating, uncomfortable to listen to sounds included in aSleep . One has to wonder, is anyone actually using these sounds to relax? Or were many of them added just as filler, so aSleep could be advertised as havng a large number of sounds?

Some updates that would make aSleep more useful:
• Give us the ability to change the background image
• Add the ability to delete annoying sounds that we don't want to listen to, or:
• Remove some of the filler sounds from aSleep .

One of my favorite aps

I really like aSleep and really don't see why such a simple app was subjected to such brutal critisizm. I tried a competitor's product for a bit more money and found this to be better. The sound is louder and there is truly a wide, wide variety of sounds to hear. People complained about the seagulls - ok, you have dozens of other sounds to hear. Relaxing, sea, water, wind and other noises. The interface is pretty simple. I totally use it when I go to sleep. And you can also get an audio cable and plug it into your stereo/clock radio/Ipod speakers to have much louder sound. Geez, what some people complain about for a product that cost 0.99 cents. I think it is very nice.

Great App!!!

I'm partly just balancing out the one star nut who felt that this application was specifically designed for him, and him alone. Hey, why don't you just build the perfect beast for yourself, genius? Anyway, I also give it five stars because I love aSleep itsellf! The sounds are great and I like the fact that they are realistic. I didn't find that having birds chirp in a rainforest to be annoying. It's actually the way it is there! I use different sounds for different things so the authenticity is appreciated. I also have Ambiance and iChillout and like them as well. They are all worth having on your phone. You don't have to just use it for sleep. Hook it up to the surround-sound and it's very cool!

Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with this in any way as a previous member has suggested.

For the price and the quality and effectiveness of the sounds and interface, all in all this is a very fine application. Great job. I would like to see some updates if possible, but it also good enough as is. Keep the price and MINOR updates and you can leave it alone and it will suceed I am sure.

The fade out idea someone suggested sounds good if this is plausible. but it's not entirely necessary. I'd like to see a few more choices of sounds at the same level of quality as what's already there.

So thank you for helping me sleep and don't spend my whopping 99 cents all in one place!

Good but would like more

Most importantly, aSleep put me to sleep and it's been stable.

As others have said, I'd like more variety with the sounds. But there are some things that I'd love to see and would be willing to pay more to get them all...

1. Fade out of sound with control over fade such as start fade-out a minute before the end.
2. A wakeup function would be great. It would act like an alarm clock and then start my selected sound before the actual wakeup time. Of course I'd want to control when it starts. Also fade-in on wakeup.
3. Ability to select from my library for sleep and wakeup. Apple seems to be ignoring library selection in their clock app. Alarm clock + music that I choose + fade in/out would be great.

aSleep Great **OS 2.2 Workaround**

Living in an apartment with thin walls, I use this app almost every night to doze off. However, with the iPhone OS 2.2 update, I was troubled when the program wouldn't function in "sleep" mode. There is a quick fix you can use while we wait for Signs Studios to upgrade the software...

1. Make sure to plug in your iPhone to wall power next to your bed
2. In your home screen "Settings", select General and then Auto-Lock. Instead of selecting anywhere between 1 and 5 minutes, select Never.
3. Proceed to set this app to your normal preferences.
4. In the morning, go back into the Auto-Lock settings and replace what you had previously set.

Excellent

The poster before me gave this a 1 star - that makes no sense to me at all. Most of what was posted is based on the older version. There is nothing difficult about the interface, so I don't get the complaint there? The sounds are actuallly pertty good, and either puts me to sleep or helps me to focus by keeping out side noise down. I would suggest that whoever had issues with the previous version download the newest release - then repost an update to the last review. My favorite here is Beach, Beach with seagulls, Rain and Thunder, Rain, Volcano errupting, Air plane cabin and wind. I have several other similar programs, this one is at the top!
