Sound Stopped Working

2024-09-24

After about 30 minutes of gameplay the sound stopped working completely. I have checked the game settings, checked my phone’s settings, restarted ReturntoMonkeyIsland , restarted my phone, and finally deleted and reinstalled ReturntoMonkeyIsland . Nothing has fixed the issue. The game is useless and not worth $10 without audio.

Restore option?

2024-09-18

Edit2: Three months later and still no fix for the restore option. Meanwhile it now shows up in Apple Arcade for subscribers to play while purchased owners get nothing if they need to restore it on a new device. Perfect way to do business and keep paying customers engaged.

Edit: One month later, where is the fix for the restore of past purchases? Is it too late to ask for a refund? Where is the restore option for those of us that purchased the game before it became free to try? Still waiting….

Promising re-visit

2024-10-07

In the scenes with all the kids, it was at first worrisome for older fans that they MI they remember is a kid game now, but then you’re Guybrush again and it all satisfies. I am at the part having the map to the mop and a hint refers to place that I can’t find; I wish it were clearer whether this is the point at which you have to buy the game before proceeding or if I missed something, it would be nice of the devs to make it clearer.

Decent

2024-10-07

Maybe it’s because I’ve never played the previous games but I found the ending to be abrupt and incredibly unsatisfying as a heads up. Up until that point the game was enjoyable, the puzzles made sense and the hint book was appreciated when needed. Aside from the ending my only other issues is the two finger swipe to skip dialogue sometimes didn’t work and would take multiple tries until it did.

Love the nostalgia but controls are defective

2024-09-24

None of the controls that require two fingers work, so I have to listen to painfully long dialog. Woe to me if I accidentally select a scene I’ve already cleared. If these were corrected, this would be a 5 star game.

So. Much. Dialog.

2024-09-30

I only made it 10 minutes before deleting the game because I don’t have the patience to sit through that much dialogue. Even skipping the dialogue took forever and requires multiple swipes. The graphics were amazing, so if you like games with heavy dialogue, you may enjoy this. I just can’t do it.

Fantastic Point & Click!

2024-09-30

If you are old enough to remember the classic point and click games like Monkey Island, Police Quest, King’s Quest, Space Quest, and you loved them, this game is for you! What a fun game, I literally couldn’t put it down for 2 days until I solved it. The puzzles are challenging on hard mode, I thought they were good. I cannot speak for easy mode. Definitely recommend this game and hope more are on the way.

Wonderful and Nostalgic

2024-09-30

I played on hard mode and it was wonderful. Everything you love about Monkey Island with some fresh twists. Familiar locations and characters along with some new ones. Lots of fun references to earlier inventory items, challenges, and storyline. It will definitely be a better experience for folks that have played the original games. People complaining about the ending don’t get the reference. It’s actually genius. The graphics and audio are great and the puzzles are the right level of challenging. I never pay this much for apps but, well, it’s Monkey Island!

Excellent throwback

2024-09-30

This was so nostalgic for me as I played a long long time ago. I love the developers note at the end of the scrapbook. I also felt very similar playing as I’m older now. I can’t wait to let my kids have a try. I could not put this down over the last couple days it was super super good. Love love love this, great job and I’ll spread the word as much as I can <3

Super fun game, I only play on hard mode in any game but i had to asks for a ton of hints but i legit couldn't put this game down i really enjoyed it and kinda bummed I bet it and its over lolol I've been play for 2 days straight even when I'm at work and i realllly love how thought out this game is, developer did a great job

Fantastic walk down memory lane

2024-10-08

I absolutely LOVED this game! I played the first two Monkey Island games back in the 90s and this one is just as fun. Lots of great puzzles, bad jokes, and swashbuckling fun! Also, a very nice nod to the game Adventure to those of you who played that text-based game.

You need this game

2024-10-08

Who knew this was actually going to happen AND make it to the best point and click platform: iOS. Great puzzles, funny, logical. Just one of the best P&C games from the old master Ron Gilbert. I just wish MI1 and MI2 were still available on iOS.

A fun game

2024-10-08

I had to use hints more than I liked and even had to lookup a walkthrough on how to beat the Queen. But all in all it’s an amazing game the one thing that really got me was not being able to skip dialog though.

Fun new chapter in the classic favorite

2024-10-08

All your favorite characters are back in this fan favorite. Ahoy Matey. Shiver me timbers swashbucklers. The mighty fierce pirate Guybrush needs your help again. If I told you the secret of Monkey Island, it wouldn’t be a secret. Lots of fun classic traditional puzzles, fun characters, cutely drawn story boards, great music per scene and more. Awesome voiceovers.

Nostalgic Entertainment

2024-10-08

Loved the original DOS games as a kid & this is an enjoyable adaptation. I especially enjoyed the lore behind "Jon Laney" who was known for impersonating all kinds of monsters & creatures, which is clearly a fantastic nod to the wonderful acting & makeup skills of Lon Chaney Sr.

Shut up and take my money.

Best game series ever. Nothing comes close.

It’s worth every penny!

2024-09-30

It’s been quite a while playing a game with rich storylines.

One of my all time favorites

2024-09-30

This brings me back to the adventure games of my childhood like Sierra and Kinqs Quest and Monkey Island please make some more they don’t make games like they used too

Just like old times

2024-09-30

I think im at least half-way through, so I can say that this game is fantastic. The humor and puzzles are just like the old games. I think the only complaint anyone could give is the art style, which I don’t mind. My son however…

Please make more

2024-09-30

I really liked this game. I really liked the art work and storyline. I hope they make more or redo the old version because the older ones are clunky for today’s use. Or change perspective and make the game from Elaine’s point of view or just her own storyline.

Features

The new chapter in the Monkey Island series marks the return of the iconic series’ creator Ron Gilbert, joined by game co-writer Dave Grossman, art director Rex Crowle (Knights & Bikes, Tearaway) and composers Peter McConnell, Michael Land, and Clint Bajakian (Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge).

Return to Monkey Island is an unexpected, thrilling return of series creator Ron Gilbert that continues the story of the legendary adventure games The Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge developed in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games.

Hip, young pirate leaders led by Captain Madison have shuffled the old guard from power, Melee Island has taken a turn for the worse, and famed businessman Stan has been imprisoned for ‘marketing-related crimes’.

His true love, Elaine Marley, has turned her focus away from governing and Guybrush himself is adrift and unfulfilled, having never found the Secret of Monkey Island.

Navigate the sometimes-friendly confines of Melee Island, a familiar place that finds itself under new management by leaders who have put the squeeze on old friends and new faces.

Bringing classic point and click gameplay to the modern-day, intrepid pirates will solve puzzles and explore the islands with a clever evolution of classic adventure game controls.

Venture out into uncharted lands like the aptly named Terror Island and the chilling outposts of Brrr Muda to make allies and enemies alike.

It’s been many years since Guybrush Threepwood was last locked in a battle of wits with his nemesis, the zombie pirate LeChuck.

Clever puzzles, bizarre situations, and devastating ripostes are all that stand between Guybrush and glory.

Banter with old friends and new faces on familiar islands now under dangerous new leadership.

Context-sensitive interactions, reactive dialog trees, and an easy-to-use inventory system make pirating a breeze.

Then, take to the high seas and explore the new and unknown as you work your way out of tough predicaments.
