- The app was able to identify the mushrooms as "Penny Bun" mushrooms, which are highly prized.
There isn’t even a free trial that you don’t have to sign up for
Tell me upfront it cost money. Stuff on the internet is free. Stop wasting my time.
I took a picture of the mushroom. I got a result. It didn’t look like the photo and the information provided was very difficult to sift through. I figured it out myself on Google by searching images of common mushrooms in my area.
You will be charged immediately upon agreeing to a 3-day “free trial” as I was charged the same day within 2 hours of accepting the trial offer. I’ve requested a refund by Apple which was denied so unless you want to deal with this type of headache-bypass MushroomID and look at others. This is a straight up SCAM.
I selected the “one-time use” option, and it still wouldn’t show me the results until I agreed to connect my card for a 3-day trial. Sorry, but I’m not willing to accidentally pay for a $30 membership just to see if this one mushroom in my yard might be poisonous. I know it says free trial, but I’m seeing other reviews claiming they got charged anyway, even after canceling within minutes. I’m out. How do you know it’s worth linking your card if you can’t even see the results first?
MushroomID can identify correctly SOMETIMES. It seems MushroomID mostly run on guest work and normally it will just tell you the general family belong to it’s almost never specific and when it is specific it is most definitely wrong. MushroomID would be worth it even if it was free don’t even waste your time with the free trial. I downloaded it because I thought the idea of technology identifying mushrooms is cool, however I have also spent time studying mushrooms myself and I am not mycologist but MushroomID gets confused even by the simple types of mushrooms that even amateur enthusiasts can recognize with ease.
It simply doesn’t work if you do not sign up for so-called free trial.Just say it’s paid app upfront.
How often do you think people need to identify mushrooms? I just wanted to know if something growing in the dog park was safe for the dogs.
You have to sign up for a subscription to use just once. Don’t waste your time with this one. Plenty of other apps that are actually free to use
All features behind a paywall. Not actually free. Couldn't identify a single mushroom without paying for this overpriced app. I have a plant one thats much cheaper and doesn't have everything behind a paywal
I needed a quick identification because i want my dogs to stay safe. Saw a mushroom that I couldn’t identify. The fact i have to pay monthly for a one time thing to make sure my pups are safe is outrageous.
Downloaded for curiousness while hiking. Nothing worked without paying. Options to choose from camera roll pretends to search for a match but the only match it brings up is for a subscription. Why label it as free in App Store when it’s not.
Got 6-7 different results for the very same mushroom! How is that helpful at all? How would that ensure someone doesn’t eat a poison mushroom? What a complete waste of money. Got MushroomID , got the crazy mixed results mentioned above and then cancelled app within 30 minutes. Asked for a refund and was ignored.
Paid for it, now it won’t connect. Not sure what happened but neither MushroomID nor the website to ask for app support will connect.
They told me I had a 3 day trial and then charged me immediately to install MushroomID . I was also told that each picture I took was the same mushroom. None of my pictures were the one they claimed them to be. Each picture was a different specimen. MushroomID is not accurate nor is it honorable of its free trial offer. I have had MushroomID for an hour and have been unable to cancel my subscription that I did not intend or desire to purchase. Do not recommend!
Can’t identify anything until you SIGN UP for a 3 day not so free yearly recurring AUTORENEW account.
Was tried multiple times on known species and continuously misidentified them. Even attempted identification of ideal specimens of common store-bought mushrooms with no success. MushroomID needs a lot of work.
I just wanted to try MushroomID out and I only used it for about 30 seconds and they billed me for a year even though I immediately cancelled my subscription. It cannot identify mushrooms.
the map thing that shows you different mushrooms nearby seems decent, can’t confirm cuz im not driving like an hour to see if there’s mushrooms there. if u wanna identify what mushrooms you’ve found you need to pay and that’s all I downloaded MushroomID for. wouldn’t recommend
MushroomID gave me no helpful information
Anything outside of common mushroom gets pretty much miss labeled, if there is a way to add more than one photo profile to a mushroom id, it’s not obvious. I had the same mushroom analysis 4 times with three different results, all of which ended being incorrect. Do not trust MushroomID for foraging, it’s a liability. At best it can help confirm your own identification, but still recommend against this. The most useful part is the list of species where you can compare their notes on different species and the lookalikes.
Have to be in cell service range. Colorado doesn’t have remote services. I am sticking to identification books for now.
I have these large mushrooms that come up in my yard occasionally. Knowing nothing about mushrooms, I downloaded MushroomID to help identify them. I tried several times with multiple mushrooms and it always identified them as "Penny Bun" mushrooms (aka Porcini, King Bolete, etc), a highly prized mushroom. I started doing some research and concluded these are not Penny Buns, but False King Boletes - edible, but a far cry from Penny Buns. I feel like MushroomID should've been able to distinguish the difference.
Purchase a lifetime membership.
App either miss identifies or directs you to a general family grouping.
App picks up on many specific mushrooms that are easily identified anyway.
The worst part is there are many classifications that the description is incomplete or not started at all.
Some descriptions are vague and need further elaboration…
MushroomID gives a wrong identification of most fungi more frequently than correct ones. I wouldn’t recommend it as a tool for getting oriented to the world of mushrooms.
I dont like that you have a picture limit and theres not many articles and a free triale other than that i love it
❤️❤️❤️
Love MushroomID great to use while exploring the outdoors!
Great for beginner, easy to use and lots of information about the mushroom identified. I’m really enjoying it.

5 stars
So far MushroomID has been pretty accurate I’m pleased!
I just love all kinds of mushrooms. So I took to the woods with my new Mushroom app. Really cool! Some I knew but took pictures anyway. Then I found Honey Mushrooms and Aborted Entoloma mushrooms. Not sure if the Aborted ones are edible. But the Honey mushrooms were very good. Love MushroomID, you gotta get it!!
Great quick take to narrow down mushroom ID. This has about an 80% accuracy rate, which is pretty darn good for an app; good enough to send me to the right place in my references. As we know, NEVER assume any app is correct; always check with reliable sources, do a spore print, and all the other things before making a positive ID.
Question for developer: Will you consider allowing Family Sharing for MushroomID? I want to educate my family about these wonderful gifts from Gaia and their having MushroomID via Family Sharing would help tremendously. Thanks.
