Thursday, March 5, 2026 was the day I decided it was time to get back in shape. After recently retiring, I wanted to explore the UFC Gym in Waikele, Oʻahu and see if joining might be possible for me. I wasn’t even sure I could afford a membership on my new limited income, but I thought it was worth asking about. I arrived feeling excited and motivated. The representative who greeted me was fantastic. He gave me a tour of the facility, explained everything thoroughly, and made me feel encouraged about improving my fitness rather than just going through the motions. Eventually we started discussing the financial options. I explained that since I had just retired, I needed to think very carefully before committing to anything. He presented a couple of plans, and one seemed very affordable for me. He told me that if I paid $299 for the year, it would average out to about $25 per month, with an additional $60 annual fee due after 60 days. I was thrilled and immediately said, “Let’s do it!” We both laughed, and he sat me down at a computer to begin entering my information. While I was filling out the form, he was having trouble pulling up the offer in the system, so he went to his manager for assistance. A few minutes later he returned and explained that the offer had expired, and that corporate had not informed the team at that location. I was honestly shocked and extremely disappointed. After getting me excited about joining and starting my fitness journey, I was suddenly told that the offer was no longer available. The manager on duty said she texted the district manager to ask about honoring the offer, but the response was dismissive: “Nope, it’s not offered anymore.” Having spent over 50 years in retail, I was stunned by how the situation was handled. In my experience, when a customer is presented with an offer, it should be honored—especially when the misunderstanding was clearly internal. I could not understand how this happened or why there was no effort made to accommodate what had been promised to me. Instead of leaving excited about starting a fitness journey, I walked away feeling incredibly disappointed. I did not include the names of the employees who helped me, as they seemed just as surprised and frustrated as I was when the offer disappeared from the system. Unless this situation is addressed, I will likely share my experience publicly so others are aware of how situations like this are handled. At the very least, an apology or some form of accommodation would have gone a long way. Unfortunately, I will now be looking for other gym options—even though I had hoped to join the facility closest to home.

It would be nice to have checkin history, would be nice to filter classes and what about all the point accumulated for checking in? Is there not a point system anymore? The old app is more user friendly. Hopefully this new app catches up.
