This had so much potential. It’s a waste of data and time.

The paid tours are just random items it takes you too. No cohesion. Each of the features doesn’t provide any additional information than what is printed there already. Usually it provides less. I was hoping this would expand upon the experience of this museum, but it was very dissatisfying. Also the Musuem has slow wifi and bad cell coverage so things load slowly and then glitch because it doesn’t preload the audio and images before playing.

Audio cuts out or doesn’t play

We downloaded the top 10 audio track. Sometimes the audio plays but quickly stops playing. Then you can’t hear anything anymore. I have only been able to hear about 10% of the audio content. We are on the museum Wi-Fi. The content is not pre-buffered. The museum is packed today. So maybe on a quiet day, BritishMuseumAudio might work better.

List of objects with no directions to find them

What a waste of time. Each tours gives great detail on a list of objects yet there’s no way to find them. I even went to the info desk hoping they might have a map to accompany BritishMuseumAudio but they do not. It was suggested that I ask museum staff where each object is located. Really?? That would take forever. Don’t buy this. It’s a waste of money.

Did not work well

Downloaded and paid for BritishMuseumAudio before arriving. Connected to WiFi when I arrived and BritishMuseumAudio did not play anything! I think the cell service and the WiFi was too weak for BritishMuseumAudio to work, it was so frustrating! I used the map, but it would have been easier to use a paper map. BritishMuseumAudio had zero use for us!

Worst museum app I’ve ever used

Purchased the tours package, took the 10 Highlights tour and I was confused as it doesn’t guide you where to go next. Had to leave the tour section to head to the map section and then restart from there. There’s poor reception in some areas of the museum and the tour would not run, not even using the museum’s free wifi. Very frustrating.

Do not download!!!!

This is by far the worst app I have ever had the misfortune of downloading, the tours they have not only cost money but when you do buy them they are poorly made and not at all informative or interesting, they sound the like the tour for every boring museum ever! It is waste of time and space on your phone.

Terrible App

If you’re looking to find out anything about the collection, don’t waste your time with BritishMuseumAudio. There’s precious little information to be found and everything seems to be behind a paywall. Seems appropriate that a culture that stole artifacts from cultures around the world would stoop to a cheap money grab.

Does not work

Even if you pre-download all of the content this does not work in most galleries. Museum employee told us the Wi-Fi is poor throughout the museum. Don’t waste your time and money.

Don’t bother and don’t pay

Inconsistent audio, hard to follow, no mapping and the highlights tour doesn’t match the one on the maps. Should include a 2x speed button.

Poor audio tour

Very confusing audio your. Many items not currently on display. Disappointed

Can’t download inside Museum

This is a horrible app

Needs work

BritishMuseumAudio professes to give tours. I tried two of them, each of which is merely an assortment of objects throughout the museum—no directions to these objects, written or narrated. So you must toggle between the map and room numbers shown in icons next to the objects; once in a designated room, you’ll need to hunt for the object itself. Rooms are large, so you’ll spend much more time searching maps and rooms than you will learning from the recordings.

BritishMuseumAudio also isn’t updated, per current conditions. If an object you’re seeking via BritishMuseumAudio is on loan to another museum or the room you’re supposed to visit is closed for renovation, you won’t know it until you walk there.

I suggest skipping BritishMuseumAudio and taking a guided tour on-site. The museum has many incredible assets, but its app is not one of them.

Horrible app

BritishMuseumAudio took forever to load and constantly malfunctioned. The wifi network dedicated to BritishMuseumAudio was down. It would be much better if BritishMuseumAudio allowed you to download the audio clips instead of trying to stream them inside the museum.

Pay up or get out

I tried several stops but always got the lock symbol for the paid app. Don’t bother downloading unless you’re buying the upgrade...though it does have a map of the museum, saving £2 for a paper copy.
