The last update changed what is advertised. The preview window on the black screen can no longer be removed. Defeats the purpose of the whole app. There is also now an issue with video mode. App is freezing after the first video. I paid for Discreet and I want what I paid for. It was good in the beginning but the most recent update is making me not recommend it due to not working as advertised. Please fix it to what it should be.

Initially Discreet was amazing, and it did wonders in both free version and the paid one. However, as of the most recent update, they removed some of the most useful features, like the ability to enable previews or change the image that’s on the camera. Now there’s no option regarding the preview, there’s always a preview now, and there’s no option to change the image on the camera either. Their most recent update regarding apples policies might’ve had something to do with it, still, it’s ridiculous. It’s now not as this app as it should be. It’s unfortunate because it’s a great app as well.

Discreet WOULD be excellent for capturing domestic violence situations without alerting your abusive family member that you are recording. Unfortunately the gesture for turning video recording on and off is the same (tap the screen once to begin recording and once again to end recording) so it’s impossible to know whether you are recording or not as the tense situation unfolds. In such a situation is just not possible to take your eyes off the situation and check your screen. To be useful, the gesture for turning the recording on and off needs to be different; perhaps swiping up over 2/3rds of the screen would turn the recording on and swiping down would turn it off, and repeat swiping in the same direction would have no effect so you could swipe up several times and be assured that it is recording. Otherwise as I have unfortunately experienced, the whole situation can be over and you find that the only part you recorded was a few seconds that didn’t even matter.

I found a way to contact Discreet author, and he may be able to address my concern… if so, I will change my review to a full 5 stars.

As I couldn’t find a way to contact the developer, I’m using the review to give some suggestions, both are for iPhones. More specifically 15ProMax

1. Add the option to delete a photo or even make small editing options like cropping and changing orientation while viewing a photo you have taken. The only option to delete is when you look at all the photos at once.

2. It’s awkward to hold the camera in a way to get the photos you want while tapping the screen. While Discreet is open it would be nice to take photos by pushing either the up/down volume buttons.

If these additions were made to Discreet , I would quickly upgrade, but for now, I will just be using free features or looking for another app.

I’ve been using Discreet for a long time now, but only recently after the new update, the video seems to be very very blurry and a bit laggy on 1x zoom as well as the rest except 0.5x. Everything was fine before the update, not sure if I’ll continue using Discreet ) : Please fix this problem.

Apparently in the latest update you changed the preview setting to not allow the full black screen due to “Apple Policies.” I understand there is probably nothing you can do about this as the developer if it is an apple requirement, but I would like a refund as it is no longer a “black screen camera” as advertised. Don’t copy and paste the same response about contacting technical support, I would like a reply that shows you understand and care about the customers who have paid for your app. I really enjoyed using it and now it is basically useless. Thank you.

I installed the latest version 1.7.3 of Discreet . every time I opened up Discreet , it will be crashed immediately ,so I was unable to use Discreet. My phone is iPhone14promax with iOS 16.6. could you fix this bug as soon as possible please ,thank you !

The issue I've got is that apparently if you hit the Lock Screen button mid recording it closes without saving. My suggestion is repurpose the button to save while recording is in progress so that the recording isn't lost. Would be a 5* app with that fix

I am trying to record but if phone call comes through I lose video.

Also if in my pocket and it bumps it stops without recording.

Would love to see it record in real time and if it gets turned off it keeps whatever had been recorded.

I am not a fan of the showing the video while recording. The point of this is to be able to record and show them that my phone is not recording. This only happened recently as the front of my screen shows what is recording in a small view. Only being nitpicky otherwise best app I have come across except for my accidental pushing of the stop recording button when I didn’t mean too lol.

Discreet is this app just as it says. Can record video with a black screen up. Video quality is good and it saves to a private gallery. Getting in an out of recording is easy. For some reason the video stabilization feature will not stay turned on though when I turn it on in settings.

Hey developers been loving Discreet!
Just got two quick things for you.

1. When recording video I have 4k 60 fps selected, but once exported to photo library exif info is saying it’s recording in 30fps. So toggle may be broken.

2. A great potential feature would be a toggle to override the screen lock while using app . That way when using Discreet I don’t have to remember to go back to my phone settings to turn off/on my auto lock. Also saves on frustration when you do forget, your phone lock and it auto stops the recording.

Discreet is genuinely useful. It is wonderfully simplistic and easy to use. You can use your camera in complete private without the embarrassment of getting caught taking pictures or videos. It is some thing I never knew I until I heard about it from someone. Highly recommend.

Easily the best app I downloaded and upgraded to Pro in 2024 - I am often in 45 minute to 1 hour-plus meetings with presenters and while audio is great, being able to film the meetings and see the presentations put on screen and projectors is game changing! There’s no distraction or my phone battery draining like it would with a regular recoding - also, when I have other people sitting next to me, the camera doesn’t distract or bother - so relaxing and I have hour-plus meetings all stored and easily goes into my Photos collections for me to refer to and see. Love Discreet and one of my favorites. I noticed some people saying it’s hard to tell when it’s recoding but there is a green dot showing and the Pro mode also allows a preview setting to show what’s being filmed if needed. 5/5 app! Love it.

Discreet works flawlessly on the iPhone and it works on the IPAD. I had private galley on by accident on the IPAD Pro , and its not allowing me download the video. I dont have the same issue when recording into private gallery on the iPhone. Is there any way you can help me figure out how to export the video? Thank you!

Discreet is great, but why did you add the little preview camera. Also, the black screen used to get so dark it’d look like your phone was OFF. Now it’s just a BRIGHT black screen and there’s really bad and obvious preview camera window at the bottom.

It would be nice to have a feature that allows changing the black screen to an actual wallpaper, with the clock as an option. It's basically your wallpaper lock screen.

I love Discreet, many good features and great accessibility, but could you make it so it’s easier to scroll between frames? I used to have a bit older IOS (IOS 15) and it had a completely different video player where you could hold the playback bar and raise your finger higher while holding down to get a finer scrolling/scrubbing speed. It’s harder to find a specific part of a long video now with this new playback. Maybe it could be added as an extra setting?

Before downloading Discreet , I was not aware the video feature was only available once your purchase the “pro” version. HOWEVER, In my opinion I believe it was worth every penny, thanks to Discreet I was able to successfully film pranking my little brother.

The only complaint I would have is that for iPhone users who have the slide bar, it shows very faintly on the bottom of the black screen which could potentially defeat the whole purpose of being this app. Hopefully the developer could solve this issue though I personally don’t think it’s TOO much of a big deal.

It shows a little screen at the bottom instead of a full black screen like it used to. And I paid for the full version not worth the download or money.
