Great forensic 3D mapping App for Apple products

This is a great app for iPhones and iPads that have the LIDAR functionality. While you can use targets to enhance the accuracy, I’ve found that it’s accurate enough for most of my 3D reconstruction cases “right out of the box”! That makes this an amazing tool for many forensic metrology applications at a price point significantly lower than traditional field laser scanning tools.
It gets better with every release so I always look forward to regular improvements and additional functionality.
This is a great App at a great price, well worth my investment!!
Accurate Forensic Scanning in your Pocket

The Recon 3D app leverages sensor fusion, LiDAR, and photogrammetry to turn the iPhone 13 Pro into a 3D scanner that provides a highly accurate 3D model for forensic analysis. The fact that it is possible to accomplish such a task with a smartphone is insane. I’m not to the point where I will use it as a standalone scanner, but I’m getting close. A few more improvements to make the scanning process more robust and responsive and Recon 3D may replace my tripod laser scanner for many scan jobs.

Best Forensic Scanning App

No other app on the market compares to Recon3D. The data is accurate, and because of the sensor fusion, produces a point cloud that isn’t fuzzy like other apps. The data is some of the best handheld scan data I’ve seen and rivals some structured light handheld scanners on the market. The processing time is getting faster and the file sizes are very manageable. I can’t wait to see where this app goes from here!
