Needs more development…

…especially after being delayed for so many months, this wasn’t the product I was expecting. I’m fine with only Sketchfab integration for a free app, but the photogrammetry algorithms need serious work. I did a test on my YETI water bottle on a bright floor with 50 photos in good lighting conditions, and the resulting mesh had the top and bottom of the bottle but completely left out the middle 60 percent. Also, I don’t know why this is seemingly being limited to only photos. Unleash the LiDAR scanners on the Pro model phones and iPads. Seems like a no-brained and other scanning apps already do it. I’m a devoted fan of Epic, Unreal Engine, RC, and especially Twinmotion, and this initial release of this app is a huge letdown. I really hope you turn this around and really put more thought into the product, because it’s not yet at the level of quality people have come to expect from Epic. I’m giving two stars instead of one because the makings of something great are there, and it needs more thought and building out. Looking forward to seeing you guys bring it.

I LOVE this app and use it for pro stuff

I’m an Unreal Engine Technical Artist who creates new short films and virtual production tools for other real-time creators weekly and RealityScan is absolutely a part of my pipeline. What I scan is never my final product. It’s a fantastic starting point. It’s a scan that’s fast, easy and extremely shareable with others. Whether I’m using it to scan toys and rig them so I can animate them or if I’m scanning a piece of furniture at a store, so I can see what it would look like in my house, I constantly find new uses. I am seeing a lot of bad reviews, but I am not seeing a lot of outside of the box thinkers. This is different. Sure, there are other apps that can scan, but this is just different. I don’t work for epic, nor do I have any special interest to make this look better than the rest but I personally love RealityScan and it’s only going to get better. Congrats on the launch team! I can’t wait to see how it progresses.

Failure to Launch

As a metaverse developer I feel like RealityScan holds a great deal of promise, but when you can’t even get past the login screen, it really is a dealbreaker. Clicking the login button just spins and spins. Disappointing.

Confusing UX and scan results not great

Of all the photo scanning apps Ive tried this is one of the hardest to use, even though I am an experienced scanned. - couldnt figure out how to end a session and the AR crop is super awkward. The preview functionality is a nice idea, but in practice it is not helpful and jumps around. Also they force you to make a Sketchfab account in addition to a this app account. Reality Capture is good for desktop processing, but if you are looking for an easy to use mobile app I would look elsewhere.

Needs lot more work

Interface and method of capture is interesting/neat (has a ghost of where you took your shots and a live crop), but the final output is inadequate. Other photogrammetry apps put this to shame in its current state…and that’s taking less than half of the photos with the other app… I hope they are able to get outputs that do not require perfect lighting and subject as other apps have gotten around this issue. Hope it does well in the long term.

Rather mixed experience

The way how the application is intended to be used is great - the ability to see where the photos are and where more are needed is super ! But the meshing quality is very noisy and it seems often I am stuck in waiting for cloud / aligning images I find other photogrammetry solutions run here much smoother !

By

Love it

It’s an early development, but I feel RealityScan holds great potential as more features get added into it. I found it very simple to use!

By

I really wanted to like this app

I love photogrammetry and I really appreciate that RealityScan is available for free, but it needs a lloooottt of work it to be more useable in the real world. Best of luck to the devs!

Failed to sign in

I am able to sign into my epic games account via the webpage, however when switched back to RealityScan it says failed to sign in, for no obvious reason. Please help.

By

So cool and useful!

Can’t wait to use this with 3d printer!

By

Can’t log in

I’m not sure why this hasn’t been fixed yet. A lot of people are having this issue with 2 factor Auth codes not working.

By

Slow and unreliable

Other 3D scan apps outperform RealityScan in terms of speed and usefulness. Additionally login/ set up was lengthy

By

No

For all the hype, this falls way short. Old tech, lack of UX, and not clear direction. Epic fail IMO

By

Can’t login with epic games account

RealityScan needs to update, can’t login no matter how many time I am trying to verify the images.

By

Needs A Lot of Work

This feels like it’s still in beta phase. I wasn’t able to produce anything usable with RealityScan .

By

Share My Info Before One Use?

How dare you put up wall for acess to your app demanding my personal information first! How hypocritical.

By

Unable to sign in

Unable to sign in and make a Epic account and can’t use app

By

pretty good, but needs a landscape mode. nobody uses an ipad in portrait mode and you know that.

Can’t login

Can’t login to RealityScan . Fix your app, Sweeney.

Restriction for Iran!

Restrictions are for the governments not for the Iranian people !!!
Is this the human rights????
We’re sorry for you

Good app but needs work

Really need to open this up to more images and also the ability to record and extract images. don’t hold the data for yourself, let the images store to local so we can do extra processing if we want. Last thing, when editing the output, allow us to remove extra images that we don’t want or need. Other than the above, love RealityScan and really holds true to the desktop version of reality capture

Revolutionary Piece of Software!!!

RealityScan works great and puts out amazing results once you get the hang of it. I tried Reality Scan with both an iPhone 11 and iPhone 14 pro max and the new phones definitely give a better and smoother experience but with enough patience you can still get great results no matter the device. My only issue is the 200 photo limit when trying to scan large objects, if there was a monthly premium with a higher photo limit I’d definitely get it.

By

Hoped for better, useful for those without lidar

I would just like the next update to incorporate autocapture so we don’t have to constantly tap the screen to take pictures.

Also it would be really nice to be able to export the scan as an STL file… and not only that, but do it right from your phone and not have this tomfoolery of a third party to save to…

Hoping for more useful and consistent updates

One of the best 3D scanning apps

I’ve been getting great results capturing environments like my living room and backyard, then porting it to sketchfab and viewing it in VR. It’s currently one of the best ways to capture memories in 3d. Thank you devs for building this wonderful app!

By

Doesn’t even load

I’ve tried restarting my device. I’ve tried deleting RealityScan and reinstalling. But no matter what whenever I open RealityScan it just shows a black screen with a never ending loading wheel. As of this writing RealityScan has been loading for over 15 minutes and still NOTHING!

By

Not Good

I’m not sure if it’s just me, but to create a 3d image it requires you to take 20 pictures perfectly around the whole object. Not an easy task for me I can assure you . They should add the option to record the object, or creat lines to stay in sync with previous images like when using Pano on iPhone.

By

Never scans the intended object

Made several attempts to scan an object with different lighting and I could never get RealityScan to detect the intended object. Scanning requires at least 20 pictures; I gave it plenty more than that and it never detected anything other than the ground and the walls around the object.

By

Disappointed

Cannot find the images to export. Cannot simplify model or export project. This is basically useless without simple functionality.

By

Doesn’t work

Why release a broken product? Apple needs to step up and be more strict with companies allowing them to release apps that don’t even function properly.

By

Useless can’t tap to focus so scans come out terrible.

Like I said tap to focus does not work it seems like there is one focus point and that’s it weird for an app that needs pics from several angles and distances.

By

Underwhelmed

Maybe it was the hoopla with the epic games purchase, or the massively delayed roll out, but I expected so much more. I use another paid app which also processes in the cloud, but the resulting model is available to export directly to my phone in any format, yet that is hardly the deal breaker. The deal breaker is that with half the amount of images, in WORSE lighting conditions, the other app blows the results from this app out of the water. I mean, so far, I wouldn’t use a single result from RealityScan versus the other, and the one time purchase was clearly worth it. I’m not naming the other app so I don’t come across as some paid shill, which should tell you everything you need to know. RealityScan needs serious work. The cropping alone is insufficient, which requires that the ground be included as part of the scan, whereas several other apps allow you to literally erase all parts of the scene/model you do not want and then recenters and orients correctly. That’s a small issue compared to other complaints I have. Please go back to the drawing board and charge if you have to. Look at some of the other photogrammetry apps for inspiration, you desperately need it.

By

Doesn’t accept remote release

It does work well for creating a model but seems to have a lot to be developed. Especially when you are taking photos in a long distance, you will face an issue because it doesn’t accept the remote release, usually “Volume up” signal is used through a Bluetooth connection. Hope this function will be added in the next version.

Best Mobile Photo-Scans

Hands down the best app for doing photogrammetry with your phone.

By

Unusable. Run.

It is mind-boggling how difficult they make it to log into this and any Epic Games resources for people trying to just create content on their phones and PCs. How can you possibly hope to use any of these tools proficiently if you can’t even login to use them consistently like every other platform we all use every day on the Internet? The fact that epic games has never taken any of this seriously and lets their users struggle in forums, trying to figure out the most basic authentication problems gives me no confidence whatsoever in this product.

By

Easy and convenient!

Free app that provided solid results. It was pretty easy to use — even my parents were able to learn it :)

By

I can’t even login

Every time i try to open RealityScan it asks me to login. When i try to logon with my epic account it launches a webpage and then i don’t see any username/password panel. Then it closes and go back to the opening page and ask to login again. I can’t even search for this problem online because it is very weird.

By

Can’t even sign in to see the app, it locks up

I signed into my epic account, and it turned to a black screen with a rotating white loading wheel. First, I quit RealityScan , then I reinstalled it, and to my amazement. As soon as I opened, it, goes straight back to the same black screen with a white loading wheel. I haven’t even seen anything inside RealityScan yet.

By

It pretty good

It’s better than what it was before hand so Epic Games has been fixing the issues with app. I think RealityScan has potential Epic just needs to focus on it.
