App Needs Overhaul and Rendered Pointless by Tend Business Practices

The information in TendDental has been incorrect since my second visit when the dentist was able to do more work in one visit than originally planned. The front desk assured me that it was okay and seemed unbothered by TendDental having incorrect information. What’s the point of TendDental then? However, more frustrating is the inability to modify my appointments through TendDental . Each time I click on the option to make changes it tells me to call. Even for an appointment 12 days out. Also, my experience calling has not been great. One time I called to reschedule only to find out later that I was charged a no-show fee. After calling again and emailing a screenshot of my call history (don’t they have a call history?) I was able to get them to reimburse me. Most importantly, it was only after I became a patient did I discover that there is no way for me to call the office location or get in touch with the dentist directly. All calls are toured through a call center in Texas and emails through a general email inbox. For this reason alone I do not recommend Tend and will not be continuing as a patient after finishing my current treatment plan.

Negligent Dental Care

Decent app, poor dental service. This company is trying to bring corporate scalability to dental care, but that means that you will never have access to your dentist. They take more patients than they have time to provide care for. As an anecdote, I was forced to wait 2+ months for an emergency. Emails will be ignored, calls will be outsourced to non-medical receptionists who will not be able to help you. Do yourself a favor and get a traditional dentist. I’ve never seen a health care provider be as negligent as Tend.

Beyond disappointed in customer service

Tend is great for someone who has no issues and uses them for preventative care. The moment there are issues you can not get a hold of anyone to discuss concerns. I am considered out of network BUT I have estimates for procedures that state $0 and then 2 months AFTER treatment my card on file gets charged over $750 without ANY discussion short of an email stating it was going to happen, not whether that was ok to proceed. I don’t like writing reviews, but I have not been able to speak or find ANY contact information to discuss my concerns. Have had many different negative experiences, and no one is held accountable and no one contacts you when they say they will. Very disappointing to say the least! Will not be going back, still having issues following their treatment— now having multiple specialists correcting complications following my treatment with tend!

They don’t care about patients

On the day of my appointment I got a horrible stomach bug and was basically incapacitated throwing up constantly. I realized literally at the time of my appointment that I had missed it (again because I was throwing up I didn’t have much else on my mind and I have a huge vomiting phobia) and contacted them to explain the situation. They had no sympathy and charged me $250 for missing the appointment. I get that this is their policy but seriously? Apparently no exceptions can be made so make sure nothing that’s completely out of your control happens to make you miss your appointment. You get into a car accident on your way over? I guess you’ll be paying an extra $250 for your missed appointment on top of everything else.

Clueless

This company tries to be the next best thing since sliced bread, but they can’t even validate your insurance prior to your visit. I submitted my insurance card and information prior to my visit, and they confirmed they accepted it. They conveniently did not tell me they were NOT in network. So my insurance informed me they will only cover them as out of network—a measly $70. Which means my insurance really doesn’t cover it. Imagine being misled by your dentist, who claims that accepting your insurance doesn’t mean they’re in network. It just means they’ll take it as out of network. Why on earth would I choose about of network provider? That’s just as expensive as not having insurance at all.

Predatory dressed as modern convenience

App has very limited information. Only use is for booking appointments. But you can’t view bills with breakdowns on TendDental .

If you just want your annual cleaning thats covered by your insurance its a great place but be wary. They went ahead and gave me flouride without my knowledge and consent and surprise surprise its an extra service charging me an extra 60 bucks.

They also lack in communication with your insurance provider. Charging you an insane amount without knowledge that the insurance provider has already sent them a cheque. They also lure you into procedures saying that its covered only to be charged a few months later.

Deceptive practice

They conveniently assure you multiple times before providing a service that it is fully covered by insurance and that their staff at the front desk has checked that it is indeed covered. Then a year later, they email you a bill where insurance does NOT cover the treatment AT ALL. They’ve done this several times and provide zero assistance or even apology or acknowledgment on their end.

Profit Oriented

Tend tries to streamline and simplify dentistry with an app and convenient locations, but they fall short in both. They update locations without updating their app (e.g., my usual cleaning location now only does advanced services and did not warn me before I arrived for an appointment they then cancelled on me). They also over prescribe, like a several hundred dollar mouth guard for “grinding” that my new dentist (and former) does not say I need. Just a business with an app, not a caring dental provider.

No Agents available on the weekends?

I’m trying to move my appointment back a few days, and I’m within the 48 hour window to make these changes without paying the late fee, but I am unable to make the change on TendDental .

When I pressed the button to call the 1800 number, I was directed through a series of prompts that lead me to either get a call back or stay on the line. I chose to stay on the line, and not lose my place, when I was disconnected.

For a tech dental company, this process should be faster, easier, and more automated than currently operated. It’s annoying.

Surprise bills, horrible customer service

Initially had great experiences with the actual Tend dental practice I went to. Now, I keep getting surprise bills from Tend (corporate) from visits 8 months - 2 years ago. From what I understand they got a new billing system and are re-processing old bills. I’m being charged for things that the actual office told me they’d cover. Getting conflicting statements from the bills vs. customer service. The corporate customer service is hard to get ahold of, unresponsive, unprofessional, unhelpful, and has 0 empathy. I no longer recommend Tend to anyone and I’ve gone elsewhere.

Great in person, horrible use of tech

This company has great people working in the locations themselves, but their business operates like a start-up and is poorly managed. They are impossible to reach via phone, you can only email a support center that has no direct knowledge of you or your care plan. I was supposed to receive a call/text from them when the dentist spoke with my orthodontist (both work at Tend) and over 2 weeks later I'm still waiting for that call.

They also force you to confirm your appointment or threaten that they will give it away "to another member" while telling you they're also gonna charge you a no-show fee if you miss it. I'm not sure what planet giving away my appointment = charge me for not showing up. Not the most logical.

It's a shame because their branding and, again, in person experience have been great. Unfortunately their lack of a patient-centric approach will be their undoing.

Unprofessional.

Unprofessional and deceptive. Repeatedly confirmed with the front desk that they accepted my insurance, went over costs, and didn’t find out otherwise until they charged me hundreds of dollars more after I got home. You never know what dentist you’re going to see until you are in the chair and they will be different every time. They also relentlessly push selling their own brand of toothbrush on you. I’d be extremely cautious if you decide to get work done there.

Another greedy corporation

Just another greedy corporation who only has interest in maxing out your insurance & digging into your pockets. If they ever had it, they lost the compassionate human touch. I feel like I am always squeezed into three appt’s at once while the Dr’s and assistants juggle three people/procedures at once. Not straight forward with costs and when they cant rip your insurance off, you get the bill. Find a nice local dentist that takes your insurance if you can, at least then you can work with someone… not an operator in a call center.

Good idea, but in reality very basic & clunky

TendDental doesn’t list my past visits though I’ve had two. You’d think it would have more info in the “my mouth” tab like X-rays, photos & other info gathered in visits. I had a procedure & didn’t receive any aftercare instructions & that’s another thing I’d think was on TendDental , but isn’t. It doesn’t list who my hygienist or dentist was in pass visits for reference. It doesn’t project a next cleaning visit with any recommended timeline. It really is only good for booking, which would be just as easy online.

Not properly working

While having TendDental for dentist is convenient tool to manage my dentist appointments and treatment plans. App is not working properly. It closes by itself when logging in, takes sometimes longer than a phone call wait to log in.
If those bugs can be fixed. It Can be great tool.

Scheduling

Was at the UWS office for the first time last week and needed to make 2 separate appointments for cavity fillings. I scheduled both appointments with the front desk for 2 separate dates, however when I left the office I received confirmation texts that were the wrong dates for what I was scheduled for. When I called to fix these appointments I was sent to a calling service to fix the appointment dates. The women who was helping me fix these dates was very nice but confused on the appointment types I needed. It would be easier to talk to the front desk of the office to schedule appointments.

Great service, spotty app

Tend itself is an amazing dental service. But the scheduling is buggy. When I try to reschedule an appt it connects to my local Tend, but whether it’s on TendDental or website the connection fails and I’m forced to call. I’ve tried on multiple WiFi’s and it just spins. So other than that 100% would recommend. No judgement, not paid by the service but salary so there is not any overselling, super friendly staff and the perks to make you feel as comfortable as possible.

Slick and easy! Just like everything else at tend😁

Now seeing my favorite dentist is even easier. Love being able to do everything right from my phone.

Excellent Service and Beautiful Office

My experience was beyond amazing! From how beautiful and luxurious the office is to the wonderful service, I loved every bit! Now I am so excited to go to the dentist. Thanks Tend, Carmen and Dr. Davis for such a great visit!

Rave review

Had a perfectly wonderful experience at Tend this morning. They were incredibly punctual, pleasant and efficient. Dr. Lee with her assistant, Barbara took care of filling a cavity. I admired their kindness, professionalism, and courtesy. A wonderful and painless experience.
