Usage has great potential especially since there is a menu bar widget. However, everything that you can see in Usage for free, you can see in Activity Monitor. However, if you’d prefer to pay $35 to be able to access the statistics of YOUR computer, then maybe it might be good. However, when you download Usage , it will say “Click here to get more features for FREE”. When you click on this link, it will prompt you to install a “Helper”. Once this is all installed and you have scripts that you cannot control running behind the scenes on your Mac, it STILL doesn’t give you any new features. Even though it says you get some free features, you don’t. I would RECOMMEND just using the Activity Monitor.
The initial “free” features look great, very interesting! But the $35 price tag gives me pause as Apple no longer gives App Refunds. Also of note, why offer a blanket price for all applications IF THEY DO NOT HAVE AN IPAD OR IPHONE APP? It would be nice IF they allowed you a peak at what it could do in addition to the free features to motivate you to spend the bucks. Uses low system resources for what it does, seems stable, and the graph at the top is informative and easy to change. I have had network issues, and it is nice to be able to see the current send/receive MB/s.
iStat menus was getting too heavy. so far enjoying it more than others everything what i need to keep eye on. awating future refinements. is there a way to make start up window and dock icon not appear at logon?
Update: thank you for prompt response. I would love to give it 5 stars but here are few reasons I cant justify more stars.
1] app is advertised as system activity monitor, yet it lacks proccess and network activity details which is defaut in other apps. (with helper tools installed)
like what proccess is taking bandwith or cpu this app.
2] Other apps with more functionality costs half or even less. (one is 5 bucks and other is 10)
3] for me external IP address only worked once, after that never shows external IP even after multiple reboots. (would be useful for people with VPN)
so yes eventually when app gets there i will update it to 5 stars.
The best part is I can see my iPhone/iPad/Macbook Air status from either one of my device, and the history!
It will be perfect and 5 stars if the developer can migrate the old-this app widget to this new this app, because the old-this app network status allow us to select the first date of our mobile billing cycle which can help us to understand our this app better, the this app-Connection status can also let us know how much is the current bandwidth this app.
It is worth the money compared with istat menu, its a great app but Mac only.
The program offers a lot of helpful information pertaining to your Macintosh. One issue involves bluetooth connectivity with third party bluetooth devices. Usage recognizes Apple bluetooth connectivity with both the mouse and keyboard, but fails to recognize third party bluetooth devices like my Logitech mouse, keyboard, and Edifier speakers. Any advice would be helpful. Otherwise, I am enjoying the program.
I used iStat Menus for several years and had a good experience with it, but over time I grew hungry for a UI overhaul. The interface of this app is much more modern-feeling with a nice purple theme, but overall it doesn't display nearly as much useful information as I'm accustomed to.
I'd love to be able to expand the stats that this app displays; for example:
1. Hovering over Battery Level to reveal current power draw, charging current, etc.
2. Hover over CPU temp monitor to reveal temps of other sensors.
3. Hover over Fan Speed indicator to reveal manual fan controls.
4. Ability to manually reset network data this app meter.
Generally expanded functionality would be a nice thing to have. That said, I'm loving Usage and find it to be a decent replacement for iStat, even though it may not be enough for all users.
Interface is great for the most part. Very nice graphics. The popover menu is really nice compared to some other options I tried.
Network monitoring stopped working recently. I think maybe since updating to Ventura. It's no longer autodetecting what network connection I'm using, and even if I set it manually to wifi it still doesn't register anything. It thinks I'm disconnected from the network completely. I'd really like to see that get fixed, since it's nice to keep an eye on network this app.
Usage is great and I seldom pay for apps but I put in the $15 for the lifetime Pro version and it's well worth the upgrade.
One feature it's missing and that would be very useful for me is a quick way to view the Wattage when charging. I use various chargers and travel a lot and it'd be useful for me to see what Wattage I'm getting without having to go into the System Report.
Really helpful in terms of seeing a whole lot of information about your computer with little to no effort. Very detailed about battery life, cycles and overall very informative. Reason I downloaded was to see what tempature I was running at. Unfortunately you need to become a pro member in order to see the tempature from celsius to fahrenheit. Super lame but got me to subscribe. Reason I am giving a 4/5, no option to add the tempature directly to the menu bar. Once and if this gets added, I will personally change the rating. Overall, good job to the developer, very easy to use and understand, just a little more and you'll have a perfect app. Really wish apple allowed 4.75/5 stars.
Was looking for a way to monitor network traffic/this app in aggregate, was surprised to find that the Mac didn't have a way to do this built-in. I like how configurable the this app app is, all i really have it do is show up/down traffic and total day's aggregate data use in the Mac title bar. It can do much more than that, however. Nice app! Bought the pro version mainly to help the developer out.
Wanted to wait a few weeks before writing a review, but this was well worth the few bucks as I was up and running very quickly with the important stats I wanted to see! I was running BOINC and wanted to see how hot I was running my Mac. This came through super useful. Only a few small mods I might ask for such as higher resolution for network I/O if possible (1sec). The current max resolution is OK but I prefer to see when I’m peaking out and the current res doesn’t quite cut it. Otherwise A+ product!
I really enjoy the simplistic nature of this app. You add what you want to see in your menu bar and in your dropdown window (when you click on it), save it, and your done. It does the rest and then you can see what you want, when you want to view it.
It would be amazing if the developers were to release a version where you can add each of the available individual monitoring components as a widget to the desktop. This would enable users to more easily actively monitor the stuff they want and then keep an eye on what they don't need up in the menu bar.
It's almost overwhelming how much information this gives you about your computer The customizable menubar looks great, and you can choose the interval for how often it updates numbers on each meter so you can prevent your system from being bogged down from it's background activity if you need to. I didn't know which app to chose but it's worth spending a few dollars for the full experience. Good software developed by good people. I miss apps like this and feel like a kid again now that I have it!
I can't say enough good things about this app app! I had an idea for a widget, and they responded to me so quickly and enthusiastically. They took my concept and brought it to life with amazing efficiency.
The Mount Volume widget they created is a game changer! It displays all my hard drives and shows how much space is available, which saves me a ton of time. It’s incredibly user-friendly and works flawlessly.
If you’re looking for innovative solutions and top-notch customer service, look no further. Highly recommend!
Nice, Clean. Loves how it syncs all three of my Apple Devices. IPhone MacBook and Mac Studio. Does not have all the features of others in this area, however its very, very clean. One thing i am missing is the power this app. On my other Stats app it would display the Wattage of what my Mac Studio was pulling. That would be awesome, also would be awesome to have a widget with a breakdown of CPU, Memory, Network, and Disk in one Widget.
First at all, I never leave reviews so this is my first one after being a macos user for years.
I love Usage since is simple to use and understand and give all the information that I need at the moment, the best part it's the support, Oleh have been super responsive when it come to contact him for any issue, super fast, 100% recomended.
As a developer who is always managing system resources, Usage is great for keeping a quick eye on things. Some suggestions below.
I would love more data within the popover widgets. Example: List the top processes using the most memory. Imagine being able to tap a quit/re-launch icon for hung apps. Or which app(s) is consuming the most traffic.
The config UI is really nice, I would add a confirmation on close if the user forgot to tap save.
Accessing the config should live within the gear menu to avoid requiring users to mystery tap
I would love some color in the menu bar, such as a green to red gradiant for the under load bars, or something else to break up the white.
If you like to have performance dashboards for memory, processor, network, and storage loads, Usage is great. I personally put the widgets in the panel to the left of the home screen so they’re just a swipe away. I use this on my iOS devices as well as Macbook Pro and Mac Mini. The cost of the paid version was well worth it for me.
I like the fact that I can customize what I need to see on my menu bar! The developer is also responsive and eager to fix bugs. I look forward to how Usage would evolve into in the near future.
Keep up the great work, dev! I also use your iOS this app app which has been working great so far.
As a former Windows user, I have always been baffled as to why Macs don’t have drive LEDs on their systems. I have older software that places a virtual LED light in the menubar (which I like a lot) However, it is older software and is apt to be retired at some point. Therefore, I would appreciate one in this app. I realize I could use Activity Monitor to check disk activity, that is a very clumsy method. Having a drive LED on the menubar is a much more convenient way to check drive status at a glance.
Also I would like the option to set colors for the individual items this app sets in the menubar based on thresholds (for example green/yellow/red to notate normal/caution/critical conditions) or plain white for all conditions (as they are now) based on user preferences.
As examples, if CPU temperature or this app, memory this app and/or free disk space pass certain thresholds, set the color based on them.
As for the disk LED if you chose to add one, I wold like it to be green when the drives are idle and red when they are in use. And, finally, perhaps the option for use one LED for all drives or individual LEDS for each drive via user choice.
