Chilling Reviews

Chilling is buggy. Chilling will crash every time I make or receive a phone call forcing me to go scroll back through pages of stories to be able to find my place again. There is no option for turning “Ambiance” off completely, and sometimes the volume and ambiance functions do not respond on screen. The volume of the narrators is too low, and I have to have my cars audio cranked to hear clearly. This gets annoying especially when a notification comes through and blasts my ear drums out. When I want to open Chilling back up and pick up where I left off, guess what, gotta scroll alllll the way through to find the last story I was on. Love the idea, needs work.

Chilling is still in its infancy from what I see and I think it’s doing a spectacular job at what it’s meant to do. I think the subscription cost is very fair and have no qualms paying the fee. There are a few additions I would love to see however, the main being more content, there is certainly quite a bit as is and I’m positive it will grow as Chilling grows but I feel as if it slightly lacks in quantity of content. I also would love a feature to search for stories by length, I do a lot of long drives and I ergo love long stories, switching between stories every 10-15 minutes can be a pain when I can’t find long ones so a “sort by” feature would be awesome, say “under 15m, 15-30m, 30m-1h, and 1h+” would be a fantastic addition. I need to use Chilling more but right off the bat those are some things I believe can be improved upon, once again however, the lack of quantity (not to be confused with quality) is something I feel will improve with age.

Update: I like what is available content-wise. I do wish this was a bit user friendlier?? I’d like the ability to listen to the one narrator or maybe a cluster of stories from them?? I figured out how to search by narrator however when you push play, it goes on to play stuff from different narrators in a queue I am afraid to try to access for fear of having to do the search yet again for the same narrators of choice.. I get the whole exposure to other voices n writers but I’d like to ability to just listen to 1 person if one desires. Thanks for having this awesome app!

I love Chilling so far. I know it’s just starting so the content isn’t as large but it’s still a pretty decent selection of voices. Only thing I’d like to change is the ability to save by artist instead of only episodes. :) LOVING Chilling ! Can’t wait to see how it blooms

Been an enthusiast of the nosleep/creepypasta horror podcast/video community since a decade ago. It’s my version of one of my grandma’s radio drama obsession and I don’t think I’ll stop anytime soon. Chilling satisfies this interest of mine a lot with the added bonus of being able to choose ambient noises to adjust whether I’m listening for work bg or for sleeping, etc. Also, it’s a much cheaper alternative to getting YT premium so I can have stories without sacrificing the function of my phone/device. It can be wonky sometimes and would be glad if there were more categories/groupings to choose from (i.e. Small Town, LGBT MC, etc.). Other than that, it’s a great app! Looking forward to you further growth and, hopefully, more narrators to add to the roster (hoping against all hope that Lighthouse Horror, Dark Somnium, Creepy Ghost Stories, and Doctor Plague will eventually become part of the team!).

I love Chilling! Now I can listen to stories without having to drain my battery because I have to play a video. I am visually impaired meaning that I use voice over the iPhone/iPad screen reader. As a result sometimes I have to ensure that the application is compatible with voiceover so that I’m able to enjoy the benefits that Chilling brings. Chilling is so close to being fully accessible I find it amazing. A few buttons are not labeled meaning that voiceover indicates that the button is not labeled properly. For example I am able to play a specific story or chapter of the story, but I am not able to pause the story using the normal command which would be called magic tap for voiceover and it’s when you tap with two fingers in Chilling to play or pause. Additionally I’ve turned on screen recognition which allows voiceover to attempts to figure out what the unlabeled button or images are I have had some luck with this feature. I am able to click on the ambience button to turn on or off the background sound such as the fire camp or the rain. It would be very beneficial for voiceover users if buttons were labeled properly to ensure that we are able to access Chilling without any complications.

I have some suggestions to improve the user’s experience. 1. When searching for an narrator and all their stories come up, naturally you chose one to listen to. When you arrow back to see more stories from the narrator, it takes you back to the Home Screen. The user has to search the narrator again. I would like to see the back arrow button take you back to just the narrator you searched for so one can easily choose another story from that narrator’s list 2. Have a separate list of favorite narrators on the side bar to choose from 3. Have an area where you can talk to others about the stories and what you interpret the story to mean. Any d bags get blocked from commenting. Civil discourse only. Narrators can have the option to be involved in the discussions or not Other than those things I love Chilling , especially the ambiance

this app is a fantastic horror app for anyone who likes to unwind with a scary story or two. They have a slice of everything horror related from classics such as Dracula and Frankenstein to true crime pieces to original stories and series programs. They even have horror inspired ambience tracks that can be played alongside the stories or completely by themselves to drift off with the sounds of a crackling fire or a dark, stormy night.

I only give them 4 stars here because they have some growing pains at the moment, which they no doubt can overcome. App wise, it seems to crash quite a bit on certain stories and the only way to fix it is to close Chilling and restart it. Design wise it’s a bit clunky, but I feel like they’re still finding their true vibe. Once they lean into their look and update Chilling style, this could easily become the horror lover’s version of Calm or Balance. Besides that, I would love to see some names within the horror community writing stories for them, which I’m sure they’re working on. The original series side of things is a direction I’d love to see them go for, and if they lean hard into new content, they could have a few hits on their hands.

Long story short, this app is a great horror story app with some room to grow. It’s definitely worth checking out if you’re into the more scary tinged stories, and I can’t wait to see what they do next.

I love Chilling so much ever since I got it. It’s really cheap and tells amazing stories. You could pick the background noise. I love it. it’s the best thing when I’m working I’m alone all day and it gets me through the hardest part but recently every time I go to click on a story it will take me to the one underneath it even if I do it with my pinky, it’ll take me underneath it and then when I go queue a story, it won’t be in there. It’ll go onto another one, but I have no interest in sometimes in that time and I have the background noise on low and when I exit Chilling and turn off my phone it’ll get really loud louder than it and I have to restart Chilling . It’s the other two that really annoy me because I don’t have time to be messing with my phone I just want to get to work, but those issues are make me want look for a new app, but I really really love Chilling and I think maybe if I told you guys you guys could look into it because it’s something that maybe you guys could fix really easily

I got it’s a few days ago, and love seeing some of my favorite horror narrators and the opportunity to find new ones. I would enjoy more customization with the ambiance, perhaps sliders with different sounds like heavy rain, thunder, howls/animal sounds, Fire, etc. for a spooky campfire experience, similar to my favorite format on Being Scared’s channel of the dark cabin. I think the ability to queue up stories would be useful because while playlists are good (though I’ve been having trouble with getting the playlists to work) sometimes you just want to listen to a few different stories but not put them in a playlist. Overall, I’ve been enjoying it so far, definitely would suggest it to friends who like horror and I’m excited to be able to watch it grow! Edit: A few more ideas I’ve had for improvements would be a toggle for having the ambience on automatically. As well as a hard limit on how long stories/ambience will auto play until it stops. Like YouTube’s ‘are you still watching’ function. Several times times I’ve forgotten to turn on the sleep timer and woken to my phone having run all night. I love the selection, especially of classic horror media.

I’ve been subscribed since a month after they started Chilling . I heard about it while watching a creepy pasta video and I was excited. Before it was a pain because of my partner and I’d weird sleeping situation we would have to have the tv loud when playing stories so he could hear it but it was affecting my sleep. Now I can just play it on my phone on his side of the bed and it doesn’t hurt my ability to fall asleep. Honestly it’s the best of both worlds since it has an ambiance setting. Now instead of deciding between stories and rain sounds we can just do both. Being able to adjust the volume is also really important to me and I’m really happy you can adjust it independently of the story audio. I can’t stand listening to the same story twice so the variety of content is a really nice bonus.

I’ve been a fan of the channel for over a year now and I’m so excited to see how far you’ve come!!!! I remember when you first hit 200k and I was there for the livestream. My name is Lamp(with a curved smiley face at the end) and I comment on all your videos. Sometimes I even get a heart from you. Me and my friend would always watch you when we slept over at each other’s houses! We love your videos and so when I heard about Chilling I subscribed as soon as I could. I really like how many options there are like different kinds of stories, choosing your own stories, favoriting stories, and perhaps my very favorite is the option to CHOOSE YOUR OWN AMBIENCE! (Obviously I pick Rain or stormy, it just works perfect with the stories) and I like how you can change the volume or even just listen to rain sounds! All around great app and keep up the good work! 5/5 stars EASY

Jam-packed endless this app entertainment that’s extremely affordable!

It was my very first adventure in this this app pocket universe. I chose a random story and entered. I was immediately greeted with a spooky atmosphere created by the creepy pitter patter of a dark rainy night. I was instantly in the mood and ready for a story. Provided the option to choose a background sound effect from a list, I chose some this app doom and gloom to set the ambience and pushed play. Oh this was going to be great! The story began…

A guy diagnosed with schizophrenia hallucinates a being who his psychologist believes is only a figment of imagination. But is it? Plot twist…at this point, the definition of reality begins to spiral as their lives take a sudden unexpected mind-boggling change. At this point I was surprised, amused, excited and terrified…all at the same time. I had goosebumps, wide eyes and my hands began shaking as I hung onto every word with bated breath as I began to question my own reality! Awesomeness!!!

I love the wide variety of options available in Chilling . At a total steal of only $2.99 a month, I have endless entertainment I’m going to thoroughly enjoy at bedtime in the dark of course bwahahahahaaa! I love the jam-packed variety including paranormal, true crime, classics, blood & gore and even vintage stories told by old timey radio shows and soooooo much more, wow wow wow!!!

Chilling is genius. Being a longtime fan of the founder of Chilling, I was very excited to jump on and experience what they’ve been working on and I am not disappointed! I will say it is just hitting the ground running so while there IS content, it’s not as much as I personally would have wanted (however this is a small gripe as they will be consistently adding fresh content which is very admirable).

Chilling also comes with your choice of background ambiance. From a crackling fire to a light rain, the ability to adjust the volume of the ambience mid story is a game changer. The ability to pause stories so you can come back to them later is fantastic, especially since the ambiance plays even when the story stops. Lastly, being able to switch off my phones screen is a MASSIVE convince. No longer will I be forced to leave my phones screen on in order to listen to stories before bed.

After that long winded review I think I can sum up my review in a 8 words: Chilling is genies and it’s worth it!

I’ve had Chilling since the launch date, I was so happy when it came out, and I still love it to this day. It helps me fall asleep on nights that I can’t seem to sleep. I’ve also found other creators of scary stories thanks to Chilling. Before Chilling I only knew of a few, like being scared. I love hearing all the new voices and I have began following the other creators too. I love listening to the stories while I fall asleep or when I’m just relaxing and drawing on my iPad.

They give you many different options on story’s and sounds in the background. You get to choose the how loud or how low you want them. It’s amazing, can’t wait to see this grow even more.

Chilling is everything your typical horror enthusiast would want and so much more. From the option to switch between ambient noises, to the wide array of content available in app, this one is sure to please your wants and needs. I love how it also provides an option for you to submit your own story to be narrated. Now another great aspect of Chilling, the attention to reviews. The moderators of Chilling pay such close attention to the user’s reviews, it is very impressive. The only complaint i would have would have to be regarding the amount of ambient noises offered to users while listening but that was addressed in a recent update, leaving me completely satisfied with everything regarding in app functionality.

As an avid listener, I adore thrilling and scary stories. Since discovering Being Scared and hearing about his app, I had to check it out. Needless to say my mind is blown. I love the ever evolving and growing library of stories plus the ever growing cast of narrators that I can hear! To me a great voice can make the story and the voices on Chilling have all that! From the presentation down to the cadence and tone of the voices! Keep up the great work, well done!

I love Chilling , makes my drives home from work so much more enjoyable especially with how late I get home. I would love a community page one day. Like a way for different horror genre lovers to have a spot where we can connect and discuss different stories. Just a thought.

I like the idea, the stories, and the added options. Overall really good app with great narrators. My only complaint would be there isn’t a free version, I understand it’s really not expensive but it would be cool to have some kind of free version. Something similar to other apps that have a free and paid version with one having more options and access to things than the other. I think it might help people to give it a chance more who are leaning towards trying it if there was a way to sample it or have some kind of prepaid access with adds or something. Y’all are doing great though 👍🏻, just something to think about.

I used to spend so long looking for scary stories that I actually wanted to listen to. Now it is all in one app which is Chilling. I am so happy that there is an ambiance option. It is so soothing and I always choose dark storm. I am absolutely in love with Chilling and it’s what you’ve been missing out on. You can download it and try it for free for 3 days and trust me by the second day you will be subscribing. DID I MENTION HOW AFFORDABLE IT IS?? $2.99 is perfect for me as a student who still wants to listen to my favorite stories yet not break my bank.

The fact that I can listen to ad free amazing stories in all my favorite genres whether it be true crime, fiction, creepy pastas, etc., plus there’s the benefit of narration by all of my favorite Youtubers and podcasters. But my favorite feature by far is the ambient noise in the background. Totally adds to the ambiance and is completely unique.

I fall asleep to Chilling all the time and I cannot give Chilling a more glowing review. This is by far one of the most creative and needed apps right now and I’m excited to be one of the first to join and you now have a lifetime member! Bravo!

PS: I’m going to take my meats to my room now.

5 stars so far. As a horror fanatic, I heard about Chilling and had to check it out. Free trial could have been a week or two at most, but I have zero complaints for 3 bucks a month for something dedicated. Honestly Id live to work for these guys however I could. this app is all of 2 months old and doesnt look like it. A couple of suggestions is some improved control over the audio. Audio levels should be independent for each channel so the background can be adjusted. And the background audio and effects could be options: none, rain, old time radio, intermittent howling, ghosty noices, etc… Monetization is fine as is. Just dont get too far into microtransactions or ads. I dont have a top dollar Id put this at but 2.99 per month is freaking awesome. Ill drop another review if I can think of anything else.
