Broken

App doesn’t work

Doesn’t work

CrankyUncle says take quiz, press the button and get a button that says Learn about denial techniques, press that and it goes back to the Take a quiz button. CrankyUncle is broken.

Doesn’t work. How is this on the app. store?

Doesn’t work.

Cranky Uncle is a Fake Expert

Developed by Skeptical Science, a website devoted to true ‘Climate Science’, and against real scientific discussion, CrankyUncle brands as ‘misinformation’ anything that questions the status quo IPCC view, and it brands as a ‘fake expert’ any retired physics professor from Princeton. But Climate Science relies upon the basics of physics: Arrhenius, Stefan and Boltzmann, Tyndall, Planck … they were ALL physicists.
It’s CrankyUncle that’s the Fake Expert!

STEALS UR INFO

Tried to make me pay many times and made my phone al glitchy. Don’t trust it.

Does not work

When I click on Quiz it brings me to a plank screen

Dreadful

CrankyUncle attempts to teach basic logical fallacies, but unintentionally commits several itself. Not recommended.

Doesn’t Work

First it asks you to “sign in” by entering your email address, which I reluctantly did (no doubt my junk mail folder will get fuller faster now). Then it went to a “dot dot dot” waiting screen that never resolved, so I just clicked the back arrow to the sign-in page and discovered instead that I was on the Home Screen and I was signed in with my email (even though I never checked my email for confirmation). I was offered only a “take quiz” button on each topic, but every topic just skipped right to a “learn more techniques (?)…” button that didn’t do anything.

Not Working

There was an article about CrankyUncle in today’s edition of American Educator, so I was excited about trying out this game after reading the article. First, I tried the online version. It gave me three buffering dots on a bright red screen over and over. That was it. So I thought I’d try to get CrankyUncle on my phone. The same thing happened. It’s too bad because the article made the game seem like it would be a great tool to use to teach kids about logical fallacies and rhetorical devices. I hope they can fix the bug.

Looked Interesting but doesn’t work.

Unfortunately CrankyUncle does not work. It might just be a scam to collect email addresses.

Cool idea but it doesn’t work

Same as others, I had issues signing in. Once signed in, my option was ‘take a quiz,’ which brought up the ‘learn more’ button. When clicked, the ‘learn more’ button takes you back to the quiz page (same as the home page), where you can click the ‘take quiz’ button again just for fun. Nothing will ever happen.

All from an app that’s supposed to help you with logic.

NOT WORKING

Hi Cranky Uncle - you guys got a nice write up in American Educator this month but someone needs to fix CrankyUncle for iOS because it seems to be broken. I had just recommended this to my administrators and librarian and now I’m feeling cranky!

It’s true

The quizzes are not loading. My App Store told me CrankyUncle wold work on my phone. It does seem to work, but the quiz link just gives me an option to learn more, which led to nowhere.

Not working

Great idea but doesn’t work. When I click quiz, nothing shows.

Not ready for release

Not working.

Works great, fun way to learn.

I had to really think about many of the questions. I also found the explanations to be insightful and easy to understand.

it’s a game!

This deserves five stars. My professor told my class that if we reach 1500 point we get extra credit and this game is simply yet isn’t too bad. I like it.

Fun Premise. Become “Cranky” as you learn to recognize deception

Maybe you can already recognize fake news and misinformation.

But , can you explain why it is misleading? CrankyUncle has many examples of twisted logic, and invites you to learn which deception techniques are involved.

I hope people use this to reliably detect deception rather than to invent new deceptive arguments!

❤️

I love crazy uncle it really reminds me of my dramatic and sad life

Love It!

CrankyUncle is a terrific tool for sharpening one’s critical thinking skills. It works (no idea why other reviews said it doesn’t), works well and is FUN! 😃

In this game, Cranky Uncle teaches you the rhetorical techniques and logical fallacies he uses to deny science.

Climate change, evolution, vaccination, a round Earth - he’s never met a science he wouldn’t deny! The deeper you get into the game, the more resilient you become against misinformation.
