Enjoyable but needs work

I think Tweetbot is pretty good for the most part. The look, aesthetics, and display are attractive. However, there are a few cons that I think bring down my rating for it.
The fluidity of Tweetbot is a little clunky. I find myself having to press the home button multiple times to refresh to the top of the page which is a turn-off for me. Also, I do not like the tab bar at the bottom too much, I don't find it to be very helpful. Especially when I'm simply trying to find out who recently liked my tweet or mentioned me. I have to go to a certain section of my profile to see who liked/retweeted any of my tweets opposed to how the original Twitter app I have all of that information in my “Notification Tab” that is merely one click away.
The way Tweetbot functions when trying to interact with a tweet is just rough all around tbh. For example, on the home screen, if I see a tweet that possibly has other people interacting with it and tuning in to a conversation, I cannot simply press on the tweet to see what's going on. this app makes me press on the settings of a tweet to look at the details of everything which is honestly time-consuming and annoying. I do believe these are easy fixes that would improve the functionality of Tweetbot . Overall, the functionality and the clunkiness of how Tweetbot operates need to improve in my opinion. Once these things are addressed and fixed, I will have a higher rating.

Software as a Service strikes again

The mass explosion of the subscription model is one of the worst things to happen to consumer software. Professional software suites like Adobe can get away with it for the reason that their alternatives don’t have the same market share and integration, but as a third party social media client, you’re already the underdog, and you’ve got more convincing to do to get me to use your product. Fortunately, this app 5 was a stellar app, and in spite of Twitter’s stinginess with their API for all those years was full of really nice features. this app 6 brings all of that and more to the table—time will tell how much more—but I’m not sure the added features make it worth it the shift in business model. I realize developing a good application takes time and money, and I’m all for supporting developers. I paid good money for this app in the past. But at the end of the day, for an average person like me, it’s literally just Twitter. It’s not so important to me that I won’t just keep using TB5 and the Twitter web client rather than shell out even more than I paid for TB5 every year for something new. Perhaps if the this app iOS and MacOS clients could be bundled together this could be a good deal, but otherwise it’s sad to see one of the all-time greats go this way.

Disappointed with paying subscriptions

I have to say that this is sad because I have used Tweetbot for many years now since it came out and the company was known for their Utilities app’s once I found out they were doing an Twitter client I was on board, but after many years. I wouldn’t mind paying for a new version of Tweetbot every year, so now playing for a subscription and keeping all the most useful features behind a pay wall call subscription is not ok with me at all I can’t support it. I don’t have any type of subscription because I don’t believe in them, I don’t even pay for DLC or micro transactions in the video games I play and love the most, so I would have rather be charge up front for this update than being looked out of the features that matters the most to me and many other users it doesn’t matter how cheap the subscription is. I just don’t appreciate and like subscription I would have love for the developer to let the previous version of Tweetbot users that they were going to lose some of their features after the update. Not recommend, and I’m sorry but this update is trash great app though, just don’t like and appreciate the new subscription model they had adopted, but hey a company needs to make a profit in order to survive no other choice. Good Luck to the company and the users. It didn’t have to be this way.

App feels bored

Having been using this app since it came out 11 years ago, it is an app I use daily and I’ve paid more than $50 in this over years, but new functions and design refinement of this app 6 doesn’t feel like warranting a $6/year paid subscription. If you can can live without Twitter API V2 features and use official app as substitute as I do, use this app 5 until it’s dead or killed before subscribe to 6 is probably a better idea.
Also, a $4.99 app every year or every other year just feel like more appropriate for a social networking app. Subscription adds unnecessary cumbersome management to end user and I really don’t need a social network app appearing in my already crowded App Store subscription section.
That being said, it’s worth noting this app has vastly better app efficiency, data privacy policy, and if you’re new to this app, it’s still worth a subscription.
Also, if a subscription means this app will have a subscription across all platforms (Including Mac) for the single price, that will be a big value add for end users too and I’ll happily subscribe. Hope Tapbots can consider.

Keep going back to TB5

Update: revisited after 3 months, at least no more insipid banners in TB5.

Still has stupid UI errors like not listing number of members in lists. The ONLY thing this fixes for me is Translate…. Link to Goog Translate was fixed. Sorry it’s still TB5 > TB6. Will check back in another 3 months, this “Preview” should not be sold now IMO

***

To those of you saying you can’t re-install version 5, go to AppStore > Purchases. this app 5 is still there, but Tapbots added something obnoxious. Read on. So I already said “no”to TB6, too many annoying bugs. I was willing to wait, but.... TB 5 is still a 4-5 star app. Or it *was* untill Tapbots started popping intrusive whole screen “SUBSCRIBE!” banners in the last version I PAID FOR. They could’ve closed off 1-2 bugs but instead decided to do THAT. Nah. I paid for every version until now, but I’m done with this developer. Just because Tim Cook treats “indie devs” like dirt doesn’t mean you get to pass that UX on to previously loyal endusers like me. You made it EXTREMELY EASY for me to permanently drop you Tapbots. No one more bug report, not one more dollar. But keep the rare 1-star review.

Still the only usable Twitter app on mobile

We all know the official Twitter client is garbage. Littered with ads, attempting to regulate how you view your timeline, “features” added suddenly and without warning that are annoying at best or harassment vectors at worse.

this app remains the only usable Twitter client. Chronological timelines and ad free scrolling are the number one features, but the added features this app offers are nice if they fit your particular use case. Tweetbot is nice and cleanly designed, and offers some nice theming as well.

Since the Twitter API change, we haven’t been able to view likes or RTs on our tweets in this app, but I’ve since learned that I didn’t need that additional noise in my life and don’t mind it being gone.

This is the third or fourth version of this app I’ve paid for and as long as it exists I will continue to pay for it. The issue in the past was that If you weren’t paying attention, you might have missed a new version being released. I hope the subscription model prevents that from happening in the future. While I agree that subscriptions are hit or miss for people, the ability as a long time user to continue to support the developer of their favorite app beats the alternative of having the developer go under or be bought by a worse corporation.

In conclusion, if this app one day is unable to function due to more restrictive Twitter api rules, I will stop using Twitter itself.

Hasn’t kept up with modern Twitter usage - limited functionality

I was a huge fan of this app 1 and 2 many years ago, using it after Tweetie got bought out. When the newest version came out, I really wanted to support and love it, instantly buying the 1 year subscription. It made me realize how much Twitter has grown in the past decade - because this app is lacking all the most important functionality. You can’t read through threads - replies appear just as they did in 2011. You can’t even view quote retweets of tweets - which are the most interesting part of discussion in my usage (juicy ratio-ed discourse - where you get to read the range of perspectives on one controversial tweet). In addition, it seems to have constant network issues, and fails to post when the regular Twitter app has no problem. It requires a long press to view the individual tweet and see replies to it - making it slow and awkward to follow any conversation at all. It seems meant exclusively to view tweets in a linear format and not engage in discussion. The only advantage is no ads - which sadly makes me wish Twitter officially offered a no ads subscription.

The Best of Tapbots, But A Touch Outdated

While I’ve been a this app user since the very first version launched on Tweetbot store and pushed it like crazy against all the competitors when third-party Twitter clients were the norm, I shied away from using them in recent years because of the design language and lack of modern twitter features available on the first-party client.

What you get here is the best of the best Tapbots can bake into a Twitter client along with no tracking or ads for 99¢ per month.

If you enjoy the familiar functionality and design of this app, you’ll love Tweetbot and feel right at home.

For me though, I can’t help but feel as though the design language hasn’t evolved much beyond 2012 era cues and would’ve loved to see a reimagining of the interface. While I suppose it does align more closely with the goofy (neo-skeuomorphic) nature of macOS 11, you’re still left feeling trapped in an app that hasn’t changed in a decade. Granted, Twitter’s own app has only recently added changes. Part of me enjoys the cartoonish icons that bring me back to simpler times on twitter, but I mostly wish they felt modern at least.

Essentially, you are paying for an app free of ads and tracking and the trade off of features like Fleets and Spaces (and voice tweets and polls).

Covering the cost of ads alone is enough to justify the sub to support the Tapbots team for me, but I do wish there would be a reimagining of the visual interface.

Early access, at Full price

Ive been using this app 5 or whatever the version prior to this new subscription based this app. Ive had some issues here and there over the years but they have usually been resolved eventually. When i heard of a new this app i decided to jump all in. Even at the price of admission with the new features i was excited for a breath of fresh air in this app.

Then i subbed with the free trial and off i went….my excitement quickly vanished like an accidental alcohol spill it evaporated in mere seconds. Looks like nothing has changed except for one thing, the subscription price. Im not against subscriptions if the usefulness of Tweetbot is warranted (June Cloud owns me for life with Deliveries) and i will gladly pay it to ensure the devs get paid enough to keep working on Tweetbot . However i found that even in early access, its just not warranted. So i did was any other user would do, cancel subscription, delete app and re-download the old one.

Well thats where I was wrong. Tweetbot is slowly falling apart to the point where media no longer plays correctly if at all. When i asked for support, they said i needed this app 6 to remedy this as the API has changed and thats all good, except you have to pay to use the new version. So im basically left with a broken this app 5 and and my only recourse is to pay the $5.99/year for this app 6.

Off to the official twitter app i go! Thanks for all the years TapBots, but today i say good bye.

You would think they were charging a thousand dollars

Like many, I’m not sure I agree with the transition toward subscription models for many of the apps I use. However, for something I use every day, the annual fee for this specific app seems very reasonable. Not to sound too old, but “back in my day, we used to buy magazines for information and entertainment.” Meanwhile, for nearly the same price as one magazine I can support this developer to keep my daily information looking nice and modern for a whole year. I just recently downloaded version 6, but have been using the previous versions for years. While I haven’t yet seen any drastic upgrades, I quickly subscribed without hesitation. Again, well worth the price for something I use everyday.

🤦🏻‍♂️

It’s the same app as last version, except now you have to pay $1/month or $6/year. Literally nothing in terms of look and feel of this has changed from current app. Still these giant bezels in Tweetbot on top and bottom despite bigger iPhone screens. So no full screen viewing. No additional themes, colors, options to choose own colors, etc. Nothing. Kinda pathetic. For me this is the worst of what a dev can do - bait you into starting to pay for a subscription for an app you already paid for with “improvements under the hood” and nothing else. Updated with new API doesn’t do it for me if you don’t make real changes. Website says some changes maybe coming later. Meanwhile last version 5 hadn’t been updated with any type of changes since that came out in years. Have little faith there will be any changes to function or look. Sorry. Not usually a pessimist. But just going based on dev’s history with Tweetbot

Nice Update for an App I’ve Used Over 10 Yeara

Great app - in looking at my purchases, I see that I’ve had almost every version of this app for the last ten years. I’ve been using version 5 since 2015. So…I get it, I’m not a fan of subscription models. But I look at it this way. It’s a great app. I haven’t paid the developers anything for over five years. They’re asking $6 a year for the new version. In this case, it seems pretty cheap. The reality is you can’t expect developers to create, support, and enhance applications on an ongoing basis at no cost. Rejecting a modest cost out of hand (especially when the existing version continues to remain available and functional) seems to put you in a position where you want something for nothing. Doesn’t work that way.

I prefer the subscription model

I’ve been a this app user pretty much from the beginning and am pleased that I can now be a subscriber because it is easier than periodically throwing 💰 into the tip jar which is what I used to do because … well … this app the best twitter client and my most heavily used app and I want to show my appreciation.

You never hear this app users complain about ads, or that their timeline is out of order. Those advantages alone are worth the price of admission. And this app’s developers continue to innovate. (I came to Tweetbot Store today to check the recent release notes because a new feature just appeared, and ended up writing a review, which is turning into a dissertation, lol.)

I like Calcbot, too 😆.

pretty but too much obvious animation

i like the subtly refreshed look of Tweetbot but i'm not in love with how obvious the animations are on my iPad. they're juuuuust slow enough that i am distracted by their motion. i wonder if it might be possible to add an option to reduce UI animations. perhaps because of the smaller screen size, these animations are unobtrusive on my iPhone.

this app remains the best way to use Twitter on mobile. it's clean and fresh and uncomplicated and doesn't waste my time with all of Twitter's folderol. no ads cluttering my timeline, no suggested users, no topics to follow, no out-of-sequence tweets, just my timeline in chronological order the way i want it. barring my wish for less-obvious UI animations, i don't think i could ask for anything more.

Streamlined

Very streamlined for engagement. You’ll know all about your replies with their super easy to navigate UI. However, you won’t get much notice about likes or very many ways to follow them outside of a number count. (I’d really like to be able to expand on this in the analytic menu. Having such broad info isn’t very beneficial for a smaller page like mine.)

I would also love to see translate added to the 3D Touch when hovering over a tweet rather than having to expand it > settings > translate for a 3 word sentence.

Still mildly prefer the vanilla client (aside from their ordering and ads) because it feels more personal, but I’m giving TB an honest try!

A steal at twice the price

If you’re going to use the bird site you might as well use a client that you know isn’t going to suddenly change everything overnight and make you even more miserable than you already are.

And if you use the bird site enough to be irritated by that sort of constant change-churn then $6/year is a bargain to be insulated from it.

I’m just glad the bird site has apparently eased up on their efforts to squeeze third-party clients into oblivion—and this is still the best third-party client out there if you just want to read posts in chronological order, like our fathers and forefathers did.

Syncing between devices is troublesome

this app is one of the few applications I’ve purchased as a subscription, mostly because for several years it’s been the only Twitter client worth using.

It’s dissapointing that sync between devices is still not up to snuff. I should be able to pick up where I left off on my phone, and resume on my iPad (and vice versa). In practice, this doesn’t work, especially if I’ve gone a day or two without opening the application.

Another annoyance, it seems there’s an arbitrary number of messages that you can fall behind (around 1500). Fall behind more than that, and your timeline is truncated. This could be the fault of twitter’s api, and out of control of the developer.

Sorry, you priced me out

I’m always willing to pay for a quality app and this app has always been a quality app. I’ve purchased and used it since v2. It’s been nearly 5 years since v5 was released. As a developer myself, I know it shouldn’t take 5 years to develop a social media app, especially when cosmetically it hasn’t changed much. I’m not sure what Twitter v2 API offers, but v5 of this app has always suited my needs. If this was fixed price (and fair) I’d pay, but I do not support subscription models as a rule. It’s bad business. If it takes 5 more years to develop v7 then I’ve paid $30 for Tweetbot. I don’t pay that much for apps. Sorry. I’ll stick with v5 until it doesn’t work anymore and if you’re still pushing subscription models I’ll move to a different app.

The best client still has a few shortcomings

This is my preferred Twitter client. The speed of adding to a mute list as well as syncing mute list changes (when you have a large mute list) and position syncing is fixed and that alone is worth it to me. Seeing polls is a welcome addition.

Saving a search remains broken as it has been for years. Adding a user to mute list is thankfully moved to the top of the list but hashtag and keyword are still require lots of scrolling to find them. Adding a mute filter now adds it directly to the list so if you wanted to only mute for a number of days you must now find the newly created filter and edit it.

Tweetbot never fails to deliver the best experience

this app 6 is one of the most polished apps there are, never had an issue using Tweetbot or even old versions, they’re always really stable. I tried many alternatives but none come close to what this app offers. Can’t wait to see what new features will be added along the new Twitter API. I wasn’t too excited at first about the subscription model but considering how much I’ve always used this app and the really cheap yearly price, it wasn’t a very hard decision to make. Developers need to get paid for their hard work so I get that

By

subscription !!!

I have purchased all copies of the program ... but it becomes a subscription to use Twitter ... No 🤚🏻

Happy to support Tapbots

I’ve been using this app ever since the first version was released and have always been happy with it. Due to the high polish of Tweetbot and how often I use it, I have no issues paying yearly for it. I understand the developers have to eat, put a roof over their heads, and support their families. I also think the yearly subscription is a small price to pay for an app I use multiple times a day, every day.

this app 6 is as great as ever. The new features are welcome and I look forward to where Tapbots takes Tweetbot in the future.
