Update: There’s more at stake when having to keep an app operating in the background than how often it communicates with home. And the excuse the developer gives for requiring keeping the app open doesn’t hold water. Also, the VIN entry fail is persistent and calling them as instructed by the error popup was a waste of time bc I had to leave a message and no-one returned my call.
Original: I’m also not interested in an app that requires that it constantly be open and running in the background for it to work. By the way, it doesn’t work then either. A waste of time for the user and an example of what gives government agencies an image of ineptitude.

The concept is great but the app execution is a failure. The initial load of the app got stuck on what seemed to be the last page of the “what’s new” pop up. The “Got it” button did not respond. There were no touchable areas that would exit the what’s new screen. I had to force quit app. Now app crashes repeatedly when attempting to open. Reinstalled app twice… same thing. NHTSA really Pinto’d this one. 🚗 🔥 👎🏻

Can’t find 2022 Toyota Prius, or for that matter, any 2022 Toyota.I downloaded the app because I discovered a recall for my brand new car and thought this would be excellent in keeping me aware of what was happening rather than having to constantly check on my own. I was able to do a workaround by entering a different year- 2011-and then my vin. But then suddenly it was showing up as a 2021, even though it recognized my Vin as a 2022. Ugh.
