So grateful for Metro Micro

I’m a daily public transit user. Though buses can get you almost anywhere in LA, waiting for a connection can be inconvenient. Walking is okay if you’re uninjured, the weather is nice, and you’re not carrying too much. It can also take forever compared to a bus or driving.

Metro Micro solves the first mile/last mile issue within their zones. It’s cheap, as easy to use as other ride sharing services, and safe. Also, because the drivers are Metro employees getting paid wages by Metro, you’re not perpetuating the gig economy issues of other ride sharing services — plus you don’t need to tip to ensure your driver can make ends meet. I have experienced zero issues.

In the future, I really hope Metro expands both the service areas and hours of Metro Micro. For example, I can currently use the service on my way home from work but not when heading in because it doesn’t start early enough. Still, I am overall extremely happy with how this services works and I hope it continues to grow.

Thrilled with the service, great app

I can’t believe what a fabulous service this is! As others have noted, the rising cost of solo rideshare apps have made them more cost prohibitive on a regular basis. Additionally, I’ve found them to be less reliable with drivers canceling and harder to book in the first place over the past year or two.

This service is nearly as convenient, and these days seems to be more reliable. Also, I found that the time it takes me to travel is very close to what it would’ve been to take an Uber. All of this at a tiny fraction of the price - I hope people take advantage of this service and that it continues to grow!!

Very excited that they are running later in my area now- running until 10 or later it will make it more of a possibility to use when going out for dinner/drinks. Would love it if it would eventually go as late as midnight or early morning hours to provide another alternative for people to safely get home at night.

Incredible value, great ride!

There’s so much I want to say about this service, from how comfortable the vans are to the enthusiasm the drivers have for how well they are treated as employees and how kind they are to me when I ride…

I hope this pilot program expands and continues. It’s worth more than what they charge, and I appreciate that LA recognizes that in addition to the busses and trains (which I also take), providing an affordable point-to-point option is essential in this amazing city.

One gripe: I was at first able to use my Apple Watch to pay for rides via TAP, but for some reason the last couple weeks it won’t work. I know the watch works because I use it on the TAP terminals on the train. Also, I’d be willing to put a credit card on my account but on repeated tries MetroMicro won’t let me. I’m not sure how to proceed. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Convenient!

I love using Metro Micro to get around, especially when some busses run once an hour! The longest wait time I’ve had is about 20 minutes and it leaves me at the bus stop right by my house. I think not enough people know about this, but y’all should really use it to get around. I used it to get from Compton and Willowbrook Station to get to my house when the next bus won’t be there for another hour. The drivers are also very friendly!

Update: I had no idea you could schedule rides for the next day and let me tell you it is a game changer! In the mornings, the bus closest to me only comes once every 45 minutes! So now I schedule my metro micro for the next morning and it never disappoints! I can not stress how great this service is!

Surprisingly good, efficient service

I didn’t know what to make of Micro Metro when I heard about it through an advertisement. But now having used the service more than a dozen times, I recognize the high value being offered here. At the price point of $1, you can get anywhere within your specific zone within an hour. This is an unbeatable price. The same ride with a ride share service can cost a minimum of $10, and those ride share drivers do not have the benefits that these metro employees have. This is a great service that I will continue to utilize and support. I recommend the same to all.

Use this service if it’s available in your area!

This service just opened in Glendale over the weekend and I used it to get home from the galleria, getting picked up at the Glendale Library bus stop. MetroMicro gave me accurate information about my ride and pickup zones, the driver was on-time and very friendly. The vehicles are comfortable and quiet. I’ll be using this service all the time from now on to get around town. Even if you own a car give it a try, don’t worry about parking for a day!

Very convenient!

Metro Micro is a very convenient ride service and absolutely affordable at just $1 per ride. If it wasn’t for this ride service I would be spending $30+ per day getting to and from work. Only four stars because I’ve encountered issues with receiving notifications about updates on my ride and dealing with a very rude driver. The application needs serious updates such as in application notifications just in case SMS is having issues like it is now. Other than those complaints the service is amazing.

Great Service!

Ok, so the LA Metro lines around the area have changed…a lot. Kind of a bummer. I took the gold line home today from Union Station and just missed the new 182 on Fig, and was like: “well…I could try this Metro Micro”.

Best choice ever.

It was there in 5, maybe 6 minutes, and I was home in another 10. Had I waited for the bus: I would have been stuck for another hour about 2 miles from home…so yeah, this was amazing.

Highly can say “I approve”, and suggest anyone in the areas they have this service to give it your patronage. (my one big word doe this review.) I just wish it existed when I was having to take uber every morning to the Glendale MetroLink/Amtrak station to catch the train…woulda made that job a lot more “stay-at’able”. But yeah… Awesome
Service. I hope LA Metro keeps this!

Great overall, needs more late night hours and range

I’ve used this for commutes and to go out within a service area and both trip types have been great. Sometimes commutes are longer because of other pick-ups so I’ll plan a 20-30 min buffer. Since this is a pilot service, Metro should include an option for direct rides. Like another commenter said, Metro stations e.g. Fillmore L line are just outside of the area’s range and makes more sense to include than not. Extending the service hours past 10 pm would also be helpful.

So pleased with this service!

As someone who lives in LA and doesn’t own a car, Metro Micro provides a great alternative to paying $20 for a 10min ride. I had to get to the North Hollywood arts district from the Burbank Airport and both Lyft and Uber were asking for upwards of $30 for a 12min ride! The prices have been getting more and more ridiculous. Paying $1 was worth it and the van itself was so nice and comfy! Definitely will be using this again!

My ride to school! Just make sure to book in advance.

I can’t get to school at all, because I have to get from my house to the train station. MetroMicro is super helpful, except that it doesn’t do what it advertises, it’s not on demand. You need to book at least one day in advance, but I book my rides for the week on Saturday. Overall, INCREDIBLE for only $1!

What an effective app if only …

If only they were active in my area 😭😭😭!!! I have work and I just found out I can’t put my bike on the bus because the wheels are too big, and I work from 12pm - 8pm. This means I’ll have to be taking the bus home at night which is still very risky as I’m a small African American woman. I was hoping MetroMicro would strike me some luck so I wouldn’t have to worry about that anymore. I live in south central LA, around Western— my job is in marina del rey. I really hope you guys can operate in these areas sometime soon. It was worth a try 😫

Great! Buuut..

We need you on the weekends in Westwood please!!!!!! Otherwise five stars. But one star off for not having drivers on the weekend. I’m disabled and this metro helps me so much and allows me to take my son to karate. He has a lot of activities in the weekend as well but I can’t take him without the metro micro. It’s too hard on my body to take the bus or drive my car. Please be available on the weekends!!! We would appreciate it so much and use it so much!!!

Great but room for improvement

MetroMicro on itself has a great and straightforward layout. Not hard to navigate at all. However, I do think the metro micro system needs improvement. Maybe it’s a lack of drivers, but I have had my ride be severely delayed or sometimes even cancelled all together. Don’t get me wrong, I think the concept is great bc it makes public transportation easier and accessible, but it’s not great.

Not user friendly

When you type the location of the place you are going to, it’s not like you can type the landmark, they would ask specifically for the address of the place. The drive itself is nice and the shuttle is clean. The problem is the people and MetroMicro . I was supposed to be picked up in a location but it won’t tell you the exact location. I waited for 20mins for my pick up coz the text told me the driver is on the way, then it won’t tell the specific location to be picked up.

I hope it gets better

It’s rare for them to be on time. I’ve waited ten to more than forty minutes after the time span. I understand there might be traffic but more than forty minute wait?
There’s times when I check MetroMicro it says the bus is getting closer then all of a sudden I get changed to a different bus that’s really further away and then again to the bus close to me and then again to the further one that’ll make me wait another twenty minutes.

There’s times when they try to cancel on you. Why? It’s scary when it’s getting late and dark.

Excellent service

I really appreciate the way the service is set up with telling you what time frame they will arrive as well as has a live update on the route and time it will take to get to the destination. All of the workers have been very professional and responsible drivers, so thank you. I take Metro Micro everywhere I possibly can!

We need this service!

This is a long time coming! I really love the convenience for tasks like going shopping for food, rides to my dr office, getting food with friends. I hope this service gets popular and really starts to make money for Metro. If they can keep the cost to less than Uber then it will be a real competition.

4 stars for not letting me use my work issued pre tax transit Wageworks commuter visa. I’m sure it will in the future

Where are the pickup/dropoff locations?

There is no list of actual pickup locations where your vans stop. Putting in start/finish addresses that are within the service areas is useless. MetroMicro doesn’t say which stops(s) are closest to the address you plug in; it simply says sorry, you can only book rides within defined zones. Well, the addresses ARE within the borders of the zone. You’d think that listing pickup/drop-off points would, like bus stops, be part of MetroMicro /services. Instead, you keep them a mystery. 🤬

Fast reliable clean public transportation in Los Angeles.

Honestly if you are on the bus and need reliable transportation from point a to point b you should be using this service. At first I was like skeptical but since the first time I have used it I love this service provided by them. It is a lot cheaper than using an Uber or Lyft and the drivers are friendly.

Used Metro micro first time this week. Booked my first ride online. I called to check I had done it right. Instruction was to wait at SW corner of A and B street. I panicked. Where is SW corner? No clue. I asked someone on the street. He said this seemed about right. Anyhow, I waited and did get updates on my phone that driver was on the way. Then I get a msg I had missed my ride. I called MM. Lady said the ride had left because I wasn't there. The problem was me. I got the wrong SW corner. I have no clue how to know which direction is which compass point. But, if I had been given specific landmarks, that would have been different. Well, the MM lady was so super nice. She booked me another ride, and explained I could go on google map to see where I should be. I told her my phone acts up and I cannot trust it to work right at the moment. when needed. I mean, I've already missed one ride. She pulled up google map on her end. Gave me specific landmarks, what's behind the bus stop, what's facing it, etc. She absolutely directed me to the correct SW corner. I knew what restaurant was behind the bus stop and what I was seeing when I stood at the bus stop. She also told me about each compass point at that intersection for future use. That is absolute service. It's scary to expect a ride and end up stranded. This lady went way beyond serving the customer. Her name is CHISOM. I told her I wanted to ask for her next time I needed another ride. Of course, that's not how calls are routed. Anyway, her name is Chisom. CHISOM. She suggested booking my return ride if I needed that. Yes, I did. She went through the same painstaking process of telling me what landmarks to look for, instead of simply telling me which compass corner to head for. Then, she advised me to request in "special instructions" when ordering the ride to ask for specific location/landmarks. I may try that next time. This wonderful lady saved my day. I was terrified after losing the first ride. As for the ride, even though I've only rode twice, I think I may use Metro Micro more often rather than beg for a ride from friends. Chisom definitely made a difference. Plus, both drivers on the rides were super friendly. Cynthia even asked if I wanted to be dropped off at the designated stop or a little before or after, since it was raining. Talk about service!

Metro micro needs to be free for college students, people with metro passes and for people with access. I understand it's only a dollar but metro should be motivating everyone to ride micro as its next generation. Especially when it takes them a while to come, and you have to walk a bit not knowing where you should be.

I just learned about Microtransit as I frantically searched for a way to get my 80-Y-O wheelchair-bound friend to the polls to vote. I could tell the staff and dispatchers were trying their best to be helpful, cutting through the red tape to get this first-time user an account and scheduling our ride. The problem was they left us waiting for an hour and a half until my friend was exhausted and had no choice but to give up on the trip when we learned that they couldn’t give us _any_ idea of when the ride would be available, not to mention getting the return trip. We were originally scheduled for pickup between 3:00 and 3:30 and got a computer-call about 3:35 that our ride was 7 to 12 minutes away. We moved out on the curb (in 100-degree heat) to meet the bus. After waiting another half-hour I called for status, got connected to dispatch and learned that our ride was “on the board” but was waiting for a van. We moved back inside and waited another 30 minutes. On my next call to dispatch I learned that “the computer had rescheduled our ride” but they could not give any idea when we would get picked up. By now my friend was in pain and we were forced to cancel the ride. Microtransit is a fantastic concept but if our experience is any indication of everyday ops, it may place an unsuspecting, health-compromised senior rider in the position of completing his trip in an ambulance.

I was thrilled to use this service last year. The drivers are always courteous and professional. However this year I have become disillusioned due to not being able to book a ride or having to wait extended periods of time. Several months ago I had to wait almost an hour, and often times rides are simply not available for hours a time. I also missed a ride once, because I didn't understand where to meet the driver. I think they grew too fast and are unable to keep up with demand. I still believe they have the potential to be a great service, and I will continue to try and book rides with them.
