This is an interesting game but has the nasty habit of crashing after you’ve spent months building up your generals, skills and armies. The developer never responds and the only known fix is to delete the app and start from scratch. There’s supposed to be a save and restore feature but it doesn’t work. I’m so annoyed, I doubt I’ll reload this game again. Also, if you want a realistic historic game, this is not it. To win many of the levels you often start with a few units and have to defeat more that 100 opponents. The Battle of Marengo, which could have gone either way in history , is a slam dunk for you once you build up your forces. The terrain matches but the relative value of the units has not been matched as well as with the old SSI folio games from the Napoleon at War series.

You may notice there are two different versions of this game with only slight differences between the two aside from the name. Either one will play well and you can purchase reasonable upgrades until it all stops working. Then you get a black screen. You can switch to the other version (without your upgrades) but eventually it will stop working at which point the original will be working again if you reinstall it ( without your upgrades). It’s a long play con but the game itself (when working) is quite good.

A good turn based strategy game which meshes the game genre with the historical period and freemium time based purchases well. Easy to play and immersive, the game provides historical context involving military leaders during the Napoleonic era and the tactics to win each level reflect keys to victory each different military employed. However, the game has some glaring bugs such as unable to complete all objectives on level 1 on Normal difficulty and the numerous spelling and translation errors throughout the game. It’s clear the developer skimped on the translation of the in-game story. The minor bugs that persist in the game do distract from the fun and immersion.

05/21 Update
==========
The game has been updated to put many top tier troops behind a paywall. While many levels do not need this, the harder levels seem to require access to these units. The developer has also taken more of a focus on monetizing the game as even things which are labeled “free” cost money. The unit abilities in game are also not well defined. How critical hits are determined is not described and other unit specific abilities provide no tactical difference between unit tier and type. The game could be much richer with small things like trait differences between dragoons and cuirassier, but falls short here.
