Great for my kids!

2024-11-17

I was browing APWorldLanguagesExamApp store for trending educational apps and this popped up first thing. I love world languages and learning more about other cultures, so I figured I would download onto my 8 & 10 year old kids’ ipad so that they could give it a shot! We had a bad experience with duolingo in the past (one that involved a shotgun and a blowtorch.... we do not talk about it anymore), so they were skeptical about it at first. However, they gave it a shot for a few days, and they love it! Their range of languages has increased drastically, in fact, I literally do not think it can increase any more! They know literally every language on earth, even the beautiful Satanic Tongue! Downloading APWorldLanguagesExamApp has inspired me and my husband’s ghost to send the kids to study abroad in Europe. We’ve given them each one plastic bag for their belongings and they will be off by tomorrow morning! As wonderful as APWorldLanguagesExamApp has been, I must give it one star, however, as it is not compatible with my virgin blackberry phone.

an actual review of the app before exam day

2024-11-17

I’ve only test run APWorldLanguagesExamApp a few times, but I have yet to take the exam (it is in about a week). so far, I have found multiple issues with the timing and APWorldLanguagesExamApp has overall been useless in preparation for the exam. There is no timer displayed for students to accurately tell how much time they have left, and there have been many times when I have been unable to finish a response in time. second, APWorldLanguagesExamApp only has one setting: English. while APWorldLanguagesExamApp was designed in order for students to take a College Board AP foreign language exam, there is no opportunity for students to practice speaking in a timed setting in the language for which they are enrolled. For a company that makes way too much money a year in order to administer tests and score them, APWorldLanguagesExamApp is lacking in show as to what how much the company has put towards making the exam reasonable and passable for students.

Simplified and terrifying

2024-11-17

I have taken AP Spanish Language and the demo questions were more related to that. It was just a “have a conversation” type deal. But there are other Language classes such as AP Spanish Literature. I don’t think that the format for the test suits this class. Are we really expected to give a good explanation and analysis of a whole story in a few minutes. The fact that we don’t even get to choose when to start or stop the recording is also terrible. If I end up coughing badly, my coughs will take up most of my recording even if I really had something good to say. I won’t have time to get some water. What about the people whose devices are not great quality?!? I have a laptop with a bad mic, so I am going to use my phone which has better quality. But what about the people that don’t have other devices with decent mics?!?

app doesn’t work :(

2024-11-17

There are no buttons. i had to power off my phone to stop the practice exam from starting—even when i exited APWorldLanguagesExamApp or turned off my phone, the preparation audio kept playing—and now i am scared to open it again. APWorldLanguagesExamApp cannot be stopped. the voice of the man reading the instructions will haunt myself, my mother, and all generations to come. i could put my phone on a little raft and float it all the way across the ocean to France, where the people will actually understand what it says, and neither the dead battery nor the water damage will prevent that man from wrapping his cold metal fingers around my throat and apathetically choking the life out of me. nothing will stop him until i finally take the ap world languages exam, and even then the searing, infected wound in my ear that is the result of the timbre of his monotone will only continue to fester.

Dear college board

2024-11-17

Thank you for making me pay hundreds of dollars to take my AP exams only to have them be 45 minute online FRQs that can in no way show the hours of hard work I have put into my AP classes. In addition, more often than not, these AP exams don’t even work and instead of putting time and effort into bettering the servers, you couldn’t care less and are making students retake their exams. The college board only cares about money and doesn’t care at all about the actual students. You have a monopoly over education and you claim to be non profit but somehow you receive over a billion dollars annually. The college board is a scam. Can’t wait to use APWorldLanguagesExamApp for my AP spanish exam and probably have it crash 🥰😙✌️🧚‍♀️✨✨💫💞💕💘💗💖

Ap Spanish test

2024-11-17

I am extremely disappointed in APWorldLanguagesExamApp and the fact that we spent $94 to take this test and it is a 2 question 15 minute test is ridiculous. It is not fair that the test is only speaking, because not everyone is the best at that. And so there should be something else. APWorldLanguagesExamApp barely works and numerous people have stated that it would not let them submit it. If on the day of the test, it will not let me submit I am requesting my money back. There is no way I am going to spend another day taking the test because college board decided to have us use a lousy app. I have taken Spanish for so many years, and it is completely unfair that this is all we get.

it's free but i still feel like i'm getting robbed

2024-11-17

My parents payed like $94 for a, what is it, 20 min test. It only test speaking, and doesn't test it well, and ignores, you know, the other things one could do with a language. The fact the college board continues to go on with these tests despite the amount of people who have failed to submit bc of the college board's shortcomings (guys y'all have enough money to avoid the server crashing) just stiffens my resolve that every executive of college board should meet the ironic fate that Pedro de Valdivia met. Now of course I do not wish death on the college board folks, but the irony of having gold poured down their throats would not be lost on me.

Language

2024-11-17

I thought the whole point of this test was so that we can adequately use our language in real life scenarios. If I am being taught a language and being spoken to and speaking in that language shouldn’t you at least make the effort to give a variety of options for each test taker and what option they are taking. I am understanding that COVID has been tough for everyone but if you once had time to make a long drawn out test that lasted hours with multiple parts that actually happened sooner than it is now then you definitely have enough time to add variety in each option.

I am not prepared for this exam!

2024-11-17

I have spent the past two months in a near vegetative state as my thumb scrolls through memes on my phone that my glazed over eyes barely register as stimuli. I woke up this morning and was informed that I am going to be taking the AP Spanish Language and Culture examination next week. This was a surprise to me not so much because I found out that I was still enrolled in the class, but rather because I was surprised to discover that I am still a sentient being with four technically functional limbs, not some inflated meat based automaton who exists solely for his next bowl of Annie’s white cheddar shells. Now I gotta take this AP exam? Aw shucks.

Not really cb’s fault but still

2024-11-17

I personally think that most of the time the ap exams are administered pretty well and I concede that in this time it would be nearly impossible to transition all of the testing online.
There are however, things APWorldLanguagesExamApp could do to be better, you know?
To elaborate on the timer everyone is talking about, instead of indicating the time you have left in your response it indicates how much longer is left in the entire recording (including the prompts read to you) so you need to mentally note when the recording ended, and add 20 seconds to it to know when your time runs out.
Recording quality is also an issue. Listening to the playback any time you say a p you run the risk of blowing out the eardrums of whoever is reviewing your recording.
Lastly, and this is a nitpick, but parts of the UI are atrocious. The banner at the top indicating practice test looks like a pop up ad you’d get for vitamin supplements. All the stuff in the top bar of your phone, the time, your wifi status, your battery is shown on APWorldLanguagesExamApp , but is cast onto a white background, so you can only see a weird semi-blackish outline.
Overall I mean APWorldLanguagesExamApp works, but it’s kind of sad this is the best product cb could come out with.

From A Student

2024-11-17

First of all, going to start off by saying that I, as well as many others, am very nervous to take my first AP exam on an app. An exam I paid nearly 100$ for. So don’t mistake my low rating for bias, or wanting to take it down.

APWorldLanguagesExamApp has some genuine flaws. Their timer is confusing at best and doesn’t really allow for us to respond naturally. You either have to watch the response time yourself or just end early.

Please make some changes...

Surprising given the circumstances

2024-11-17

While the end result may have some serious flaws like taking exams at 3AM and being very brief due to the *extenuating circumstances* surrounding the past few months, CollegeBoard has really stepped it up in making AP exams available this year despite everything happening. Rushing an entire exam platform on multiple devices out the door along with all of the infrastructure that goes with it is no small feat. I would say CollegeBoard has made this situation as fair as they are able to and it’s impressive on the part of the devs.

The is an app specialized for AP testing

2024-11-17

This is an app specialized for AP testing, I don’t know why so many people left bad reviews for APWorldLanguagesExamApp on non-AP testing related issues. I must repeat APWorldLanguagesExamApp is only useful for AP testing, it is not a casual language-learning program. It’s very helpful that College Board came up with this solution to take AP tests when students are quarantined at home. While it does have quite a few flaws, I’m grateful for the software developers who dedicated their time on developing APWorldLanguagesExamApp to support students at this chaotic period of time.

Reconnecting with my heritage

2024-11-17

I only downloaded APWorldLanguagesExamApp with the intention of using it for the ap exam, however as I explored its features, I ended up having the privilege of coming into close contact with my cultural and ethnic heritage. I come from a multicultural background, and as a mixed American, I am both simultaneously everything and nothing at the same time. I am, schrodinger’s citizen. Therefore, the ap world language exam application is a home to me. It is like a father to me, I love it like my son. Thank you college board, for making the house that is the AP exam into a home.

A Win For Communism!

2024-11-17

My grandma speaks Russian and lived in the Soviet Union her whole life until she moved to America. Communism was hard but fulfilling for her. I grew up in America, however, and never learned Russian so she was never able to bestow upon me the knowledge of Karl Marx. APWorldLanguagesExamApp helped me so much when learning to communicate with her over a shared passion of ours. Comrade to comrade. I am now fluent in Russian and a true comrade all thanks to college board. I can’t thank college board enough for finally allowing me to pursue my passion❤️❤️
