The app is probably good for people who are just trying to lose weight, who are new to tracking macros. However I am extremely precise I weigh everything I eat and had previously used carbon diet app. The calculations avatar generates seem to always favor less calories. So while on maintenance I lost three pounds. I didn’t want to loose weight just maintain it. I wasn’t very happy with that.

Visually the app is extremely confusing to first start using. It’s obvious the creators did not do much work on mapping out the user interface before programming.

The accuracy of calories when scanned is good the app is powered by Nutrinix which has proven fairly solid.

I like the features such as the intermittent fasting timer, a way to log your progress pictures. However it is another weak point that you really can’t look at those logged progress pictures on the app. They’re too small and I couldn’t find a way to make them bigger or compare side to side past pictures. The body fat percentage calculators are great. I also liked being able to balance out the macros for the day. Calories aren’t really a focus of the apps interface, they are there but hard to find. Sometime it’s nice to be able to quickly know how many calories you have for the day.

Overall it’s not worthy of the monthly cost as it derailed my goals through bad advise, I am switching back to carbon diet.

I’ve been using Avatar since November 2020, but got serious in January. I’ve always gotten bored tracking my food because I used MyFitness pal and was in my caloric count regularly. What I didn’t pay attention to was what I was eating. After looking at my macros I wasn’t eating nearly enough protein and too much fat and carbs. I guess I could’ve upgraded but my wife has been using this app for a while and I figured I’d give it a try. I’ve lost 20 pounds in three months and I never lost near that weight with myfitness pal.

The database is limited, but you can always add in your own meal and foods. It’s got different goals to choose from and you can email an ACTUAL PERSON at any time. It flexes out your calories if you don’t hit them on a particular day and your daily averages don’t matter as much as the weekly which is great because you can change your “check-in” day and flex out any overage (or make up for any shortage!). The bubbles are visually pleasing and the learning curve is small. I’m glad I gave this app a shot.

This app has been such a game changer in terms of hitting my nutrition goals. The improvements that they’ve made to the app and software has made this absolutely fool proof for tracking macros and the in-app coaching/ guidance and hands on support they provide is the macro-friendly cherry on top. I genuinely never saw myself as capable of hitting any type of goals in terms of weight loss, that I was a lost cause but after signing up, I’ve realized that this doesn’t have to be so complicated and unsustainable as I’d thought for so many year. I am seeing progress and changes both physically and mentally and know that it wouldn’t have been possible without the Avatar team. This is more than a macro tracking app; this is a community and a family all going through similar journeys. Thank you Mark, Katie and the rest of the Avatar team for making me realize I can eat Girl Scout cookies every day and still see my body fat percentage drop🙌🏼
