App Store page for NewYork is full of false information. Does NOT support Apple Wallet, so that’s a lie. Only truthful thing here is the reviews that talk about how bad NewYork is.

In what universe is someone going to trust a stranger, let alone NYPD, with their unlocked phone? Setup process is awful. Confirmed everything went fine and then immediately told me I have to “recover” my mobile ID and started me on the enrollment process again.

Don’t trust NewYork, and be mad that our state decided to skip over a better option that is integrated with our phones OS in favor of throwing away our tax dollars on this third party, untrustworthy, horrible, bug ridden pile of trash.

Shame on NY State. Shame.

Claims down below that Apple Wallet is supported. Setup took several times of scanning docs and taking a selfie only to fail over and over. It eventually worked but it was a pain and then after all that I can’t import the ID to my Apple Wallet because it’s not actually supported. Waste of time.

Downloaded NewYork . Went through the rigmarole of photographing front and back of the license, on several days and in several places. NewYork takes the photo whether you think it’s positioned and lighted correctly or not. Tried to game the camera and took multiple photos until at least readable. Then NewYork says Oops, error, start again. This happened repeatedly, over several days and in several places. With differing lighting conditions to try to make NewYork happy. Button for “Get Support” takes you to … a blank screen! Over and over and over.

Great work, NYS DMV! Totally non-functioning and useless.

Bloated, boxy, confusing and non user-friendly app, NewYork WILL SUDDENLY STOP WORKING and demand that you “update NewYork ” without any warning! Also, it now requires you to allow it access to Bluetooth or it will give you an error. In short, NewYork is junk. The implementation is horrible. Had Apple done this through Apple Wallet it would have likely been seamless and functional. Will continue to carry my physical DL card. Anything NY state undertakes is ALWAYS an over budget FAILURE and NewYork does not disappoint!

No organization in New York State knows what this is nor do they accept it went into a state agency they asked ID I showed them it. They said do you have it in your Apple wallet I said no this is what the issues the state doesn’t issue that it was fake, this whole thing is a waste of taxpayers money because no one knows what it is. No one accepts it and it’s a joke.

A really disappointing use of taxpayer money. Bad UI, horrible reliability, and, most importantly, no Apple Wallet integration. This should have been handled better. There are four states that already have this up and running in Apple Wallet. The tech is there. The security is there. We don’t need another NY ID app; the last one was decommissioned. Why is it that when NY needs to get something done, it’s never executed correctly?

I wanted to share my recent experience with your app and suggest improvements.

Firstly, it would be incredibly convenient to have the option to add my license directly to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. This would cater to users who prefer not to carry a bulky wallet.

Unfortunately, adding my license to your app was highly time-consuming, taking nearly a week of my time. Additionally, the customer service did not help resolve the issues I encountered.

I believe NewYork has great potential to be a valuable tool for users, especially those looking for a streamlined, digital alternative to carrying physical documents. However, the current process misses the mark.

Thank you for considering these improvements. I hope to see a more user-friendly version of NewYork soon.

I’m pretty handy with using technology, and understanding how to capture items with my phone, navigating through prompts that can be complex, or very simple. This set up was very simple, yet it seems like the developer of NewYork missed the bar making this set up function correctly for some users, as you see by the reviews.

I have made several attempts to add my license over three different days. NewYork works fine until it is time to scan the back of the license. The scanning never completes. There is no actual error message, NewYork just pauses for a minute with my phone hovering over the license, then I get a message to flip the id over. Registration of my license never finishes.

NewYork development is a joke while Apple Wallet is already there with more security and privacy. It has no integrated functionality to Apple Wallet either. NewYork could opens up to many ways that bad people can look into your privacy and lead into data breach. So why should I use another app for my ID to risk my data and privacy? In my opinion, do NOT use it until NY DMV has some rework to at least Apple integration.

This isn't my first time using my iPhone to scan or photograph documents. However, no matter what I did, NewYork wouldn't complete the registration. It kept saying, "An error occurred. Your New York Mobile ID cannot be registered." I've tried more than 20 times, but nothing worked.

Developers, it's 2024—please include a feature that lets us upload our photos instead of relying solely on the in-app camera. The in-app camera doesn't even crop well automatically; the captured photos end up slanted after auto-cropping.

Doesn’t work. It says that it will time you out after an hour of inactivity but it automatically gives you a time out error after you take a selfie. Also why didn’t they just go through Apple to do this in the wallet app?

Another app for a single feature, when that feature is already available in Apple Wallet and has been live for more than a year with 4 states already supporting it. Why are we complicating things, NYS? And why does NewYork profile claim that this supports Apple Wallet, when it clearly doesn’t?

Why can’t NY just adopt Apple’s Wallet ID? How much money was wasted to create this when a better, more integrated, more private and secure option already exists?

I can only imagine who’s brothers, cousins, nephew got the contract to create something that didn’t need to be created that I’ll be shocked if we don’t find out in the future about some data breach.

There is so may ANY reputable place will accept this. The ID you’re told to present has nothing that makes it look official. Someone can LITERALLY just make a fake page and present it anywhere (not that it’s going to work bc even the “official” one looks fake). It’s just a pic of you and then your info typed out below it. Try again bc this isn’t it!

App has a ton of flaws including timing out constantly and was confusing to use upon initial setup during the self portrait phase of setup. It also does not integrate with Apple Wallet. NewYork only seems to convert a physical ID and break it down into datasets. I do believe Digital ID”s are needed but NewYork seems to need a lot of work if its primary function is to create a digital id from a physical id that can be stored in Apple Walle and presented when needed.

Are there plans to use the official Apple framework for driving licenses in the Wallet app?

Gave up after 3 crashes.

Gets stuck when verification of the back of the ID

Not only will it not verify, it says if it fails three times you essentially get banned. So brilliant 🙄

Walked me through the activation process. Submitted my drivers license and picture for processing and never completed after 10 minutes. Closed NewYork and reopened and now NewYork will not open at all.

Apple supports a feature called IDs in Apple Wallet that is highly secure and preserves your privacy. That is not what NewYork is. NewYork can track when and where you use your digital license. Presenting an ID requires the phone to be fully unlocked which makes it vulnerable to data theft if the party that needs to see your ID has nefarious intent. Governor Hochul could have directed her DMV to support the Apple Wallet feature on iOS and instead spent taxpayer money with a private contractor to create this half-baked app-based solution. Do not use NewYork if you value your privacy.

No matter what I try it will only scan the front of my ID. Refuses to recognize the back

Keep trying to just enter everything and keep getting random error codes. Obviously built and tested by a bunch of amateurs. Maybe I’ll try again after they get the bugs worked out.

Also no t sure I want to trust my personal info to an app that can’t even manage basic functions.

Feels like NewYork should have an option of including/showing an actual photo of your ID? Doesn’t seem like a bar or restaurant is going to take this as proof of age/valid for quite a long time unless that’s an option given they would need some sort of scanner.

Why can’t this just be in native iOS like other states I.e. Georgia?

There doesn’t seem to be a way to add the id to Apple Wallet even though NewYork description says it supports it.

As one review as already point out NewYork is ok , I was able to set up my ID easy but it doesn’t work in Apple wallet you have to use NewYork to show your ID , they should have work with Apple would have been so much better so much money and time wasted going this way.

NewYork works fine, and I was able to setup my mobile ID, but contrary to its App Store listing, it does not support the ID in Wallet — you must use NewYork itself. This seems unnecessarily clunky, and I wish NY hadn’t spent the time and money doing something custom that we all know won’t work as well as Apple’s solution.

One of the main reasons I downloaded NewYork was to use it in my Apple wallet, despite it saying its supported I couldn’t find an options to do so.

Great to see NY get with the times, but disappointed I’m not able to add this to my Apple Wallet out of the gate. Don’t really want to have an additional app just to not have to pulled physical ID out. Furthermore, I had to attempt to sign up at least four different times due various error codes/timeouts.

It appears convenient to have my ID on my phone. However, the usability comes into question when someone is waiting for the information but NewYork requires an update and there’s no service. I wouldn’t want to rely on this solution if I was being stopped by the police. I would much prefer storing this in my Apple wallet.
I imagine waving my phone around trying to find signal for an irate officer with no patience.

It was fairly easy for me to get NewYork set up and verified. Also interesting that it showed the color version of my 10+ year old picture from my ID.

However, NewYork Store listing mentions integration with Apple Wallet, yep there is no option to add it anywhere.

Today my NY MID was not accepted at DMV office as a proof of identity and I had to present ID in card form. Then what’s the purpose of this.
This should be acceptable at least in all new york state and city offices, like dmv, police, education, parks etc and it should be able to be added in Apple wallet also.

It would be far better if the ID could be added to your Wallet like anything else, but it’s hardly a reason not to install NewYork .

I recently installed and set up NewYork . Everything went smoothly for me. Everything was finalized in under five minutes. I haven’t used it at an airport or government office yet so time will tell how well it works.

Please add Apple Wallet functionality.

While having a mobile app that allows for a digital wallet is a good first step, it would be really great if we can add our license to our Apple Wallet instead. Other states like Colorado, Arizona, Georgia, and Maryland allow you to add your license to your Apple Wallet, why can’t Mew York do the same? In regards to this specific app, it was really easy to install and add your license. It would be nice to have the TSA functionality expand to other airports instead of just JFK and LaGuardia.

+1 to all the comments about app lacking feature to add your driver license to Apple Wallet. That said, NewYork worked seamlessly for me, and it enabled FaceID (great because I forgot my 6-digit pin almost immediately).

Dinged a star because of NewYork designer’s privacy policy (not NYC) which Apple warned collects/aggregates anonymized data about usage.

I have heard from others that the finalization process can hang for a bit. Just be patient, I’m sure a lot of NYers are all trying to activate and it’s taxing their systems at the very beginning of this program (which I have been waiting for, so 🙏…now just add the iPhone wallet integration)

Almost perfect

So far I’ve had no issues with NewYork . I downloaded NewYork and was easily able to add my ID without a hitch. The real test will be when I go to the airport but that won’t be for another 6 weeks.

I’d love to see the ability to use NewYork on my Apple Watch as well. Convenience is key.

I agree with many others that it should have Apple Wallet integration.

Took me 5 times to scan back of ID because NewYork wouldn’t recognize the back side. There’s also no Apple wallet integration which is extremely disappointing

NewYork worked very well. Installing my license data went smoothly.

Be patient when NewYork is finalizin. It does take many minutes.

It’s rare that you see NY leading the way in technology. It is even more surprising to see a DMV being a leader in advancing technology. Seems like there is an oxymoron in this or certainly a joke. However NewYork is easy to enroll and easy to use. My only criticism is there isn’t anywhere to really use this yet. Get my local bar and liquor store to start taking this. Also would love to see me be able to use this to do things on the internet with it.

Very easy to scan your driver’s license and snap a selfie with step by step guidance in NewYork . Secured with a PIN or Face ID. Hoping Mobile ID will become widely accepted, further reducing what we need to carry everywhere!
