I’ve been playing chess my whole life. I’ve played against some fantastic opponents in my time but none of them have ever given me the same level of challenge as this games LEVEL 4! I lost multiple times in a row and the computer always seemed to pick the perfect counter to whatever move I was attempting to make. That is, until I decided to use an “undo” then all of the sudden the moves the computer starts marking are amateur?! Throwing its rooks and queen into squares I could easily take the, it was like handouts after countless matches of frustration wondering why somebody who’s played for so long and considers himself to be decent enough was struggling with only 40% of the maximum difficulty ChessOnline provides. Then I noticed for the full game they charge $10 and it came with unlimited hints and undos. I can’t prove anything, but I’m very confident the algorithm is meant to up the difficulty drastically until you start using hints and undos. All in an attempt to get people to pay for more or watch the ads (which by watching mid match gives you a hint or an undo). Either way I’m furious, I’m not shocked at all that ChessOnline holds a pathetic 1 star.

app constantly fails playing friends and online. they always blame the “internet connection “ or ask for Video evidence …….. for real …… second if you spend money on this game expect it to slowly dwindle down because your energy won’t regenerate if you purchase over ten. I have played tons of games and lost multiple energy , and coins that I paid for because of ChessOnline . and they will never recoup you ! Don’t trust the ratings either …. All these issues add up propel winning and losing for every reason other than they better at chess !!!! horribly customer service. fix your app already or refund people !

Love the game love how simple it is for an average chest player. But the ads that are over a minute ruin the game so much. it makes me not want to play it ever again, just because of how long an ad is. All I want to do is see my stats and of course there’s a minute ad. Even to just to load the game takes one ad that is anywhere from 30s to I minute, which is stupid. Fix your ad system so you can exit out of your ads like all the other games do. I know a lot of other people that don’t like how you do your ads either.

Giving this a 1-star because when you earn the coins from the challenges, it won’t allow you to watch a video to receive more coins (225 instead of 25). I’ve tried every time to “watch a video for xxx coins” and not ONCE has it worked. It either doesn’t select the option (no matter how many times I try) OR my app crashes and I have to replay the challenge over. I hate games like this that make it impossible to earn credits unless it’s a digital purchase. Either fix the glitch or don’t charge as much for the add-on’s

It was ok the first or second time, but you have to wait 2-5 minutes between each game for the same ads. The same ad replays, usually 3 times and you keep clicking the X on the top right corner, then it might throw another random irrelevant game in after that. It’s very annoying and inconvenient. Deleted ChessOnline solely because of the ads they allow. Downloading the next different one right now and I hope it’s not the same. Because 5+ minutes of wait time between chess matches is not cool.

Horrible customer service. I have won 10 games that right at the end before I put the other player in checkmate it freezes and does not allow me to finish the game and then when I come back to it after a minute it is still frozen and the other player has still not made their last move. Then after 5 plus minutes I close ChessOnline and when I return to the home page it shows that I lost a game I was never able to finish. Very disappointed with not only the customer service but also the lack of accountability with each player. Playing chess is a game of honor. If you don’t have that then don’t play the game.

To many ads and now they give you a limit on “Energy” they only give you 4/5 stock energy (without spending money on more) then it cost 4 energy to play literally one single game and then you have to wait almost an hour for 1 energy so that would be 4-5 hours until you can play literally ONE more game whether you win or lose you have to wait another 4 hours. My end opinion What a money scheme. This is sad because it’s one of the best looking and set up chess games out… just not worth it though.

I have paid for this game. There are a lot of issues.
Edited: there supposed to a 1 minute time limit for each move. Many time my opponents would not do their move hours. On one occasion I remember I send bed and woke up next morning the game was as I let it yesterday. It is like joke game.
1. The game suddenly crashes and closes, so you lose everything.

2. There are few options to chat or talk with the opponent, which means you are most likely playing agains computer (who know there a real person on the other side).
3. The coin strategy is made the way that no matter what you are losing. For example, let say you bet 500 coins, if lose, you lose 500 coins; if you win, you get 750 coins (500 coins was already your), which mean you win half of what you bet. In another words, if lose two matches you have to win four matches to compensate the lost ones.
4. No customer service.
5. Very little option in general (profile picture, color, chat, not 3D....)

Do not waste your time or money on this game.

I never leave bad reviews. Usually I just delete a trash app and move on but this one is trash on a whole new level. Tell me why level 4 is literally impossible to beat, there are endless ads before and enter every single game, the “play online” half the time is clearly the freaking computer seeing as it take the opponent 0 seconds after every one of my moves to make their move and the fact that you have to use lives to play is absolutely ridiculous on top of not being able to hit undo nearing the end of the game if it’s a stalemate like you can on other chess apps. At the end of the game it forces you to spend coins to view the “analysis” and won’t let you view the finished game board. I’m trying to learn and hone in my chess skills but I can’t do that if it won’t even let me study the board at the end of the game! It’s extremely frustrating! Do not download this game!!!

This game allows you to play 4 games every 24 hours or you have to watch 30 second ads which don’t even allow you enough energy for 1 game. For every 30 second ad you get 3 energy but every game costs 4 energy, did I mention you can only stack 10…so you can play 2 games before having to watch ads nonstop, also they take energy when an opponent forfeits even if the game just began. If you want to buy energy it is $7 US dollars for 10 games worth of energy that’s almost $1 a game

When I downloaded ChessOnline , there was add on it. No big deal, I thought, so I spent 3.99 for no adds and cool looking map. At first, there wasn’t any adds, which I was expecting for. But the next day, I went to go play some chess, and I started seeing adds. I was disappointed, I don’t usually spend money for no adds, only if the game is worth the money, which this game totally is, but when you pay money to remove adds, and they come back after a few days, is just so upsetting.

you need to remove the feature of stalemate. I have a picture of a screenshot where it is obviously checkmate and the stupid computer model called it a stalemate, my opponent, the computer, and only one person and that was the king. Multiple times I have won the game or was within five or six moves of winning the gameand the stalemate feature comes up when it wasn’t a stalemate within five more moves. The computer would’ve lost.

Hello. I love the game, design, aesthetics, etc. but I have a very big issue with a particular bug. I’m not sure how folks exploit it, but I am in a position to win several games (blitz mode) and then the opponent either minimizes ChessOnline or something, let’s time run out and then I don’t get the ELO and I don’t get the coins. Then I end up having to watch an ad after I won which is really annoying. I usually pay to support games that I love but I cannot support a game that either programmed a bug into the game or the fact that I win and I still lose anyway. I would love a reply back to explore the bug because I hate when people use unfair play just to be spiteful after they lose it’s so childish.

I like the gameplay and I always get matcha but I dislike the coin system. You put in 300 coins and so does your opponent but you only receive 100 in winnings but if you lose you lose 300. That’s a little scam like to make you buy coins. The win total should be higher. Also the AI on level 6 is almost impossible to beat. Other than that I enjoy ChessOnline .

I like how they implemented the 60s per turn game mode on ChessOnline. I’ve downloaded other chess apps and they all have an overall time limit. When has chess ever been a game to rush? By far, the best chess app out. Would have rated it a 5 star but you have to watch ads to earn bolts to play, part of ChessOnline I do not like. But overall, if you want a good thinking chess match, this is ChessOnline .

I be totally up during a match and all the sudden it’ll say draw or I lost due to time duration ran out when I totally already made my move.
Overall I enjoy chess and this isn’t a bad online version of being able to play people all around the globe. I just feel the score rating and match ups plus the disconnect errors could be up graded.

ChessOnline is:
helpful, clean, and responds possitively/accurately.

ChessOnline is not:
Battlechess 2021, new puzzles, extra frills.

What you get:
- Online play with a good matching system (I've never failed to find a game with over 50 in 2 months)
- fair tiering. Casual players can make it to level 3 or 4 against the computer and it runs all the way up to... Well I haven't beaten 6 yet, honestly
- online tier are "or higher" style. So as move up you have access to higher tiers. ...and you still have access to lower tiers.

For online matches it uses a "wager" system for matches that pays 1-to-2. So you have to earn gold solving puzzles ("Mate in 'x' moves" puzzles which get more difficult as you progress) to support a win rate < 2-to-1 in online play. So it really pushes players to improve to keep playing in the online community.

I don’t have a widely varied background with computer chess games , but yours is the best I have played ,by far. There’s good graphics (clean & elegant, not gaudy) , and just enough “zing” to the sound effects . I guess the advancement goes to level 10 ; plenty enough challenge for me since I seem to be stuck at level 6 ! Thanks for a good addition to my new iPhone.

Lost so many games because of “internet disconnect” …. It happens enough times where I took time out to write a review about it. I know my internet WiFi is good. No other game gives me that prompt about weak WiFi.

Other than that it’s good. Just be prepared to have your elo rank go down because of “disconnect”

Please put in the ability to turn off the clock

I got a response from the developer saying that there is no clock against the computer.

I don’t want to play against the computer I want to play with my friends with an option to turn off the clocks. Some of my friends stopped playing because they are rushed in their choices when playing. The developer is not going to take that into consideration.
