Great Game - Hateful Political Ads

This is a game that I spend most my time playing on my phone. I truly enjoy it, however I saw an enormous amount of negative campaign ads through the lead up to the US Presidential election and the Georgia special election in January for two senate seats. Most of the negative ad were in support of the GOP candidate. I was very disgusted by the ads, but still I played. I will continue to play as the damage is done. I did not have the wherewithal to write this review sooner, but to the maker of X2Blocks, please be warned that future delivery to me of these types of ads will not be met by the same passive action. I will delete X2Blocks , and surely request the same of my friends and family. Like many who do not think politics should be in sports, I don’t think paid politically ads should be forced upon those who play your games. Sure I have the ability pay to have the ads removed, but should I just to avoid nonsensical advertisement that you obviously support? Please do better in 2021. I know I will by deleting your app and not using any of your other apps.

My Two Cents

Before I complain I want to make clear that I like this game a lot, it’s very much like 2048 but different enough that it feels like a stand alone game. Despite this the main issue I have is the ads. Specifically speaking random pop ups that take you straight to X2Blocks Store, and when you try to go back it will often take you to the same place multiple times, I understand ad breaks and all but I feel that it should be an ad that you can easily exit out of. Similarly I’ve noticed issues with some ads where you can’t exit out and it sits on a still image. This is especially annoying when you watch an ad for gems or to continue with the current game and having to exit out of the game and not get the reward. The last thing I’ve noticed (particularly with garden/homescapes ads) is where you can’t exit out of the ad until it’s practically ended, and I should note that this occurs a lot during ad breaks. Despite all of this I still feel it’s a good game. I’m only leaving three stars because of the ad issues, it seems the dev team actually care and read reviews (which is better than a lot of mobile games) so hopefully they will see this and be able to fix these issues

SO much fun!! HIGHLY recommend!!

It’s just challenging enough to keep you engaged but not too difficult to be frustrating. They recently added a lot of new cool options that make the game even more fun to play to strategize getting an even higher score, plus daily “diamond” gifts.
There are ads that you can watch to earn “diamonds” (the currency to buy the helper toys). I would say about 80% of the ads have a sound-off option which is great if you like to listen to music while you play, like I do!
Their customer service is also INCREDIBLE!! There was an ad that snuck in that was freezing the game, and when I brought it to their attention they wrote back immediately and were warm and personable.
I play a LOT of puzzle games and this is the only one that I play every day and don’t get bored with!

Fun - and addictive

Warning - you will get addicted to playing this game. It’s fun, and challenging, and a very good test of strategy. Sometimes what looks like a great move will leave you with an “oops” if you’re not watching carefully.
One problem is that as you get better, the games last a long time. I usually play for about 15 minutes at a time on and off, and when I scored over a trillion points it took three days and probably four hours of actual game playing.
Another plus for the game is that the developers smartly have it remember where you were. Sometimes the game will get stuck in an ad and you have to quit and restart. Fortunately the game remembers where you were and you don’t lose your hard work.

Also worth noting that if you want to wait through lots of adds, you can essentially play forever just by grabbing up points and using the tools. Hence the highest scores in the game look to be somewhere over 10^80. I can only imagine how long that took.

One suggestion for the developers would be to include a “replay” feature where you can show your friends the last cool move you just made. (I know there’s an “undo” option where you can change the previous move, but it burns up valuable points and I don’t want to change my move, just show it to my wife when there’s a 15-block combination!)

Great game, but some major problems…

The game is excellent. The gameplay is unique from other games I’ve played and feels quite engaging. The problems I’ve experienced are with the application, not the gameplay.

The first problem is the frequency of the ads. Ads roll automatically every 2-5 minutes, fully stopping the gameplay and making you wait for as long as 60 seconds before resuming gameplay. This is an unacceptably high ad frequency to the point where it literally affects gameplay, and if the developers see this review, I would wish for the ad frequency to be lowered to perhaps one every 10 or even every 15 minutes.

The second problem is the application’s effect on my phone’s hardware. After playing the game for 20-30 minutes, my phone heats up drastically, experiences rapid battery drain and slows to a crawl. These are all signs that X2Blocks is taxing my phone’s resources heavily. I am using an iPhone 12 Mini on iOS 15.4, so my phone’s age is not the problem, and I have plenty of storage free, which leads me to the conclusion that X2Blocks is either poorly optimized or coded in such a way that it can eat up as many system resources as it wants.

Keep in mind, I actually truly enjoy this game. But these two problems make it impossible to become truly immersed in the experience because while the gameplay is excellent, the application itself is fundamentally flawed.

Happily surprised

I have enjoyed playing this game for quite a while now. I have even bought gems occasionally, when I have the funds, to show my appreciation to the devs (like in a couple of other apps I use regularly). Now, a day or two ago, I started having issues with a particular ad, not letting me get the bonus gems promised. I reached out through Support in X2Blocks , and got a prompt response. I kind of felt my issue wasn’t really addressed, so I replied. Again, a prompt response came and the ad in question has is been removed. **I am impressed** Countless apps I have played where the devs are non responsive and (seemingly, at least) uncaring about their users. Not here. This makes me feel like my money, when I can spend it, is spent well. Keep up the good work!

Unplayable. Buggy game & drains your battery

I've always loved playing this game but recently the game has been very laggy. I'll place a block and it'll take forever to register and sometimes it closes X2Blocks by itself. When I reopen X2Blocks , I'll lose recent progress that I made. Other times I will close X2Blocks myself because it will take way too long to load the blocks. Which yet again, I will lose some of my progress by doing. Its very frustrating. Unfortunately, I can not play this game unless my phone is on a charger. My phone dies way too fast while playing it. Not to mention, the ads can be really frustrating. I keep getting this ad on the game that says "Download the new and approved 2x block" not sure if the developers actually made a new version of this game and are advertising it in the game, but I feel like thats not the case and the ad is using this game as a way to get more downloads. At this point, the game is too laggy and drains too much battery to the point it's unplayable.

Love it

I love this game so much I barely just started playing it today and it’s just so fun I mean it tells you when ads are coming and I has like kind of like very little ads which is good and it’s a little complicated but I still like it because it’s a pretty fun he’s like my type of game and I really like it this game deserves five stars because it doesn’t have that many ads which is good but most games have like dozens of ads and he like has this is a really good game and I really like it and I have earned a bunch of points sound like diamonds I don’t we call them and yeah I would like it have a nice day whoever is reading this

Fun commingled with frustration

No doubt is a fun and compulsively engaging game but it doesn’t take long to feel that you are being dragged into a shredder of infinite and, worse still, repetitive and long-winded ads. So I paid the $4.99 for the ad-free version, which of course turns out not to be quite that. To continue with a game that has run out of solutions you must watch 2-3 ads to acquire the gems needed. It would be one thing if the ads had any competent algorithms but instead you are fed the same rotation of 3 videos which have the opposite effect of enticing you, and in fact, drive you to resent what is being sold, which is not a service to either the programmers paying for the ad spots or the player. I’m probably going to delete the game soon as i have done with so many similar apps that use torture as a surrogate for real challenge.

Fun little number game even with the ads

This is a really fun little game to relax with...you have to concentrate enough to remember your powers of 2 and to avoid blocks accidentally going where you don’t intend, but there is no time pressure or irritating hard-sell tactics to break your zen.

As far as the ads go, unless you choose to go for additional prizes, you don’t even have to watch the full ad; you can skip after 5 seconds, which is quite reasonable in my opinion.

The only thing I encountered that deducts a star is that I had a period of a few days to a week where it refused to connect for ads to get your daily prizes or multiply your reward. This was true whether on my WiFi or LTE and my other games were able to pull their ads just fine, so I am assuming it was server-side rather than client side.

Fortunately I waited it out and didn’t delete, and everything came back online as good as ever. :-)

(Sorry devs, due to the transient nature of the problem I won’t be able to replicate it/get screenshots for you.)

Anyway, if you can be patient with the ads, this is a solid recommend. :-)

Great game...but *update*

I’ll start by saying that I really like this game. However, I’m having problems with ads just popping up and going straight to X2Blocks Store. This happens frequently and usually multiple times within seconds. I understand the “ad breaks” but these random ones are driving me crazy. These are the only reasons I give a three star rating because this game is great in spite of this. Thanks

***edit*** Shortly after writing this review, the problem seems to have been corrected. I appreciate the attention given to this. I have since changed my rating from 3 to 5 stars. Thanks again, great game

By

I’d give 5 stars but....

The game is pretty decent for late night can’t sleep. My issue is the random add breaks. When I’m in a zone, scoring high and with only one row of blocks with each being over 2048, I don’t want to stop even for 10 seconds lol. And I’m still trying to find where I can pay to remove adds. At least wait until a player is done or has sat on the game without moving for 3-5min before you play a add. If they’re stuck that long they probably need a break. Dropped a star because of the reply this morning lol. 10min of play and I watched 25 add lol no lie. This should fit with scamming games but those don’t even force you to watch a add after every third move. Who needs to be alerted stopping the game to show you scored a huge block.....people can see with their own eyes.

Problem with the ads

This is a great game - well designed and fun to play, but when the developers take on ads that are designed to stall the game, it’s beyond frustrating. I downloaded the game tonight, played for a few hours and then got stuck in an ad for fantasy sports, and there was no way to get back to the game. I decided to let it run, and I timed it for more than 10 minutes before I finally gave up and quit the game entirely. Fix the ads problem, and I’ll try again. If it continues, I’ll be moving on. Too bad if I have to give this game up. I really enjoyed the little bit of play I had.

incredibly fun and kinda a strategy game

I love this game so much! It’s my go to game on my phone now. The in app purchases for diamonds are like the most reasonable prices for how many diamonds they give you, but I usually watch the ads as it gives you SO MANY DIAMONDS. I love that the game doesn’t glitch or randomly close and lose your progress like some games do… One thing I wish there was was an ‘Undo’ you could buy with diamonds. I often place a block in the wrong spot. Also, I would like for maybe themes and different colors be an option in the game. This game is really satisfying and stimulating, i suggest it!!

one of the best games! but only a few issues..

Honestly, i have very little to complain about. This is one of THE best games ive played. its very straightforward and entertaining. I could play this for hours straight and not get bored. yes, there are many ads, but it give you free diamonds, so its fine anyways.

one of the complaints i have is that the ads ruin the game, one thousand percent.
although this is an amazing game, and yes i do understand you need ads to make money. But, it does get kind of frustrating. An ad pop up will just happen when youre not expecting it. As i stated, its not that big of an issue since you get free diamonds.

another complaint i have is the ads that pop up. Some arent very appropriate. Ive gotten some ads that are political, and i honestly dont even know what they were advertising. Ive also gotten ads that i cant skip. I have to close out the entire game and re-open it.

Other than that, amazing game. its very fun!

Fatal flaw

I have been enjoying this game for months…until I opened it today. It said I needed to download the update - ok, fine,I have no problem with that. I got the update, went back to the game. It gave me a black screen with a white box and wording which said I had to upload the 2022 update. Thinking that perhaps something had gone wrong with the update, I went ahead and clicked on the upload box. Turns out that it was trying to make me download a completely different game (and I already have that game, or a very similar version of it).

This is NOT acceptable. Both games are now deleted. I will get rid of any other games I have from this developer and will not download any more. Too bad I can’t give zero stars. Especially since the game was enjoyable, until this. Very sad, very disappointed, seriously annoyed.

Totally changed my mind

I wrote a bad review before, but what I didn’t realize is this isn’t a number game, this is an AD REVIEW game... BUT... to break up the endless ads, X2Blocks makers threw in a clever number game that you get to periodically play. Don’t worry... the endless ads are still there whenever you want them. Pause for a minute to talk to someone? BAM! Ad ready and waiting with your first tap back on the screen. Take a phone call? BAM! A fresh ad is right there when you return. Switch to another app and then right back? BAM! Right back to AdVille. Of course there are plenty of ads along the way... sometime more than one per minute. If you love ads... and who doesn’t... THIS is the game for you. As far as the number game, it’s fun but don’t worry... it won’t get much in the way of the ads.

Too many ads & in app purchases do not work

I really enjoyed this game but it has recently been updated with way too many disruptive ads. Ads come up if you pause the game, if you go out of the game & go back in you get ads, if you swipe to read a text (without leaving the game) you get an ad, and you get random ads in the middle of the game. Having optional videos to earn gems are good enough to encourage your players to watch ads. There’s no need to have added all the disruptive ads.

The worse part is I have been trying to purchase the ad free version and it won’t work. I’ve reached out to the developers and they haven’t been able to help.

So frustrating! Unless the developers can fix these key issues I’m not sure if I’ll be playing anymore.

Good game, Ads ruin it though..

This game is super fun. It’s really nice and it’s easy and hard at the same time. If that was all i would give this a 5 star.

Buuut, there is one big design flaw.. this game has SOOO many ads. They literally pop up IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GAME. It does offer the choice to have no ads but, still you have to pay and if this game is for 4 up little kids won’t stay on X2Blocks very long with so many ads. I do have to mention thought that each time you watch and add you get 5 diamonds. But i don’t really see the point in having the diamonds so yeah.

Overall good game just way to many ads. And also to get rid of the ads monthly you have to pay 2 dollars and to get rid of them in all 5. But I kinda feel like they are gonna have you pay more that 5 dollars. I have also seen a lot of reviews that say that the price range to pay for ads is actually way more and doesn’t last as long as it says it will.

Only get this game is you don’t mind adds popping up IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GAME. I would love to see what the workers at X2 Blocks will say to my rating. Giving this game one more chance , don’t make me regret it.

Fun!

This game is so addicting. I had an almost identical “dropping numbers & merge” app for a few weeks but the ads drove me insane. I grabbed this one instead and love it! The game saves where you left off if you have to put it down, and the ads are minimal. The undo button is great and I really like that you aren’t forced into making a split second decision based on time. It would however be fun to have that option for a “quick play” type of game. The way it is now, it’s more strategy than beat the clock. Definitely keeping X2Blocks!

It’s Just Fun

There’s really no point to this game. It’s just fun. You can play as long as you like. At some point, you’ll run out of moves. When that happens, you can either start over or obtain gems. You have two choices for obtaining gems: buy them or watch ads. Well, you don’t have to actually watch the ads; you just have to let them play.

The ads in this game are for real products and services: cars, insurance, credit cards, etc. You might really want to watch some of the ads. And except for the occasional ad break, you don’t have to watch ads every time you do something in the game.

Although the game is pointless, there are strategies for gaining points faster. The better your strategy, the fewer gems you need, the fewer ads you have to watch. It may be pointless but it isn’t mindless.

There’s also a leaderboard, so you can watch your progress against every one else.

Love it

This game is so much fun and it’s a rly good way to spend your time when you’re bored or when you’re waiting for something or someone. This is a game that doesn’t need wifi so you can play it on the go and there aren’t too many ads the developers have space out the ads nicely so you don’t have to worry about ads on top of ads along with the ads they give you free gems afterwards. I love this game so much it’s a good way to calm down and stay calm for me.

I have been playing this game for months with no issue. Now it is frozen on either the first screen or the enter screen, I can go no further forward. Tried usual stuff, turning iPad off and on etc. No joy. I don’t want to delete and reinstall as my score is the highest it’s ever been and don’t want to lose it.

I have been playing this game for some time now, however, twice now the game has started from the beginning again I’m beginning to think I’m not going to bother carrying on. Why is this happening
