I was really in the mood for a good chose your own adventure, and honestly? This really hit the spot. It’s engaging, the format is good, and it really feels like your choices matter. My main problem is the weird undercurrent of misogyny through the main storyline.
Anytime the main character meets ANY woman he feels the need to describe her “bosom.” One of the main villains is an evil priestess and even as she is literally trying to kill him he can’t stop describing how “alluring” she is.
In chapter one you have a merchants daughter added to your party. The main character belittles her both out loud and in his inner monologue CONSTANTLY and for NO REASON. He also keeps talking about how attractive she is despite the fact that she (spoiler alert) just got kidnapped and is mourning her dead father. This girl is cowering in a dungeon and the main character just keeps talking about her “delicate nose in the moonlight.”
Anyway, cool concept, mostly cool story. The weird misogyny of it is just so off putting that I don’t think I can continue reading. But hey, it was a good way to kill time for an afternoon.
It’s basically just a short story on the go. I use it when I’m going places, y’know? Just bored out of my mind. Funny thing is, whenever I play this to escape a boring situation, I continue playing OUT of that situation. I’m not even kidding. I could be walking through a library, and then I’ll still be trying to find out what happens next if said library was burning down. Well anyways, the authors you guys picked were excellent and descriptive, that’s something I can appreciate. However, I did do my research, and no matter how good you do in the stories, you’ll find yourself having not the required amount of coins In like, the fourth issue of a series. Now, to me this wasn’t a problem because you can just watch a 30 second ad to be rewarded one coin. Except, most stories cost 38, and you can only watch about 4 ads before you have to wait THREE HOURS to get more. This is a problem for me. I would have to wait over NINE HOURS to get enough money to do a story that would take me under 15 minutes to get the highest rank. (Not judging the breadth of a story, they’re awesome)
The writing is genuinely very good, the stories are engaging and enjoyable and I haven’t noticed spelling or grammatical errors. The artwork is… well, pretty terrible, but that’s forgivable. They’re a nice touch, but these stories would be enjoyable even with no artwork at all. My biggest gripe with the game is that it is merely the ILLUSION of choice, much like Telltale’s The Walking Dead video games, where it may SEEM like you have a ton of options and your choices matter, but ultimately you’re going to end the chapters in the same places that I did, the same people will be alive or dead, etc. As long as you live through the chapter, your choices really don’t matter. Still, I’ve had a great time so far and I’d recommend giving this a go if you’re a fan of D&D or reading dark fiction.
I downloaded this on a whim since I have always been interested in Dungeons & Dragons and this looked like it could fill some of that interest. It did not disappoint. I have had a bunch of fun playing through the Wizard’s Choice story, the writing is engaging and I had fun working through the choices. Watching some ads to unlock further stories is not too bad, just be sure to watch all 3 you are allowed to each time you’re prompted to avoid having to wait to unlock the next chapter.
My one frustration is that as the story progressed there seemed to be fewer and fewer possible paths to success. Especially in the final chapter that I am on now, I feel there is too much trial and error, memorizing the correct choices instead of allowing me to enjoy the story and just restart if I make a stupid choice.
Overall I would recommend this game, I am excited to see what the other storylines have to offer!
Honestly, I’m not one to play these kinds of games let alone read a book. But when I decided to start reading this interactive story I had no Idea how much of an adventure I would be taking. Getting know some of the characters and rooting for them honestly was super enjoyable. Trying to make the right choices for what you think is right for you and those with you was remarkably challenging. I would sit there contemplating my options for minutes. Also too imaging the Epic battles and insurmountable moments really brings this to life. Truly some engaging stories and you’ll need to strategize in order to prevail for the best results. And what is really amazing too is how even when you think certain decisions are the best you realize that in order to succeed you really need to put yourself in the mind of the one you play. Taking on the role of a rogue assassin or a young man still learning or a powerful Second-in-command individual are just a few of the characters you get to be. Great job guys. Would gladly pay for books with stories like these in them.
So I downloaded this just mindlessly looking for a new game to play because I get bored of phone games pretty easily. Came across this and thought “hey why not?”, and now I’m totally glad I did. This is very interactive, the story is great, the situations are ones that make you think about the outcome, and I love that they’re pictures every so often to kinda show what’s happening. I like that kind of commitment to the readers. And I love the humor, to lighten things up and keep readers interested (at least it keeps me interested). Only thing is I think there should be some explanation how the in game currency and morale work. Life and mana I get, but as far as I know, morale and gold haven’t played a role. Then again I just finished the first chapter and will absolutely continue to the next!
Initially I downloaded Medieval Fantasy as a way to pass time on a long flight (with my teen son as a traveling companion).
The 2 of us had a great time playing together and our flight passed quickly by. The the author of this RPG is engaging. Getting through adventures is NOT easy! (what great game IS easy?) Stick with it and learn from any poor choices along the way.
I’d like to thank the developers for providing the player an immersive and engaging experience. There are options to pay using actual money to advance your game, however it is NOT mandatory. Medieval Fantasy is a rare gem. In an app store filled with highly advertised (costly) options... Medieval Fantasy is the REAL deal. Just download it. You’ll see.
Not even sure how I found this book…
Probably TMI but had been feeling increased anxiety from work and was looking for an escape. Had been a while since I did any reading for pleasure. I found this to be VERY entertaining. Having you interact with the story made you feel like the main character(s). It immediately sucked me in and for two days I had trouble putting this story down. Incredibly well written, character development, and original story. The action kept coming along with the hilarity. The amount packed into this story (in a natural way) blew me away. In short, from some random guy reviewing a book app: I highly recommend!
I loved playing through the first chapter. The twists in the story had me excited and sometimes heartbroken and wowed. I cannot to keep playing through the rest of the story. In addition, I LOVE the idea to have a rating for how well you did in a chapter. And the trophies are a nice add on, making you feel like you really made choices that meant something. Wonderful app. Although there are times when you cannot read all the text so you have to make it as small as possible for it all to show on screen. In an update I hope that there may be a scroll option, since having the words so small does cause a bit of strain. A dark mode would be nice. All together though I will continue to use DungeonsandDecisionsRPG.
Not invasive or copious amounts of ads, and they are rewarded. (Ads can really kill a game for most users).
I really enjoy good storytelling and although these seem a little rushed in world building and plot development, it is immersive. I want to add that I prefer more opportunities to make consequential choices. The game provides one often enough to make you feel the role play but there are things that I wish to control/change with my choices. You’re fulfilling choices of a pre established character not created by you, so it makes sense.
Gave it 5 stars because I am truly enjoying my experience of it(I have only used the free version, premium takes ads away and offers one or two new role play stories that seem pretty extensive).
This game has SO MUCH content! Each story is easily enough content to satisfy one game… By the end of chapter 3 of the first story, I knew purchasing all the content would be a good investment. However, $20 is a bit of a commitment for an all-at-once payment… you may get more sales if you divide the stories into separate apps, allow the first 1-2 chapters free, & then require a $3-$5 payment for the remainder of the story.
Anyway, one of the things I REALLY love about this game is the artwork! It is beautifully drawn & accurately depicts what is taking place in the story. Another great aspect to this game is how yes, all choices still follow the same-ish storyline, but choices you make don’t just affect the next page of the story, but are reflected throughout & can alter the story much further down the road. Definitely worth recommending to friends!
I’m not usually one for choose your own adventure games, especially free ones (I find most of the time the choices fall flat and rarely fulfill me). Yet this is genuinely one of the most interesting, engaging games i’ve downloaded recently. Every choice feels meaningful, and the outcomes feel real, and the branching ways the story develops based on your choices remain interesting throughout each of the stories. You’d be stupid not to take it for free as it’s given, and paying for the premium is well worth it too in my opinion. Thankfully, you can manage to get tons and tons of enjoyment out of this game without spending a cent (something many mobile game devs seem to throw out the window). Despite that I still felt the urge to pledge some money, something I rarely if ever do, which is truly saying something.
Thoroughly enjoy playing/reading , reminds me of the Choose Your Own Adventure series I read as a teenager back in the 80’s, but with the fantasy element of the D&D I played then too. And while I get the need for the scoring and saving setup, I am not entirely sure how it completely works, and the only feature I would change is the ability to play through a second time under a different save file to see how it impacts the next chapter play through and the effects on one’s ability to advance. So far I have only done the Wizards tale, but if the writing is the same for the others I can’t wait to eventually unlock them. While I haven’t purchased the premium package, for those who have more time than a middle aged dad with little kids, it is probably a better option to get to some great lite role playing/ interactive reading. For sure , heed the content warnings, this is definitely not for younger kids. Again, really enjoying this so far and would recommend it highly to anyone who loves science fiction and fantasy.
I’ve only completed a few chapters/“choices,” but so far the game is amazingly developed. The story line is fully rounded, swiftly paced, and a hella lot of fun. I’m pleasantly surprised at the quality of this mobile game and would highly recommend it for anyone looking to have a good time roleplaying, or just looking for an interactive read. Playing either strategically or true to character both work well enough, though I will say that anyone looking for customization of some sort has the wrong game. If you’re picky about pronouns in roleplay scenarios (and the occasional misogynistic commentary) then you might need to look elsewhere. If you’re willing to look past that for a DND-like mobile experience, then I can’t recommend this more strongly. I’ve never written an app review before but this one more than deserves it. Definitely give it a try.
I have hardly ever read as a hobby. I enjoy reading, but I am more a fan of being a part of the story than taking up the role of a spectator. I have played D&D for years, enjoying games similar to it that put you in the shoes of characters -being part of the story. I have never looked forward to reading like I do on DungeonsandDecisionsRPG.
So far, I have read all of Wizard’s Choice - which I was pleasantly surprised by - and followed it up by buying the Premium to gain access to “Paladins.” The change of pace was a crazy adjustment, as I had been used to making decisions as a morally gray wizard, but now I am two books in to the Paladins series (Book 2, Clash of Faith had me enraptured) and cannot wait to start the third.
If you are someone that appreciates storytelling as well as the idea of being part of the story, I strongly recommend you to give DungeonsandDecisionsRPG a try.
I downloaded this because I was bored but got so immersed into the story every choice seems so important something basic I did in the beginning lead to a whole story arc I don’t know if my choice in the beginning would have changed the story completely but everything I did lead deeper into a story arc stuff that seemed almost trivial feels like such a huge impact in the story I was so shocked at the part I just finished that I had to make a review I ended up playing this from 10 pm to 4 am I would love to go into depth on the story I’m on but that’s spoilers, anyway game is amazing so far and I haven’t even fully played one class the life and mana system gives the story that extra thing like in some tight spaces you gotta sacrifice some mana to save health or sacrifice some health to save a little mana (I’ve only played the wizard story so I can’t say much about the rogue paladin etc)
Also I love the achievements they are normally pretty freaking hilarious
I started playing D&D around 1983 with the revised Basic boxed set and became obsessed. Since getting together with friends wasn’t always the easiest thing to do, I took some joy in the handful of solo adventure modules available but more than anything I loved the “Choose Your Own Adventure” style books by Rose Estes.
Revenge of the Rainbow Dragons, Pillars of Pentegarn, and Return to Brookmere are some of those titles although Mountain of Mirrors was the very best of the lot. I still own these books and despite being an “old person” now, I still pick one up sometimes purely for nostalgia’s sake.
This game has all the quality of writing, playability, and accessibility of those long treasured books from almost 40 years ago. I am enthusiastic supporter, look forward to future installments from the creators, and sincerely hope enough people take an interest to keep this a financially viable endeavor for many more stories/games.
to be honest I’ve always liked choose your own adventure games like telltale and the like but I’ve never played a game that has so much detail and immersion as this especially coming from a MOBILE game I was honestly surprised at how well the characters and dialogue are written how the story unfolds and the awesome and unique choices you get to make and what was even more surprising is how much content there actually is it took me almost a day to finish one chapter (most likely because I’m a slow reader 😂😂) and expected it to be finished another thing I can appreciate is how fair you made the unlocking system you can get them from achievements replaying the chapters or watching vids so it’s not just BUY THIS BUY THIS in your face like other similar games you guys are doing awesome here and I cannot want to see what more you have in store I actually hella excited when I learned it wasn’t just wizards choice have a blessed day y’all
A genuinely good experience and read. Is this winning a Nobel prize in literature? Who can say, I’m not on the committee. But it’s also not trying to and that’s why it’s great. The stories written by Sam Landstrom are exceptionally fun and entertaining. His characters feel real and human (even when they’re demons). The choices he gives you aren’t always black and white and that’s what stands out in the gameplay. The other stories are done well, but his reel you in and immerse you in their world. I would read a series based on the characters, especially that of Rooster or Azizella. It does become clear that the choices you make need to align with each specific characters morals to score higher at the end of each chapter. I bought the premium version of DungeonsandDecisionsRPG and would again; I also bought Sam’s book Metagame hoping to read more of his style. Patiently waiting for more chapters to be added for each character.
4 of 5 stars only because I bought the premium years ago and it takes sooo long for them to come out with more of each story and it seems to be a chapter at a time in between these long waits. I can’t say I’d buy the premium now knowing this but fortunately I already made that decision a few years back. Just picture your favorite author releasing his books a chapter at a time :/ My personal favorite is a Ranger’s Choice but I also have a love for Rangers from Aragorn and Ranger’s Apprentice by John Flanagan to every DnD character I have played being a ranger. That has not stopped me from enjoying the other stories almost as much though.
