Useless-I don’t love birds for $40 taken out of my account

I downloaded the trial version because I wondered what bird was being so loud outside. I’m not a bird enthusiast or anything. Of course I was automatically charged the $40 yearly price instead of the $3.99 monthly price. No apps with integrity in their product have to deceive people into something that they don’t want. Any such contract has no legal binding as a signature is only proof of deception. Contracts are agreements between two parties. What is written and signed only proves that two parties were either in agreement or one was deceived. Let’s look at the fine print. It’s “fine” because it’s meant to deceive. Otherwise it would be written clearly in bold. And there wouldn’t be unhappy people. This isn’t a game show and we’re sore losers! The solution is simple. You pay for what you use. No harm no fowl. If you have a useful product then people will happily pay for it. That’s why companies with integrity withstand the erosion of time. This applies to all apps that iTunes have yet to afford the courtesy to their customers with this free trial madness! This has got to stop! It leaves us with a bad taste i our mouth. Shame on iTunes and Shame on you!

I love the app

Most of the time an idea comes to your brain you have to see if already exists and guest what, it does. I have been taking pictures of birds I am being feeding for a while, specially sine shelter in place. Today I thought of checking on to see if there is an app to identify the birds I have been taking photos of. I have used an app to help me identify plants because I love the Latin name. I am so happy to find this one and I love it. I will upgrade ASAP. Keep up the good work.

Great app. A little overpriced in my opinion.

I’ve only been using PictureBird for about a week but in a couple different states. It seems to work well most of the time. It comes up “unknown” a few too many times on good pictures for me to give it a 5 rating. It’s also a bit overpriced for a casual user. If you travel a lot for birding and want an app that gives you good results most of the time, this is good. I DO like the fact it tells you a little bit about the bird also.

So many birds!

I live down the street from a state park in Southern California. On my way to it (1/4 mile walk) I usually see 10 different species. Orioles and doves nest in our backyard and multiple hummingbird species dive bomb each other for a seat at the plastic feeders on our front porch. PictureBird helps me catalog all of them as well as identifying exactly what it is I’m taking pictures of. I’ve learned so much and PictureBird has transformed simply walking my dog into genuine treasure hunt. Thanks!

Really incredible!

This is really cool my favorite thing about PictureBird is that you can use the sound that the bird makes to identify it which I love. Because if you can’t see the bird you can still identify it because of the sounds that it makes. But the only thing that I do not like is that it wants you to buy unlimited identifications which can get in the way it other than that it is really amazing.

New Birder

Tried using other bird identification apps, but they were all so complicated. This one is so easy to use. Love being able to either take a picture or upload one, then push a button to get it identified. It’s surprisingly very accurate. The couple of times it missed the bird identified the one it picked was close to the one submitted. Has really made identification so much easier!

I love being able to identify the birds at my feeders!

I live in N Idaho and I have a large variety of birds that come to my feeders. It changes with the seasons and from year to year. I’ve loved feeding the birds and now I can properly identify them. One of my favorite parts of PictureBird is the information about the birds. I know what they like to eat, nesting preferences and when to start leaving my hummingbird feeders out. Very helpful!

I do not understand why this app does not employ location technology

I am using PictureBird with Sibley Bird book and of course location is a central piece of narrowing choices. Since so many apps use location services for no apparent reason, why doesn’t PictureBird which would benefit so much. I am also confused as to why some birds do not even have a photo. That does not strike me as a finished product or something that you can ask money for. I’m using it for fun but definitely seeing major shortcomings along the path which seem easily fixable by developers.

I am shocked at what this app can capture

When I try to take a picture of a bird, they usually don’t sit there and pose for me. It’s difficult to get close and the slightest movement just makes them flutter and fly off. PictureBird captures them from every possible angle and still identifies them! I have one picture of a bird hanging upside down belly up on a suet feeder and it identified it. I am so impressed!

Identifies Bird calls

I walk in the early mornings when the light is low and the birds are singing, so for years I've wondered about all the different calls I hear without being able to see the birds. The internet was hardly any help. PictureBird identified them for me, finally, with no trouble! Glad I downloaded it.

Two out of sixteen birds identified correctly

It is challenging to get close enough to get a big picture of wild birds, so I am discounting the error rate a bit. However, I am a Florida resident and PictureBird keeps suggesting that my photos are of Australian and New Zealand birds. For example , type of ibis with its distinctive beak was identified as a black swan. A red wing black bird with the wing color clearly showing was also mis-identified. That one should have been easy. It also identified similar pictures of the same bird as different birds. I was looking for an app that could help me identify the tougher ones but tested it out on species I knew. Very disappointed!

Horrible

Honestly I had high hopes for PictureBird but it didn’t even identify the birds correctly. I sent an email quite a while ago to request a refund because even though I stopped the subscription somehow I was still charged for it. It took $40 out of my account and my account went negative and my bank charged me more money for them taking out money that was supposed to have been canceled. No answer from any of PictureBird makers. Highly upset. Down that money that I desperately needed. Don’t trust PictureBird when they do things like this. 😡

Rating this app

Spot on for. few of the photos I submitted!
One identification I disagreed with, although I can see why this happened. I submitted the picture of a Wood Duck- which your app identified as a Mallard Duck. The Mallard female is quite similar, but we don’t see traditional Mallard males with the bright green heads. Your app identified another photo as a Mottled Mallard.
I still have to use this more as I just started to use PictureBird!

I love this app!

PictureBird is spot on when identifying various birds. I love taking photos while walking thru the preserves or even at home. It's especially helpful when we're walking and I'm not sure what I'm looking at. PictureBird solves the problem. I also love that this is done all by the free version! Thanks for developing PictureBird.!

Good app - if you’re quick

By the time I could zoom in and get it focused, frequently the bird had moved or flown off. Without getting a good, clear shot the info given was incorrect. Multiple shots sometimes resulted in multiple results. I’m sure of this because I tested it on birds I know first. Funny note - one shot the bird flew off causing me to capture a chipmunk that was behind it instead. Came up as a wren. Clever disguise, little wren. 😉

Picture Bird

PictureBird might be good if you go to a zoo and are 5 feet or closer to the bird but so far using it just for about a week it is always incorrect if you are more than 10-20 feet away. It just guesses. Compared to picture this which identifies plants with 95-98% accuracy I cannot give PictureBird greater than 5-10% accuracy if you are more than 10 feet- it also guesses based on whether the bird is on the ground or in a tall tree. PictureBird would be much improved if somehow there could be a way to magnify much better

Very Good App

I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how much I am enjoying the ability to identify the various birds in my backyard with PictureBird. Initially I was apprehensive when I saw the annual cost. However after using it for the past few days I can truly say it’s worth every penny. It has been spot on!

This app is amazing!

I would always have to use google Before I got PictureBird and there are other people there to identify it too if PictureBird didn’t get it right! It’s really easy to use and best of all- it’s entirely free! I love PictureBird so much! Five stars! I definitely recommend getting PictureBird!

Identifying

I love being able to find out so much information about birds while I am out on a hike or anywhere that I don’t have access to a book. Thank you for making this possible

Great bird ID

I’m a wildlife photographer and this is my go to app for finding out info on birds that I am u sure of their breed/species.

Only very few it was not able to identify, but that also could have had to do with picture quality.

By

Great

I used many other apps to figure out birds. PictureBird was great, it helped me figure out ducks and a bird that I helped. PictureBird does not make you spend any money. PictureBird is great definitely recommend

Wow!

I was planning to do the free trial and cancel but PictureBird is pretty amazing. I took images of our bird feeder through a glass window and dark screen on a gray day and the identification was spot on.

Not to complain but …

Am I correct in thinking I get PictureBird for the low, low price of $0 but to use it I have to pay the not so low price of (rounding up here) $20? I don't even know what to say. I'll go find someone else's app that's not so sneaky.

Don’t want this service. I deleted the app. Thanks

Help. Can’t dismiss the service. I don’t have iTunes.

Misidentified every bird call I recorded… waste of time

Ollie Langridge   1 year ago

I live in NZ where we have many endemic bird species found nowhere else. The app (recording audio birdcalls) is fairly hopeless here and gets most things wrong. Very frustrating as it is such a good idea

Very disappointed. I was charged $40 after one trial week ( which, by the way, isn’t long enough to try it out and compare to other bird apps). I have found a much better app for bird ID and will never use this app again. Cancelled so it won’t automatically renew next year but WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY!

My husband and I use this app mostly for bird calls and song. We would like to suggest that the developers consider either a filter to narrow down location or to use Location Services so the app knows where you are in order to improve the accuracy of identification. We are very happy with it but this would be a big improvement.

This app is mostly accurate, however its BIG weakness is that it always gives an answer no matter what you give it. Photos of people and pets are identified as birds. BIG weakness.

I want to cancel my prescription to picture bird. Thank you
