The main issue with CaptionThis that makes it completely useless is how you edit the text. You cannot click into a short word like “I” to save your soul. Maybe if you try 30 times. I don’t have time for that! It makes it absolutely impossible to edit correctly. Fix this, or CaptionThis is pointless.

I was so excited about CaptionThis but after 5 tries on a three minute video and CaptionThis keep shutting down and having to start over I couldn’t try again.

I spent an hour trying to get my video captioned and edited. It kept shutting down and getting stuck and I’d start again. Finally made it though and CaptionThis shut down when I was downloading my captioned video.

Maybe it’s only good for super short 15 sec videos?

I’m so disappointed in CaptionThis. I was happy at first to find a free app that added closed captions to videos. I do social media marketing for businesses and I have clients that love to do videos and since everyone’s looking at their phones nowadays and not using sound, closed captions are great to use! The first time I used CaptionThis , it was “so so”. I had to edit a few words, but I expect that to happen. The next time I went to use it, the audio kept glitching while I was trying to edit the captions, then it got stuck in one place repeating the same portion of the audio over and over and over and THEN it froze altogether!! I had to upload the video again, because I had no other option than to close out CaptionThis and then it doesn’t save any of your progress, anyway. Tried to edit again and the same thing happened. I have SOME patience, so I repeated the same process FOUR times before I finally gave up. Save yourself some time, frustration and headaches. Don’t use CaptionThis. I actually found another that does way more for video and the captions are prestine. Try “Mix Captions”. It worked like a charm!!

CaptionThis won’t work AT ALL. I tried using a video from my camera roll and it goes through the 0-100% wheel only to dump me back at the camera roll. I tried recording a video in app CaptionThis did nothing and it crashed out to my home screens. At least one other attempt at something with some other configuration also crashed CaptionThis entirely. Don’t waste your money.

Didn’t even look at the reviews...it didn’t get one word right. That part was actually comical. Where it didn’t become so comical was when I had to edit the entire video and it won’t let me change/edit where the words should pop up abs when. I had to delete the entire captioning so it started me at the end of the video. Then I tried to edit word by word, deleting the incorrect word and replacing it with the correct word to hold the spot. Still didn’t work.

It is NOT user friendly and I don’t understand way. Hoping I can get a refund, unsatisfied within 30 minutes of using CaptionThis.

Waste of money.

TERRIBLE functionality. CaptionThis glitches and crashes, none of the buttons respond when you click them or their response is delayed by at least thirty seconds (in some cases delayed by over 5 minutes). So far it has taken me 45 minutes to get through editing 15 seconds of video, and CaptionThis is still frozen and won’t let me use it.

I want my money back. I bought it today, it misses many things I said in a vid, went in to edit it and words like “a” & “I” it doesn’t have a sensitivity to even capture and edit those words. I almost edited my full 58 second video with this but I couldn’t take out the I’s or A’s so it was a complete waste of time. DO NOT BUY THIS unless they make some BIG BIG changes. I would rather put this is my computer and manually edit it for hours because at least I know I’ll be able to edit and accurately get it. Or use Apple Clips. Please fix CaptionThis, if editing were accurate and you could save, I would be satisfied.

On principle, CaptionThis looks like it should be a lifesaver for adding captions to pre-recorded videos. HOWEVER, not only do the buttons within CaptionThis not work (“pause” doesn’t pause the video, and you can’t highlight the words or scroll the video to match up with them, even though that’s exactly what it looks like it’s built to do), I’m a pretty clear speaker and the captions it came up with looked like a 5 year old’s game of MadLibs.

I’m so disappointed that I spent 2.99 on this and would love my money back so that I can spend it on a coffee. Something that actually satisfies and fulfills its promises.

Hi, I recently downloaded CaptionThis and every time I try to download the video to my phone it just stay on 100% in the screen. Like frozen and nothing else happens. I’m very disappointed, it is really a waste of time. I don’t understand how you charge money when CaptionThis still have so many bugs. I would like please to get my money back. Thank you.

I paid for this apps yet still it doesn’t work.

I read all of the 1 star reviews and somehow still gave faith to the questionable 5 star reviews and bought CaptionThis. It’s got the underlying technology that I was looking for but is so buggy that it’s anxiety-inducing and wasn’t at all able to get the job done.

Save your money and go for MixCaptions instead - I am not being paid by anyone to say this, I simply found it afterward and it did exactly what I needed - which was to have my video automatically read and captioned for my IGTV video.

Great app, but incredibly frustrating that I can’t load anything other than my camera roll, and it won’t load all of the videos in my library. Makes it pretty useless for someone like myself who does lots of prerecorded videos.

So...it works...kinda. But I have some videos where the audio is so quiet, CaptionThis isn’t even picking up that captions need to be there. So when I try to edit the captions, I have no options to add them in. I can only edit captions where CaptionThis has picked up that there are words.

TLDR: need a WAY better way to edit the captions. The interface is sloppy and has not enough control.

There could be a better way to edit the captions. Not every word was accurate and I had to flip back and forth between screens to edit the captions. Then if you leave CaptionThis you loose all of the work. There could be a “save draft” option. And I accidentally hit download which didn’t give me any options. It just went to compressing and I lost the progress I had made.

As someone who really values accessibility, I was SO excited to be able to use CaptionThis after looking into many subtitle apps. I believe making materials accessible should be low cost so CaptionThis aligned with that. It started out great with short 30-40sec video captioning for Instagram stories; I had a few edits in words, but no major issues. Today, I’ve tried two different 2.5-3min recordings and both fail in the captioning process. I’m super disappointed because I don’t mind as much fixing basic errors but for it to fail completely?! I don’t even have the opportunity to fix.

Love the different font editing. You got huge versatility there. Caption transcription is almost as good as the way you speak it. It has to be clear. I don’t mind editing and fixing a little. My biggest issue right now is that no matter what I do with the font, it always exports same small size font, no matter what I do. Which is very frustrating since I paid for CaptionThis and I cannot use is since the font is so small. Hope they fix it so I can increase the rating.
Also, I lost work when editing for a long time and switched between apps. So “save draft” is needed here too.

I love CaptionThis and it looks like the developer needs to update CaptionThis so it works with the newer phones as well as make it so the font is bigger. When I save the video out the for is tiny at the bottom of the screen.

Honestly it works pretty good and the price is perfect but there is no scrubbing feature so it doesn't allow me to go back and change specific words it might have gotten wrong.
CaptionThis is awesome other than that, will change to 5 stars once I can get the issue resolved.

Love how easy CaptionThis is getting! A lot of improvements lately. One thing that keeps messing up though is the export shows tiny font no matter what font size I select in CaptionThis . I’m giving you 5 stars anyway because I can see the changes are coming!

Great app that got the job done. It’s true that there will sometimes be issues transcribing videos, but you can easily edit and fix any problems.
