Such a GREAT APP! But...

HowToLucid is amazing!! Period. I always glance at it to remind myself of techniques through out the day, and the notification reminders are great! Except for the fact that they don’t vibrate when you get notified, it only has a banner option and a sound option. I always forget about the banners and after a while it was just “oh there’s another notification”. If the notification were able to vibrate then I would feel like I got a text and for sure look at my phone to see what or who it is. Which would be a MUCH better reminder for me than a sound (because it’s annoying to go off twice every hour) other than that, after a day or two of looking at EVERYTHING on HowToLucid , I wish it had more reading and learning material, such as scientific studies, as well as goals and bench mark for beginner lucid dreamers like myself. But like I said, the fact that HowToLucid is free and already offers what it does is great. Definitely worth the download!!

Love this app, but could use a little tweaking.

Overall this is a good app. I like the links to the videos and tutorials and it's overall simplicity. There are two things I would like to see on a future update.

First, there should be a way to only have the reality check function send notifications during a specific time period. For example, I would like to set it for random but only between 5am and 9 pm. I don't need random reminders going off when I am sleeping.

Second, the bright white background is jarring when I am entering notes about a dream during a WBTB. A dark background with lighter letters would be less disruptive if my intention is to go right back to sleep after entering a few notes about a dream in the middle if the night.

Other than those, I really like HowToLucid and would recommend.

This is, simply put, an amazing app.

For a (public) first release, this is amazing! Stefan, you truly have outdone yourself. The tutorials, reality check reminders, and the dream journal are all great! However, there are a few things that can make HowToLucid better.
To start, I have to agree with many other reviews that a white background is a little jarring. Another thing (this may be a personal problem) is that when I press done, I press back thinking that it’ll save. Of course, there is the save button for that ;) but an auto save feature would certainly be a nice addition. Lastly, a touch-less alarm for WBTB or WILD would be great, but I understand that it may be a difficult feature to implement.
Overall, this is an amazing app and I highly encourage that you download it. Thanks for taking the time to read.

Some tips for anyone

Insanely good app for free, but it took me quite a while to figure out how to set WBTB alarms and time bracket the reminders, but I finally figured it out. Here's how: (1) the term "time bracket" refers to the amount of hours during the day you want your daytime state check reminder alarms. So, for example choose 9:00AM and 5:00PM if you want all your reminders to occur from 9 to 5. (2) There is no "duration" setting whatsoever on the WBTB alarms, so the instructions to choose duration are misleading. You can only choose alarm time and sound. (3) There is a "save" button at the top right of the WBTB alarm section. I didn't even see it and was clicking the back button at top left instead, which will not save the alarm. These 3 things were the source of my initial difficulties.

Best lucid dreaming app

HowToLucid is amazing and will hopefully help me have my first lucid dream. There are only a few things that I think will really help HowToLucid. 1. Is that you should make it so that there is an option to make the reality check reminders to go off during certain times of the day and not at night. 2. You should add an alarm that you don’t have to turn off manually to help with some of the lucid dreaming techniques. 3. Add a lock to the dream journal just in case you don’t want other people to see what you have written down. Besides that I think it is an amazing app and I think you should definitely download it if you want to have a lucid dream.

AMAZING!!! But....

HowToLucid is the future of the lucid dreaming society. It has all the tools to learn how to lucid dream or progress. I’ve had HowToLucid for not that long and I’m at layer 2 currently. HowToLucid should be owned by every lucid dreamer, highly recommended and it comes at the low low price of FREE!

But... HowToLucid is needing one feature. A reality check clock let me explain, when yo I go to reality checks you should be able to make a starting time and ending time so when you go to sleep your not wasting all your reality checks while sleeping. If that makes sense!!!

Overall GREAT APP

WBTB Alarm

I really only use HowToLucid for the WBTB alarm, which is an alarm that shuts itself off so I don’t have to move or open my eyes. I was looking for something like this for a long time. It has made performing WILDs and other WBTBs much easier and is really a game-changer. It’s simple but makes a big difference, and I can fall back asleep much more easily. I don’t particularly use the reality check notifications, as I would rather think of them spontaneously, but for the WBTB alarm alone HowToLucid gets 5 stars.

Great free app!

This is a great app! Within a week of using the reality check prompts 10 times a day on random, I have been able to better recall my dreams. I can now remember more of them, larger segments and what I do remember is much more vivid than before I started using the application. HowToLucid is filled with useful information, and links to quality external pages with videos and articles relating to Lucid Dreams. The journal feature is nice too, although I prefer a physical notebook and would like to be able to export the dream Logs. Keep up the good work Stef!

Very useful

HowToLucid gives you basically overall of the basics you need to lucid dream... it gives you a whole section of info to lucid dream and what’s cool is that there is a section which reminds you random parts of the day to do reality checks, the thing is that the reminders probably can go off at night so if this could be changed it would be a great like a time given EX/ 10:00Am->10:00pm.
Overall I enjoy HowToLucid and I’m sure that I’m gonna have a lucid dream pretty soon.

I also love it with a few changes

Love the videos btw, but the option of a dark background would be awesome, as well as being able to decide when the reality check timer goes off, like a set time in between. Also a small thing is in the dream log when you click on a month, the “How to” button and the back arrow are very close, it’s nothing at all huge but moving the How to button a tiny smudge to the right would be great. :)

Some bugs I think

There’s a problem where I set the auto turn off alarm but then I can’t completely stop it I have to delete and redownload HowToLucid to get it off until I want to use it again.

Another one is the reality check reminder will only work for a day and then won’t work the next and then I set it again and now it’s not working at all ( I do make sure to click save in the top right corner so I don’t know what’s up) I also have to delete and re install to get that to work again.

Over all I love HowToLucid and give it 5 stars! I just get frustrated with these ‘bugs’

Thanks Stefan for an amazing app

* also I have an iPhone 7 if that helps with you figuring out what’s wrong

Will actually be using this.

Instantly I can tell that Stefan’s app has had a lot of work and generous thought into it. All the other alarms or dream journal apps are missing many things.

HowToLucid was built by a very successful lucid dreamer, making sure to include everything.

I especially love the RANDOM reality check feature. This is the first app I’ve seen with this feature. It makes each reality check more meaningful and questionable because you aren’t expecting it, and it can catch you in times when you are experiencing various emotions and situations.

Not expecting when a reality check is going to happen by checking the time a lot (I do this) is so nice!

Keep meditating and keep your hopes high!

Great Version 1

It’s just what I’ve been looking for and a great start to a brand new app. One initial piece of feedback I’d give is the ability to schedule what time of day the reality check reminders go off. No reason to wake up to 10-20 notifications in the morning. I’d rather have those random reminders spread out through my waking hours.

By

Awesome, just one fix

It’s a really good app and it’s the first one you made! I have been using it everyday. The only thing that’s kinda annoying is that I wake up to about sevenish reality check reminders that went off through the night. Like someone else suggested, I think a custom time cap on these would be great. Like from 6 am- 11pm, the reality checks go off. Thanks for reading!

Fantastic tool

I absolutely love HowToLucid . It’s almost flawless. For those who stumble upon it however, the only thing missing are a list of techniques to induce and a small description of what they are and do. Otherwise HowToLucid is spot on. It’s got every link you’ll need or want. I also agree with another reviewer. Dark mode would be amazing.

By

Reality check alarms don't work

1) HowToLucid . does not have a dictation or recording tool for recording the voice rather than typing it.
2) The reality check alarms don't work.
3) If you change HowToLucid .'s background to "dark mode" it invariably after few hours changes to the light mode which is annoying in the middle of the night or early in the morning when you want to record your dreams.

By

Great but could use some improvements

It’s a great app and helps do what’s its suppose to. I do have some nitpicks however. I’d like the option for a night mode. I would also like for my dreams to be in order to make it easier to find, at the moment they are jumbled randomly as you enter them. Other than that it’s great so far.

Great app

HowToLucid is great, it has everything you would need to help you lucid dream, including links to videos. But... the UI could use some work.

By

App is awesome!!!

I downloaded HowToLucid a little bit ago and I have loved it every step of the way! My favorite use of HowToLucid is the auto shut off alarm. I don’t have to get up and turn it off it turns itself off!

Apple Watch notifications

I gave it 4stars because it should also send a notification to your Apple Watch. It will be sooo much better and handier if you are at school and your watch vibrates to remember to reality check. Overall it is really good. Good job tho

Basically achieves what it says it does but...

I’ve been using HowToLucid for almost six months when I first started lucid dreaming. I have a couple thoughts about it now that I’ve come to a better understanding on lucid dreaming.

First off the reality check reminder system is NOT a long term solution. I think this should be made more clear in HowToLucid . If you’re only doing your reality checks when you get a notification then you’re never going to do a reality check in a lucid dream. Trust me you won’t get the notification while dreaming. The whole point of reality checks is to do them when something out of the ordinary happens, or at random times when you just remember to. Your brain is not going to remember to do a reality check in a dream if you can’t remember in real life. The only real use to the reminders is in your first month maybe to get your mind used to constantly checking reality.

The other features are all pretty self explanatory and do as intended which saves HowToLucid from a 2 star rating.
