3.9 out of 5
Worked great on the trial and then..

If it worked as well when I paid for ArborealTree as it had during the trial I would have giving it 5stars however, not the case it won’t work at all now after paying the lifetime measurement fee when during the trial it measures exact height of a aspen I am felling . Only to pay and not work again what a scam. thanks

Did not get to measure one tree.

Before I had even learned how to use ArborealTree (about 5 trial runs) it said that I was “Out of Measurements” and need to pay $8 to continue.
I had been practicing on my houses chimney as I know the height. And trying to deal with a chain link fence in the way. I pressed the buttons a few times to get a feeling how to use it and it shut down.

Very disappointing could not measure one tree.

Eliminates height guessing game

Couldn’t get it to work correctly. Support stuck with me via email to even sending me a personal self video of themselves measuring the height of a tree. Worth it.
Really needed this for commercial drone work, solved a lot of pre-flight issues by knowing an appropriate low altitude clearance necessary for mapping.

Thought it could be fun to try out, but…

It didn’t work for me. It loads, but won’t measure my trees. I’ll stick to my protector and plum bob, thanks.

simply doesn’t work

just keeps saying ‘turn phone upward’, then ‘aim at tree’, then ‘turn phone downward’ no matter how close or far i get from the tree.

to the developer: yes, i know. that button never becomes enabled for me. it remains disabled no matter what i do.

Absoluter Müll

Kein genaues Ergebnis!!!

3 different heights 4 same tree

I gave ArborealTree 2 instead of 1 star bc operator error is factored in. I downloaded ArborealTree bc of the good reviews and went outside to calculate the height of a tree I want to cut down. I opened ArborealTree and couldn’t find any instructions but it directed me to point at the tree trunk, did that and without further instructions I pointed at the bottom of the tree and hit the picture button and then pointed at the top (I was about 25’ away from the tree). It said I was too close so I walked away up a slight hill. The dot was off to the side of the trunk but I thought somehow ArborealTree still knew what to do and I tried to get it as close to the trunk as possible. I shot the top of the tree and got a measurement of 31’. To be sure, I tried again and it measured about 48’ and a third time it measured 25’. Waste of time and dangerous if you were to base a cut off this incredibly unreliable data. My suggestion would be to get a better app developer. Thorough instructions should be offered on the first page. I shouldn’t have to tell you that. I wasted my free measurements on just trying to figure it out. I need this type of measurement device but wouldn’t use these guys because of the time I wasted measuring (and writing this dumb review)

Forgot my phone already does this

I downloaded ArborealTree and then remembered that’s what the measure app on you’re phone does. Good I guess to verify?

Saved me!

I’m updating tree heights and DBH for protected trees in my city. Did not have my laser with me one day, and downloaded ArborealTree in desperation. It worked great for what I needed. Thank you!

Accurate and Easy to Use

I had to measure a huge Eastern White Pine and started with my Suunto clinometer and a 100 foot tape and took 3 different readings from different locations. Then I tried ArborealTree and carefully followed the easy directions and took another three readings. All of these readings were within 1 percent of each other and within 1 percent of my clinometer reading. The height was 140.2 feet using three readings from each of the two methods. I am a retired forester and familiar with tree measurements.
A couple of tips. You need to be able to see the very top of the tree and the base of the tree. You need to go out a hundred feet. You can zoom on your phone to get the crosshairs on the top and base of the tree. Don’t drink coffee before trying to take precise measurements or if you do put the phone on a tripod, but only for high accuracy. Newer phones have Lidar and that technology is getting better all the time.
Great app and this New Hampshire forester won’t be hauling around a 100 foot loggers tape anymore.

Great for economically and efficiently managing trees.

I have been using Arboreal Forest for over a year now in my HOA Landscape Committee tasks. We manage about 1600 trees in our urban green spaces. With ArborealTree, I have been mapping and measuring large numbers of trees in about 30 seconds per tree and then downloading that list into spread sheets to use for inventory updates and creating tree maintenance work orders. It has helped us immensely in our efforts to manage an urban forest on a limited budget.

Johan, the author of this excellent app, has been very helpful with advice, bug fixes, and feature requests. I highly recommend ArborealTree as a great tool for arborists and anyone else that need to manage tree maintenance.

Far better than alternative manual methods

Not perfect — it would be helpful to include usage information or a link to a help file. The newest version has the very nice addition of the gps position for mapping the measurements.

It is sooo much better than using the stick method for height and trying to get a clear path for measuring the distance to the tree or trying to get measurements under the tree for crown width.

Worked for Me

ArborealTree gives you a fairly accurate estimate of the tree’s height. An Ash tree in my front yard has been infested with the Emerald Ash Borer or Beetle. I was just curious as to the overall height for removal purposes. For me, this could be a one time use of ArborealTree .

Simple and works

Easy to learn in under 60 seconds. An effective tool to have. If you want to save measurements, the in-app purchase seems like a good deal.

Worked Great

Easy to use and gave an accurate height of multiple trees. Thank You

Features

The app uses AR technology in your phone to measure the distance from the tree and the angle to the top of the tree to get an estimate of its height.

Go close to the trunk of a tree (2-3 feet) and move the camera in order for the device to locate the tree.

In order to get the best results, hold the camera in an upright position when you walk away from the tree.

Now you could measure the height of a tree with high accuracy.

Try to stand some distance from the tree and have a good view of the top of the tree.
