Pay to Win

2024-12-22

A lot of the positive reviews must be from people who only played to first 20-30 levels, or who are incentivized to write a good review. This game is designed to cause you to buy items to either 3 star or even pass some levels- like the bonus levels. Admittedly, I don’t even mind the challenge of the difficult timed bonus levels if I had more than 5 tries. This game relies far too heavily on items than it does game play, and it really takes away from the great platform for Dr Mario that they’ve created. This game translates nicely to mobile, and I would have rather payed for the game, and had it based around timed levels and difficulty. I’ve played my share of panda pop and candy crush, and after the first two worlds, I observed that this game pushes the need for items a lot more than its predecessors. Two star rating based on the devs holding back on design and challenge in exchange for pushing items and micro transactions. One star because of all the shills giving it five. Would easily be five star if released as a real game with challenging levels. I would’ve paid $15-$20 at least for this game had it been challenge based and completely unlocked. I am a big fan of Mario Run for that reason.

Versus game is rigged

2024-12-22

I used to enjoy playing the versus games against other characters, having my fair share of wins and losses. Until the point where I began having piles and piles of viruses thrown at me constantly and I would lose my tier and my ranking score, not to mention uncoordinated capsules that seem to glitch from where I was supposed to put it. At one point I was on the verge of going way down to tier 3 from 5 and SOMEHOW matched me up with someone who came from tier 6 while I was shot down to tier 4 because of my previous opponents, and shot me down even further. There was no way I was lost 9 times in a row, only until I realized the game has glitching the capsules and putting me with an unfair match. I could just forget about the versus mode and go to the stage… oh WAIT, no… I can’t… because trying to find the HiDdEn CoIns are nearly impossible and paying 10 diamonds won’t help! I once cleared the ENTIRE STAGE of viruses and capsules and none of the coins showed up and I lost. Idk the coins MUST be in my own house right? Smh. Waste of a heart and 10 diamonds that I will never pay to get more of because they’ll all just go to waste. The glitches seem to happen more often the matches are becoming unfair which may resolve me deleting the game.

Some parts ok, some not.

2024-12-22

Ok I like the game overall and the game play. I even like the changes from original in that sense too. But I have a couple of issues. One, and I have noticed a lot having these issues; there is a major issue with loading errors and things during the middle of levels and it often takes away resources when you swipe out and come back to it, which is truly ridiculous. I mean it is a brand new game. Also, I do not like that I am stuck with my doctor. I feel like if it gives you 3 choices at the beginning, you should be able to switch between those 3. It is unfair, that you are stuck with your choice especially since maybe you didn’t understand at first and since the skills build so slowly. And to my understanding that’s the only way to get more I think? Hopefully y’all can get bugs worked out soon, otherwise I might not keep playing. But for now I will be patient.

Originally gave y’all 3 stars now dropping to two. Glad you fixed bugs, seems to be all right so far, but I now have a new issue. I leveled up my doctor to the second tier and I can’t get that tier unless I purchase it! That is ridiculous! Sad thing is I don’t mind in app purchases, but not if it is something I or any other player has rightly earned as an achievement-I am not made of money! And as I said I refuse to purchase sometimes rightfully earned! Still being patient because I love Mario, but if my patience drop much more, I will probably drop the game as well.

Needs lots of work

2024-12-22

I never write reviews! I like this game/concept but it’s completely lame compared to other games and the prizes rewarded are cheap at best. And now I’ve finished all the worlds so I’m going back to try and get 3 stars and I can’t hardly earn any coins replaying levels? Like really? Lame. So basically I can’t make any decent amount of coins until YOU make More levels. Also, when you pass a entire world, it would be nice to get some sort of reward like full hearts or something. Check out the game SEGA hero’s. I’ve been playing that forever because it’s worth the time and effort. Your game so far is not worth the time although it’s fun and addicting, the rewards and payoff aren’t even close to worth it compared to different games. If I’m spending money on your game, I expect for you guys to put out some decent rewards too. Such a stingy game for rewards and very disappointing. I’ve spent $ on this game and now I’m done cuz I can’t get a decent amount of coins by going back and replaying levels. The optional special timed levels are too difficult also. The game is also super glitchy. I’m mad I wasted time playing this game because I really like it but unless they make the reward system better and more fair, I’m done.

Character Skills and Leveling Up

2024-12-22

As I said in a previous review, this game is addicting and fun to play when I’m able to breeze through levels. Even despite the numerous bugs, I’m somewhat able to enjoy it.
However, the whole premise of leveling up a character’s skill is really stupid to me. You mean to tell me I can ONLY level up my doctor if I’m lucky enough to get them from the randomized draw on multiple occasions? Not to mention tickets are rare and earning 4000 coins takes a while, especially since you can only earn max 150 coins per regular level. I feel like the doctors should have an HP meter. I’ve been using Luigi for more than 100 levels and I find it stupid that i haven’t been able to level him up since the only way I can is by getting him via coins or a ticket (and I’ve used several tickets and spent lots of coins in that 100 level timespan, but never got him a second time). It would make the skill thing more convenient and honestly better. And besides the randomization of doctors/assistants is dumb anyway, and what’s the point of the roulette even spinning if the icon will always land on the question mark??
There’s so many things that could be improved to better this game...but this is only version 1.0.5....so I’ll try my best to be patient and wait for better future updates.

Fun game

2024-12-22

Nintendo, you guys always make fun games, and I get that this was free (and I’d totally be willing to drop 10 bucks for the game) and I’m super happy about that, but collecting diamonds is way to hard, and buying diamonds is way to expensive. You can’t collect items unless you get really lucky, or have actual money to burn through, and coin collection is tough but can be fun. So if it’s possible maybe making it so it’s easier to collect coins, and to collect power ups. I’d be willing to “pay” for the game if you’d do that. Also it’s a nice touch having the life bar, but there are to little lives so they run out very quick.

Now on the other hand, the game is very well put together. It is one of my favorite puzzle games at the moment top 5 at least. The music is fun (could be more variety) and the levels are very fun and sometimes super challenging. As for versus mode it’s actually a blast and very fast paced.

Maybe touch up on a couple things, and add a few things to it to make it more fun, but either way I really enjoy the game, and if any actually reads this and is curious about getting it, don’t let the cons deceive you, download the game and start destroying those viruses because this game is a blast!

Great game, needs bugs fixed

2024-12-22

I love the concept of the game, it presents a good challenge and different ways to approach things. It’s a unique game and addicting. However, the game freezes, crashes, or glitches far too often. On numerous occasions, I’ve beat a more difficult level only to have my screen frozen on the clearer screen. The only way to remedy the issue is to close out DrMarioWorld , which results in me having to complete the level again. It’s very frustrating. As others have said, my game crashes occasionally which also ends the present game. This creates another issue of lives, it’s frustrating to complete levels (which takes a life) only to have the game mess up and you have to use another life on a level you already completed. If these issues were fixed, I’d be playing this game all the time!

Edit: it would be great if developers could arrange it to where the character skills actually help out. For instance, if I only have two viruses left and I’m using Bowser, my power up should actually hit those two viruses and not two rows that have nothing in them.... or when you’re down to one, the capsule should change to match that color to help out. It seems like you did it this way to make money. (This is more of a personal complaint, I am honestly more concerned about the bugs being fixed.)

Great game but can be improved. Plus waiting on more levels!

2024-12-22

I loved Dr Mario so I couldn't wait to get this game. The versus is more like the game I use to play but the stages are fun too. A few of the stages seem impossible. I had to use the diamonds I was gifted at least 3 times to pass levels, if I want gifted them I would have never bought them and most likely still be stuck. I played everyday and one level took me 4 days to pass! However now I reached the end of all the levels the have and are forced to play the other stages over ( to get better stars) or just versus. At least the versus doesn't use stars but I shouldn't have to use a life on a stage I already passed especially if I pass it again. I can see if I failed or had done worse. They also have "bonus" speed stages you can complete 3 and get a prize. I completed all 3 of the first one and it wasn't that great of a prize. I completed maybe one of the 3 on the other bonus stages throughout. I suggest if you don't finish the stage each time they add maybe 2/3 seconds on until you can complete it. I've played other games that do that and it helps. Otherwise some a impossible unless you use multiple helpers. I really hope they put more stages out otherwise I'll move on to something else.
Plus it uses so much battery even on WiFi!!

Great game, even for a micro transactions game. Just a bit unstable!

2024-12-22

Loads of fun, and really not too bad in terms of pushing for micro transactions. Sure, you still have to wait for lives occasionally, but there’s still a few things you can do while you wait, such as play versus mode or (if you have enough) spend your coins on staffing.
My biggest and really only complaint about this game, so far at least, is that it seems to be very crash-prone. In just the past 15 minutes of trying to play versus mode for the first time, it’s crashed 3 times, once during the tutorial, once after matchmaking (I lost by default and was penalized trophies for it), and once after a game. Kind of takes the fun out of versus mode if I’m going to be unable to advance due to technicalities (losing half of the time to crashes and half of the time because I didn’t play as well as my apartment). Needless to say, it’s a bit disappointing and I really hope they can fix it! And naturally, if they do, I’ll change this rating to five stars :-)
(If I had to guess, I would say the game might be running out of memory? My tablet, an iPad Air, It’s a few years old as well, so it might be a more general deficiency in system resources. I really can’t say for sure without seeing the application‘s log, though)

Has a few flaws, but fun nonetheless

2024-12-22

Dr. Mario has always been a game I’ve enjoyed so it’s hard to get me to dislike any version of it. DrMarioWorld definitely doesn’t disappoint. However, the fact that DrMarioWorld requires you to be online all the time is troublesome for my device. I travel a lot for my job so when I find myself in a place with service while starting a level then end up without service momentarily, the game just hangs and I lose a life because I have to restart DrMarioWorld . It doesn’t matter if I get service back - once it’s out, it’s out. The only other frustrating experience I have is when you get a spare capsule piece to move around, sometimes it doesn’t want to go where you want it to. It feels like an invisible wall is put up. I’ll find myself fruitlessly dragging a piece near the top of the board just to have it get stuck in a hole right before it.

Other than this though I haven’t had the issues others have had too often. The reimbursement for extra diamonds and hearts was a nice gesture. This is definitely worth a play through. Also, the music is very repetitive so have an alternate soundtrack ready by the time you hit level 50.

Paging Dr. Mario!

2024-12-22

Dr. Mario, despite it’s more than 20-year history, hasn’t changed much. Dr. Mario World has added more to do and play with than any entry I’ve ever played, but at the same time it lacks some of the satisfying release-of-tension that the older games had.

While the traditional Dr. Mario gameplay has more in common with Tetris—where vitamins fall at increasing speeds and it’s up to the player to place them carefully—in World, you drop individual capsules whenever you like. It effectively shifts the challenge from a time-based one to more of a focused puzzler where you have time to think and plan ahead. It works pretty well while still feeling familiar, but it’s strayed far from its falling-block roots.

That game takes its sweet time ramping up the difficulty, but by the time it gets into the swing of things, I found it to be pretty fun if a bit slow. And it’s forgiving as far as IAPs go. The energy meter is generous and I haven’t seen any use for diamonds yet, which you pay real money for. Online Versus mode is a treasure, and requires no energy to play, so I expect that after a while that’s where I’ll spend most of my time.

Awesome, but with a major flaw

2024-12-22

TL;DR: One of the funnest match-three games on iOS, and absolutely worth trying at least the first five or ten levels, but think hard about which starter character you choose.

This is probably the best way they could have adapted Dr. Mario to mobile devices. I can’t think of a better way, at least. The shift from the previous games’ faster, Tetris-esque block-based piece movement toward the slower and more strategic style of Brain Age’s Virus Buster mode was flawless. The unlimited-time-limited-capsules mechanic is a refreshing new spin on the iOS match-three formula, encouraging the player to take their time thinking about optimal piece placement. The lives system is extremely forgiving (you spend a life to start a stage and get it back if you beat it).

The problem, and this is a very major problem, is that the gacha mechanic is waaaaay too expensive. Thankfully, you can get by just fine with the basic currency, and the random drop rates are the same regardless of whether you use coins or diamonds. Still, buying diamonds at this point just feels like throwing money into a fire.

Addicting and fun! Despite the micro-transactions!

2024-12-22

As much as I hate gacha mechanics, this game takes the Dr. Mario formula and twists it in a fun, easy, and unique way juuust enough where I feel it adds a lot of challenge and depth to the overall gameplay. Especially in versus. That mode is intense, and learning how to be fast is key. You don’t have to pay a dime to play this game, the stages are fun, challenging, and occasionally throw in new ideas. I really enjoy this a lot so much, but maybe chop down the prices of diamonds? It seems a bit much xD. If Nintendo chops it down a bit I may just end up spending a buck or two~. One little gripe in versus mode, please tone down Bowser’s attacking power xD. One moment you’d be fine, and the next you’d have your screen filled with blocks or viruses to the point you’re bound to just give up and lose. I understand it takes him longer to attack, but with high skilled players it’s basically as if he was a 2-3 attack power rather than a 4. So he feels too OP. But anyway, great game so far, super addicting, fun, cute, and really fun to play with friends. 4/5.

Lots of potential held back by bugs.

2024-12-22

This is a really addictive and surprisingly challenging game that is sadly plagued with technical problems that get in the way. One bug seems to freeze the game whenever I complete a level for the first time. Once you complete the level the game board is cleared but nothing happens. The other issue is the servers. Having to connect to the servers takes way too long and connection errors occur regularly. This is especially annoying playing the versus mode. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been in the middle of a match only to suddenly lose the round because an error occurs. Once these issues are fixed I’ll gladly update my review and give the game a five star review.

Also, there are microtransactions in the game but work in the same way as many other mobile games. There’s premium currency that can be bought to do things like replenishing your lives, buying items that can be used in levels etc.

P.S. some of the levels need to be rebalanced. Level 180 is ridiculous.

Way better than I thought it would be!

2024-12-22

After playing super Mario, i thought this would be just as easy.
The only thing I didn’t like about super Mario was how I have WAY to much coins and tickets than I can spend. It just didn’t feel like I was earning it all. But Dr. Mario world is AWESOME, my favorite thing is the music and graphics. I have a classic N.E.S so I play Dr. mario every now and then, and it’s one of my favorite games on the Nintendo, so when I heard there was Dr. mario coming on DrMarioWorld Store I had to get it! All though I then thought it might be disappointing like Super Mario. But it’s not. I love how the music is like the classic music, only better; more modern. And back to coins thing. I never get more coins( or other types of currency) than I need, which doesn’t seem like a big deal but it’s such a relief after playing Super Mario. Great game! It won’t disappoint! Also one more thing, it’s the PERFECT difficulty! Great if you like puzzles!
