ROADS by Porsche Route Planner Reviews

An App like this is a great idea for finding fun this app to drive- and I have done a few great drives off of it. But it needs work. Biggest gripe is that if you make any minor mistake on a drive it keeps trying to take you back to that waypoint. Sometimes it allows you to “skip waypoint” but not consistently. This can be dangerous when driving and can make the directions largely unusable. You also can’t go backwards on the route or join mid-way - really annoying when the route goes close to where you are but the start is a long-way off. Likely because of all these issues ROADS does not seem to get much use, so the number of this app and community members are sparse. Really hoping Porsche makes an investment in this before the machines take over driving for us!

ROADS is a great creation for car enthusiasts all across the world to find great driving this app that suits them.
I like how people can have profiles in which they can post pictures and post their car or similar things like Instagram.
A few bug fixes and changes to ROADS could make it even better. I think that the dark map is hard to see this app in general, and that the this app at least should be easier to see so that we can find more potential this app to post onto ROADS . (not counting the recorded this app in red.)

I tried to use ROADS using CarPlay in my 2020 Avalon TRD.
It started up on the screen just fine.
I scrolled through different road trips, selected one, it pulled up, BUT when I tapped drive this this road, ROADS totally shut down, went blank, and put me back on the CarPlay menu screen.
PLEASE fix this bug!!!
Looks like this could otherwise be a lot of fun!
UPDATE: It works. I have to first have the this app app started and running in the background on my iPhone (I’ve not had to do that with other CarPlay apps). THEN I select it from the CarPlay menu, and it works! The maps and voice directions are good. Four stars because it’s still a tad buggy. But well worth getting!!!

Latest updated app does not work. I am able to select and start a “Road” but then the turn by turn directions do not advance. It gets stuck at the start. I see some other recent reviews report the same issue. Hopefully the developers can fix it, because ROADS is amazing when it works. I have enjoyed several drives using ROADS before the latest update broke things. I have even uninstalled and then reinstalled ROADS , bit no difference.

- Dark-mode only on a smart phone is an anti-pattern. Dark colors in the sunlight make the phone an unreadable mirror. I would like to be able to use ROADS during the daytime and with the top down, but it’s just not possible.

- is it possible to change the volume of the navigation queues? If so, I couldn’t find it. It’s far too quiet, especially when on spirited drives.

- being able to do the route backwards would be nice, might not be possible depending on the route.

- directions to the start of the route are completely wrong and / or simple insane. ROADS I explicably had me going onto 202 and then immediately off route 202 four times going in the same direction. Baffling, but you can work around it by just driving to the start.

Again, really cool idea. The dark mode thing simple has to go in order for it to be usable.

Wonderful idea for finding and sharing fun drives. Unfortunately ROADS CONSTANTLY loses or misinterprets your location and/or direction, and once that happens the entire rest of the drive attempts to route you back to the starting point.

It's absolutely infuriating when this happens because it pops up saying "You left the route" (um, no I did not) and only offers "Pause" or "Obstacle", neither of which are relevant not helpful.

Porsche, PLEASE fix this! ROADS has so much promise but as it sits it's basically useless and arguably unsafe

I recorded a drive a few weeks ago and it went into my private list. ROADS won’t let me upload it. I’ve been trying to get support and can’t even figure out how to do it. I’ve posted in ROADS with no response.

I’m trying to learn how to use it but it’s hard to do.

It seems like a great way to share and find driving experiences.

Just wish I could get help!

Sorry, but ROADS is garbage. I don’t say that often. Tried to drive a nearby loop I found. It sort of got me to the beginning of the loop, but then didn’t make it clear which way to go, and worse it just hung up. The navigation just stopped. When I started over it took me back to the beginning and then stopped again. I tired again and it eventually stopped again. I was using ROADS via CarPlay. I’m deleting ROADS now. What a shame!

The previous version of ROADS (approx 13 months ago) used to have a feature that would auto-generate a road for you based on how many miles you wanted to drive. The drives were scenic and had plenty of curves and you could use ROADS wherever. Now you have to go to specific places to enjoy drives. Please bring this old feature back!!

There is a lag between your live position and position on the map. And creating routes can be easier. Would also be nice to integrate with google maps/Waze for speed traps, police, and red light cameras.

So ROADS sometimes doesn’t work as expected or wanted. You must start at starting point or it will not progress forward, and it didn’t exactly work well with my apple play in my car.

The ability to change the map color would be nice. A red on black map scheme is tough to read when you’re driving spiritedly. The ability to also run the road in reverse would be nice.

I’ve been waiting for an app like this for a long time. Thank you, Porsche! Apple CarPlay support would make it perfect, as it’s a little hard to work with on the road.

Difficult to navigate and hold phone, since map data doesn’t work with Google maps or Apple Maps, or thru CarPlay

I really like the idea of ROADS , but ROADS freezes while making a profile to register myself. It continuously loops back to “recaptcha” authentication step. So now I use it without registration.

The predecessor app, GTS Routes, has a map where you can browse for routes. This new app doesn’t have that feature and it makes it difficult to find nearby routes. I’ll stick with the old app. Please consider adding this feature back in.

Major stuff is all there! Should enable us to drive in opposite direction intended by app (when it's ok) and highlight route before the destination on CarPlay

ROADS is great for finding awesome driving this app nearby. Please add apple car play compatibility. This would make ROADS perfect!

App is limited and can’t adjust if you leave a specific route the way normal driving apps allow you to do

Route was ok but you need to show a round trip. Just not drop it one way. Also why not run thru the nav system in the car.

Spent the better part of a day recording a route only to have it disappear from ROADS a few hours later. What a shame... don’t waste your time.

I don’t have a Porsche (yet) but I have the next best thing - an Audi. I’ve found some really cool this app thanks to ROADS!
