CANNOT OPEN - FIXED

With latest update I am now able to open app. Can’t wait to get out on the water and use it. From what I have looked at, it looks great.

Have had and used TroutRoutes for months. It is very good. However, since updating to 2.2, TroutRoutes will not open. I have removed and reloaded, but still will not open. I have an Apple 5S.

It used to work great...

I was introduced to TroutRoutes at a Fly Fishing Expo about a year and a half ago. I’ve introduced others too it as well. It was one of my favorite apps. Unfortunately, with one of the last updates something changed and I can’t open it on either of my two iPhones (6S and an iPhone 8) operating on the most updated operating systems. I would definitely subscribe to it, but now I can’t even open it.

Hopefully, this is something the developers figure out soon. Hopefully, I can start using this new version, someday.

Needs work

I downloaded this to teat it out. For my state, it’s missing a LOT of information. The class system doesn't match our state classification and some waters that are higher class were listed as lower class in TroutRoutes . What’s bizarre is that our state has all of this data available for free in GIS format and even has a free website with better info than what’s in TroutRoutes . The developers should have been able to easily pull all the GIS biomass data from the state and include it. There was a ton of public access missing. This looks like someone just pulled a bunch of data from somewhere and tried to customize it without actually knowing anything about the areas.

Great Support

I made an error in setting up my account and testing the free trial of the Trout Routes service, but after a call to their support number, I received an extremely prompt call back from Zac who was very kind and understanding and helped me resolve my issue right away. We had a great chat on the phone, and I could tell immediately how passionate he was about this project. I’m excited to see TroutRoutes/service develop moving forward. Support like that in the startup world is hard to come by.

Good app, but why pay premium for public data?

It’s well put together, but this is ripping off the state data. I understand the overhead required to keep an app going like this, but it seems like the professional version is the same as the online Trout opportunities interactive mapper (WI DNR), which is free. I see why you should pay a premium for a platform, but you should not pay for public ally acquired data. Regardless of this, I still appreciate TroutRoutes .

Top Of The List

This, without a doubt, is the best app out there for fly fishing locations and guides. I’ve tried them all. I’ve decided I’m willing to pay the price for this product.

It’s being kept up to date and I’ve found that the developer really cares about his product and what people have to say about making improvements. So just reach out if you need to ask a question or make a comment.

Happy fishing.

Really excited about the App until I I couldn’t find California info in there 😔

Heard about TroutRoutes on WildFlys YouTube/Insta. Immediately downloaded only to find no info on California. It looks great but it’s missing the west coast.
Also didn’t realize how much fly fishing there was to do in Wisconsin. Lived there for 12 years and never picked up a fly rod🤦‍♂️

Please add Cali, Arizona, Utah and Idaho. I’ll help you collect info if I can!

Inaccurate data

I live in Upper Michigan. I was curious if TroutRoutes would have any useful information about the areas I fish here but this half of the state is so rural I wasn't optimistic. I was pleasantly surprised to see a lot of blue lines on the map when I first opened it up however upon closer examination I see that streams, rivers, and lakes that do NOT contain trout are also marked as trout. Plus there are several fly shops in the area and none are shown in TroutRoutes . No way I would pay for bad data like this, however if the programmers would like to pay me I can help clean things up and make it accurate.

Will be a 5* app WHEN THEY....

I downloaded the trial with intent to purchase then I read the details about only being in 7 states. I deleted and cancelled free trial. When they get North Carolina and Georgia I will prob buy it...unless something else comes along before they do. If you live in those 7 states you should consider purchasing.

1st day Review

I used this app today for the 1st time in VA. Last night I spent a few hours saying the maps and getting to know the application. I’m a nerd & where I fish has no cell service. TroutRoutes is amazing! You can set it up for offline use! Bonus!

Furthermore, I know my local streams & rivers well. This is spot on. The data is there and accessible. I wish I had this a few years ago. Would have saved a lot of scouting time!

Keep up the great work!

I will add notes to the areas I know can use some additional notes. I know this might be a slippery slope to go public with tho…. It could get abused.

Game changer

I have been using this app for awhile now. App is very accurate in terms of easements. It is a huge help in searching for new waters near home to try. Love the geolocation that lets me know exactly where I am on a stretch of stream. App doesn’t catch trout for you (😢) but it sure helps pick water to fish and help me find it!!

Awesome App

On a recent first time trip to the driftless area of Wisconsin TroutRoutes saved us so much time and frustration. We were able to pick a spot we wanted to try and TroutRoutes lead us right to it. If you are a traveling fisher OT looking to expand your home area, get TroutRoutes! Worth every dollar!

Worth Every Penny

Finally, an awesome map for Midwest streams! Get it!

Have had TroutRoutes for about a year now. They now have offline maps, and have started to add other unique features and other states beyond Midwest. Well done, and very simple and easy to use. Use TroutRoutes 9 times to 1 compared to Gaia (better for my uses) but thanks for the great app!

By

Very accurate!

I’ve only had pro version a short while but it is zeroed in on private vs public waters very accurately so far and helped get me to some great waters! I’ll continue to use in the weeks ahead to see how it does on other streams and creeks. Two thumbs up so far!

Great app and awesome support

TroutRoutes is invaluable for any fisherman and a great tool to have in your tackle box. The support is awesome. I had some technical challenges due to my limited experience with apps and Zach was super helpful and very patient he got me squared away in short order. I highly recommend.

When were states like SC and GA added?

I’m guessing this is better in some states than others. I’m not sure it’s of use to us in SC. I’m not seeing anything really different than what I already know and I’m seeing things missing. I’m hoping I haven’t been charged yet. If it improves for SC I’d be willing to pay for it, but much improvement is needed. North, GA could also use some work.

Utah Please!

I like what you have going but I live in Utah. I’m all signed up and hope I get an email to let me know when Utah comes online.

Fantastic for traveling trout fishermen

Love TroutRoutes, I use it all the time for quick access to check stream flow rates locally, and when traveling it is invaluable for finding streams to fish with great details on stream classification, easements, and access points.

Rendered useless

The revised site is apparently by subscription for any useful information. That’s fine with me. But there are no instruction about how to convert a basic service into something meaningful. The Manage Account icon is worthless . I would pay if you told me how

By

Detailed, intuitive and fun

I love TroutRoutes. The stream details with access, directions and ratings allow me to scout new spots and revisit old spots I haven’t been to for years. And it is continually being added to.
Only downside is it can be distracting if I open at work.

Amazing

Was just in Wisconsin and was talking to a friend about how something like this would be great as we read websites that said stuff like “go to the intersection of county X and Y, pass barn 5 miles on left.” This makes things so much more accessible!!

Home Run

Hey I just upped my app from basic to pro, and I have to say that the layers of info are really great. This is just a very thorough, well designed app. We’ve needed something like this and I’m very impressed. Keep it up.

By

Great app

Just downloaded TroutRoutes and have been playing with what I know around me. It’s the best single source for fishing info I’ve seen.

By

Greatest of all time.

This is my favorite app. It’s makes it really easy to find what your looking for in trout streams.

By

Don’t update your app!

I received an email today telling me about the new this app 3.0. Sounded great so I updated my app and realized they stripped away all the useful features and will now only provide them with the Pro Version. Thanks a lot guys! I guess I’ll be finding a new trout app. If you haven’t updated TroutRoutes already don’t do it.

By

Very limited coverage

Wish there were more than 7 Midwest states.

By

TroutRoutes

Really innovative idea for both beginner and veteran fisherman. Easy to pinpoint public water for people who may not know the area very well. Great app!

By

Works great!

Very good app. Able to navigate to streams that are new to me with ease. Only bad thing is some of my secret streams may be more populated.

By

Trails

Pretty ridiculous trails database, no offline mode is a bummer though. How soon before we can Wisconsin? Nice work!

From what I can tell a good app so far

Have an estimate though for when the east coast will be mapped roughly?

Curtis Ashcraft   1 year ago

The class system is totally off from what most people know and identify. It's showing streams to be trout streams but I know for CERTAIN said streams are not stocked with trout. Really want to buy the pro app but until I can have some confidence in it I won't be doing that. Back to topo it is!!
