Amazing app

I had been using the Academia from last 5 years, its been amazing with the website. It helped me to upload and publish my articles to the people. Its the most convenient way to find more stuff for reading and acknowledging the work by the people in your field.
But after Academiaedu comes in it became a part of day to day life because now we can use it on the go anyway anywhere anytime.
Thank you for Academiaedu and website.

Poor accessibility - left handedness exists

Although the service itself is excellent, Academiaedu itself is problematic in terms of ableist assumptions. Zooming in can only be accomplished in portrait mode; in landscape mode one is stuck with whatever zoom level one has in portrait mode. As most phones are rectangular, this means it is impossible to get the text to fit the screen in landscape mode without repeatedly switching into portrait mode and zooming in and out until one happens upon the proper fit. Additionally, it is impossible to scroll with your left hand in landscape mode; scroll functionality is limited to the right side of the screen. This makes Academiaedu virtually unusable by academics who happen to be left-handed or are otherwise limited in range of motion movements. Such lack of accessibility on a platform which aims to improve access to research and academic information is a barrier to those who fail to occupy the societally established hierarchy of “right handed” and “able bodied.”

I would give Academiaedu one star if it weren’t such a stellar service otherwise. Very disappointed with their subpar programming, lack of accessibility, and ableist GUI design.

Persistent Issues hamper an otherwise excellent and useful app

I’ve used academia for a good few months now and have enjoyed it. However, recently, I’ve run into a key issue that pretty much hamstrings it. Any time I try to actually read an article, the article’s text simply doesn’t load. The “About” and “Related” sections load near instantly, but the “Read” section, the actual text of the article I’m wanting to use, never does. I could understand if it were a matter of these articles being paywalled like some results on Academiaedu are (even if I find paywalling content when features are already paywalled disagreeable, but that’s a minor issue), but there’s no prompt alerting me to needing to be a premium member or the like, just an infinite loading screen. This says nothing of the hard crashes caused by going to specific papers from the links Academia will periodically email to me. Academia is still useful for keeping track of particular scholars and publications in my field, but right now, it’s useless for what I actually want to use it for: reading the articles that it helps me to find.

By

Issues with mentions

This is not an overall review; I find Academiaedu generally to be useful and interesting. But I can’t figure out why the “mentions” feature is so primitive. I am quite curious about mentions of my publications, but for some reason the system seems to only scan for “C Laughlin,” and does not learn from my hundreds of responses to “this is me/this is not me,” even that I am not named McLaughlin (some materials apparently come in with a space between the “c” and the “L”), and it even captures references in which the “C” and the “Laughlin” are not part of the same person’s name! Not to mention the other Charles Laughlins in other fields like sports medicine, anthropology, physics, biology, and education, some of whom were publishing books and articles when I was in elementary school. At least the algorithm should capture only “Charles Laughlins,” and only ones who began publishing in the late 1990s about Chinese literature and culture, without me having to pick through over 90% false hits.

Persistent login issues with Apple ID

Using latest version with iOS 13.5.1. I downloaded Academiaedu recently and created an account using Apple ID. Worked fine at first until the newer update was released. Now I can’t get past the login screen. I don’t even get an error message to give me any kind of clue what is going on. Will have to go on the desktop version and manually save all of the papers I was using for research to Adobe Acrobat. No point in keeping Academiaedu on my phone. I can try to update to 13.6 but really not happy since it worked ok before update, aside from the constant pop ups and pay walls others have complained of. Would not recommend. You’re better off using Google and Acrobat for finding and organizing papers.

100% Unusable

I click Open, Academiaedu opens and forces me to a Safari link that forces me to Academiaedu Store that asks me to download it, except I’ve already downloaded it, so when I click Open, Academiaedu opens and forces me to a Safari link that forces me to Academiaedu Store that ask me to download it, except I’ve already downloaded it, so when I click Open, Academiaedu opens and forces me to a Safari link that forces me to Academiaedu Store that ask me to download it, except I’ve already downloaded it, so when I click Open……

Seems like a great app if it would let me use it, but I’ll never know because it’s impossible to open, and because I’m going to throw my phone into outer space from the ungodly rage strength this experience has given me. 0/10 with rice.

Access is worth it

Small inconveniences aside having access to this material is invaluable. Wish list is that it would enable reading turned 90 degrees. At least on my iPad it doesn't reformat when turned. And maybe this would an aside to Academiaedu but sure would be nice if this could some how be made compatible with Kindle which much lighter and easier to carry around than an iPad. I should add I am not an academic so I am only using Academiaedu to read, never uploading anything. At least I am able to save material to iBooks for collecting and organizing.

Makes me feel connected with College

I have been an college academic since the fall semester after my High School graduation like 7 years ago. Academiaedu has really tied all the loose end of my education up, that is, the real life discourse around the stuff I’ve studied so much on. It has changed my life this service. With the prospect that I can share my work as well. It has revived my education spirit!

A Wonderful Resource

Academia is fills an important gap that has existed for too long. It provides a venue for publication of important ideas that used to go unpublished because of the referee system that has been so very often abused to the bane of every field. Academia allows scholars and researchers to choose what we want spent our time reading. We all understand that some misuse this venue, but on the main, in my experience, Academia is a breath of fresh air.

Academia App at my fingertips

I thoroughly enjoy having the widest selection of research papers available to me at no cost. The ability to download an individual paper and read it with ease is very convenient for those who don’t have the time to go through all the subscription hoops yet want to enjoy real, firsthand and relevant research on both a specific topic of interest and related ones. Wonderful app! Thank you!

I love the idea, but not app needs some work

Great idea and an ambitious start, but Academiaedu is severely flawed. When I try to follow a scholar, the interaction seems to trigger an event and it will temporarily tell me I’m following this person, but if I leave that profile and come back I can see that the relationship has not persisted. This and a couple of other little bugs are the reasons I only rate it at 3 stars.

I absolutely love what this could be and I hope the kinks get worked out and Academiaedu sees a lot of much needed attention from the developers.

Academia no longer pairs with Books for pdf downloads‼️

For some reason, the Academia app is no longer allowing the Books/iBooks app to make pdf files of their papers‼️ For years, I have copied all the online research articles to my organized folders within Books/iBooks. Why is Books not supported❓❓❓

Señor

I’m do enjoy Academiaedu , but there are a number of minor glitches that add up. For one, I can’t even see the text while I’m writing this review, which is I don’t know what to say about that. I’m a premium member and enjoy being a part of this institution, and I do recommend it to friends I think would be interested, but you sincerely have to take care of the mobile app.

Thank you, take care.

A Cornucopia of Information

Since finding Academia, I am finding it to be a cornucopia of wealth where information is concerned. These documents I’m finding are priceless. Being that so much information has been destroyed down through the years, this gives me a starting place for the data GOD has me searching for. Thank you!

Sign In With AppleID Issue

I was so excited about Academiaedu (accidentally signed up for a mailing list somehow and got some great research to my email), so I downloaded it and attempted to create an account using “Sign In With AppleID”. I am now stuck in a loop where Academiaedu only states “we’re having some trouble connecting” and let’s me see nothing. The browser version is unable to recognize my account “invalid user”, but will not let me create another account as my email is “already in use”. Hope this is fixed soon so I can change this review.

A Worthwhile Resource

Academia is a very useful resource to any and everyone who seems knowledge acquisition as important. More specifically, scholars as myself will find a variety of articles and peer-reviewed publications that may help in their individual academic journeys and quest for knowledge in their fields. I although the fool comes at a cost, reasonably it is worth every word.

You Don’t Need to Pay

Academiaedu is amazing most articles and papers, sometimes whole books can be viewed and downloaded on Academiaedu.

I really enjoy being able to pick a field or topic and get notifications of new things I might want to read.

My dream comes true

30 years ago before the smart phone the information the knowledge was hard to access except through libraries schools universities but after the technology revolution the world is near you ,and academia App proved it to me that my wish comes true.

Almost perfect!

I love Academiaedu! It would be honestly perfect if landscape mode could be added for my iPad Pro so I can read it a bit easier. Also I’m not sure if this is a feature but I can’t find it: how to search articles by views/most views? If not that would be awesome of that could be added as well!

Better than a Novel

When I need to read, Academia presents spot-on papers to enhance my research and hobbies. It replaces the news “feeds.” It scratches the “check my phone” itch by reaching across the world and bringing academicians to my attention whom I would love to have dinner with and discuss their research. Genius app.

By

Request for landscape mode !

I use iPad Pro for most reading works. I think this book is a good tool to search papers. However, it does not have the landscape mode, which is very inconvenient for me. I don’t think it is a difficult thing to do. Please make it more easier to use.

Detailed historical information the studies of experts

I have only read one paper so far and found it to be one of the most interesting detailed description of individuals and events that almost wrecked a powerful State. Excellent work very interesting

Medical speech pathologist

I enjoy reading the lastest investigations in my field without paying for each one. The variety of articles in each area, makes more easy to work on based evidence base therapy.

By

confusing between devices

I have Academiaedu on my iphone and ipad pro. Same login. One says I have items in the library. The other says library empty. There is NO sync option. What’s the point of a login if I have to go individually search each article again on every device?

Academic app

Academiaedu is an excellent method when trying to answers that are beyond the inquiry’s apprehension.

As a person (who is) somewhat ignorant & having an interest in various scholarly fields Academiaedu was made for me.

Needs a landscape mode

Owner of iPad Pro. Love using academia edu online for research purposes but the iOS app is frustrating to use as the only way to view and read articles and research is portrait mode. I almost use my iPad Pro with keyboard in the landscape setting so bewildered that developers can’t add a simple setting in this orientation

By

Great resource, app can frustrate

Academia is an incredible resource of academic reference work. However, Academiaedu has issues, occasionally I leave the article I’m reading and when I get back, I’ve lost my place.

By

So complete

I love Academia because I am always surprised by the articles I come upon in topcs of interest for me, in particlar Spanish medieval literature and, as an opposite extreme on the European map, the Rusyn people, their language, literature and religion.

By

Amazing App

Academiaedu links me into papers that interest me with the key words I used. It does all the hard work to keep me on the edge of this ever changing field.

Saves me money

I like the articles books I have access too. In some cases it has saved me tons of money
