Saved my family and home

My homeowners insurance through State Farm has a program from Whisker labs called TING. A plug in device that has an app on my phone. While at Arianas volleyball game Tuesday I was notified there was a potential hazard. So as instructed I called my fire safety engineer Dima. She talked me through figuring out what caused the voltage dip. Found that a breaker had tripped and the basement was filled with a white haze Dima instructed me to call 911. So we got out and South Pymatuning Volunteer Fire Department showed up promptly to discover it was the extension and cord on my sump pump that burned. They vented out the smoke with a large fan. We then were able to safely enter. I called back Dima and they were dispatching an electrician to install a new dedicated outlet. The great news is they will pay up to $1000 for the repair.
So I was able to give them the name of the electrician Tony Petricini that installed my panel. They contacted him and then I called him and assured him it wasn’t a scam. He was able to come out and install a new outlet lower to the ground so no extension cord needed.
Had I not installed the TING I would have never known there was a problem we would have come home and gone to bed.…. I am so thankful to State Farm, Whisker Labs for this great complimentary program through State Farm. Thankful my family is safe.

Stellar Company

This new way of protecting your home from electrical arcing which can be a hidden danger in the walls of your home that you would not be aware of is amazing. I actually had a fire start in my home over 30 years ago which the fire department could not find until it broke through a wall. We could smell smoke but couldn’t find it. It was finally discovered and the firemen went to town!! Ting is a miracle little tech item that plugs into any plug in your home and monitors it 24/7 for possible fire dangers hidden in your electrical wiring in the walls. That crazy little miracle invention is tracked all over the US by electrical engineers who are alerted when something is happening and notifies you. They go through steps with the little Ting component to trace where the problem is and find it, get hold of an electrician in your area and work with them to fix the problem. Mine was offered through my home insurance. I cannot say enough good things about them. Everyone should have one in their home!

Wow! Impressed!

I am so impressed with this program. I thought I had a issue within my home as my lights were always dimming when I would run the dryer, dishwasher, A/C would kick on, etc. I replaced all the breakers in my panel & still had an issue. I jumped at the opportunity when I saw this was available. Before the 7 day learning mode was even completed, it alerted me immediately that I had a problem on the utility side. The Ting team held my hand and guided me on exactly what to do and kept me updated on things. My power company came out and found out I had a bad power line from the transformer to my house. After replacing, I haven’t had any issues since and the lighting in my house is brighter than it ever has been! I’m glad they saved me, my home, and my pets from a potential disaster! Thank you Ting!

Good concept

I like it so far wish it would have more details and partner up with utilities companies as well maybe show where we save Electricity consumption orBe able to analyzeIndividual appliances or that are consuming too much electric maybe something inside TingSensor where we could add all the appliances that are plugged in all times or something else like work withThe smart home set up where it canCommunicate with it for exampleNest thermostat like if senses A overload a power coming into the house maybe it could start setting signals to nonCritical appliances to turn off just some ideas.I do like the sense of safety and the ideal of something isMonitoring the internal electrical system of my home.

terrible service

I am not very impressed with them. The person I dealt with didn't always respond to emails. Therefore I ended up throwing away a fan when it wasn't the problem, because I didn't hear from them for 2 weeks so I thought the issue is resolved. There is no method to the troubleshooting and they want you to leave things unplugged for periods of time or leave your breakers flipped for hours at a time. ended up finding the real issue was a wiring issue with the outlet the ting device was plugged into. I plugged it in somewhere else and it solved the issue. (something the person tried to tell me it couldn't be the issue and instead insisted by water heater, which is gas and doesn't use electricity, had to be the issue or my BRAND NEW a/c which was replaced 1/2 way thru this process and hadn't been turned on yet. (meaning the issue in my house started before my hvac system was replaced) Then she tried to tell me it was other appliances which had been unplugged for a few weeks due to this whole process.

Piece of Mind

I am so thankful for this little box. It was so easy to set up! I have one in our main and in the much older and less occupied guest house on our property. It gives me piece of mind knowing that both dwellings are being monitored for electrical faults and wiring issues 24/7. I’ve had two friends over the years go through the horror of losing their homes to fire. One fire was caused by wiring, the other they never could determine a cause. Having a system that monitors wiring within the walls and in the attic, and then knowing that it will notify me of problems even if I am out of town, is just amazing and gives me such comfort. Thank you Ting!

Damaged neutral (FL)

After a major thunderstorm, Ting detected several brownouts and power surges. It then detected the damaged or loose neutral and I called the utility company. At first they said that my home is getting power and everything was fine. I told the representative that I didn’t think so because the device I have that monitors my home said otherwise. I read the email to him and he said oh that is serious. Thank you Ting! They were able to fix the voltage problem however there are issues with several appliances being damaged. If it weren’t for Ting the outcome could have been different. Best devise ever. I can’t say thank you enough.

By

Cool, amazing, and keeps you safe too

This is something that is not a game or fun like so may other apps in TingSensor Store. Nothing against the other apps but they do not keep you, your home and all those in it safe. The best part is all you do is plug it in and link TingSensor to the device. Then you just sit back and wait for it to tell you if you are go to go or if you need to do something. In my case it found some sort of dangerous issue that my electric company needed to take care of. I did not think the electric company would take it so seriously, but they had someone out to fix it, less than hour after I reported it.

The Ting device found the problem

We have been having trouble with our electricity and dimming if lights for a year. We received this device from State Farm last week and it found it the problem in less than a week. We called APS and they came out with two bucket trucks and stayed for a few hours. It was exactly the problem that Ting said it was, a loose neutral wire on the pole that leads to our house. They corrected the situation and now we are feeling safer thanks to Ting and their customer service rep, John. Thanks Ting and State Farm. It could have been disastrous for our home but you all saved the day!

By

Way more impressive than first thoughts I had.

Ting is actually a nifty little safety plug to put it mildly. Who knew one square with prongs for a wall outlet, could be so interesting on top of informative? The plug may look like nothing, but it talks to the phone app and give you all the electricity information you ever wanted to know the truth about. It amazed me to watch the little current flow chart running, showing the directional flows and the comforting feeling it helps to maintain by informing the home owner just exactly what is or is not flowing properly. This little thing is way worth your research and inquiry! Get yours and stay safe!

Fantastic app and service

What a find. I got this free from State Farm, my home insurance agency, and plugged it in. In addition to the fire protection, it monitors the general health of your electrical service from the department of water and power here in Los Angeles.

Turns out our service is WAY under voltage. Average is 109 volts but dips under 108 frequently. The DWP came out and verified we have a problem. They are coming back to install an additional transformer on our line. I never would have know unless I had this device installed. Makes sense why some of our digital appliances have had issues.

Great product!!!

Notification of power failure:

We were out of town when Ting let us know it was offline. Upon investigating we determined our power was out, and our energy company said we were not affected. We then checked our thermostat (offline) modem/router(offline) camera system (offline) so we then told our energy company that we indeed lost power and we were added to their list. Ting let us know 1st that it was offline and 1st that it was back online and our power was normal. Thanks Ting for being 1st in a stream of providers to let us know what was going on!

Crazy

When I set up the account the device captured the signal coming from a WiFi extender which has its own signature.
I decided that the extender wasn’t needed& unplugged. Ting stopped working. I wanted to switch it to the regular network and cannot. You must follow the programmed steps or do nothing. I have been unable to find any option to update the network. If I uninstall you get a warning that it will automatically cancel the membership. Very frustrating. Have no idea how to uninstall and reinstall.

Concern

I like TingSensor, however I have my primary and a second vacation home. There was a brownout reported over the weekend and I was at my second vacation home in the mountains when the lights flickered. However, when Ting sent me a notification concerning the brownout, they did not specify which property. I wish they could be specific. Had I not been at my second vacation home over the weekend, I would not have known which home the brownout occurred in. I would suggest they be addresss specific. Thank you

Refreshing

This is like a set and forget thing. Free from my insurance carrier but constantly monitors my entire home’s electrical system for faults. Warns of power outages and potential faults. You see your lights flicker and boom you get a pop up from TingSensor telling you what happened. In our case it was a community brown out but still without the device and app we’d have no clue. Just get this and plug it in and let it do it’s thing. I enjoy if ever a need for an electrician to fix a potential issue it’s covered. Win win.

Detection of possible fire hazard.

Ting detected a potential fire hazard from electricity coming into my house and advised me to contact my electric company which I did. The transformer had to be replaced and they told me they wish every household had this service. It would save them a lot of time looking for the problem and not having to go put in bad weather. Very good job Ting. By the way. The electric company had a technician out here within 30 minutes and fixed the problem within an hour.

By

Awesome product

I don’t know how and it is quiet weird to know that they can “see” your power flows and currents. But Ting prevented a fire by alerting me that there was a “spike” in my electric line. They dispatched an electrician and went through thorough testing to find a breaker that started to go bad. It was lightly charred on the metal. With multiple breaker boxes and power all across different buildings, this could have caused a barn fire. Thanks to Ting we caught it ahead of time and prevented some bad news. Thank you Ting and highly recommended.

By

Good so far.

I like the device so far. Kind of like a smoke alarm. Don’t know if it works until you need it. If TingSensor sent alerts when the voltage went outside the “green” range and provided a time line of how long the event lasted I’d give it 5 stars. I see in the last 24 hours my voltage dropped to 99.4 Vac but for how long and when did it happen would be far more useful. Adding it to the calendar of events would allow one to look for patterns. Right now it’s more like an idiot light on the car rather than an actual gauge.

Ting is a great monitor

Ting was given to us by State Farm insurance company they are the insurer’s of our home. The Ting unit plugs into the wall outlet and monitors the electrical wiring and the power levels of our home. I’m notified almost immediately of a power outage or failure. The how to book also says it will notify me if there is a problem with the wiring in the house and outbuildings that are connected to the house wiring. As long as there’s an operating internet connection I would be notified anywhere I go.

Wonderful service

Nationwide Insurance provided me with a three year subscription. What a win win idea. Ting monitors the electrical system of my home and sends me weekly reports. If anything is faulty I get to repair it (with a stipend) from Nationwide) so my house doesn’t have an electrical fire costing Nationwide more than the subscription to Ting. The Ting service itself is a no brainer plug in tying up only one outlet. I am considering it for a non-covered vacation home in a state that doesn’t provide the free service

Ting Electrical Service Monitoring Utility

So far, we’re pretty impressed with this utility. It truly appears to make a lot of sense to monitor the electrical health status of our home’s electrical distribution system and components. It should be quite interesting to see how it will perform in the coming months during the thunderstorm season, which, are often fairly severe here. Having such a monitoring system is especially important in older homes like ours, which was constructed in 1939, before grounded outlets, and GFICs were a common requirement. Also, the price of this service is quite nice.

Not well thought out

Good concept but far from satisfying a typical user need. For example, I felt like a power surge a few minutes ago that may have happened because of me, I open TingSensor to see what happened and I cannot see the data. TingSensor doesn’t show the history for stuff that happened today. You have to wait a day for it to come the next day. By that time I forget why I wanted to check. Why? TingSensor developers are very primitive in their UX design and forget to accommodate what the user would actually need from TingSensor .

Hint: don’t use just a software engineer to develop TingSensor , have an actual engineer like electrical or mechanical engineer oversee what the software person does with TingSensor ; software folks are good at implementing, not at understanding engineering stuff. Software engineer is a misnomer, they may not know engineering.

Ting Device and App

When we first were contacted by Staye Farm, I was a bit skeptical as to the functions of the Ting device. However, we decided to get Ting and try it out. We have had our Ting device for almost four months and we love it. The set up was very easy and the ap is user friendly. The notifications settings are very customizable with options best suited for each user. To date we have had a few alerts, all of which were non emergent. I have suggested this device to many of my friends and so far they have had no issues either. I highly recommend all home owners to get the Ting device and app.

Mrs.

I love my Ting Sensor. it gives me a sense of comfort and security. Do you know that my electrical wiring is safe within my house. It only notifies me when it is off-line. The only time that I have seen it go off-line is when my Cox cable goes out. Then I have to unplug the modem to reset it. when I plug my Cox cable back into my modem, then team will let me know that I am off-line. Usually comes back on within 5 to 10 minutes max but I can see how it gauges throughout the house. Thank you.

Greatest App and Service ever!!

I recently had an issue with an electrical problem in my home and Ting saved the day. After going to bed for a quick nap I got a call from Ting to alert me of arcing in my home. I was asleep and didn’t hear the call but I was able to see the text alert and email that was sent. I immediately called back and was alerted that there was arcing. After trouble shooting the issue with Natan, he scheduled an appointment for me to have the matter resolved and Ting covered the repair. The problem was with an outlet located in the wall behind my headboard in my bedroom. My head was literally a foot from the outlet that was arcing! I believe that not only did Natan and Ting save my home but my life as well. Had I not had the service that day could have been disastrous for me and my family. I’m very grateful, Thank you Ting

Very disappointed

Immediately after receiving my unit, it would not stay connected to my Wi-Fi modem. I would unplug it and plug it back in and reset my modem. I contacted my ISP and was told this was not an issue on my ISP part. TingSensor on my cell phone which is an Apple iOS keeps losing contact with the device. I don’t believe it’s an app issue. I reached out for technical support for Ting and have yet to get a resolution. It’s been over two weeks. I got my unit through state farm. I contacted them and they tried contacting Ting and could not get any technical advice or support for me as State Farm’s customer. I do not recommend this unit at all and the customer service is terrible.

Ting Review

We have now had our State Farm provided Ting remotely monitoring our Lake House electric system for about one month.
It reports on the frequent power outages and faultlessly restarts.
It also reports low temperature issues which helps protect our property. (We are planning to relocate our Ting to an interior wall to avoid unnecessary low temperature alerts.)
We wish that our detached garage electrical system could also be monitored but since it’s electrical panel is separate from our house panel we would have to heat the garage in order to meet Ting’s 42° minimum.
We are considering a Ting for our City house.

Love Ting! Saved me tens of thousands of dollars!!

I recently signed up through State Farm to use this weird ting electric tracker.. at first I was like this is cool I guess left it in and never thought about it again! Until one morning I woke up to a completely flooded house!
But guess what what got me up and straight down to the basement to find the flood? Ting did, because I received a notification that the thing turned off. I was like that’s odd maybe an outlet flipped the breaker since I had power upstairs! Because I never get this notification.

NOPE!
Ting helped me find the flood hours before I would have normally! Like HOURS! Which saved me THOUSANDS of dollars in damages!
Such a great and simple app, and a must have device!

Weird use case I know.. but this just actually happened a month ago! I for sure think it did something that even the developers never figured it would! 😅

Really like this product.

Within a few days of installing Ting it was showing voltage fluctuations from 98 volts to 138 volts and the swings occurred randomly during the day and night. Ting recommended contacting the electric service provider ONCOR and within 24 hours they responded by cutting off the underground power line and installing a temporary line.

The voltage fluctuations ceased. Within a few days Oncor put in a new power line - in a conduit this time - and the voltage has been solid and stable ever since. I feel a lot better not dealing with an “active ground fault” issue coming into the house.

Interesting Product

The Ting device and app are a compelling product but I’m not seeing a huge value. It provides the capability to notify me of a power issues, except it never actually notifies me. I usual notice a problem because the Ting device is blinking yellow. Then I look at TingSensor and it indicates there’s a problem. There is no other notification despite having notifications and SMS alerts enabled. Once I notice the alert, there isn’t any detail as to what the issue could be. And, so far, for no apparent reason the Ting device comes back online without any information as to why it was offline. I can only say it wasn’t because of a power outage.

Awesome app, device and service!

I was first made aware of this device and service through a promotion through State Farm Insurance Co. I signed up and my device arrived about 2 days later. Setup was a breeze and straightforward. I am now able to see the quality of electricity in my home as well as specific events that could get triggered due to specific incidents. It gives me a piece of mind knowing that my house is being monitored for possible electrical problems and/or electrical fires. It takes about 7 days for the device to “learn” about your homes environment and after that it is able to accurately predict and notify you of issues or potential issues. I highly recommend this device and service!

A great idea that needs refinement

After a lot of research I installed a Ting device. Reading a bit more of the instructions I found that I may need another device as I have two panels from my meter. It was a bit of a conversation adding up to six emails to determine that I did need a second. The suggested app improvements follows: 1. A contact form that can take photos and is relayed directly to an engineer will save loads of time. 2. The information displayed is very sparse and doesn’t include the second device if you have one. It would be nice to see the results of data collected to see how it is watching your house. 3. A Form when you sign up that will determine if you need more than one device so that you get everything at once rather than go through an email chain to resolve, will save time. Otherwise a great idea that can save lives.

Excellent device.

I’m impressed with the Ting. It meets some definite needs, not only electrical safety / hazard risks but also power quality, which is my main concern at present . It reconnects quickly and reliably after an outage. Alerts and notifications are succinct but informative. My only complaint is that it does not display today’s voltage data except right at the moment— you have to wait until tomorrow to see today’s data as “history”. So when my heat pump fails, as it has been, I can’t establish whether there’s been a voltage fluctuation in the several minutes preceding the failure, until tomorrow. (If there’s been a significant spike or dip, Ting does send me a notification. But for lesser deviations, I need to wait.) Of course, this is still way better than no voltage monitoring at all.

Not so good

Had a electrical surge that almost caused a fire. Had to call an electrician out on an emergency. Ting stated the entire time that everything was just fine even though the house almost burned down. The electrician said we were extremely lucky it didn’t happen at night when we were asleep. Ting has no record whatsoever of anything being wrong. So I have pretty much no faith in Ting. Ironically my electrician knows all about Ting and said Ting lures people into thinking everything is fine so they aren’t vigilant and end up in serious trouble. Ting always says everything is fine unless the electric goes out completely. It will not warn you if you have a serious electric problem. It only tells you when you electric is out. Which is kind of stupid because even I can see my electric is out.

My fire hazard notification

I received a notification from Ting indicating a fire hazard at my residence. We had no idea what the issue was and kind of blew it off as a false alarm. We were the contacted by a representative from ting named Nick. Nick requested us notify our electricity provider to pull our service and inspect it. We had our provider come to our residence and the technician on seen was also sceptical about the notification having no knowledge of the Ting service. When the technician pulled the service he found burnt wiring going into our residence. He was shocked. Thing then had us contact a local electrician who responded and replace our service going into our house. Ting paid for the labor. I had no idea Ting provided the service they do. I’m back to having a safe house. Thank you

Very pleased

I bought a house and through my homeowner’s insurance I signed up for Ting. Thought this would be perfect to have. I got it for free.

A few weeks ago we had some strong storms and my lights flickered. Thought nothing of it bc it was a storm. Next day I was alerted through my Ting app, email and text about a fire hazard. I also had a few voicemails from them. I immediately called and the rep I worked with was Emily. Super awesome service. She monitored my homes electrical system. We did a walk through over the phone and tried to figure out the issue I had over a week or so. Turns out the power company from the transformer to my home electrical line was thin and when we have storms and Texas heat it would cause low voltage and arcing. I called the power company’s to have them to come check the lines. Sure enough 16 other residents on that transformer was also dealing with the same issue. They replace the lines and fixed the other issue to the meter box. Ting still monitored the house 24-72 house before clearing it from a fire hazard! They kept me informed everyday how things were going. This device is definitely worth it if I had to buy it. I 100% recommend it. Has many features and they also help to pay for issues that could cause a fire hazard.

This gives me peace of mind.

I’m glad we have Ting

I’m glad we have Ting. Why? Because we’ve had numerous grid utility brownouts, and numerous power surges. It appears that power surges were responsible for trashing our pair of solar inverters. I had to buy a larger capacity solar inverter, manual transfer switch, fusible disconnect switch, a pair of lightning/surge protectors, and all of the necessary associated materials at a cost of about $9000. It’s a good thing I was able to do all of the labor myself, otherwise the cost would have been much more. Although I already have 2 other whole house surge protectors downstream from the solar inverters, and the 2 above mentioned lightning/suge protectors upstream of the inverters where the power comes onto the property, I am also considering a much heavier duty EMP lightning and surge protector to be placed upstream of the whole grid utility power system. I am taking all of these precautions because of the information that Ting has provided that make me aware of what is going on with the poor grid utility power. I will also be contacting the grid utility about these issues. Thanks to Ting.

A Proactive Stance

We have experienced both electrical safety and power quality issues in past years. A small fire once occurred inside a generator related box inside our garage that was apparently caused by a loose wire to nut connection. While a plastic burning odor was present, we were unable to determine its source. Based on a wide range of underlying problems that Ting can detect (as described in many informative detailed reviews) we enjoy the peace of mind that Ting provides. This was offered to us by our homeowners insurance company, and we are pleased to learn that insurance companies are pivoting to a more proactive stance. Perhaps we shall someday see the same for plumbing with whole-house zwave water shutoff valve apps that can monitor, detect and send alerts about leaks, abnormally high water pressure, and more.

Great Customer service & peace of mind

I’ve had my Ting sensor for about 2 years now. On a normal day, no biggie, cool I can see my voltage and see the historical graph which helps see when the AC is running. Great peace of mind.

Fast forward to the last 2 weeks. We had a severe weather event and a tree fell taking out the transformer and ripped everything off the pole. 2 days of no power and finally power back. At first, all seemed okay, until I started checking the Ting app.

We had major voltage fluctuations on the ting app daily reports. Definitely NOT the norm. A couple days later the Ting fire safety team identified a hazard on the utility side and contacted me directly, with instructions on what was at fault. After several attempts at contacting the utility company they finally sent someone out and replaced the line running to my house.

Had Ting not been in place, it would have taken a much worse event to identify the fault. The utility seemed very skeptical that a power monitoring device identified a fault which took several attempts to rectify.
