Honestly...

To be completely honest, I love these games.
I’ve always loved Text RPGs and the “choose your actions” aspect they bring.
Choice of Games LLC has always been a pretty good creator of these types of games as well...
The only issue I have, (and I completely and utterly feel I speak for everyone when I say this), is the fact that they honestly think that they can sell these games for the price that they do.
It’s probably a big shocker to them, but none of the games that are made are nowhere near worth, or even written well enough to be worth $5 a pop, or even $2 a pop for some of the ones I’ve found.
They are Text RPGs.
I would completely understand if you had an option to “subscribe” for a few of MAYBE $10 (and that’s pushing it, I’d honestly say $5), and then the people who pay have access to the ENTIRE library of games/books that are made and written.
Then again, if it’s really necessary to sell each game individually, then $1 a pop is exactly what ANY Text RPG is actually worth. MAYBE $2, but that’s at the very most, if it’s a really good one.
I promise you, change your prices accordingly and you will see a spike in your sales unmatched by any sales spike you’ve ever experienced.

Sincerely,
A concerned and loyal fan that wants to help and continue to play and see these Text RPGs FULLY THROUGH unhindered by a RIDICULOUS fee of $2.99 to $4.99 whenever I pass the first 5 chapters in a game/book.🤔👎🏽😞😑

Great app, but ads feel redundant

I love this game, and I understand the ads bring in needed revenue, but since the last time I played, there seem to be more ads than before. This is because, when I finish a chapter of a story, there is a 2 hour timer to play more. I close the story and wait, and when I come back, I have to play an ad to open the story again. Then, once the story is open, I have to watch ANOTHER ad to open the next chapter. Two in a row feels redundant. If they were just when I opened the story or between chapters I’d understand, although having them when I open a story is annoying if I accidentally click out of a story and have to watch an ad to go back into it. Lastly, one of the ads that played was horrible and disturbing, depicting a cartoon woman cornered in an alleyway and the legs of the man cornering her as he dropped his pants. It then showed the woman pregnant. It’s clear that was one of those cheap games that uses shock value to peddle their puzzle game and doesn’t actually have that content in it (I looked at the reviews for THAT app) but I wish y’all could perhaps screen the kind of ads you show, or perhaps report one, as there was no way to do that.

Some small gripes

As of now, I’d much prefer having the individual apps themselves. While having just one app sounds like a fantastic idea, I can’t really be bothered to switch. I’ve amassed a library of 15-20 of these games, and I genuinely can’t be bothered to find each one and click restore purchases through its (frankly) clunky interface. Additionally I’m a little irked by the ads, I get that as a company you guys have to make money, but after buying so many stories I’d expect to at least not have to look at the ads on ChoiceofGames ’s main interface. Within the stories themselves is understandable to a reasonable degree if they were free, but after paying for a multitude of stories I’d expect not to still have to be shown ads.

Excellent, with one suggestion

I have been a huge Choice of Games fan for years now - since the only place to find them was their website and they only had a handful of games available. They create excellent quality choose-your-own-adventure style games, and I highly recommend trying them out. Extremely pleased to have all the games in one app, as it will make following what’s new a lot easier. Also, unlike others who have written reviews, I didn’t have trouble restoring purchases on ChoiceofGames . I’d already downloaded some of the apps, which allowed me to synch purchases over to this one without trouble. Or, if you have a CoG account (which I recommend for the sake of saving games for sequels), you can restore purchases that way without trouble, too.

I would like a way to sort the games in ChoiceofGames , though. Whether by what you’ve already bought or played or by genre, it would make things easier. The search function is helpful if you already know what you want, but otherwise it’s difficult to navigate ChoiceofGames outside of scrolling through the titles.

Great app but...

So, I’ve been really enjoying ChoiceofGames so much lately. The stories are awesome and well written but I have only one problem. The prices. In my opinion, not everyone has the funds to continuously pay to continue stories, why not present ads that we can watch in order to access more chapters. Having ads would help ChoiceofGames out a lot, and bring in more customers because people love free to play stuff. And also I think you guys should add the opinion to create your own story within ChoiceofGames . That would draw in a lot of customers because a lot of people would love to create their own interactive story. That’s how ChoiceofGames episode became so popular because they allow everyone to make stories with gives ChoiceofGames more content

Good app but suggestions

I love the variety of stories and that they have free trials. Always loved the books from this company so I am glad to play even more! However, I would like it if there was a save/load feature. I think that after you play through a story once normally, you should unlock a save/load feature to save and load the game at any point. It is annoying to have to restart the whole story every time I choose the wrong thing when I am trying to get achievements. Or instead of a save/load feature, maybe I could choose to go back to the beginning of the chapter or the last chapter or something.

Also I wish we could leave/read reviews for individual books. I would like to tell the creator of Social Services of the Doomed that I wished we could have an option, when asked, to say that we like men & nonbinary people. (And women & nonbinary people obviously but that’s not my choice) Right now I would have to say I like only men, only nonbinary people, or any gender. So yeah, being able to review individual books within ChoiceofGames would be a good addition!

A fan

I’ve been a fan for, I wanna say, 2years? I love the books. Now, I’ll admit, I’m not a book reader, but I am a gamer. And I absolutely love these gamebooks. Let’s me get the reading in while still gaming. A lot of these books are hard to put down!! Especially the urban heist book Breach. I’ve played that like over 5times. Now, I will say, that I actively try to avoid the short word stories. Have to be 100k+ word count or none at that all for me to pay. Except for this one book.... Life of a Mobster! Great book, but man, it left me wanting more. Wanting more depth. More stories, more details. More action. Actual rise through the ranks. Please do another but way longer!!!

Superior Choose Your Own Adventure

Many years ago, I read quite a few Choose Your Own Adventure type books (printed). I have only read one Choice app/book so far, but I'm quite impressed with the quality of the writing and the better options & details they offer. It is definitely a step or three above the print books I read so long ago. Excellent job!

There is only one thing I found lacking with ChoiceofGames - the ability to retreat back from a choice/page. If you regret making a choice, there's no way to retreat, you have to start from the beginning & retrace your steps. If you could add this to ChoiceofGames , I'd appreciate it.

Excellent, Story-rich App!

I love the Choice of Games (and their other l publishing platform, Hosted Games). If you enjoy reading interactive stories, or enjoy video games that are more story rich, I think you'll enjoy these too.

The games can be hit or miss, and do make sure to skim over the reviews, but the good ones are really gold. I find them to be well worth their price, given the amount of work that goes into them. (You try writing a 500k word book, then come back and say $7 is overpriced! ;) )

For some reason, when I have choices in a story, even if I never play it again and get more options, I still feel a higher level of intimate connection to the MC and the other charters then a regular book. They can really pull me in.

Alright, I'll stop there, before I talk (write?) too long. Please, give one of these a try! Or go to their website and try the demo versions of some of the highest rated ones. Since Apple made them stop putting the games in ChoiceofGames Store and so we can't review them (yet), go to Google Play to find the true gems. I don't think you'll be disappointed. :)

AMAZING

ChoiceofGames is a wonderful idea. As a reader, it’s amazing to be able to interfere in what is going to happen in the story. I found ChoiceofGames through choice of cat. Personally, i loved it. I’ve recommended ChoiceofGames to tons of friends. After a long day, it’s fun to just cuddle up and read a story. But it’s not just ‘a’ story. it’s YOUR story. you can choose how you want it to turn out. thank you to the creators for making such a wonderful app that i can enjoy through all hours of the day. i enjoyed every bit of Choice Of Cat. Although it did leave an ache after it ended, it truly was worth it. It took me about 2 days to finish it. Thank you for making ChoiceofGames. I recommend it 10/10!!!!!!!

Good News For The Gays

Honestly, bless ChoiceofGames. It’s so great to have an inventory of all these types of games in one place. And perhaps you’re new to these kinds of apps, perhaps you’ve played similar games but not the ones featured in ChoiceofGames . Why should you bother with these? Although this kind of representation to matter to everybody, I have good news for my LGBT+ pals. Every story (that have a potential romance) gives you the opportunity to be gay or straight. Most let you choose to be bi. More than a handful let you choose to be asexual. Several let you choose to be aromantic. As for gender, many provide non-binary options, and let you type in your own pronouns. It’s really nice to have those kinds of options in a video game.

Genuine no-frills app for readers and gamers

ChoiceofGames is a library of many genres of interactive stories, each costing somewhere between $4-$10 for several hours of content. Once you buy them, they’re yours forever. You can try most of them for free (with very unobtrusive ads) to see if you like the author’s writing style. The replayability of some of these stories is incredible, with meaningful choices and intricately branching narratives. I’ve gotten enjoyment from playing them over and over literally dozens of times. If you like sci-fi, I highly recommend Choice of Robots. ChoiceofGames has a dark mode, achievements, accessibility options, and doesn’t try to hook you with memberships or gimmicks. Just great stories.

Love the One App

So, I have played a good bit of Choice and Hosted (their other brand) games. I actually don’t mind the one app because I prefer a centralized location to access all the games I had. I play a lot of RPGs on the console, and I read in my spare time so I love the combination when I need something casual and in between. Plus, many of them are not as kiddie as similar games in ChoiceofGames store. There is also a nice mix of genres.

You can preview the game before you buy, and if you are signed up for their mailing list or notifications, you learn when new ones drop. New stories are usually discounted for a week or so. There are also a few free stories mixed in there.

I enjoy, through their combined brands, many of the series. I replay a good bit of the stories. There are other on my list to eventually. I have just been wary of a few. Off the top of my head, (some of these might be the Hosted Choices app as well); I like Way Haven Chronicles, Choices of a Mobster, Samurai of Hyuga Series, Hero Rises Series, Blood Money, Versus Series, Tin Star, Choice of Rebel, etc. I recommend the overall app to people who like to read or enjoy RPGs.

The best app on my entire phone

Honestly these games are 100% my favorite ways to pass the time. My favorites include Heroes of Myth, Créme de la Créme, and Tally Ho. However, none of these games shine so bright as the Werewolves of Haven series. I’ve played the first game over and over again, always discovering new possibilities, and in the few days it’s been out, I’ve played the second at least 4 or 5 times. Honestly the worst part about them is having to wait for the next installment. Jeffrey Dean has really outdone himself in writing these. The story is heartfelt, realistic (besides the werewolves of course), and honestly makes me feel like I’m living in this insane world of werewolves vs humans and the struggle for survival. I would HIGHLY recommend these games to anyone. I will say, while Heroes of Myth is a not too distant second, the Werewolves of Haven is honestly a true gem.

Endless Replayability

This is the definitive modern choose your own adventure text game experience, with many different stories to choose from and a quality roleplaying game system at their core.

From exploring the world from the point of view of a house cat to conquering Alaska with a robot army to sailing the Caribbean at the head of your own pirate armada to quietly living as a polyamorous witch in a small town, the stories are as varied and diverse as the gameplay that drives them, with wildly inventive and occasionally challenging skill sets and a consistently interesting cast of characters in each one.

ChoiceofGames has a huge catalogue of stories and each entry has been a pleasure to read. I’ve been reading them for years and years now, and they never get old. They’re moderately priced and provide a lot of bang for your buck, with branching storylines that are fun to explore over time. I cannot recommend it enough.

Excellent!

I play a lot of visual novels, so I was intrigued by the idea of a virtual choose your own adventure novel. So far I’ve really loved ChoiceofGames! The stories are fun, the writing tends to be very good, your choices matter, and every book so far has had lots of playback value. Having them all in the one app is very convenient.

ChoiceofGames itself has run smoothly and I haven’t had any real problems with it. My only nitpick would be that it would be a little more convenient to have the library of books I’ve been reading up front instead of the explore page.

The prices are good for the amount of content you get and the three chapter trials let you test the water to see if the book style works for you before you pay. Choice of Games specializes in fantasy and what I call historically inspired fiction. If you like quirky content or are looking for that historical vibe and aesthetic but without all the homophobia, you’re likely to love their catalog.

Fun time consumer and interesting

I’ve only been reading some of the free stories recently, and some free chapters of paid stories, and theyre mostly very fun and interesting. I can tell why the free stories are free, theyre very short, which makes me very sad cause the end of the book always hurts most, cause its the end of a fun story. I very desperately want to read the paid stories because I have a feeling they’ll last a lot longer and be much more fun to read, but I can’t pay for them till a lot later. Maybe we can watch 5 ads each to read one chapter of a paid story maybe? I’ll watch up to 20 at once for a whole story, honestly I’ll watch even more probably, just to read more stories. I’m sure it’d be a good source of money…right? I’m sure some people already pay for the books, but many people don’t, and never will, so at least a couple ads may help out with some money right?

So much fun.

I’ve had a few short brushes with interactive fiction that I thoroughly enjoyed, but ChoiceofGames has enabled a full-blown habit. Something about interactive novels is so addicting— maybe because they’re like video games and books all in one?
ChoiceofGames itself is easy to use, though buyers beware: many of the stories you might find appealing cost money. There are numerous free games (the advertisements aren’t obnoxious like on other apps, either) but even the in-app purchases don’t cost more than $6.99 from what I’ve seen (think of how much a regular book from Barnes & Noble costs compared to that!). It’s especially worth it seeing as it works even with no connection; it’s really great on long road trips, I’ve found. I haven’t encountered glitches yet.
Ultimate guilt-free entertainment— reading makes you smarter, doesn’t it? If you’re curious, try it! It’s a lot more entertaining and worthwhile than the many time-waster game apps, and you’ll be better off for it.

Asteroid run!

Not sure if this is where we review individual games, but I can’t find anywhere else. We can give it a 1-10 in ChoiceofGames but no written review.

This game was wonderful! I usually find CoG to be too stat focused for my liking but the checks were easy enough that I didn’t have to worry about them much and could focus on the story. The power plays with the different factions in deep space were complex and challenging and it didn’t feel like the game was pushing me towards a “good” choice over a “bad” one. I also liked the couple of twists with some of our crew later on. I romanced Eira and [spoilers] was incredibly pleasantly surprised to find she’s demiromantic, which is something I’ve never seen before!

My only suggestions for improvement would be a bit longer of an epilogue, as the ending felt a bit abrupt, and that a lot of the dialogue scenes were abbreviated instead of letting us read the actual exchanges (which I don’t really blame the author for as I’ve seen this in a number of CoG to the point where I think it’s part of their rules for publishing). Anyway I loved this! Well done!

Works Great!

While I’ll miss having the individual apps visible on my app screen, I understand the circumstances and think this is a good alternative. The menus are informative and the games all work as intended as far as I can tell. I was able to download all of my old games without much trouble. However, I would love to know if, when I look at a game I haven’t purchased/have no intention to play and it says “Game now downloaded for offline use” if that takes up more storage space on my phone? If so then I would appreciate the option to delete the downloaded game from my phone as it would just take up space.
