🏷️ About: OpenCare is the easiest way to track the hard things. It’s your personalized symptom tracker.
I really liked SymptomTrackerOpenCare at first—then I started using it more and digging around. SymptomTrackerOpenCare actually doesn’t work at all. For instance, if you record a symptom as “mild,” SymptomTrackerOpenCare stores it as “not felt.” This throws off everything.
The report that can be generated is actually just a list of your records—but because SymptomTrackerOpenCare doesn’t record them correctly, they’re wrong, making the report useless for tracking your symptoms (which is the whole point of SymptomTrackerOpenCare). SymptomTrackerOpenCare has great graphs, but they’re not included in the report. It’s literally just a list of your entries over a given time period.
Overall, this is a great idea for an app—it just doesn’t work. I’ve been asking support about the problems for a while now (almost two weeks). They say they’re aware SymptomTrackerOpenCare doesn’t work and that the problem has been fixed—but until there’s an update pushed out, SymptomTrackerOpenCare flat-out doesn’t work.
(The developers also apparently had people they were interviewing for jobs complete some of the reviews, which is REALLY unethical, even if they didn’t ask for positive reviews. If you’re interviewing for a job, you’re not going to insult the company).
The functionality of SymptomTrackerOpenCare is great with being able to monitor symptoms, notes, appointments over time. I like that there are specific questions following symptoms. The calendar lets you monitor/view symptoms over time and even export that timeline. It can be useful for users who don’t remember all their symptoms and also helps healthcare professionals with prognosis. My one complaint is that some functions don’t feel as intuitive to a user. For the appointments function, I think being able to set the appointment date and seeing it on the calendar could help monitor symptoms up until an appointment. Or some kind of integrated calendar (Google calendar or iCalendar) would be appreciated.
It could have been more user friendly. Options to record is limited. Instead of giving an option of caregiver and loved one it would have been better if there was an option to put a name. It’s confusing to save an upcoming appointments and set a reminder as well. For example: if I were to record an upcoming appointment for June 16, after adding the record it says recorded at June 16 instead of displaying the date that you used to record an appointment. More improvements is required to make it more
user friendly and effective app.
Revised review: Kyle contacted me and told me they were working through a bug that is causing this problem. I do hope they can fix it because if SymptomTrackerOpenCare is up and running and doing what it says it can do, it will be amazing. But for now BACK UP YOUR DATA if you are using it (though I haven’t seen a way to import it back in...
Changing my review from 1 star to 3.
If it gets fixed, it will be a solid 5!
From 5/3/21 (I think): I spent over an hour getting everything set up, subscribing, adding in all the symptoms for myself and my daughter, only to wake up this morning and have everything gone. If I have to enter everything from scratch every day, I’d rather just track it on paper. That would be easier. Why should I pay $6 a month to have to work so hard to track - and have no record of what you entered?
As a design student and a first time user, I like the concept and the purpose of SymptomTrackerOpenCare. SymptomTrackerOpenCare makes it easy to take care of your health and your loved ones (my favorite feature). Having a section for your loved one is thoughtful and beautiful. Some design and user interface elements could be improved and simplified. For example, in the timeline feature, I don’t think it is necessary to repeatedly mention “no records for this month...” under each month of no record when it is already said on top that I have “0 records in ___month”. I think some information like that doesn’t need repeating, keeping it concise and simple can make it more clear to the users. The calendar can also be more packed together or have it so only one month is visible on the screen and then you can swipe horizontally to the next month so not too much space is wasted and this will also require less scrolling. Nonetheless, overall SymptomTrackerOpenCare is clean with white background and visually interesting with pop of colors. I enjoyed the functionality of SymptomTrackerOpenCare . I love the purpose and how SymptomTrackerOpenCare can help you improve your lifestyle and look out for your loved ones as well.
Nice app! Timeline feature works well with the calendar, but a little too much scrolling to access past dates. Maybe use a Google Calendar approach so we can more quickly access dates — and being able to visualize specific tasks and symptoms in each day without having to click individually would be nice. I also think we should be able to book appointments in future dates (currently cannot record notes past current day).
SymptomTrackerOpenCare is a great concept and has very useful tools to help a family keep track of caregiver and loved one to track symptoms and for self care. The timeline is a great feature, I would like an option to see both the caregiver and loved one timelines on the same calendar as well as separately for tracking efficiency. I would also like an option to input the dose/time of day that medications are taken. Finally, I like the “severity” option for symptoms but don’t feel “good” makes sense in context, “mild” would be more appropriate.
I think open care is a wonderful grab at addressing Public Health needs, which are so critical to improve the full health spectrum of individuals wether it be physical or mental. I really enjoy the interface however I’m not so sure if it’s intuitive enough as I was left to explore SymptomTrackerOpenCare myself with no guidance and kept running into what felt like enpty journal entries. If that is the intention I think this application would be best utilized for those with chronic illness or disability. Also the caregiver versus loved one confused me. Am I supposed to be filling this out or my care provider?
There was a small problem with the scroll options in Frequency > Medications where the options would disappear if I scrolled too fast, and the dialogue box would not disappear when pressing Submit.
I enjoyed how SymptomTrackerOpenCare gives you simple options and guides you through the details, thereby not straining my cognitive load. The export PDF feature is very nice and will be helpful to taking information to the doctor’s office. I have only had the application for a day so I cannot comment on the notification feature, but overall it was a good experience!
I really liked SymptomTrackerOpenCare , easy to navigate and not cluttered at all. I feel integrations if app with calendars would be looked at. Also, while I was signing up, after the free trial, it lead me to the payments page. I didn’t realise the skip button, top-right until much later. That can be looked at. I like how the product creators have given importance to all aspects of health. Also, if there could be an option for recurring appointments, it’ll be great.
I just got SymptomTrackerOpenCare today and after examining the different capabilities, I’m really impressed. The interface is clean and intuitive, simple to use and allows for logging in great detail. Takes a lot of the burden ofd patients’ shoulders (especially those with memory difficulties) and lets them easily record symptoms as they occur, and the logging of dosage information and reminders is so great for this too. Few small things UX wise that could be improved is the “dismiss” button—this makes sense but “close” is more industry standard. Accessibility wise, adding a visual confirmation in addition to the physical pulse upon logging an entry may be a good idea.
I find that once I log a lot of symptoms, the Timeline view gets quite difficult to navigate, as they all stack below the monthly calendar and make it hard to jump to previous months without lots of scrolling. Implementing an option where all the symptoms begin collapsed with maybe just a preview or summary and then expanding when tapped is a good idea, similar to how other calendar apps like Moleskine implement expanding info.
I really like the idea and there is need for this application. Health caregivers and relatives of patients benefit tremendously from this application.
My recommendations:
1) As soon as I log in, I am asked to try free trial and then start paying. I can skip this by clicking in the upper right corner, but it doesn’t feel right. It would be better if the option to start the trial is shown to the user after 3 days as it doesn’t seem right to ask them to start paying for something in the future without trying it.
2) The appointment section should have the option to add them to different kinds of calendars like Google or iCal.
3) The timeline feature should have the ability to scroll from from left to right to access previous months and include a parameter to choose months instead of scrolling downwards.
4) The name of the application is the same as another product focused on booking appointments with dentists. It would be better if another name is selected.

Nikhil
Upon first interaction with SymptomTrackerOpenCare , it seems quite straightforward. I’m sure with further usage it will become even more apparent the value of tracking symptoms and uncovering health patterns. By tracking any symptoms each day, SymptomTrackerOpenCare would be incredibly useful for uncovering any unknown health issues that are consistently occurring or any deviations from normal. I would have to use it consistently in order to provide a true rating, but upon first impression, I would say this is a quality app that could potentially be a lifesaver for those who don’t regularly see/have access to health care providers, as well as an incredibly useful tool for anyone who is interested in tracking their health.
SymptomTrackerOpenCare offers great features in regards to documenting and tracking symptoms. The option for caregiver and loved one inputs allows for a dynamic and personal experience that still upholds the goals of SymptomTrackerOpenCare : care management. Options for symptom documentation allows for a thoroughness through the options of adding symptoms, medications, notes, and appointments. There is flexibility when adding a symptom, through free response answers or structured multiple choice responses. There could be some minor updates, like making the text “dark mode” friendly, finding a way to differentiate the Reports and Timeline tab, and potentially creating a profile page. Overall an easy to use and clean app!
It was easy to navigate through SymptomTrackerOpenCare , however there were some usability issues I noticed
- When typing in the Note function, the text typed appears in black. Against a dark gray/black screen, the note is illegible. Changing the text color to white or light gray would be best.
- When reviewing the records for a certain month, all the records were compiled underneath the calendar in huge blocks that takes a long time to scroll through just to get to the previous months at the bottom. I suggest including a button that allows the user to view all the records in the chosen month.
- The information blocks are also separated when compiled underneath the calendar, which I thought was slightly inefficient. I think that once the user records all the information they would like to input for that date, the information should compile into one single record.
- Although SymptomTrackerOpenCare was generally easy to navigate, without onboarding I think it would be difficult for users who are less familiar with tech or the Apple UI to use. Onboarding will definitely be able to help the user in the long term, by helping them familiarize SymptomTrackerOpenCare and letting them know about other features that they might not know about.
I think that SymptomTrackerOpenCare is really useful, especially if I’m someone that has to keep track of my condition and has a lot of medication to take. Would recommend to my relatives and friends!
SymptomTrackerOpenCare has a clean and simple interface to track symptoms, record medications, and add notes from doctors. The timeline feature can be especially useful to see symptoms in a calendar view. Some suggestions to improve the interface include:
Adding a personalized touch in the UI/UX wording for the caregiver. Apps like Flo do this well by the use of a virtual assistant, who gives insights on the symptoms and menstrual cycles of women.
In the Timeline view, each symptom of the day is laid out in stack view. While this gives plenty of space to each symptom, is there a way that information can be synthesized and shown in a better way? Perhaps the use of a grid view, with each symptom in a smaller unit, which would show an overall big picture overview.
Pre-filled suggestions shown for symptoms and medications can reduce the time taken for users to enter details.
The use of rating scales with icons can be useful in measuring symptom severity, to reduce text on the screen.
SymptomTrackerOpenCare is allowing me to track my health concerns and target the areas where i may be struggling. I applaud the creators because they identified that health is not only physical but it is also mental and behavior. This provides accountability for the users to manage their symptoms after seeing the doctor. It can be used as a tool to review by our doctors to see how we are doing up until our next visit. If we have apps that track our calories and exercise then this is an app that can track our overall welbeing.
First of all, I want to say that this sort of app is what I’ve been looking for for a very long time. It is highly personalized to my specific conditions and symptoms and it is easy to navigate. Better yet, the developer is highly receptive to suggestions and personable with what seems a genuine interest in making SymptomTrackerOpenCare the optimal tool for people with chronic conditions to manage their health. I would recommend SymptomTrackerOpenCare to anyone with a chronic illness or anyone simply interested in more proactively managing their health.
SymptomTrackerOpenCare helps keep track of problems as well as issues that the user is feeling along with the location on the body. Tiny details can be missed when we talk to our doctors and SymptomTrackerOpenCare basically acts like a diary of our body and helps the doctors effectively treat us. There’s also the timeline feature which would be helpful in remembering progression of issues which could be vital in diagnosing issues we might be facing. Overall, SymptomTrackerOpenCare is pretty impressive and uses technology to help aid our wellbeing.
As a nursing student I do the like the idea of being able to record down my symptoms and keeping everything logged down throughout the day, being able to take side notes and add on future appointments time with reminders.
It's definitely easy to see if I have any lining up symptoms that often occurred and etc.
Even though the application is clean and easy to use I feel like an older generations would have a harder time using to to navigate because they're not exactly sure on how to grasp the concept of technology.
